In future, please put crash reports on Pastebin.com, and post a link here.
Can you export the PDF in tow parts (front half/back half)? If so, combine them in Acrobat Pro. If either half fails, divde that in half again, and so forth, until you isolate a page, or pages, that are causing the problem. It's very often an image, but it can be text as well, and you should be able to isolate the problem object by moving half the objects at a time to the pasteboard on a problem page and trying to export again, similar to the way you isolated the page.

Indesign Crashes when exporting PDF
Hi,
We are experiencing an issue when exporting an .indd file as .pdf. The process gets as far as a certain page (8 out of 13) and then crashes when reading a pdf image from that page. It does one of two things - it crashes or displays an 'out of memory' message. We had task manager running alongside the program to check memory usage and there are no major spikes during the export process (it doesn't even hit 80%)
- We can export every other page in the document except this one
- The export works without marks & bleeds enabled (not really sure of the terminology so I do apologise)
The document is going off to print so the pdf image has to be of high resolution. Does anyone have any ideas as to how we can get around this issue?
The INdesign package is CS4 (32bit) and the pc has 4GB of RAM
Any assistance would be much appreciatedFriends I'm reading all the posts, but I have the same problem. My Indesign crashes exporting a document of 60 pages into pdf.
Can anybody help me please? The next week I have to deliver the project. Thank you!

Indesign crashes when placing PDFs
All,
When placing PDFs in and Indesign file, it occasionally crashes. Usually when doing multiple pages, one at a time, some work and some crash.... although the ones that crash always crash and I cannot get them placed.
The goal is to put the PDFs in the file and add text and/or images over the PDF.
Solutions?
Power Book Pro OS 10.8.5
Indesign CS 6Eugene,
Produced with IText 2.0.2 (by Iowagie.com), PDF version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x)
However, some of the pages place just fine, and some crash every time. Suspect there's corruption on the crashing pages.
Is there a way I could save the file in a different format or program and open that into Indesign? -
Frequent Indesign Crashing, CS6 and Now CC, any help for a fault finding novice?
Good afternoon,
I have been experiencing a lot of crashes, firstly with CS3 on my old system, then with CS6, then I upgraded to a new PC and still had CS6 crashes and now i have CC and still having similar issues.
My system is Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit, with 8GB Ram.
The crashing can happen upon Indesign boot, even with a simple 3Mb file opening and can also occur randomly mid work.
Here is my error report if it will help.
http://pastebin.com/diEQwr0F
I have looked through the forum but am not certain if other faults i have come across are related to mine or not so If anyone can advise the best course of action it would be much appreciated. I am not the most technically minded when it comes to the running of the pc so any help would be great.
Best regards
DI hope you are running any of your InDesign versions at their most-recent patched version; not at their out-of-the-box versions. Click on Help > Update in InDesign in order to download and install the version patch.
Have you tried this? Opening the C:\Windows\Temp folder while no programs are running; selecting all the .tmp files and all the files beginning with a tilde (or really select all files and sub-folders within that folder) and delete them and then reboot your Windows machine and see if it feels better and runs InDesign more stably.
Another chicken-soup idea to investigate is to obtain a font utility software like FontDoctor. Run this investigative software on your installed fonts to see whether it finds a corrupt or partially corrupt font. Remove any such bad fonts. BTW, simply getting rid of old fonts is a good idea. Get rid of all your PostScript Type 1 fonts. Leave only OpenType fonts on your system.
Afterwards, maybe your system will crash less. -
Indesign crashes exporting to pdf after upgrading to windows 7
I recently upgraded to windows 7. Indesign cs4 worked fine...until i tried to export my 16-page document to a pdf. I got the message: Adobe Indesign CS4 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correclty. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. (And it hasn't notified me, ha ha ha...) I tried with a one page document, and it was able to export it. Then i tried six pages of the doc and it won't export. ANy help out there?
hi thanks peter spier
I did a system restore, but that didn't help.
I tried exporting the indesign file page by page, since it could do a single page. I discovered only page 5 was causing the problem.
I will recreate page 5 from scratch and see how that goes. Something could be corrupt on it, but it had not presented a problem when I was using Windows XP and had exported the exact same entire 16 page file befor upgrading to windows 7 last month.

