Indesign crashes when clicking on print options

indesign cs6 crashes when clicking on printer or page setup within the print options. OS 10.7.4

Peter,
Yes, I can bring up the Paragraph Styles and the Character palettes with no document open, edit the [Basic Paragraph] style to change the font family, then open a blank document, and new text boxes will use that font.
I'm on a bit of a deadline right now, so I ended up uninstalling ID CS5 and reinstalling it.  I can now successfully bring up the Edit menu and the right-click context menu both in a blank document and in the document I was working on before.  I'm sure the problem will reappear again at some random point in the future, so I am still looking for fixes that don't involve reinstalling the app.
BTW, I have tried exporting my work document to IDML and re-importing it, but to no avail.  I've also tried toggling Dynamic Spelling (past threads have suggested this as a possible fix), but also to no avail.
It would be really nice if Adobe products produced some sort of crash dump or bug report when this sort of thing happens...

  • Adobe InDesign crashes when trying to print

I use Adobe CS4 regularly.  I could print fine from all apps in CS4 until yesterday when I tried to print from InDesign CS4 and the app crashed.  All other apps in CS4 print fine, as do all other apps.  I've attempted to create a new print preset and also tried to edit the printer default, but InDesign crashes every time.  Has this happened to anyone else?
The only things I've done differently (or new) was to test a new antivirus app (Anti-Virus Software for Mac Protection | Kaspersky Lab United States) and also to download and try out the new Firefox 11.  I also created a couple of pdf files in InDesign (as I've done dozens of times with no problems).
The printer is an Epson all-in-one WorkForce 630, and I have confirmed that I'm using the latest drivers.  I've done restarts and shutdowns.  Nothing seems to help, and only InDesign CS4 seems to be affected.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated...and thanks in advance for your input.

Forgot to mention that I can still create pdf files using the CS4 presets, and can also continue to work on files and save them but the only way to print is by creating a pdf file and printing that.

  • CS4 Indesign crashes when sending to print on Mavericks OS 10.9.1?

Does anyone know of a fix for this?
    Thanks,
    EH

    Thanks for your response everyone.
First: My installation was a full install on a new Mac Book pro on OS 10,9.1.
(The installation was from an upgrade, but as a full version).
—I had updated to Java  1.6.0_65
—And had updated to the latest version of Adobe Drive.
—And had run all of the Adobe CS4 updates after installation.
i verified through my HP desktop printer vendor that there wasn't a problem with the printer connection or printer.
Then I worked with an Apple tech to troubleshoot this problem approaching it as a problem with the operating system. It proved not to be the Mavericks operating system but an Adobe software update problem.
I was also at the same time having a problem with Acrobat requesting entry of the Admin password each time before it would open.
I noticed that Acrobat had not updaed to the latest version of 9.5.5 in the install.
I mentioned this to the Apple tech and he researched Adobe's site to locate the sequential updates for Acrobat 9.0 to 9.5.5.
This problem ceased oddly enough when I corrected this problem with Adobe Acrobat requiring a password each time to open.
In order to stop Acrobat from requesting the Admin password, I manually downloaded and  installed from Adobe's site every Acrobat update in order from 9.0 to 9.5.5.
The problem with Acrobat stopped early on in the updates, but returned again in one of the later updates. It disappeared altogether after continuing with the sequential updates to 9.5.5 and Acrobat 9.5.5 is functioning beautifully. Also the automatic software update in Acrobat was not functioning in 9.0 from inside of Acrobat. But after doing all of the updates that feature is available. However 9.5.5 is the last update for Acrobat 9.
I then was able to run an update for InDesign CS4 from the InDesign automatic software update feature and now InDesign is printing without crashing.
I also with disk utility verified and repaired disk permissions after all of the updates were completed.
here's the link for the Acrobat updates
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Macintosh
It worked for  my situation and I  hope this helps others with a similar problem.
You might make sure that there aren't any issues with printing from your desktop printer vendor and the Apple operating side first.

  • InDesign Crash when attempting to Print

I have recently purchased an iMac running System 10.9.4. Installed InDesign, PhotoShop and Illustrator CS3. PhotoShop and Illustrator are running without problem. InDesign runs fine until I hit the "Print" button at which time the App crashes and the Problem Report appears. Report indicates that the crashed thread is com.apple.main-thread. Likewise, if attempt to run the Adobe Updater, it crashes and similar Problem Report appears. I did a clean uninstall of InDesign using MacKeeper, then reinstalled InDesign. Results were the same. What is my next step in tryiig to solve the problem?

