InDesign CS2 4.0.5 and OS X 10.4.11

I am currently running CS2 InDesign 4.0.5 on my MAC 10.4.11, and am having issues with InDesign locking up. In the Adobe Troubleshooting Guides I found a reference to the fact that CS2 only works on MAC OS X v10.2.8 through v10.3.8?
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=331388&sliceId=2
Is this just a stale link (i.e. at the time it was posted, OS X was only up to 10.3., or is this true? Did Adobe stop supporting CS2 at 10.3.8? Am I obligated to move to Leopard and CS3 to fix the problem I am having in InDesign?

CS2 works just fine inTiger its not in that article because Tiger had not been released when that was written.

  • InDesign CS2 - 100 document limit and compatibility with newer versions

    Hello,
I have Adobe InDesign CS2 and am using it to compile a large report. I have come across a problem once i tried to add more than 100 documents to my book and now see there is a 100 file limit to books in CS2. Each document needs to stay as a single file so i am unable to join files to overcome this problem.
I have a summary table at the beginning of the document detailing the title of each file in the book. I am unable to work out how to create page hyperlinks in the pdf to the second book (documents over the 100 mark).
It has since come to fruition that my company has updates to CS3 and CS5 and that these new versions do not have a 100 file limit in creating books. This document i am creating is over 400 pages long so i am wary of upgrading to a new version when i am not far from publishing.
Should i have any concerns in upgrading to a new version of InDesign when i have almost finished my report? Would it be better to just upgrade to CS3 and not make such a large jump to CS5? Or does anyone know how to create page hyperlinks in my pdf to the files contained in the second book?
Thanks for any help! Much appreciated.

Normally I would advise against changing versions in midstream on a project like this, but I'm not sure you have a choice. My instinct is there will be fewer issues moving to CS3 than CS5, but there are far more features in CS5 you might like to use...
One way to limit the possible anomalies would be to export all the CS2 files to .inx na open those in CS5, rather than converting the .indd files directly, then save as new CS5 .indd files and add to a new book. One very serious issue you may run into wehn moving to a later version is that the text engines are updated and text won't necessarily flow exactly the same, particualry justified text, which can cause line endings to move and some paragraphs may gain or lose a line, which can have a really devastating effect on a long doc if it causes a page count to shift. The killer is that the changes normally don't happen until you start to edit text in that story. I believe the .inx route will force a recompose on opening, but I'm not dead certain, so take a look at http://indesignsecrets.com/force-text-reflow-when-indesign-forgets-to-flow-the-text.php to see how to force the recompose manually as soon as you open the file (you'd only need to do it once, before saving in the new version, for each file), then check carefully for oversets or other problems. Live preflight in CS5 can help with that.
As you can tell, a successful move to a newer version is likely to be a lot of careful work preparing and checking the files. Some of it can be automated (the export to .inx, the recompose, and the save in the new version) by scripting, but in all honesty you're going to need to check every page when you are done.
One of the others who uses Hyperlinks will need to weigh in on ID's native abilities and linking to other files in a book. I know that doing that with cross-references (which don't even exist natively prior to CS4) is extremely likely to break down at some point and leave you trying to remake them all, and large numbers of links across docs is likely to slow CS5 in particular to a crawl unless all files (at least the ones to which there are links in the doc you are editing) in the book are open.

  • InDesign CS2 - Korean Language Support

    All:
I am running InDesign CS2 v.4.0, and would like to place a MS Word document that includes Korean text. Currently, the text is displayed as sqaures in InDesign once the document has been placed.
Ideally I'd also be able to copy/paste Korean text from the Word doc to the InDesign layout.
Does InDesign support Korean text? Is there an update that can be applied to the app to allow for this?
    Matt

ID "supports" it -- for a given value of "support".
What you see is most likely because the current
    i font
in your InDesign does not contain these Korean characters. Select another font of which you are sure it has these characters, and all should be fine.
Fonts that support lots and lots of characters do not appear in the standard (sorted) position in the font list. They can be found at the very bottom, grouped by ... something... (perhaps character subset support). Try Arial Unicode MS for starters -- just to check if it works!! Then pick a nice one.
By the way, Korean is written from Left to Right, isn't it? If it's
    i Right-to-Left,
well, then I was wrong and it's not supported :-( And you can't buy an upgrade either. RTL languages work only with the ME (= Middle East) version of ID, and that's not by Adobe.

