InDesign Crashing on folio article update

I am trying to update an article in an already existing folio and InDesign continually crashes at the 'Writing PNG' stage.  I have tried updating to the latest version, restarting, undocking the folio builder, renaming the file and relinking it.  Nothing seems to work.
Is this due to the update that was done yesterday? and is there a work around or hot fix?

I have figured out the issue.  One of my buttons that is set to open a specific state is making the upload crash.
I do not know why but as soon as I delete it the article updates perfect.

InDesign crashes while trying to update stories. I receive "serious error" message.

Our main InCopy guru is away from the forum for a day or so, but maybe someone else (not me) has some ideas. It will help though to get some more basic info.
What versions of ID, IC and your OS? Are the lates patches for ID and IC installed?

  • InDesign Crashes Opening Folio Builder Panel

While working on a publication, I will leave the Folio Builder panel to open a different one. Upon trying to reopen the builder panel so I can add my publication to the folio, InDesign crashes. Without fail, everytime. No matter what InDesign document I have open, it will crash. I have to force quit, reopen and add the document first thing. before begining work on another article.
    Anyone know why?

I open Indesign and it automatically signs me into my dps acct.
I begin working on an article (using the different tools like object states, buttons, video)
all of those panels are in the same tool group as the folio builder so folio builder gets collapsed while using the other tools.
when it is time to update my article and i go to open the folio builder panel is when it freezes InDesign.
I don't have any exact steps to reproduce this because the other tools I use varies, but if the folio builder panel gets collapsed, InDesign freezes when I reopen it.

  • InDesign crashing, newest update fails to install

Is anyone else having trouble with InDesign crashing, and the newest update fails to install?
I have uninstalled InDesign, restarted my macbook, reinstalled, and then tried the update, which says it has an error and fails to install. The current version crashes after asking it to do anything after opening the programme, such as opening a file or trying to select any of the menus.
I use a Wacom Bamboo tablet: could this have anything to do with it? A colleague had a similar issue with Illustrator and the Wacom driver. Would this affect the update installation?
    Help appreciated!

Yes, I have just had the same problem on my Spectre X360

  • InDesign CS 6 Folio Builder crashing

    Hello all,
I have a big problem with DPS tools for Adobe InDesign CS6 (CC) on Mac OS X Lion. Every time I start the Folio Builder or Folio Overlays panel it flickers 3 or 4 times and then the InDesign crashes. I have trashed the InDesign preferences and installed the latest patch for DPS tools without any improvement. Occasionaly the Folio Builder opens but then there are other issues (I've had 9 instances of the same file open at once with no way to close them - I close 3 or 4 and the same number of files  opens again).
I hope u understand it is quite annoying since i'm trying to build my first folio for a very important client and for now it's been a nightmare. I'm even considering reverting back to ID CS5.5.
    Please advise on further action.
A link to pastebin for error report: http://pastebin.com/ZvYHsGbd
    Thank you in advance,
    Matej

I've got the same problem here...
I installed InDesign 6 on Mac Snow Leopard system via the Adobe Application Manager and I'm using the Trial run for now.
After installation I updated all the components right away through the help menu in ID.
I also got InDesign 5.5 installed with the Digital Publishing Suite.
As soon as I click the Folio Overlays panel (docked or not docked) InDesign starts opening the same (so it seems) random file.
When I try to close one, another one opens, forcing me to force quit ID.
I allready tried the following solutions:
    - downloading the DPS directly from the website instead of the Updates menu
Which gives me an error when trying to install: 'can not apply updates'
    - I deleted the following preferences files and caches:
    /Users/user name/Library/Preferences/ StageManager.<long_guid>/Local Store/
    #SharedObjects
    - Tried the Ptach file, but it's an .exe so can't use it
Any other options? Beacuse it's pretty useless like this...
    Thanks a lot!

  • InDesign Crashes when uploading an article with Web Content Overlay - have checked forums

I'm making a folio for my design portfolio in InDesign CC
I currently have one article uploaded, when I try to add my next article InDesign crashes.
I have previously uploaded the article without the single web content overlay and it uploads fine.
The status bar gets stuck at the end 'Building folio ... Processing overlays...'
The content is a simple web form and is only on page 6/6 - not sure why it's freezing by adding a small page on the end.

I've just tried uploading a single page article with the Web Content overlay and it's crashed again.
Not sure if that means it's the web content?

  • Folio Builder Articles Update broken?

