Indesign cs 5.5 for windowskeeps shutting down

Indesign 5.5 is shutting down constantly,  windows 7 doesn't provide crash log, have amt3 log can anyone tell me how to fix this, have re-loaded cs programs, run cleaner tool.  Yet still it shuts down for no apparent reason, even when know other programs are open. System is a new Toshiba laptop with 6 gigs of ram.

Doesn't seem to be anything in particular, problem is random, we have reinstalled the cs 5.5, run the clean sweep program from adobe. It just tells me that Indesign is shutting down. The file usually reloads alright but there has been a couple of files that become damaged and unable to open, both on my system and others. Is it possible to supply you with the amt3 log from my system to let you know what my computer is doing? As a side note we, purchased three cs 5.5 Indesign programs for our business and the same thing is happening on one of the other system. It seems to help their system if they run absolutely nothing at the same time. If we are running photoshop and Illustrator open and other programs they do fine without problem, it is as soon as we open Indesign that the problem happens. It is also important to note that the two computer systems we are running are different sytems completely. This has become a huge problem, we are a graphics firm with combined 60+ yeras experience and are very familiar with these programs and have never had this problem before with past cs 4.0 and cs 3.0. Please help!!!! this is really becoming a problem and I have seen the blogs showing other people are having this closing problem with Indesign.

  • Running a Java Program for every shut down of system

    Hi
I have a java program that sends an email to the Admin of my network.
But this is program i just want to execute for every shutdown and on of my system
Please Tell me how to execute my java program at system shutdown time and on time..
    Thanks

Despite your objective, this is not a Java issue. The real question is "How does one run a program just before system shutdown?"
How you execute such an application is system dependent. Java doesn't know when the system shuts down, only when the JVM shuts down. Unless you're willing to have JVM running the entire time the system is up, you'll need native code to detect system shutdown & launch the notification app.

  • My Mac has a dark curtain that slowly goes down the screen and then asks for a shut down of the computer. What is happening? What do I do?

I am having a problem with my Mac Pro spontaniously having a darkened curtain that slowly goes from top to bottom of the screen and then in a message box asks me to shut the computer down. There is no warning. I cannot go on with my work as it seems to freeze whatever I am doing. I do no lose the work I am doing, usually, but it is hard and annoying while working. Any helps? I have taken off most apps and fonts that I have installed secondarily. What can cause this and what do I do?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

  • Firefox for android shuts down due to flash plug in not disabling screen sleep timer

When viewing flash stream the tablet will go into sleep mode after designated timer setting. Firefox will then hang after waking up neccessitating restart of Firefox and re-sellection of stream. Max 30 min timer on tablet so intermittent activity necessary to prevent sleep fault. Is a fix or setting available to prevent this from happening? Fault does not occur with standard browser but prefer to use Firefox.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I'm running 10.4.11, apparently when I took it to the store they decided to reinstall tiger instead of giving me Leopard like I had..

  • How can i shut down depreciation for an Asset for few days??

    Hi Friends,
How can i shut down depreciation of a particular Asset for few days say 5 days??
I have done the necessary changes in Time dependent tab like checked asset shut down and in AFAMA i changed the shut dawn as YES.
The only problem i am in is "how can i maintain the 5 days like from 10.05.2009 to 14.05.2009
If i go to MORE INTERVALS then only From date is available over there. There is no To date opition.
How can i maintain To Date??
    Plz suggest.
    Regards,
    Sumaya

    Hi
Go for shut down approach. But your depreciation key should allow shut down. check your depreciation key configuration
    In asset master data
    Go to time dependent terms,
Define the appropriate time interval for shutdown
    Set the shutdown indicator
The system does not calculate the depreciation for the shut down period,
The useful life of the asset will increase to the extent of shutdown period.
When you remove the shutdown indicator, system automatically resumes the depreciation calculation.

  • DFM alert for shutting down a port?

I am using LMS 3.2, and when are shutting down a port, I don't receive any alerts. Is there any alert for administratively shutting down a port of a device?

DFM criteria for a interface down is
ifOperStatus = down and ifAdminStatus = up.  If you down the interface then ifAdminStatus will be down and not up, so DFM does not treat this an alarmed event.

  • CC software shuts down after 1/3 of a second - launches entire interface, quits with NO error messae

Can anyone help on the specified problem?
I have wasted hours talking to people on the Adobe chat now.
I signed up for Student Creative Cloud yesterday. Started downloading and installing InDesign and Photoshop. Both programs shut down about 1/3 of a second after launching. The software launches with full interface and then shuts WITHOUT any error message.
I also tried to open InDesign projects that I copied from another computer. It will load them perfectly fine, but directly asks to save them and upon doing so it shuts down.
It this a technical issue? Account issue? Please help - deadlines are coming up.

