InDesign CS 2 v 4.0.5 cannot export PDF or print some documents

Using MAC OS X 10.3.9
and InDesign CS 2 v 4.0.5
Some InDesign documents refuse to be exported as PDF or printed.
In some cases the export PDF of InDesign produces a blank PDF with 0 kb size. Sometimes it gives an error message "Failed to export pdf file", but not always.

I doubt that this is a version or OS problem. It's more likely either a problem with imported content or possibly insufficient disk space or memory to process the PDF.
Tell us about the document and how it's made. What sort of images? Any nested PDFs?

I cannot export PDF file to Excel by Save as progress which save to Excel spreadsheet as Adobe software have teach us.

InDesign export PDF path should follow document path

I love InDesign totally. Well, almost...
I often work on several documents over the course of a day, or sometimes I won't work in InDesign for several days. In either case, InDesign exports the PDF to the last path exported to rather than following the path of the document I am working on. I find this mildly annoying to highly aggravating, depending on my work load. (I can't say how many times I have "lost" a PDF I just exported, only to find some time later that it saved to the last export location, which often has nothing to do with the document I'm exporting from.)
Is there any setting I can change for this? I don't mind mucking in the registry if I have to.

I'm pretty sure that would be scriptable. I don't write scripts myself, but I had Dave do one for me last year for correcting homework. It does all sorts of neat stuff like locking existing layers, adding a new one, changing the default text color and saving a new version of the file into the old directory so pretty much all I need to do is run it and type my comments.

Indesign CC won't print color while exported pdf from the same document can!

I tried everything I know. Even reseting indesign..
As I mentioned in the title, when I try the pdf file that I exported from indesign it just works fine.
And I have no problem printing with color in Illustrator, Photoshop or any other softwares but Indesign.
Do I miss something?

I'm sorry to say, but I think it's probably a printer driver problem. Unfortunately, HP printer drivers have poor performance with Adobe InDesign. Do make sure you have to latest printer driver version, however.

Export pdf vs print to pdf in InDesign???

For years I've "printed to pdf" via InDesign and had no problems with the quality/accuracy of my output. As I've adopted some of the advanced techniques such as knocking objects out with alpha channels and transparency, I've noticed that more and more, my output is flawed. As a result I've reworked my files in Photoshop so that the knockouts and transparency occurs there and is placed into ID as bitmapped artwork.
Recently I was having a problem outputting a file and sort of stumbled upon Export as PDF. When I tried it, my file output perfectly! I'm thrilled to say the least.
What I'm wondering is what's the difference between the two? I'm wondering now why there's even a print to PDF option? If I were Adobe I'd make a clearer distinction between the two and the benefits of both.

Print to PDF is a shortcut for printing to a postcsript file and distilling. Export does not use postscript at all, but instead uses an internal PDF library. Exported PDF supports color management, interactivity, layering, transparency and other advanced features not avaialble in distilled PDF, and is the recommended method for producing PDF from ID.

Cannot export pdf's.

When I try to save a pdf, safari says that it cannot be exported. The pdf's save fine in other browsers and it isn't any particular pdf.

Cannot Export PDF with Hyperlinks and Bookmarks

Hi Everyone,
I've recently upgraded to InDesign CS3. I opened a 40 page document that was completed in InDesign CS2. When I try to export to a PDF (with include hyperlinks and bookmarks) the program quits once it reaches the 5th page.
I've tried exporting without hyperlinkes and bookmarks checked and PDFing works fine. I had no previous PDFing issues when working in CS2.
Any suggestions/tips/guesses would be appreciated.

Hi! I need help w indesigns hyperlink...
I am working on a long document and have 5 files, I was able to use hyperlink on each one that way the reader could jump fr one file (or page) to another. The hyperlink worked perfectly on PDF. Now I need to merge these five PDF's into 1 PDF file but the hyperlink that I have created on individual files doesnt work in a combined PDF. Is there a run-around on this? Any suggestions? I'm just new in indesign and need inputs. Thanks!

InDesign CC: unable to export PDF for Print

Hi there, I update my subscription to CC, start working with inDesign and found I can't export an Adobe PDF (Print). The pop down menu in the export window is blocked on Adobe PDF (interactive) and there's no way to choose other export format... :-(
Have anyone experienced the same and found a solution?

