InDesign CS2 on Windows 7 issues

I am trying to export to a pdf file and it is giving me an error message saying it has failed to export.  I have been using CS2 on Windows 7 for over a year and this is the first time it has not allowed me to export.  Any suggestions?

Before you give up, though, it might be the document, not CS2. See Adobe Community: File Crashing on Output - printing/PDF/other for some tips on how to troubleshoot.

  • Why does InDesign CS2 on Windows 7 ask to Validate and Register on ech startup?

I have Just moved to a new computer with Windows 7 Ultimate.
After Installing InDesign CS2, the program requests Validation and Registration on each startup.
Sometimes a Dialog Box with a title DLL pops up dayin a program with an incorrect format was being attempted.
The program seems to work OK, althought I haven't tried every feature, so these may just be annoyances rather than real problems.
However, as asoftware developer for fifty-two years, I'm suspicious that there's more to it than that.
I downloaded and installed the 4.0.5 Update for Indesign CS2, but nothing seemed to change.

You would be surprised how much software was being developed in 1959!
Although there was less computer power in most corporate mainframe computers than you have in today's digital wristwatches, the fact is that quite a bit of scientific, mathematical, and engineering software was being developed typically in FORTRAN and commercial data processing was beginning to be developed in COBOL.
In 1959 it was still 9 years before I wrote my first software.

  • Import von PageMaker-Dateien in InDesign CS2

    Hallo, Experten,

    Viele Grüße aus Berlin.

  • Font issue in Indesign CS2

Hi. I just received a new computer and although I have not had any issues with the Palatino Adobe font in the past, for some reason it no longer displays properly (pinked out).  I have uninstalled the font through Adobe Type manager, checked my PS Font folder to make sure there are no Palatino fonts (either True Type, Open Type or Adobe) left in that folder and then reinstalled the font. I then rebooted my computer and although I went through these steps and the only Palatino font on my computer now is an Adobe one, In Design still cannot read the font. I then opened up MS Word, Photoshop, and Illustrator to see if I could access the Palatino font, and I had no issues at all. It seems it's only the In Design program that has an issue reading the font.
Any suggestions at all would be most welcomed because this is the main font that our company uses and my job depends on it.
    Thanks,
    Colourss

I had similar issue with Helvetica Medium and Bold fonts. All other variants of Helvetica were displayed nicely in Indesign CS2, but those two were missing. Indesign CS3 was able to display all the fonts correctly. I tried deleting the AdobeFntXX.lst files and uninstalling fonts, copying into different directories, but nothing helped with CS2. Finally I started tweaking the AdobeFntXX.lst file under Fonts folder in the Indesign CS2 installation directoty and got the Medium and Bold fonts working.
    Here's what I did:
    1. Removed problematic fonts from ATM and Windows fonts folder
    2. Copied fonts into Fonts folder under CS2 installation directory
    3. Deleted AdobeFntXX.lst file under Fonts directory
    4. Started InDesign CS2, so new AdobeFntXX.lst file were generated
    5. Edited the AdobeFntlstXX.lst file as follows:
For Helvetica bold font I replaced dash in the font name with whitespace:
    FontName:Helvetica-Bold   ->   FontName:Helvetica Bold
For Helvetica Medium font I added text "Medium" to the font name:
    FontName:Helvetica   ->   FontName:Helvetica Medium
After these changes InDesign CS2 started to display both fonts. I guess it has something to do with font familynames or something like that.
I know this is not exactly same case as yours, but hopefully it can help you to find the resolution.

  • I am trying to finish a book in InDesign CS2 with another person. My old XP computer became unstable and I had to get a Windows 7 computer. I was able to install CS2 on the Virtual XP Machine on my Windows 7 computer, but I cannot register or activate it.