UPDATE: I also downloaded and installed Muse and Premiere.
Muse works, Premiere, Photoshop and InDesign do not.
There were older CS6 trial versions of Premiere, Photoshop and InDesign installed on this computer. I deleted everything before I installed my subscription software.
Could that be related to something?

  • Why won't my G5 shut down after upgrading to OS 10.4?

Hey guys. I have a problem with upgrading my OS to 10.4.
I am running a Late 2004 Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 with two internal drives. About a month ago, I upgraded the OS to 10.4.3. It was great having spotlight, but the comptuer would refuse to shut itself down. Instead, it closes all the apps and windows, and gives me a spinning ball. After about 10 minutes, the hard-drives stop clicking, after which the fans kick on and stay on full blast until I manually unplug the comptuer. I have upgraded to 10.4.6, reset PRAM, reset SMU (PMU?), verified and repaired...
In thinking that this was a problem with the OS on the previous system, I installed 10.4.3 (my install disc) onto my second drive, which was happily running 10.3 (this was my backup). If running on this other drive, with 10.4.3, it also fails to shut down! I have done the same suite of resets and upgrades to 10.4.6, but it still doesn't shut down. Is there an incompatibility between my G5 and 10.4? Any advice about what I can do? Help!

There are many reasons to become unable shutting down or restarting from Apple Menu. Some were explained by other posters.
Most importantly, loginwindow (the parent process is launchd.) close out the user session, continue to set the device permissions and user preferences to their defaults in a restart action, or the process power off the system in a shutdown action. However, the issue proves that somewhere in those routines cannot be performed.
Users authentication system seems to be intact because you can restart or shutdown from the login window. However, the admin account authenticated by the Tiger security systems could confuse somehow and affect loginwindow process for setting up the user environment. This may result in interfering with the process for the shutdown and restart mentioned above.
Test if you can shutdown from the keyboard-- Holding down controloptioncommand keys, and then press the eject key.
Check if the loginwindow plists are corrupted. To do this test, remove the followings to temporary folders on the desktop, and shutdown from the keyboard shortcut combination. Restart the computer to test the recurrence.
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow.plist
    /Users/HOME/Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow.plist
Try disabling Login Items for third-party applications via the Accounts system preference, if any.
Verify whether any third-party kernel extensions (including device drivers) interfere with the loginwindow hooks process-- Start up with a Safe-mode, then test the Restart from Apple Menu to see whether it works. Also, boot into a Single-user mode, and test if "reboot" command is available from the BSD layer. The I/O Kit API for software developers provides a shutdown hook so that ".kext" troubleshooting may need to be considered. Besides, some bad programmed extension may not be unloaded automatically at a shutdown or restart.
If the computer is configured with Irish language Input method and/or third-party Irish keyboard, try disabling them to test.
A third-party application or custom script may interfere with the loginwindow hooks for the Shut Down or Restart. For example, if you install an application that prevents casually powering down a system, the Shut Down and Restart buttons may not work. Also, if you install a P2P file sharing application, try uninstalling it.
As last resorts, troubleshoot a bad RAM and consider "Erase and Install" solution.
    OPTION:
Post a part of system.log that indicates events from "localhost kernel[0]: standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us" to the next same line.
This may help to narrow down because restarting or shutting down the system process can initiate the procedure programmatically by sending an appropriate Apple event to Mac OS X Tiger's system process (loginwindow).
Likewise, check console.log whether any failures is reported.
    Corrections:
Most importantly, the loginwindow (the parent process is launchd.) close out the user session, continue to set the device permissions and user preferences to their defaults in a restart action, or the process power off the system in a shutdown action.
However, the admin account authenticated by the Tiger security systems could confuse somehow and it may impact on the loginwindow process for setting up the user environment. This may result in interfering with the process for the shutdown and restart as mentioned above.
    Addendum:
If you post a copy of system.log, consider to edit the Ethernet interface ID to a fake value.

  • Frozen halfway through shutting down

Hi, I also posted this under iMac cd/dvd drive forum, but thought I'd give it a shot here too just in case:
Help! I have a brand new iMac (got it for Xmas) and am very computer un-savvy so I need some assistance. I loaded a cd which never showed up on the desktop, and it made everything other than Safari unclickable (kaleidoscope whirly showed up). I tried the eject button on the keyboard, looked online on how to force eject, tried that, didn't work, then found online some suggestions to shut down then restart the computer. I forced shut down, got the dialogue boxes for shutdown and everything I had open, but now it's frozen halfway through shutting down. I can see my desktop background and mouse cursor, but there's no dashboard, no menu at the top...I tried holding down the keyboard shortcuts for force shut down, tried holding down the power button on the back...HELP!!!! I'm starting to freak out. I've had to get on my laptop in order to post this since NOTHING is working on the iMac. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

nevermind, someone is helping over at cd/dvd drive. thanks...

