InDesign created PDF hyperlinks not working on a CD

Forum
I have multiple large documents (created in InDesign) that we are publishing as pdfs on a CD - they are hyperlinked together in InDesign (interactive dialogue) - but I cant get the links to work after the files are moved to a CD together.
The paths that are created for the links are just the local path on my computer - no good on the CD. How can I fix this????
Phil

The trick is to get everything into one folder- in other words, you have to determine the structure of the CD before you start linking things up with InDesign.
Create a folder that represents the root directory of the CD. In that folder you want your InD files AND the PDF files that you want to link to, all arranged as they will appear on the final CD. I frequently create "dummy" PDFs for this- they have the file name and they are in the right spot, but they contain nothing but a few words on one page. I can replace them later with the real McCoy, providing I don't change names or locations.
When it's all over, I remove the InD files and their associated Links folders, and what I'm left with is a single folder that represents the final CD.
I hope I explained this well enough-- it's much easier to show it than tell it.

  • PDF hyperlinks not working on app

I have pasted a PDF (with working links) on a folio page (folios done in PDF format). The page is uploaded but all links on the original PDF are not working once I view it on the app.
So I'm guessing folios with pasted PDFs on them don't transfer hyperlink properties to the final app? Even thought I've made the folio in PDF format? Does this mean I have to use boxes to create hotspots over the pasted PDF? Is there a way to transfer these properties from the original PDF and skip the hotspot step?
    Thanks.

You're right -- the placed PDF loses all its interactivity even when it becomes part of a PDF article. You'll need to add buttons over the PDF as you describe. Also, keep in mind that the Show/Hide Buttons action isn't supported in DPS, so you'll need to use a combination of buttons and MSOs to create hotspots, as described in this article:

  • Help! InDesign interactive PDF buttons not working in Safari or on iPad

I made an infographic in Indesign for our university magazine with a QR code to link to an interactive pdf. Nothing too complicated animation wise, simply buttons that you can click on to view different parts of the graphic. However, the buttons are not working at all in Safari and on the iPhone and iPad, the buttons disapear completley. Please help.

    Thanks,
    Gretchen

Whether buttons work correctly in a PDF file depend entirely on what PDF reader you're using. Here are a couple of important facts:
    * While corrected created interactive PDFs will display correctly in the FREE Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat, they probably won't display correctly in Apple's Preview application which is probably what you're viewing in Safari.
    * None of the PDF readers currently available on an iPad (e.g., iBooks, GoodReader, etc.) correctly handle interactivity like buttons on an iPad.

  • PDF Hyperlink not working-why?

I use a variety of hyperlinks within my topics - internally
within the topic, externally to remote topics, externally to other
media such as Excel, Word, etc. My problem is with PDF's.
My coworker can link no problem, and if I work on one of his
topics, I also see the pdf. If I create the pdf, however, on my pc
and embed it as a remote hyperlink, when clickin on the link in the
chm, I get the good ole "Page Not Found" error in the topic pane.
He and I both have XP and both use Office 2003. In our Word, we use
the PDF Toolbar to compile our Word Docs into pdfs.
WEIRD THING: I created several topics awhile back in Office
2000 and those pdfs continue to work!!!! Everytime I try to update
however, even those old topics, the new pdf won't open. If I
restore it to the old pdf, it works again. I assume by this there
is something weird on my pc with my MS Office - any ideas?
What kind of setting can we compare? Neither my supervisor
nor VP has any idea why this happens - Thanks!

    Hi Lisa and all
Well, I do have one thought that may work. Seems the goal
here is to use MOTW and still be able to make links work. I'm
thinking that one could create a redirect topic that would do the
linking. The trick with this would be to keep the redirect page out
of the main topic files. After all, the topic files are all
recipients of MOTW. So how to create a HTML page that doesn't end
    up receiving MOTW?
Use RoboHelp to create the redirect page. A redirect page is
created by inserting the following META tag:
    <meta HTTP-EQUIV=refresh CONTENT="0;URL=FileName.PDF">
Just replace FileName.PDF with the actual file name you wish
    to use.
Now you should have a topic in RoboHelp that will perform a
redirect. The trick here is to make RoboHelp unaware of it. So this
is one of the few times I'll actually suggest stepping behind
RoboHelp's back and making a change. Right-click the redirect topic
and look at the topic properties. Click the File tab. See that
button labeled "Open Folder"? Click the button. Rename the topic
file name and close Windows Explorer.
Back in RoboHelp, you should see that RoboHelp now has a
fancy red X on the topic, indicating it cannot find it. This is
good and what you want! Just delete the topic from RoboHelp. You
aren't really deleting the topic. Only the errant reference. Now
right-click the baggage files folder and import the redirect topic
as a baggage file. If the topic exists as a baggage file and not a
normal topic, it shouldn't receive the standard MOTW stamp.
Give that a go and see if it works. Hopefully it will!
    Cheers... Rick

  • Adobe Create PDF printer not working fully!