I am trying to finish a book in InDesign CS2 with another person. My old XP computer became unstable and I had to get a Windows 7 computer. I was able to install CS2 on the Virtual XP Machine on my Windows 7 computer, but I cannot register or activate it. Adobe no longer supports activation. Is there a way I can keep using CS2? I need to get files back and forth to my coauthor. I also have CS6. I understand that files can go form 2 to 6, but not backwards. Thanks Robert

you can download a new installer and serial number from Adobe at Adobe - CS2 Downloads

  • Photoshop/Indesign cs2 install issues

Ok I just got my first Mac. The PC is six years old and slowly falling apart so I said why not spice it up a bit and get a Mac. Anyways...
I downloaded the trials of photoshop and indesign cs2 from Adobe. The installer starts and then starts to install, but it just quits after about ten seconds and says "please try installing again" both the photoshop and indesign (and i assume every other adobe install application) do this.
I read about the Version Cue issues, but that is not installed and that isn't an option in a custom install anyway.
This is kind of the reason I got the thing. Is a universal version coming out anytime soon?
Macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

A new UB version of Photoshop is expected @ spring 2007, since Photoshop is part of the Creative Suite, as is InDesign, I'd imagine Adobe will launch a UB Creative Suite around the same time, but when exactly in 2007, only Adobe can say.
Photoshop CS & CS2 installed without issue on my MBP, have to admit, I bought them on disc and didn't try the trial version - Problem could be the Adobe installer won't work properly under Rosetta on an IntelMac

  • InDesign CS2 printing issue with 10.6

I've just got my ir C2880 printing thanks to help on another thread but...
Printing from InDesign CS2 to this printer I am getting an error message:
Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem.
    Any hints?

As others have stated - This is a problem with 10.6.5 overwriting boot.efi (Which PGP modified in 10.0.0 and above with pgpboot.efi).
This is a fairly easy fix, and was provided in the PDF cited above. For those that don't want to wait, here are the instructions provided:
*1. Insert your Mac OS X CD.*
*2. Boot to your Mac OS X CD.*
*3. Do not install Mac OS X; instead, from the Utility Menu, select "Terminal."*
    *4. Type the following command: +diskutil list+*
You will need to note the disk identifier for the boot partition for your system disk. The boot partition is named "Boot OSX" and is the partition immediately following your system disk. For example, if your system disk is disk0s2, you should find a boot partition with the name "Boot OSX" with the identifier disk0s3.
*5. Type the following command: +diskutil mount <bootpartition>+*
*Where <bootpartition> is the disk identifier you learned from issuing the previous command. This will mount the boot partition for your system disk.*
    Example:
    Diskutil mount disk0s3
Note: You may need to take note of certain disk information during this
process, so PGP Corporation recommends having writing materials available
    to you before you begin.
*6. Navigate to the CoreServices boot directory. This directory is located at the following path: +cd "/Volumes/Boot OSX/System/Library/CoreServices"+*
*7. Copy pgpboot.efi to boot.efi. To do this, type the following command:*
    *+cp pgpboot.efi boot.efi+*
*8. Select Terminal > Quit Terminal.*
*9. Select Installer > Quit and choose to restart.*
You should now see the PGP passphrase prompt and if you successfully enter your passphrase, your system will boot correctly.

  • Suddenly getting "Missing Plug-Ins" errors when opening .indd files in InDesign CS2

I have a PC running Windows 7 and InDesign CS2. The laptop's installation of Windows was corrupted and I had to re-install the OS. I backed up all files, reinstalled the OS, and then reinstalled applications. One of those applications was InDesign CS2. However, after the installation of CS2 on the fresh copy of Windows, I noticed that I have trouble opening most, but not all, of the InDesign files on my hard drive.
When I try to open a .indd file I see an error message pop up that says "Missing Plug-ins. LILO.APLN, DYNAMICDOCUMENTS.RPLN, CONDITIONALTEXT.RPLN" and three more. Under that list of missing plugins is the warning "This document uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?"  If I click "okay" I then am met with another dialog box that says "Cannot open file. TEXT.RPLN, LAYER.RPLN" and on and on for about 60 more items.
I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING! I've searched around concerning this issue and it appears the consensus is that the file was opened by a newer version of InDesign. That possibility is, in fact, an impossibility. Never have I used a newer version of InDesign. The files that I am working on were backed up, stored on local storage and not touched once before reinstalling the OS and reinstalling InDesign CS2.
I also noticed that not all InDesign file formats were associated with InDesign in "Windows Programs and Defaults." I changed those to look to InDesign. I've also uninstalled InDesign CS2 and re-installed.
Not all InDesign CS2 files are exhibiting this behavior. So far, it appears more than half are, but some can be opened with no problems. There seems to be no correlation between which ones are able to be opened and which ones can't be opened.
What could have happened to these files and is there any possibility of opened them again? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Conditional Text was a new feature in CS4. I'm thinking, can you explain how your old CS2 documents became aware of it?
    Not exactly sure myself. Abiogenesis?
    [Edit]
Almost forgot. I wrote a script to unequivocally determine the InDesign version a document was last saved as:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4071273
I'll give that a try today. Even an affirmative judgement that the files are newer than CS2 would not impress me however. The fact remains, the files were copied off one hard drive over to another, the plug was pulled on the hard drive, the PC was re-imaged, CS2 was reinstalled, the files were copied back over... and whammo.