  • How to activate indesign cs2?

    Hello.
I have bought InDesign CS2 many years ago and used it till now.
After crash of my Windows XP I can not activate new installation. I have read this: Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3, but there is no Polish version.
What can I do do use CS2 in Polish version?
    Ragards, Piotr.

It's unlikely there is anything that they can do in the other forum, but the OP might want to read this old article at InDesign Secrets: Change InDesign’s UI Language with Free App | InDesignSecrets. Buried in the comments are registry settings for changing the language for windows users that might, and that's only might, work.

  • InDesign CS2 won't open: error msg states "Please install the MetaData plug-in and restart"

I'm unable to open my InDesign CS2 program, and am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me. When I try to open it, I get an error message stating: "Cannot load Adobe InDesign CS2 because it requires MetaData. Please install the MetaData plug-in and restart Adobe InDesign."
It worked just fine last week - I have no idea what happened this week... (other than my 3-yr-old 'playing' with my computer...) I am able to open other CS2 programs like Illustrator and Photoshop. Any ideas for me??

Try trashing your preferences: Hold down Shift + Control + Option + Command immediately after launch. You'll get a dialog asking if you want to delete your preferences. If no dialog comes up you didn't do it fast enough.

  • Illustrator CS2 and InDesign CS2 not starting - here is how it was solved.

This document is merely a compilation of information found at the sources named at the bottom of this document.
Basically running older Adobe CS2 Software on a MacBook Pro 10.6.x Snow Leopard - probably like many of you that either can't afford the upgrade to CS3, CS4 or CS5, or maybe don't see the need to do so.  It's running good but it is slow since it is using Rosetta, but it does work - well, used to work.
Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, Photoshop CS2, etc. were all running fine after the upgrade to Snow Leopard (under 10.6, 10.6.1 and 10.6.2).  Then the update to 10.6.3 was installed.  At the same time a bunch of other updates - including the Acrobat 8.2 update - were installed.  Not really sure what did it, but all of a sudden Illustrator CS2 stopped responding at the start up screen - no longer started up and InDesign CS2 popped the registration/licensing screen.  When trying to enter license info on first key press the application quit entirely.
So maybe the 10.6.3 update was the culprit.  Never even thought that it could be the Acrobat 8.2/8.2.1 updates.  Then I found this thread here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/613287?tstart=0 (good reading)
Which ultimately pointed me the the instructions here:
    >start quote from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/534/cpsid_53468.html
Replace the corresponding files present in the “ /Library/Application Support/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/” folder with the one attached to this document.
Download the attached Mac.dmg (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/534/cpsid_53468/attachments/Mac.dmg) file to a machine where the issue is seen.
    Close all Adobe applications
Double Click the Mac.dmg file to mount it.
Copy Mac folder from mounted image. Paste it to /Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/.
A message appears to confirm to replace the existing 'Mac' folder. Replace the 'Mac' folder.
Launch Illustrator or InDesign CS or CS 2.
The Mac folder attached to this KB document already has the correct permissions set, so it should not be necessary to complete the steps below. However there may be cases where the permissions for the Mac folder get overwritten. In such a case, the original issue can reoccur. To solve this issue, complete the steps below:
Follow Solution 1 and make sure that all Adobe applications are closed.
Right or Control click and select 'Get Info' on the Mac folder  in “ /Library/Application Support/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/”, which you have copied from the .dmg file attached to this document.
Verify that under 'Sharing and Permissions' all users listed have no write access
If a change is required, click the padlock symbol and provide your Administrator credentials
Select the user which has Write access and change it to 'Read Only'.
Ensure the user 'Everyone' is set to 'No Access.
To check if the issue has been solved, launch Acrobat 8.2 and then Illustrator or InDesign CS or CS 2.
    < end quote
Even after following the instructions still "no love" from Illustrator CS2 or InDesign CS2.  InDesign did no longer show the registration screen, but it didn't continue launching, and Illustrator progressed further along in the start up sequence but also never finished launching.
Then I found another article on the adobe site.  I am just quoting the part performed  and which ultimately did the trick.
    >start quote from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/326/326388.html
Steps 1 and 2 are not relevant so no need to do them
    3. At the Finder, choose File > Find.
    4. TypeAdobeFnt10.lst (Illustrator CS2), select the system drive, and then press Return.
    5. Delete all AdobeFnt10.lst files found.
    6. Restart the computer.
    7. Restart Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new Adobefnt10.lst or AdobeFnt07.lst file.
    < end quote
So, this solved the problems at least for the time being.  Hope this helps someone else a bit.

