InDesign CS2 PDF Export is Screened

This problem just started happening to me last night.  All solids are appearing in PDFs as screened, however when I pull the PDFs I create into Illustrator to check them, they are fine.  Please help!  I usually export as press quality and a preset I made called press quality native color.
Thanks!

It is screened when I print it out thru Preview on my Mac also thru Acrobat Professional.  When I import the PDF into Illustrator and print it out...everythig is solid (correct).  I don't want to go thru the extra hassle of printing thru Acrobat...just want to use export to PDF from InDesign as I was doing prior.
Also, if I open the screened PDF in Illustrator (where it is solid) and re-save as a PDF, it becomes screened again!
Help:(

  • InDesign CS2 not exporting PDF (Vista)

I just got a new desktop computer at work with Windows Vista Business. Unfortunately there was not budget for the CS4 upgrade, so after reinstalling the Adobe Creative Suite 2 and copying over all my preferences and pdf job files, I thought I was all set to go. I loaded all my pdf .joboption files, locating the temp folder I copied them into and loading through InDesign (File | Adobe PDF Presets | Load), and then proceeded to try to export a PDF. Nothing happened. I know there is nothing wrong with my .joboption files because I've used them at work and used them at home (both WinXP systems) up until the very last day that I got my new computer setup.
I was able to export a PDF using the default .joboptions that came with InDesign. So, I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm guessing it's something to do with Vista, perhaps the location or a file setting or something. Has anyone run into this and how do I fix it? This is impacting my work and it is highly critical that I fix it,  ASAP. Please help.
    thanks,
    Kathleen

Unfortunately I am well aware that CS2 is not supported on Vista and that I am flying in the dark here. So far as day 1 goes, I am not experiencing any issues with InDesign, Photoshop, or Illustrator yet, with the exception of the PDF export issues. I have a couple ideas about that though, so hopefully I get it resolved soon.

  • InDesign CS2 background export to pdf

I'm using inDesign CS2 and want to export a file to pdf that has a grid background. I setup the grid in the CS2 preferences, but when I export the file, I don't get the grid background. I have tried a few things with the Adobe PDF presets > Define, but with no luck.
It's a houseplan that shows up fine in the pdf, but with out the background grid.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    John

Although InDesign (any version) PDF export provides for exporting the baseline grid (except for PDF/X export), there is no provision for exporting the document grid. If you want a grid to be output, it would probably make sense to manually create a grid on your master page(s).

  • InDesign to PDF Export Shrinkage

Using InDesign CS2,when I export to PDF the document does not stay the same size, it always shrinks (about 5% or so). So, printing business cards on a template, for instance, doesnt work. Also, colors change to different shades (dark blue to medium blue). This always happened to me in Pagemaker also. WTH?

It's your Acrobat print settings that are doing that. You need to turn
    page scaling off.

  • InDesign CS5 PDF export status

It seems that now with CS5 we no longer receive a pdf export status bar. Export is running in background. When exporting large files, the only way I know it's still working or exporting is the error message when I try and close document... Saying task running in BKG.
In Cs3 and 4 there was a status bar that displayed progress. Is this a preference that can be turned on or off?
Annoying when exporting large files with many pages...
    Any help?
    Thanks

OK, well, here we go. I hope people find it useful -- if so, I'l make an announcement thread so people are more inclined to see it.
You can also download it from here.  See How to Install InDesign Scripts for installation instructions. If you save it in the
Startup Scripts folder, it will run automatically when InDesign is started. Running it a second time disables it.
// exportPop.jsx -- pops up Background Tasks when you start an export

  • CS2 pdf export file naming

When exporting to pdf, the pdf is not given the indesign file name but uses the previously saved name which then has to be manually altered. Can not find in preferences where to change this. Any suggestions?

Every person is entitled to an opinion. Everyone else is entitled to agree or disagree.
In my real world workflow, the ideal would be that the PDF file defaults to the current name of the file... not a name that could have been a one time export, or could have been an export of an older version last month, or last year.
Instead of honoring the current filename, it 'remembers' the first name that the export is changed to if the file is saved after the export. The waste of time comes in when I have to then 'fix' the file for future revisions, or retype the name of the file.
Again, I don't agree with calling it a waste of time to have InDesign behave the way the user desires.
If you want it to call a file by the last export name... great, it happens to work that way if you save after exporting.
If you happen to want it to use the filename as the export name, well, then you have to either not save after any export, or waste your time fixing what is broken (my opinion).
Perhaps an option or preference is warranted?
    "use indesign filename when exporting"
"use last export name when exporting"

  • Indesign CS2 jpeg Export

    Hello All,
I have just completed some work which consists of a few basic shapes and some text and I would like to Export to a jpeg format. But I have noticed that even with the maximum resolution on export the file dpi is only 72 and bit depth is 24. The file size is A6 but I cannot seem to increase the dpi resolution.
    Can anyone help?

  • Need an extension for indesign cs2 that exports latest version of pdfs

we're using ID CS2, no plans to go to a more recent version.  Currently latest version of pdf that it will export to is pdf 7.  current versions of web browsers don't display properly, i imagine because they're expecting a more recent version pdf.  is there an add-on for CS2 that will generate current pdf version ?