InDesign crashes while exporting to PDF
I have one PDF that after placing in InDesign cannot be exported to PDF
InDesign crashes on Windows and Macintosh, versions from CS3 to CC
Any ideas what can be wrong with my PDF?I reckon you might find that you have font clashes as your PDF is being created. I had a similar issue a few weeks back where I had created a Brochure, sent it to the client, went through rounds of amends, and the final round of amends prior to print sign off was sent in a word document. When I opened the word doc, I copied and pasted the amends, all looked fine, so I created one last PDF... crash.
I ahve a suspicion that word auto-activated a font that didn't agree with fonts within the InDesign file. I deactivated many fonts, restarted my Mac and hey presto... sorted!
Now, the PDF that you imported into your InDesign file may well be the culprit activating a dodgy font, and this becomes a bit problematical. So, you could open it in Photoshop and save it as a high res image, or you could open it in Illustrator and hopefully all text has remained in place and will enable you to ouline fonts and save it as an illustrator file... BUT, you must advise and get your client to check the contents of the resultant file if you go down either of these routes. -
When I save a CS6 InDesign file as an .idml file InDesign crashes and sends a report to Adobe.
When I restart InDesign the .idml file is in the directory as well as a locked InDesign file.
I cannot open the .idml file, instead I get the message:
Cannot open "" file. Adobe InDesign maynot support the file format,
a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing,
or the file may be open in another location.
I can however open an InDesign .idml file that was saved from InDesign CC software.
InDesign CC software is also unable to open the .idml file that I created in CS6.It seems to be a corrupted IDML file. Does it happen with every file or only with that one.
What is the content of that file? Did you embed images or graphics or did you ink them? Size?
Maybe that this would help you: Re: InDesign 6 is crashing when attempting to open a particular document. All others are opening OK. -
Placed .png files in look blurry in InDesign CS6 & output PDF
I'm brand new to InDesign...just learned it yesterday. I'm using CS6. However, I think I'm following best practices as I've watched many instructional videos and have a folder of images I'm using in the document which I place in the document using "File" -> "Place." I've both put them into frames that already exist (and used "Object" -> "Fitting" and often "Fit frame proportionally" but also other commands) as well as without a frame where I drag a window the size I'd like the file to be after I've loaded up my cursor using "File" -> "Place."
I'm at a loss as my files are 72 DPI and 144 DPI (I'm on a Mac and have checked them out both in Photoshop and using "Tools" -> "Inspector" in Preview) and I have NO idea why they look so terrible in both InDesign and my output pdf! I'm attaching both the files I'm placing and screenshots of what they look like in the output .PDF.
Thanks SO MUCH for any help anyone can give me--I'm working on an urgent project and must figure this out! This info was quite helpful--thanks everyone!
First of all, I'm not entirely sure I chose the right tool for this job, and advice on this would be welcome. I wanted a document of portfolio pages formatted sort of like a book, so I thought it would be better to use InDesign rather than something like Photoshop or Illustrator (I've learned these tools in the last year but haven't really used them to create documents). My primary goal, however, was to present this information both from my computer and on my website, and a secondary goal was for it to be able to print nicely. So I thought InDesign was the right choice. (I read this article from 2010: Adobe Photoshop vs. Illustrator vs. Indesign | Dream Infinity Studios / Chris Takakura | Art Direction + Design to get some guidance...hopefully most of it is still relevant.) Because of that I wasn't sure whether to use "Intent" -> "Print" or "Intent" -> "Web", so I went with web with a 1024 x 768 page size, hoping that will look OK for desktop (not professional) printing. What do people do when they want something to function in both domains? Not sure if that could have affected anything about the way these images were placed...
In terms of finding a solution:
1. I was using High Quality Display--it was more an issue with my output document. (Though strangely sometimes when I toggle between high-quality & typical displays, sometimes things that looked good when I was working on them in high quality, after toggling to typical and back, look horrid.)
2. It seemed at first that it might be an issue of the way I placed the files, e.g. I was positioning my cursor OUTSIDE any sort of field and dragging a square to the size I wanted my image to be. I'm wondering if it somehow reduced the image size because if I create the square using the "Rectangle Frame Tool" it seemed to work much better. I've also tried just dropping the file without the frame tool and resizing it that way, but my images are actually VERY long & wide, so that's difficult. I was also wondering the "fitting" option I chose may have been affecting the display...I've been trying "Fitting" -> "Fit Content Proportionally" lately.
3. I created some .pdfs of some of the pings from Omnigraffle, and that seemed to help, but that actually makes them look worse because there are screenshots within the OmniGraffle mock-up files which are washed out and pixelated and the text that was added on top stands out too much (see attached screenshot...the one on top is a PDF and the header and footer looks funny and the bottom is a PNG where at least everything looks consistent).
So though some files look better now (especially, ironically enough, the 72 DPI screenshot of Use Cases!), I can't figure out what process I should follow to get consistently good results. Because a) the mockup files look good when I first paste them, and b) they are longer and wider than the content area I'm using and I'm shrinking them significantly, I cannot figure out why I can't keep that level of detail after they've been shrunk to fit. I keep wondering if I'm placing image properly, shrinking them properly, or those Fitting settings properly... -
I created a 24 page interactive form for an iPad in InDesign CS6 for a class project. I used the new buttons and forms feature. Whenever I try to export the form to an interactive pdf InDesign crashes and an unexpected error crash screen comes up. This is very frustrating because I need to export it to view the interactivity. PLEASE HELP ME!!
Can you export it in two halves? If not, does one half export, but the other crash?
Waht's the OS? Is ID patched to 8.0.1? -
InDesign Crashing when exporting to PDF, can't decipher the cause
I created a document in InDesign CS6, and each time I try to export the document to a PDF (of any compression, smallest file size, print quality, etc) InDesign crashes. I have zero errors in my preflight and no extraneous fonts.
I have restarted both my computer and ID and it is not responding differently.
I copied the crash report: http://pastebin.com/UBaVKmph
Any suggestions of thing to try that I overlooked?
Thread 22 shows the crash, but I am not certain what it is inducating and how to solve it, any pointers?