  • Mac Pro won't shut down

I'm helping a friend with her new Mac Pro quad (latest model, 6g RAM, 1TB OEM drive, 2 extra 1TB Seagate Enterprise drives installed for storage, 24" ACD) and she can't shut it down now. Worked fine for the last week since she bought it all but now it won't. I've had her do all of the usual things like Permissions Repair and such, but still the problem exists. All software updates have been performed, everything works fine except for the shut down routine. There's not much software on the box, Photoshop CS4 and Bridge, and that's about it, other than the OEM Apple stuff. The Adobe apps have current updates, too.
    Any ideas?

try restarting with the command-option-p-r keys held down. Failing that, shut it down hard, then unplug everything...power..usb firewire...everything. Let it sit for 5min (that's prob longer than needed) and then restart. Failing that, call Apple tech support.

  • Java program shuts down when I close Terminal.

    I use following:
    Java: 1.3.1_01
    Platform: Solaris
    Shell: bourn
I've a java program in which, I've implemented shutdown hooks (Runtime.addshutdownhook()) for proper shut down of my application.
I've a shell script to start & stop this application.
Now, if I use bourn shell to start this app, when I close the terminal window, the program also shuts down.
I tried using 'nohup' command but its not working. I also tried starting it in background by appending '&'. It is not working either.
Can someone pls give me solution?
    - Samir

I don't think there is a solution to your problem (other than not to close the terminal window) because according to the documentation:
    addShutdownHook
    public void addShutdownHook(Thread hook)
Registers a new virtual-machine shutdown hook.
The Java virtual machine shuts down in response to two kinds of events:
    1) The program exits normally, when the last non-daemon thread exits or when the exit (equivalently, System.exit) method is invoked, or
    2) The virtual machine is terminated in response to a user interrupt, such as typing ^C, or a system-wide event, such as user logoff or system shutdown.
The behavior you described is consistent with what I see on my Windows 98SE.

  • Mac Pro suddenly takes very long to boot and won't shut down... just spins

My Mac started taking very long to boot up... maybe 10 minutes before the icon bar becomes available.
Also, it won't shut down... it just spins. I've waited 30 minutes with no results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

    CBuss,
The long boot cycle points to preference corruption. And not the kind that can be corrected with re-boots etc., Check Hard Drive>Library>Preferences to see if the listings make "visual" sense. If there are a lot of letters with circles over them and numbers interspersed, you are skating out on thin ice.
Back up everything now, then do a clean install of your current OS. Do not to an "archive". That will probably archive the corruption as well. Go up to Snow Leopard if you can. Add your data back manually as well. If you keep going with these lingering start ups, you will shortly get the "?" at startup instead of the Apple/ Chime and the long, expensive, recovery (by somebody else) will begin.
As for the 'shut down" issue.. I am still in the dark. Something is still "running" and canceling the shut down cycle.
    Cheers

  • G5 dual 1.8 WON'T shut down with TIGER 10.4.7

Hi all. Updated the G5 dual with Tiger, did the 10.4.7 combo update and it still won't shut down. Have to hold the power button. I've tried creating a new administrator but to no avail. Logging out won't do it either. I upgraded from 10.3.9 for music software reasons--too bad I was "forced up" since 10.3.9 worked fine. My G4 laptop 1.33 has no issues with Tiger at all.

  • Safari shuts down when I try to do anything connected with bookmarks...

I can't import any of them from IE nor add new ones...What to do?

There are experienced and helpful people here who run Safari under Windows. Be patient--this isn't chat and Monday mornings tend to keep people busy with work.
Allow me to offer a suggestion that might help you get noticed by the right contributors: Before 15 April 2011, there were separate forums for the Mac and Windows versions of Safari. The new forum software unfortunately lumped a lot of stuff together. So....
...were I using Safari for Windows, I would insert "Windows" in every title I posted here so those people most experienced with it can see your post at a glance, rather than having to open the hundreds of new posts every day to find the 20-40 that are about Safari for Windows.
For this thread, the title could look somthing like this:
safari (Windows) shuts down when i try to print
    or
safari for Windows shuts down when i try to print
    Hope this helps,
    Allan