  • InDesign CS2 - Can't print with Page Information Selected..

I am unable to print in InDesign CS2 with the "Page Information" turned on in the "Marks and Bleed" section of the print dialog window. InDesign will do what it normally does when it prints. It goes through each of it's stages and the file reaches the printer. When the printer is getting the information from the Mac it all of the sudden stops. I have run several tests to narrow it down. It is for sure that exact problem and not fonts or images or color profile problems. Is it possible for the font that is used in the page information to be corrupt or missing? Please help. Thank You in advance!

I've got the same problem with CS3. I have to turn off Page Information to print to an HP5500PS plotter but same file prints okay to a Canon Color Printer with a Fiery RIP 800.
I too, think it's a font issue but I can't figure out the exact problem.

  • Leopard, InDesign CS2, and Xerox Phaser 6120 Broken

It looks to me like xc6120pstops is crashing and dumping core. Or maybe the issue is with pictwpstops . If I switch over to the "Generic" PostScript printer everything works just fine (but I loose duplexing). And no problems printing from other applications, at least yet.
Has anyone else seen a similar problem?

I seem to be having the same problem with my Xerox Phaser 6120 although it is not application specific. xc6120pstops crashes even if I just print a test page. Generic postscript printer works fine. I've managed to set the printer default to use the duplexer via the web interface, but I'd still rather have full access to the driver.
The Crashreporter log (which oddly reports that xc6120pstops is PPC even though it should be Intel) indeed shows a crash, but I don't know how to interpret any of the detailed information:

  • InDesign CS2 files not creating .idlk lock file

We are currently experiencing a random issue where sometimes InDesign files that have been opened and saved say they are Read Only and have to be dumped out to the desktop and replaced on the server in order to update the changes.  I have noticed that when this crops up that for some reason the .idlk lock file is not being created in these instances.  It doesn't seem to matter if it is a Leopard or Tiger user, nor anything with time of day, etc.  We are using InDesign CS2 in conjunction with InCopy CS2 on a Windows Server with ExtremeZ-IP for AFP services to the Mac users.  As far as I can tell, the time between the clients and server is in synch as well.  Permissions are a non-issue as the user has full-control to the server and subsequent folders.  Any thoughts or ideas?
    Thanks,
    Brian

Probably the only way to do this is by disabling the app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel lines. InDesign then shows any error dialogs, so you may be in for some OK clicking, but I don't see any other way.

  • How can I activate Indesign CS2 Dutch?

I contacted the helpdesk and they gave me a link to a workaround. On that page I can choose English version, when I select this I see a link to Indesign CS2 among others. But I need the Dutch (Nederlands) version; when I choose Dutch, I can only download the workaround for Acrobat Pro 7.0 or Standard 7.0, there is also a (broken) link to Acrobat Pro 8.0. And no link at all to Indesign CS 2. Helpdesk says they can't help me, but my original version can't be activated anymore and I don't get an alternative?! So I can only use my official licence for 30 days (new policy since dec 13th) what can I do?