Illustrator CS2 stopped working for me on Snow Leopard as well. What it all boiled down to was not to update to 12.0.1. Not sure which release of Snow Leopard I was on when I figured that out but I keep up-to-date, am now at 10.6.6 and CS2 still works fine. I keep getting prompted to update to 12.0.1 from time to time but just cancel it.
I'm fairly sure I was at 12.0.1 already when I moved from Leopard to Snow Leopard and it was that, not a Snow Leopard update, that "broke" CS2 12.0.1. If I remember correctly, if you now try to apply the update, it won't go through with it anyway.

I was able to install CS2 on the Virtual XP Machine on my Windows 7 computer, but I cannot register or activate it. Adobe no longer supports activation. Is there a way I can keep using CS2? I need to get files back and forth to my coauthor. I also have CS6. I understand that files can go form 2 to 6, but not backwards. Thanks Robert

  • Can I export solid objects into Illustrator / InDesign CS2 and maintain vector format

Can Adobe 3D export solid objects in vector format into Illustrator or InDesign CS2 suite?
I'm interested in taking solid 3D objects developed in Pro/E 2.0 and import from Adobe 3D into Adobe Illustrator & InDesign in vector format for page layout. I want to import solid objects in vector format and maintain color scheme and surface textures.
I'm running 3D trial version and can successfully import 3D objects (asm & prt files) solid views from Pro/E but can only export wireframe views from Adobe 3D Toolkit into Illustrator or InDesign (CS2). Solid objects first have to get rendered in a raster format before importing into Illustrator.
If this function is not supported does anyone have experience doing this using Quadraspace or Right Hemisphere 3D software?

Any help???? After 2 weeks I still can't learn from Adobe or Right Hemisphere people how to import solid objects in vector format into Illustrator with color and surface textures in place. All imported objects in vector format are converted to a wireframe or line format unless they are first rasterized.

  • XML in InDesign CS2 and Visual Studio 2005

    Hello!
A year ago I made a plug in to InDesign CS1 with the purpose of importing an XML file and create a lay outed table of its contents. The reason I choose to make a plug in was because I didn't find InDesign very dynamic in its XML support.
Now I'm being asked to do a similar but more complex solution for InDesign CS2, which I never used before, and I understand a lot has happened since CS1.
How is the XML support in CS2 now a days?
And by the way, is there any problems with Visual Studio 2005 and the InDesign SDK that you know of?

I'm sorry, I posted this thread in the wrong area. I will repost in the InDesign SDK area. My bad.