CS3 was never designed to run on 10.9 and has never been officially tested or supported on that OS. You may never get it to print. Export to PDF instead and print from Acrobat or Reader.

  • Indesign crashes when Exporting a Print PDF

Has anyone had problems with Exporting Print PDF from Indesign CC?
I can do an interactive one, but not print.
No. It is not the file I am trying to print. I have tried a brand new one with nothing in it as well.

I believe "PrintFusion45" recommends you to use lower resolution (resized) copies of your original TIFFs in your Indesign document.
You can have a look at the "effective ppi" in the "link info" window for a selected image, and compare it with the intended print resolution (in your case perhaps the image downsampling setting in the pdf export).
If you intend to create a pdf using 300 ppi downsampling for the images, and the effective ppi of an image in the document is 1000 ppi (which could be the result if you rezise a large image to a small area in InDesign), then InDesign will have much more data to process, than using an image that already has the same ppi as the intended output.
There is of course the downside of keeping more than one original image, just to get the InDesign documents "lighter" and faster to print.
I hope this makes things a bit clearer.

  • Programs Illustrator CS3 and InDesign crash when trying to print documents.

I am unable to print any documents created in either program on my HP printer.  I've reinstalled the Creative Suite 3 as well as the HP printer.  I have tried to update adobe but it says I'm not connected to the internet and I am.  I upgraded to system 10.9.4 a while ago.  Anyone know what I can do to resolve this.
    Thanks Julie53

  • InDesign crashes when printing

    Using InDesignCS2 4.0 on a MacBookPro OS 10.6.8.
InDesign crashes when I hit "print" on all documents, so it looks like it's not corrupt data in the document. As a workaround, I can export to a pdf and print, but now need to add printer's marks, which can only be done through "print."
I've re-installed the program from the original disk.
    Thoughts?
    -- Jerry Monaghan

Is this an installation on a computer you've just acquired? Or did it work before on this particular computer?
There is a mismatch between your InDesign version which came out in May 2005, and Mac OS X 10.6, which came out in 2009. InDesign CS2 was designed for a much earlier version of Mac OS X 10.2.8 to 10.3.8. Apple often makes OS changes which makes features in much earlier software versions not work.
You're lucky to have a workaround to be able to print via PDF files.

  • Indesign crashes when printing osx 10.8

Adobe Indesign crahes when you hit PRINT, reading on the internet, discussions say show hidden files, go to Libriary, Printer and remove certain PPDs, but when I look in Libriary/Printer all that is in there is my Epson printer, any suggestions please

The PPDs are associated with the printer. I guessing what you read is saying the print drivers are supposedly corrupt somehow. Doesn't make much sense to me if all other applications print okay.
Do you have a PPD plugin that is Adobe?

  • InDesign crashes when scrolling/editing a corrupted page with a broken link.

Just sharing a problem I had and how I solved it (with help from adobe tech support-thanks!).
Indesign CC running on a Mac OSX 10.9.2
    PROBLEM:
InDesign crashed when ever I reached a certain page in a large document I was working on. On that page was a link to an illustrator file. Somehow this file must have been corrupted, but there was no chance to edit or delete this link/page as the program crashed instantly when ever I tried to manipulated that specific page.
    SOLUTION:
I opened a new, empty document; opened the broken file and moved all pages to the new document: LAYOUT/PAGES/MOVE PAGES; select Move Pages "ALL"; Move to: "Select the new document"; click OK. I went back to the new file with the moved pages saved it and deleted the corrupted link on that page which I could now edit again. Problem solved!
Hope this is helpful for anyone who experience the same problem.

  • Photoshop CS6 Crashes when trying to print (Windows 8)

Everytime I try to print from Photoshop CS6 using Windows 8 Photoshop crashes. I click the print option from the File Menu and bam it crashes and shutsdown. No error message no nothing. Any ideas? I have installed the latest updates and still no go.
    Robert

It might be helpful if you'd go into your Windows Event Logs (specifically, the Application log) and look for the Error event indicating a Photoshop crash.  It may identify a module that will help narrow down the problem - though I suspect it will show a crash in the printer driver.  Copy the text and list it here.

