InDesign CS2 crashes on boot (Vista)

Hi there
I have just installed InDesign on this machine, and as soon as it tries to initialize, I get "Adobe InDesign CS2 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
When I try and start ID again, it searches for a solution, and then loops back to the same error message.
Can anyone offer a solution?
Thanks in advance

Hi there
I had already set that up, and it had no effect, but Ive just gone back into the properties, and disabled visual effects. InDesign launched with this error:
the installer seems to have written the wrong AUM Application ID
But then seemed to run fine... Ill test it with a couple of jobs, and hope for the best.
Thanks for your help

  • Indesign CS2 Crashes when I try to export a document as pdf

I'm using Indesign CS2 on a G5 using OS X version 10.4.11. As i try to export my document indesign completely crashes after I click the 'export' button in the pdf options window. I've tried saving using different pdf options and different document types but it still happens?

Does your document contain any EPS files..? If so try re-saving them. InDesign can work with native photoshop & illustrator files.
Failing that check your fonts as there may be a corrupt one lurking about...

  • Indesign CS2 Crashing with Tiger Server

I have two different companies dealing with exactly the same problem as such:
G5 Xserve (OS X Server 10.4.7) Indesign CS2. While working on files from the server, tools such as gradient, transparency, etc will consistently cause Indesign to Quit. If we drag the file over to the local desktop to work on it, it's fine. This problem just started cropping up with one machine at company "A" about a month ago. It has now affected more than one machine at company "A" and also just appeared today at company "B". Any solutions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

However, they clearly expect you to be using VersionCue

  • InDesign CS2 crashes or locks up with Leopard

    Hi,
I wonder if anyone is also having this problem. I thought I'd upgrade to the new Leopard OSX 10.5 but I still have CS2 Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator. I'm having crashes in InDesign when placing any art or making pdf's from within the program. I'm using both the pull down menu and shortcuts but now it keeps crashing. I can't work this way. I went onto the Adobe site and it said there are no fixes!!! So are there any...? Will I have to reload the old systen back on or bite the bullet and buy new CS3!!!
    Help?
    Jana

Unfortunately, most of the threads here fail to offer a solution and simply berate the user for upgrading their OS. Whether right or wrong, the Apple bashing does nothing to solve the problem. I have upgraded to OS X 10.5 and still use CS2. I see no point in upgrading to CS 3, since from the threads here it seems even that is not compatible.
Using CS2 and 10.5, I have found a workaround for the file selector box crash. This works on both my systems (a G5 desktop and a G4 laptop). Hope this can help someone.
    Workaround steps:
    - Launch InDesign
    - Select "Open" from the file menu
    - Open an InDesign file (any file)
    - Close or use the file (doesn't matter)
After doing the above in the order described, I can use ID2 as usual. Double-click a file to open it, import graphics, export pages, "save as", etc. The trick for me is to open a file through the "open" command in the file menu immediately after launching ID.
This works for me every time. If I launch ID by double-clicking a doc, ID will always crash. The crash causes more crashes because of auto-recovery. When you re-launch ID and the recovered file opens, that will trigger the crash again when accessing the file selector. If you are working on a file and ID crashes, re-launch. The recovered doc(s) will open. Hit cmd-S to save (Save without the file selector box). Then close the file and quit ID. Start over as above to avoid future crashes.
Hope this helps someone. I have had ID running without a crash for weeks at a time using this method.

  • InDesign CS2 not exporting PDF (Vista)

I just got a new desktop computer at work with Windows Vista Business. Unfortunately there was not budget for the CS4 upgrade, so after reinstalling the Adobe Creative Suite 2 and copying over all my preferences and pdf job files, I thought I was all set to go. I loaded all my pdf .joboption files, locating the temp folder I copied them into and loading through InDesign (File | Adobe PDF Presets | Load), and then proceeded to try to export a PDF. Nothing happened. I know there is nothing wrong with my .joboption files because I've used them at work and used them at home (both WinXP systems) up until the very last day that I got my new computer setup.
I was able to export a PDF using the default .joboptions that came with InDesign. So, I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm guessing it's something to do with Vista, perhaps the location or a file setting or something. Has anyone run into this and how do I fix it? This is impacting my work and it is highly critical that I fix it,  ASAP. Please help.
    thanks,
    Kathleen

Unfortunately I am well aware that CS2 is not supported on Vista and that I am flying in the dark here. So far as day 1 goes, I am not experiencing any issues with InDesign, Photoshop, or Illustrator yet, with the exception of the PDF export issues. I have a couple ideas about that though, so hopefully I get it resolved soon.

  • InDesign CS2 crashing, "cannot open file"

I am suddenly often getting this message: "Cannot open the file. Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application"
The program then crashes, or (when it doesn't) opens and refuses to import Photoshop files, and THEN crashes. In both cases I lose the file.
Will upgrading to CS3 solve these problems or exacerbate them?? Is there a way to correct the problem without upgrading?
    I'm running Mac OSX 10.4.11 on a 2.1 GHz PowerPC G5.

I missed Janet's file It ended up in my spam folder. Sorry Janet.
The file will not open for me in CS2 or CS3 same message. Were you using any filter or plugin that you may have disabled? I think the file is corrupt. some company was looking for corrupt files I forget who. I would send it to them.
in addition the HartmanCover-ad.tif will not open either. I get a "Could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered.
this is most likely your problem.