I cannot get Article Update to work since updating the Folio Builder panel. The file seems to compile and upload. But after the upload a gray spinner appears next to the article in the panel list, and I'm unable to access it. I've let it run for 20-30 minutes to see if it was just a slow connection, but it seems to be stuck.
The only workaround seems to be to delete the article and select Add to upload it from scratch, losing all of the article properties in the process.
After selecting Upload, nothing in the Folio Builder panel works until I delete the article with the spinner, then close and restart InDesign.
Article thumbnails are missing now, too (but only on articles uploaded with the new builder panel). And I can't open articles from the Folio Builder panel any more.
    Using InDesign CS5.5.
    SB

Not sure if anyone still has this issue... I have Adobe InDesign CS6, with the newest updated version of DPS. I was having the same issue when adding articles, the pin wheel would just run without end, tried all different formats, nothing.
Finally, I realized that I had been working off of an InDesign file located on a server, so I Packaged my InDesign File and transfered all my files onto my local Hard Drive (onto my MacBook Pro)
Tried the steps again and voila!
    Worked for me

  • InDesign crashes with new Mac OS 10.8.2 update

Indesign crashes once I updated to OS 10.8.2 can't use it now as anytime I access it get this message
Adobe InDesign is shutting down.  A serious error was detected.  Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign document.
Had to go to another machine with old version on Mac OS and Olde version of InDesign.  File report of the crash was sent to Adobe.
How do I load another version of InDesign from my Creative Cloud account to see if that would solve it?

It might be an issue with your user Preferences. Delete them and see if this solves your problem. They are located in the user Library folder which is hidden by default on OS X 10.7 and 10.8. You can make if visible by following the steps here http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/. You open the Terminal application and type chflags nohidden ~/Library/ to make your user Library visible.
Now open the Finder and click on your user name. Now navigate to Preferences > Adobe > Adobe InDesign > Version 8.0. Inside the Version 8.0 folder you will see a folder like en_US based on which language you are using. Drag this folder to the Trash. Launch InDesign and see if this fixes the error. The default preferences for InDesign will automatically be re-built upon application launch.

  • InDesign crashes when updating InCopy ICML files

I created an assignment file with around 20 different stories. The next time I opened InDesign the writer had input text to most of the story files. One story file was a couple of pages of text, the rest were just a few lines of copy, nothing huge. Every time I tried to update the ICML files InDesign crashed. I didn't matter if I only tried updating one story or all of them, it always crashed. I was working on a PC when this happened. I moved over to my Mac to try and updated the ICML files and it crashed there too.
The actual InCopy ICML files on the server were fine. The writer never realized there was a problem. All of the copy was sitting there, so I was able to go back and re-import all the copy.
I did all the basic stuff to resolve the issue like restart, trash the prefs, convert to INX, and try on different computer. Nothing worked, crashed InDesign every time.
I'm currently using CS5, but this same issue came up last year on another project in CS4 as well.
Has anyone had this happen and/or know of a fix other than re-importing all the story files?

Some might call me crazy, but in order to progress with my project I ended up having to create my own work around this crashing bug.
The problem with my situation was that the reviewers had already made their comments in InCopy and it wasn't until I tried opening the .indd file and updating the stories that we received the crash... every time.
My workaround - if the reviewers had made their comments in InCopy, hopefully with track changes enabled, in order to see their comments I did the following:
I opened the .indd file in InDesign CS5.5 (version 7.5.2). DO NOT UPDATE the document with the ICML stories. Instead I unlinked the .icml stories from the main document. I then opened the .icml files in InCopy 5.5. I was able to see the edits that were made by my reviewers and copy and paste them between InCopy and InDesign at that point.
I know, I know. This is totally a crazy thing to need to do when we have such a powerful tool (InDesign and InCopy). It comes down to, you must do what you must do to get the job done. I truly had no other option presented at the time. The project had to complete and the reviewers were not HAPPY to even think about reviewing the content again via PDF shared review.
The best advice I received from other forum users when I proposed the crashing issue was that it could be because of anchored objects being deleted or moved by an InCopy editor. Because InCopy is strictly a text editing tool, there may be an issue that causes InDesign to get frustrated when an edit moves or deletes an anchored object or frame. I had lots of anchored object, interactive objects, etc. in my document. To track down whether an anchored object moved or was deleted by a user was unsurmountable... my workaround, while painful, at least got the job done this time.
Any future projects will be moved back to CS4. That version atleast works with InCopy stories and Interactivity. I am sure one day this will be resolved... just wonder when.

  • Indesign crashes when updating incopy assignments!

    Hi,
I've read through some forums and it appears others are having this problem.
When I open indesign and it says do you want to update links (referring to the incopy assignements) that need updated.
I click ok, and Indesign crashes!!!!
One thing I read could be the issue....
    - anchored objects, (incopy can't handle all the anchored objects)
That is RIDICULOUS if that is the issue.  If so, Adobe should have had a disclaimer....don't buy incopy if you plan on having more than text in your document.
There are no error messages that come up, the program just crashes.  I'm using Indesign CS5 version 7.
A solution I read was to save the indesign file that keeps crashing when updating the assignments as an .idml file.
I tried this and it appeared to work, but what a joke!
This is very unreliable and has caused a lot of stress.
Anyone else have any solutions or can ADOBE come up with a solution???
    Thanks

First question is are you fully patched to 7.0.4? If not, download and install that patch.
Second: Do you have Suitcase Fusion 3 installed? If so, try disabling the autoactivation plugin.