InDesign Crashes When Export to PDF - Only When Hyperlinks Checkbox is Enabled
I think I've read every single posting on the web for InDesign crashing on export, and have tried pretty much all of the solutions with no luck.
I am exporting a document (a table of contents document) in InDesign to PDF. With any of the export options on EXCEPT the hyperlinks option, it does fine. When I click on the hyperlinks option, it crashes.
I've recreated this document several times, e.g. exporting to IDML (which also causes it to crash), copying the text out and pasting it into a new document (still crashes)...the problem file is the one titled Intro_Electrical. I've tried replacing it with another document, but it still crashes. I've tried creating a new book, but it still crashes.
The link to the files is here:
https://www.box.net/shared/stbtj81v3j
Normally this would not be a big deal, but I have an ugly feeling that several of my foundation documents are based off of this file. If at all possible, I would like to be able to correct this issue instead of having to turn off the hyperlink option.
If you can offer any advice for correcting this, I'd really appreciate it. I've been dealing with this problem since CS4 and was hoping that it was something that would be fixed with CS5, but apparently not...or it's just me, I'm not sureThe table of contents is build ussing TOC module. It's collecting content from 7 book documents. I have almost the same file build in an other language and it's working perfectly. Never had this issue before. I can not find the difference between both documents. I tried to deleting all the chapters and ad them one by one but it's crashing the moment that hyperlinks are used no mater how many chapters from other documents are added. However if the table of contents is made only from one documnet - inside of that document hyperlinks are stable and pdf can be produced not cousing any issues.
I will try to delete page by page and check if I can discover problem maker. As this is going to be soooooooo time consuming I'm waiting for any other sollution. Anyone? -
Indesign crashes when exporting to pdf with .eps and .ai files placed
Hi everyone,
I have an Indesign file with 4 placed Illustrator .eps file placed. Whenever I try to export to pdf, it starts to export and then when it reaches a page with a .eps file on it, it hovers for a minute and then Indesign crashes. I decided to save these 4 .eps files as .ai files and replace them. Now when I export to pdf, it gets through the export and a pdf file is created but immediately after, Indesign crashes.
Is this a sign of corrupt .eps or .ai files or a corrupt Indesign file? All I know is that if I remove all the image files, then the ID file is fine, ie. it exports and ID doesn't crash.
Is there a way to test either .eps, .ai or Indesign files for corruption, and if they are corrupt is it possible to repair them?
Appreciate any help offered. You haven't said which version of Indesign you are using or other specs, but I would bet that you are using CS2 on an Intel Mac. CS2 runs under Rosetta on an Intel Mac, and I have found that memory problems are often the result of crashes like the ones you have described. My advice is to stay away from EPS files and use AI or PSD, especially if the file is a bitmap or photo. This has eliminated all the crashes that used to occur on my system. As far as the crashes after making PDF files, I don't have a solution other than restarting Indesign after exporting a PDF file or two at a time. The same Rosetta memory problem seems to mess it up for me. Mine would just exit from Indesign with no warning. Hope this helps.

Len Swierski -