Cannot get PDFs to print automatically

I work in an elementary school where we have visitors use a website to check in and out of the school. When a visitor checks in, the website creates a pdf file for their name badge.
Instead of training the parents of the 1200 students at my school how to print the badge, I created an Folder Action plug-in in Automator to automatically print the pdf file and then delete the file.
Here are the basic steps of my script:
Find the Finder item pdf file
Render the pdf as images
print the images
Find the Finder item pdf file again
Delete the file
If I try simply Finding the Finder item, and then printing the Finder item, it prints it in portrait mode instead of landscape mode and half the information is cut off. I cannot change the default orientation mode for the printer.
The problem is for some reason, when the program runs automatically (when it detects the file has been downloaded), it sends two copies of the pdf to the printer. This prints two labels for every visitor--what a waste!
I have spent the last 2 weeks trying to get it to only print one badge, but I can get it to print 2 badges, 3 badges, or blank badges, but not one.
Can anyone tell me how to get the Render PDF as Images > Print Images to only print 1 copy instead of 2? Thank you.

It sounds like you might have leftover items from previous actions carrying through to your print action. You can use the View Results to see what is going in and out of the actions and ignore as needed - each action has the option to ignore the input from previous actions (if applicable).

Cannot export PDF properly

Dear All,
Our customer is using SAP2007 PL45. SQL 2005, US localization.
Everybody remote to terminal server and use SAP from their.
The terminal server is Windows Server 2003.
When they export service call to pdf file, sometimes, it has .pdf as of the extension. Sometimes not.
They've reinstalled PDF viewer for few times.
Any idea?

It seems that the windows settings enable the file extension to display and all file extension is exposed.
Goto Folder Options - View - Check the Hide file extension.

CANNOT EXPORT PDF TO XL LEGIBLY

An order we shipped to one of our overseas customers is stuck in customs there because they want our invoice and packing slip in excel format rather than the pdf format we provided. For only that purpose, I just purchased the convert pdf to excel software to be able to do this. However, after the conversion is complete and I open the file in excel, the columns and tabs are all over the place, text is sometimes over or below (instead of next to) where its supposed to be. I am thinking of just cancelling the conversion package I just bought and going right into excel and type everything by hand but it is way too much to do and would be so time consuming.
Can you please help me ???? I have been to some "fix forums" but too confusing for me.

Cannot export data to XL - "COS document table full" Error

I am trying to export about 270 records from a PDF dataset to a CSV file, but I can only export about 126 of them.
What is the work around that will allow me to do this?

This is a very disappointing system flaw. I had to chop my file into four parts and then export each part and then stitch it back together. I also had to clear out all my temp files after each of the four exports. Acrobat presented a lot of problems. Too many people wrote back and said they could not submit or fill out the forms. Adobe needs to make this system work easily for all past versions of Acrobat if they expect people to use it.
Here are the instructions on how I cleared the temp files.
Acrobat would not export all the data at one time. The dataset document had to be chopped into four smaller parts in order to make it small enough to export. This was accomplished by making four copies of the form, then deleting all of the data for a range of the responses (e.g. delete last names that start with F-Z). Even after this, it was still necessary to clear all temporary files on the user's computer after each of the four copies of the file was exported. That process consisted of: Click Start, Run, then type "temp" and clear all the files from the folder that comes up, AND type "%tmp%", and clear all the files that come up from that search.

Cannot view pdf files on some site but Adobe plug-in test sites work and it is uo to date. What is wrong? Using FF5 under XP

A new Firefox window is opened when I click on pdf file but it is blank with no menu or toolbars. Have enabled plug-in and it seems ok.

I do not recall anything specific about other extensions preventing pdf use, so you will have to try them all. But first of all check again, just incase you merely needed to clear the cache and it is working again !
The quickest method is to repeatedly slice into 1/2s until you find the guilty add-on
Disable 1/2 of your add-ons and see if it works, if not working you know it is one of those you did not disable, disable 1/2 of them. (So you now have 3/4 disabled )
It is also probably a good idea to at the same time check add-ons and plugins are up-to date.

Cannot Export PDFs

Hey everybody, when I open Adobe Bridge CS5 I get a bunch of TypeErrors.
Then I get an error that says a error occurred in a Bridge Extension.
Everything works kinda good, but then I get an out of disk space error when I try to export PDFs. Any idea what gives?
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling CS5 with no luck...