  • Indesign crashes when updating a linked document

    This is a reproducible crash.
I have a indd file, several pages long with other embedded / placed indd documents inside.
When a linked file in the original documents has been changed, I naturally get a notice in the "links" tab. So far so good.
When I right-click and select "Edit original", the original document opens up and I get the usual notice if I like to update the changed link.
I select yes and save the document and close it to get back to doc I started with and then Indesign crashes.
Can this be fixed? It's extremely annoying.
    Tia.

Sphynx25 I have the exact problem and have been dealing with it for a couple years now, it's incredibly annoying. I wonder if there's some preference that would eliminate the document from automatically checking the links?? Seems this is what causes the crashes. I fiddled with what I could find in the preferences to no avail.
If you figure this one out please let me know, I'll do the same.

  • Why the Folio Producer update every article each time ?

I have remarked that the Folio Producer publish every article on the distribution server even if there's no update.
Before, the Folio Producer updated only articles which were modified by the folio builder.

It's a pain.  For some reason I have 2979 Genius items that sync every time.  It takes a half hour over wireless.  WHY?  I can't find an answer.

  • Cannot see offline folios after updating to iOS8

Hi guys, since i’ve updated my ipad to iOS version 8, i’m experiencing some issues with the adobe content viewer app.
The problem is that i cannot open the editions created before the update. The status bar keeps working but nothing happens. Differently, if i reupdate the folio by updating manually its articles, i get a duplicate edition on the content viewer app that works perfectly.
This only relates to offline folios uploaded trough the ipad’s cable.
Although it seems the problem is solved for me by redoing the update of every single articles, there’s a friend of mine (which seems had already posted the same question here) who cannot open his offline folios even when he do the articles update again.
Another strange issue, when i try opening the content viewer's default folio, i get a blank document and the app suddenly crashes.
i’m using Indesign cc 2014 with the latest update and a 2013 ipad mini retina.
    *UPDATE*
Announcement: Latest Digital Publishing Suite Update Includes iOS 8 Support and More « Adobe Digital Publishing
As i've seen on the adobe blog, on iOS8 you cannot view apps (and then folios) made under version v31. This would have answered my question, but i've tried making another folio in v32 and i get the same error.
I suppose it's something related to the iOS update, since i've tried on the Android version on my galaxy note and everything works just fine.

    Hi
I've just experienced exactly the same. I made a  v32 folio but once I go back to the library and try to re open it....nothing happen. I mean I see the status bar working but it doesn't open.
    I'll wait for the fix.

  • InDesign stalls on Folio Builder logout

InDesign locks up whenever I attempt to log out of Folio Builder. When I select logout it pauses and then the spinning beachball appears. At first I thought it might be an unresponsive server or Internet connection, but I've let it go for several hours on a couple of occasions and it doesn't recover. The only solution is to force quit.
This has happened consistently since the most recent DPS upgrade (to version 13.1.1.20130115_m_709452/8.0.10.25). It happens almost every time, with at least two different DPS accounts.
I'm running InDesign CS6 (8.0.1) on a mid-2012 Mac Pro, OS X 10.8.3. I've experienced other stability issues with InDesign since setting it up on this system, but they don't seem to be related to this.
    Anyone else experiencing this?
    Steve

I've been documenting each work session and for a while keeping the Folio Builder panel undocked seemed to make a difference. But for whatever reason the problem has gotten worse and now InDesign locks up consistently when I attempt to sign out. The only approach that gives me a fighting chance is signing out of FB immediately. If I do it right away -- without opening any folios, articles or pages -- it lets me sign out.
So for now my strategy is to simply close InDesign without signing out of FB, relaunch, then open FB and sign out immediately. Then I can switch to the account that I need to be working in.
I'm running a mid-2012 Mac Pro with OSX 10.8.3. I'll append the Console log for today's session to this message. I can send the hang reports if you're interested.
Since the application is terminating with exit code 15, is there a chance that the problem may be related to this?
Sorry I can't be more help. This is a nasty problem that's playing havoc with my workflow.

  • Number of folios after updating

In Folio Builder, if I revise an InDesign file and then use "update" it creates a new folio. Does this replace the existing folio and does it still count as "one" folio, or will I be charged for another folio?

If you revise a file and update it you don’t create a new folio (which is a collection of articles), you update an article within that folio.