  • InDesign CS2 crashing on iMac

I bought a new (refurbished) 2010 iMac (3.2GHz Intel Core i3) and loaded my old CS2 on it and InDesign crashes every time I try to print or make a PDF. Any way around this other than upgrading to CS5? Thanks

Before you do...if you're using a suite you must upgrade the entire suite.
Additionally, there are several options for upgrading and you must buy the CS2/CS3 to CS5 upgrade: http://amzn.to/dNS154

  • Chronic InDesign CS2 crashes

I have suddenly started experiencing chronic InDesign crashes. I am running version 4.0.4 on Mac OS 10.4.8 on a PowerMac Dual G5 3.5 GB of RAM. Checking my fonts and deactivating them, deleting preferences, a complete InDesign reinstall, recreation of a couple of my major documents from scratch and exporting the documents to .inx format and re-opening is still resulting in crashes. • Using InDesign CS2 on OS 10.6

We bought some new Macs running on OS 10.6. Unfortunately, our editorial system is still using InDesign CS2. And when we print, Indesign CS2 crashes. This has happened in all the Macs running on 10.6.
Has anyone experienced this and solved it? We do have InDesign CS4 but it's a hassle opening the CS2 page just to print it.

Has anyone experienced this and solved it? We do have InDesign CS4 but it's a hassle opening the CS2 page just to print it.
If you're going to stick with an editorial platform that only runs well on PowerPC architecture with old versions of the OS, you are buying into the idea of keeping old hardware running until such time as you upgrade or abandon the editorial platform. There are ways to buy obsolete Mac hardware - I suggest you spend some time on lowendmac.com and start developing your old-hardware-maintenance plan.
You might be able to find a better workaround (can you export PDFs and print those?) but no matter what you do, you will be duct-taping something together. Ever since 10.6 came out, we've been seeing these threads on a regular basis, and never once has anyone posted a fix that was not made out of duct tape.

  • Help!  How do I get into my InDesign CS2 files?

The other day I tried to open my InDesign files and I got an error message that said "Adobe InDesign is shutting down.  A serious error was detected.  Please restart InDesign to recover any unsaved InDesign documents."
It happens each time I try an open the program.  I press the "ok" button and the program closes but nothing changes.  I've even restarted my computer several times.
Can someone help me?  In Design is holding my files hostage!
I called customer service and they can not give me any technical assistance because I have CS2 and the current version is CS4.  I was told that the forum is my only hope.
    Any help is appreciated.

I've saved the file before by opening it on a different computer and exporting to .inx, but I've no idea what was going on withthe files. It's something that hasn't happened to me since CS2 (fingers crossed), but it usually involved cleaning out the libraries

I keep two old computers around - an XP machine and a G4 running OS 9 - in order to clean up old PM docs before trying to convert to ID. In fact, I'm looking at a project where I'll have to convert about 3000 files from PM to ID, and there's no chance at all that none of those 3000 files will require pre-conversion cleanup in PM.
Are you sure that it's a PageMaker file?
Are you sure that it's a PM6.5 or PM7 file?
Do you still have PM installed? Do the files work in PM?
Do they have embedded images? (That's one of the many reasons why my 3000 files require extensive cleanup.)

  • After crash, users cannot use MS Office or InDesign CS2

    Hi,
Our server had a couple of kernel panics last night. Once I got it back up and running, our 10 client computers could not access their user databases for Entourage, MS Word would not open, and Adobe InDesign CS2 would not work.
All the clients were running when the server went down and I'm assuming the user folders got corrupted somehow since most of them were running these apps at the time.
I've tried everything short of re-installing the software. Would this fix the problem? The MS apps are generally giving me an error code -5000 along with a dameon error, and that Entourage cannot access the user database. InDesign just reports a serious error and that it is shutting down. The error report has too many lines of code for me to decipher.
Our server is a G4 DP 1.25 w/ 2GB of RAM, 500GB mirrrored RAID drive setup running OSX Tiger Server 10.4.9. The user's home folders are stored on the server... no user information is kept on the client machines.
Any suggestions today (Sunday) would be greatly appreciated. We've got a newspaper to put out in the morning and I've been up all night already. It is going to be a long day...

Okay... got it figured out. It was actually pretty simple. I had never completely shut down the whole system at one time after the crash. Router, server, switches and clients... all together at one time (I had rebooted the server and clients separately though)...
So, after bringing everything down, then back online one by one, things started to work again. Lesson learned.
There were a few settings on the server that needed to be reset (DNS... POP in Mail services), but for the most part, things just worked once back online.
    Thanks for chipping in.
    Cheers,
    Alan

  • Opening CS2 files in InDesign CS3 - crashing

    Hi,
I'm just wondering if anyone knows why InDesign CS2 files might crash InDesign CS3 when you try to open them (on Mac OS10.4.11)? The files still crash CS3 even when all the elements have been deleted from the file - all the text, pics, swatches, para and char styles, layers. If the file is saved as and then try to open it in CS3 it still crashes InDesign.
Very much hoping someone might be able to shed some light....
    Thanks very much,
    Susannah

    Might InDesign CS2 have been using a third-party plug-in?

  • Moving installation of InDesign CS2 to Vista 64-bit computer

I've been running Adobe InDesign CS2 on my Windows XP laptop and yesterday I installed the program, instead, on my desktop computer which is running Vista 64-bit version. It has a much bigger screen, and I'm looking forward to using the computer for my desktop publishing work and reserving my laptop for my teaching work.
When I try to load Adobe PDF presets, so that I can send a pdf to a client, I get mysterious messages about their not being accessible to me. The preset files are in the preset settings folder, under All Users. That folder is grayed out in File Explorer but permissions are set so that EVERYONE can use it.
I disabled Windows User Accounts and Firewall.
InDesign can't see the preset files; if  I scroll up from the folder the program begins to look for them (the folder with the document I have open), and get to Users, All Users does not appear at all.
I'm at a loss of what to do. Any ideas, anyone?

You are in completely unsupported territory. While some users have been successful, no CS2 software is Vista certified or supported in a 64 bit environment. This is especially true for all versions of Acrobat prior to 8.1.
I strongly suggest upgrading to CS4.