  • Finder crashes when clicking on Applications folder

VERY weird. Beginning a few days ago the finder on my Mac Pro crashes whenever I clicked on the Applications folder. It makes no difference what finder view I am using (icons, columns, etc.). Even if I click on the alias to the Applications folder in the sidebar, the finder crashes. I cannot view the contents of that folder by any method. The only way I can get to an item contained therein is to search for it using Spotlight.
Thinking that maybe my startup disk was hosed somehow, I ran Disk Utility (repaired permissions and verified the disk) and ran all tests within TechTool Deluxe. Both said the disk and filesystem were fine.
I tried copying the entire folder to another disk, but the copy aborts after the first few items (stops with Adobe Photoshop; the next item alphabetically is Aperture). In case Aperture was somehow a problem, I removed it (searched using Spotlight and then dragged it to the trash). No change in behavior.
I used Carbon Copy Cloner to replicate the entire drive to another, newly reformatted drive and made that drive the startup disk. No change in behavior.
It sure seems that the issue has to do with some kind of file corruption (that CCC dutifully replicated) rather than a faulty drive, but I have no idea where to look next for a solution (other than reformatting and reinstalling over 100 applications from scratch; ugh).
Does anyone have any idea what may be going on here? Until I can fix this, the Mac Pro is pretty much useless (luckily, I also have a MacBook Pro).

Hi - I too am having this issue.
When I click on any of the items in my sidebar (i.e. -desktop, documents, applications, etc...) this causes the finder to crash and restart.
I have tried trashing the com.apple.finder.plist and running disk utility but to no avail.  I also found this other forum discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1336291?start=0&tstart=0) Where this was part of the post

Re: finder crashes when clicking desktop icon in sidebar - any help?
Feb 2, 2008 3:43 PM (in response to choegl)
choegl, that crash is the same place as andreas's but it got there in a different manor. In the manor I would expect it to. It is trying to retarget the window to your selection in the sidebar and setup List View according to the view options for that folder from that folder's .DS_Store. Its specifically trying to get the label for one of the columns in List View (i.e. Size or Name or Date Modified) but the value it gets from the .DS_Store is corrupt/bogus and causes the Finder to crash (specifically a component underneath the Finder call CoreFoundation via a call to CFStringGetLength). Here's how you solve your problem. In /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app type: +cd <path to problem folder>+
    +rm .DS_Store+
+killall Finder+ Pressing return after each line. You can get the path to the problem folder by drag/dropping the folder into the Terminal window. When the Finder comes back up, see if it still crashes when you click on that problem folder (i.e. your Desktop) in the sidebar. Repeat the steps above for any other folders that behave this way when you click on them in the sidebar. Hope that helps everyone...
btw, I wrote up a bug report on your behalf about this issue and sent it off to Apple (# 5721669)."
I tried this as well and nothing!
Anyone have any suggestions?  I'm at a loss and am hating this issue!  BTW, if I right click on any of the items in the sidebar, I can then click on open to get the folder to open.  HASSLE!  and if I forget (which is likely since I move too fast for my own good) then I crash the finder.  Also, this happens on all the users on my mac.
    Thanks!!!!

  • Pages '09 crashes when trying to print

    hello...please help me!
Have had iWork '09 for about four months now....and just yesterday it started to crash when i press print. it happens every time. it does not give me a crash log....just says this application has closed unexpectedly and that osx will not be affected..and give me the option to try again, reopen, or close. please help.... i need this program for school....aarrrrggggghhhhh!

and this is well understood....but it has worked flawlessly until now....but i had a deeper problem which i believe was the underlying cause. i could not repair my start-up disk, ran disk utility from boot up cd rom, encountered an error....and then my hard drive unmounted....and then it would not remount...and so my computer would not boot from drive, which was awesome, not really. so long story short, i had to format and reinstall os x and start from scratch.
but i do believe the memory requirements are for keynote...because i have ran numbers and pages infinite times with no problems.....i am even running multiple apps while doing so...which would also tax the memory...so i am not sure the memory is the issue...although logic would assume it is. but thanks for the response...i haven't tried the program after the re-install ( have yet to add my windows networked printer....so hopefully i will not need anymore advice.
but thank you for your reply