  • Leopard, InDesign CS2, and Xerox Phaser 6120 Broken

I just updated to Leopard andexcept for a few minor burps, most everything is working except printing from InDesign CS2. When I try to print to my Xerox Phaser 6120, in the printer queue window I get the error:

If I look in the CUPS logs, I see this:

It looks to me like xc6120pstops is crashing and dumping core. Or maybe the issue is with pictwpstops . If I switch over to the "Generic" PostScript printer everything works just fine (but I loose duplexing). And no problems printing from other applications, at least yet.
Has anyone else seen a similar problem?

I seem to be having the same problem with my Xerox Phaser 6120 although it is not application specific. xc6120pstops crashes even if I just print a test page. Generic postscript printer works fine. I've managed to set the printer default to use the duplexer via the web interface, but I'd still rather have full access to the driver.
The Crashreporter log (which oddly reports that xc6120pstops is PPC even though it should be Intel) indeed shows a crash, but I don't know how to interpret any of the detailed information:

  • Exporting a inDesign CS2 File to Illustrator CS2 and Preserving LInks

    Hi,
I have 3 InDesign CS2 files that have several links which have been modified withing the file. The printer needs these files in Illustrator format with the links preserved, so they can swap images, adjust colors and such.
I am having a problem exporting these files to Illustrator CS2 while preserving the links.
I have tried exporting as hirez PDF/X-1a as well as a EPS. They both embedd all the files. When I go to relink everything the images come in as their original form as expected and I find I have to reformat every image which is very time consuming.
I don't want to spend hours trying to relink everything for each package, so I was wondering if there was a way I would be able to export them while preserving all my images as links to Illustrator. Is that even possible? Is there an option in CS3 perhaps? I am willing to upgrade if necessary.
    Please Help!

My boss is in charge of talking to the client and the printer. I am the designer asked to post this question to see if there was another way besides spending hours adjusting these files. I believe he is going to try and convince him otherwise looks like I will be relinking and adjusting for a while to give them what they want.

  • I have InDesign CS2 and CS Premium.  Will all of my CS programs update to CS5.5?

I have CS Premium and an upgrade to InDesign(CS2).    I know that CS Premium alone will not be eligible for the upgrade but since I have InDesign CS2 I'm assuming I'm eligible.  My question might sound silly but will my CS programs update as well?  For example, Photoshop CS, Illustrator CS, and so forth will they update to CS5.5 since I have InDesign CS2?

You are eligible for an upsell, not an upgrade. Here's an Amazon link: http://amzn.to/r5ArLl
And yes, you'll get the full suite of products but not all are at 5.5. Some are still at 5.1.

@s_ashok – you'll find the right methods and properties in the CHM file for InDesign CS2 at:
    http://www.jongware.com/idjshelp.html
    Just a few hints:
InDesign CS2 does not support GREP search/replace, so every line in your code that points to GREP does not work.
Further: "app.findTextPreferences" and "app.changeTextPreferences" were "app.findPreferences" and "app.changePreferences" in InDesign CS2. And then there were no "findChangeTextOptions" or any counterpart for that in CS2…
    That should get you running…
I have no InDesign CS2 installed to debug, so this is all I can say…

  • Why does InDesign CS2 on Windows 7 ask to Validate and Register on ech startup?

I have Just moved to a new computer with Windows 7 Ultimate.
After Installing InDesign CS2, the program requests Validation and Registration on each startup.
Sometimes a Dialog Box with a title DLL pops up dayin a program with an incorrect format was being attempted.
The program seems to work OK, althought I haven't tried every feature, so these may just be annoyances rather than real problems.
However, as asoftware developer for fifty-two years, I'm suspicious that there's more to it than that.
I downloaded and installed the 4.0.5 Update for Indesign CS2, but nothing seemed to change.

You would be surprised how much software was being developed in 1959!
Although there was less computer power in most corporate mainframe computers than you have in today's digital wristwatches, the fact is that quite a bit of scientific, mathematical, and engineering software was being developed typically in FORTRAN and commercial data processing was beginning to be developed in COBOL.
In 1959 it was still 9 years before I wrote my first software.