  • Need to default file association to Indesign CS2

    Hello,
I am using a PC/XP sp2, and i have both adobe cs1, cs2, and cs3 installed sequentially. I need to default all .indd files to open with Indesign CS2 instead of cs3 from the window explorer. However, that's not happening at all. I have tried to google the solution, and also a few available methods online, but none of them is working.
    > open file as (not working - not even recognizing the cs2 at all)
    > file association preference inside bridge cs2/cs3 (nothing happend)
    > file properties (file association refuse to work)
The only ways that I can get a .indd file to open is to (1) open the document from within cs2, or (2) open the file from bridge. Sure, it works, but it's a pain. Please let me know if yall have any idea how to resolve this? or is this the kind of issue i need to live with?
    Thanks.

    > However, you can try to force Windows to open with another program > by right-clicking any ID document (though it better be a CS2 one), > then select "Choose program". Browse to the CS2 location and check > the "Always open with" box. That oughta work.
Yeah, I have attempted that too. And we're practically talking about the same thing. The 'open file as' is a window command when right-click on the file (in this case, the .indd). I have tried that route already, but window doesn't recognize the executable and the "Always open with" checkbox is also gray out. I have already reset the default software for psd and ai to cs2, and only the indd is not responsive at all.
And the even weirder thing is that this only happens on some computer. for instance, i have run the same installation procedure on another pc/xp sp2 computer, and everything works fine. Both computers have the same os, same hardware, and same adobe cs3 software (w/ different serial key)
    > registry hack
hmm... that's an idea. Do yall know anything about it? Please do keep me (and anybody plagued with this issue) posted.
    thanks.

  • Lost Indesign CS2 fonts

Recently I had to have my hard drive cleaned due to a virus. When I re-installed Indesign CS2, many of the fonts that I formerly had are now gone. How can I get the lost fonts back? I am sure that the solution is simple, but since I am a beginner, be precise with any suggestions. I have Windows XP.

There is no known issue of incompatibility of Type 1 fonts with CS2 on Windows XP.
You say you "upgraded" your workstation to XP Pro. From what version of Windows did you "upgrade" from? Was that an in-place upgrade or did you totally reformat your system partition and do a "clean install" of Windows XP Pro? Only the latter is recommended, i.e., the "clean install!"
In general, Adobe strongly discourages "in-place" Windows upgrades, especially from Windows'9x to Windows 2000 or XP. The fact you refer to ATM 4.0 leads me to believe you attempted to do an in-place upgrade. Note that ATM 4.0 is
not compatible with Windows XP. That may be a major part of the problem. Furthermore, except for support of Multiple Master fonts, you don't need ATM on Windows XP. Finally, Adobe no longer markets or supports ATM Deluxe, although ATM Lite 4.1.1 is available for support of Multiple Master fonts.
Assuming you did an "in-place" Windows upgrade, our best advice would be to reinstall Windows XP from scratch along with font, applications, etc. on a newly formatted disk partition. That would eliminate many problems that you are likely to experience with an "upgraded" operating system beyond simply loss of support of full and proper operating system support for Type 1 fonts.

  • [CS2 Win] "A buffer overrun has been detected..." on startup of InDesign CS2 Debug

Installed InDesign CS2 Debug on a completely new machine but it failed to launch.
The message occurs while "Executing startup services..."
I get a "Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library" window with the message "A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue and must now be terminated".
My only other installations performed before this were Visual Studio NET 2003 and Adobe InDesign SDK.
I've seen two threads in the forum about this problem and wondered if anyone got the solution.
Especially since someone appears to have opened a support case about this issue.
    The archived threads are:
Buffer Overrun Error In InDesign Debug Version
"A buffer overrun has been detected..." CS2 debug
Hopefully someone can help me with this.
I've now uninstalled and re-installed Indesign, InCopy & the InDesign SDK several times trying to get around this.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    - Jackeen.

    Jackeen,
You probably have corrupted preferences on the "troublesome" user. Each user has his/her own ones - including "lost" files, etc. and they can become corrupted.
A couple days ago I was "fighting" a similarly strange problem - a crash on closing a document - only to have it disappear after the preferences were reset automatically at some point (as seen because palettes, etc. returned to their "default" place.