    Hi all!
I have a minor problem with Adobe Create PDF printer. I installed and I was able to print couple word docs, but stopped working.
I dont know why. I am still able to print web pages and others, but cant "print" pdf from word, ooutlook, Autocad, etc.
It is stopped working correctly after I tried to print from Autocad, also I have had problems with activating my Photoshop sub and Adobe support made same changes to my AAM and Photoshop, may be that is what caused my problem, I don't know, neither does support. Support has no other idea we went thru every detail but still can't use Create PDF correctly.
    Any ideas?
I have already installed this hotfix:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat-com/kb/createpdf-desktop-printer-windows-7.html
    But still no solution.

    Hi Pleso
Can you login to this website https://createpdf.acrobat.com/signin.html using same account?
Please email me directly at [email protected] and we can do a online session to troubleshoot this issue.

  • Interactive PDFs from InDesign 5.5 - hyperlinks not working at all!

I'm creating hyperlinks the way I always did in CS4 (type tool - hyperlinks panel etc) but when I export to PDF either through the new interactive PDF option OR the old print option switching on the interactive check box none of my hyperlinks work in Acrobat. I've checked the Adobe help menus and I don't seem to be doing anything wrong. Does anybody have any ideas? I've got 12 catalogues I need to make into interactive PDFs this afternoon and it's just too slow adding the interactivity in Acrobat (not to mention that if I have to edit any content I'll have to re-do all the interactivity each time). HELP.

I have found a way around this of sorts. Rather than right-clicking to bring up the hyperlinks menu I have to use the hyperlinks panel and specifically use the shortcut at the bottom of the panel. The dialogue box that pops up is slightly different to the one I get when going the long way round. I'm still kind of baffled, but it does seem to work...

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 plus I create PDF files for work some are scan pdf docs. When I install Photoshop Elements 10 it DOES convert all the PDF files to Photoshop Elements-10 Docs. it even changes and shows the PSE-10 Icon. So I am alway installing PSE-10 or uninstalling it. If I send the  PDF file that has been automatically converted to a PSE-10 the person I send the file to can not open it because they do not have PSE-10. What can I do to stop PSE-10 from converting my PDF files? Don't tell me to upgrade PSE-10 I tried their on-line program and  it is too advance for a hobby photographer like myself and their Help Desk is impossible to reach.

In MS Outlook 2010 Add in Create pdf- does not create pdf of draft emails- this maybe the case, but just wanted to make sure this is normal for the program- though I guess one can print as an Adobe pdf but it does not maintain the hyperlinks of email addresses etc. the functionality is compromised in a print vs create a pdf.

Here's a workaround by the team:
Right click on the message from Explorer list view or folder view and chose the option to convert to PDF.

Same problem. Am using Firefox 24 (W7x64).

I changed the pdfjs.disabled in about:config to true but that didn't help.

  • Hyperlinks not working in PDF created from Word

I have created a Word document containing hyperlinks but when I print it to a PDF file (using Acrobat 7.0.9 on Windows Server 2003), the hyperlinks look OK in the PDF file but nothing happens when I click on them.
In Acrobat, under Edit > Preferences > Convert to PDF > Microsoft Office > Edit Settings, the "Add bookmarks and links to Adobe PDF file" option is ticked.
How can I get the hyperlinks to work in a PDF file created from a Word document?

The original post did not indicate the method of creating the PDF. The result that was obtained was what happens when you print to the Adobe PDF printer. To get the hyperlinks embedded in the PDF, you have to use the PDF Maker (create PDF in WORD 2007).

  • Hyperlinks not working in PDf created from Keynote '08

When I produce a pdf from File > Print in Keynote '08, the hyperlinks do not work in the pdf. I have tried all the various pdf settings (even the ones that export hyperlinks) and no luck, the links are not working in the pdf. If I invoke the File > Export > PDf command in Keynote, the hyperlinks do work, but Export does not provide as much flexibility in PDF creation that File > Print does, thus my need to go to File > Print.
    Any suggestion?

The described one is the one which is used by default by every iWork's components.
We must enter the true one by ourselves.