  • Fonts jagged in InDesign and PDF export

I've been troubleshooting this issue for days, with no success. I'm using IDCS6 on a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion, and it probably happens with all fonts, but I've noticed it specifically with "Din mittelschrift" at a large pt. size and 100% magnification. It wouldn't be a terrible thing, since it's not noticeable in most of the document, but I'm trying to create a catalog of sorts (as a series of 2-page spreads) and the brand's name on the cover has the most obnoxiously rough edges - I can't send the PDF off to anyone in this condition.
I'm an experienced computer user but an InDesign novice, so I've been trying various things I've found online that successfully solved others' problems, without having a very clear idea of what many things in ID do. Reading a few Adobe tutorials didn't enable me to fix things, either.
I've seen others post that jagged-looking fonts can clear up when exported to a PDF, but that didn't work. When I export to a PDF, interactive or not, it appears jagged at 100% - though strangely enough, at 300% it looks fine.
I checked my ID display settings. It's jagged even at High Quality - and display settings in InDesign wouldn't affect the PDF, anyway.
I made sure the font was installed in the proper place (Library/Fonts), cleared my font cache, and restarted the computer.
I tried converting the text to outlines in InDesign.
I tried setting the opacity to 99.9%.
I changed the color of the text to a grey (240/240/240) to reduce the contrast in case that was an issue.
The rest of the document appears fine in InDesign and as a PDF. No extreme jagged edges or low-quality appearance.
Right now the document is intended to only be viewed on a screen, but since I'm unsure if I'll ever be asked to prepare it for printing I created it using ID's print layout. I've been avoiding converting it to a web layout because that would mean hours of reformatting, and I figure that fonts should render with smooth edges no matter what the layout is set as.
I think I've done more than what's listed above, but forgotten the specifics.
I'll try anything short of destroying the catalog and starting over.
    Thank you!

Can you take a screenshot of what this looks like and post it?
Also, I've noticed that sometimes weird crap will show up when you view something in Acrobat. Like you can see a line between the font and the stroke, but when you zoom way in, it looks fine. It will print fine as well. Just a display issue. Can you print it? When you print it does it look like crap?

  • InDesign CS4 PDF Export Issue

    Hello everyone,
I'm new to Adobe and this forum so if I screw something up, please let me know.
    My System:
    Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93GHz, 3GB Ram, 7200rmp 320GB HDD, XP Pro SP3
Adobe Master Collection CS4 full installation.
    My Issue:
Intermittenly, as I export an InDesign document to PDF my font gets rendered improperly.  I have included screen shots of both exports below:
Above is the correct way the font I use should look when it's exported (Grotesque MT Std Light).
Below is the other way the font looks when I export it.
You can clearly see that the bottom block of text is darker and more jagged, almost as if there are two layers of the same text.
The problem is I only have one layer of text!
I imagine there must be some checkbox somewhere that I either accidentally check/uncheck with a mistype (I type fast and irratically, so sometimes I hit keys I didn't mean to) or accidental combination of CTRL+.
Has anyone else experienced font-weight issues like I have?
I would appreciate any insight regarding this matter.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Transparency on the page? Looks like the type was perhaps rasterized during transparency flattening.
Rule #1 is to put type at the top of the stack when there is transparency, and it's a good idea not to flatten (export to Acrobat 5 or higher compatibility if possible) if it isn't absolutely necessary. Even if you move the type to the top you are likely to see an "emboldening" effect on screen and low res printing when there is transparency on the page.

  • Indesign 5 - Pdf export - Changing transparency opacity

    Just installed CS5.
Its my first time in Indesign for CS5. I need to make some changes on an Indesign doc I created in CS4 and save to pdf. There is a background image that I have on every page of the doc... its set to opacity of 40%. Every time I try to save for pdf and then open the doc in Acrobat the background image appears to be setback to be 100% opacity. What's going on in 5 that is causing this? It doesn't do this in 4.

I turned on overprint preview in Acrobat settings.
Unfortunately it had no effect on the view.
I think I traced the problem though.
The background image was created from a logo created in Illustrator.
I went back and re-copied the logo art from the same illustrator file, the exact same grouped set of vector art I orginally used, it still displayed the same problem in ID5 when exported.
Then I copied a different vector logo from that illustrator file into ID5. It worked fine, saved to pdf and worked fine in Acrobat. I think there was something corrupt or weird with that specific vector grouping that ID5 did not like. So, I isolated the problem, but now I have to potentially change a bunch of files I made. Argggh.
    Thanks for you help.

  • Acrobat DC breaks InDesign CS6 PDF export?

With Acrobat DC installed it seems as if I can no longer export a PDF out of InDesign CS6. The export function under the menu is greyed out. It works fine with InDesign CC 2014 but not with CS6. I still have customers that require me to use CS6. Anybody else have this issue?

They SHOULD not be connected. InDesogn export doesn't use Acrobat, and doesn't need it.  I suspect a different problem. I don't know what but I have seen mentions of it in the InDesign forum.

  • InDesign CS2 PDF presets not loading

I have none of the predefined joboptions for PDF listed and cannot load them - I get an error message "Cannot import presets from this file". The joboptions are all correctly in the Library/application support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings folder. Also it will not even allow me to create a new file - it says "Cannot create the file. The folder may be write protected". I have gone through and made sure all folders are unlocked etc.
What is happening? Anybody else had this happen?

I have just discovered what was wrong. I have CS2 but also Acrobat Professional 8. I have just found a forum called InDesignSecrets.com and there I found that in CS2 the folder the joboptions are kept in is in a slightly different place - see below:
"Finally, where are PDF preset files saved? I left the technicalities of this until the end because most of you wont know or care (you dont need to know this location to use PDF presets in InDesign). However, for the techies among us, here is where PDF presets (both the default and customized settings) reside in Adobe Creative Suite 2 and Distiller 7:
Macintosh: Library > Application Support > Adobe PDF > Settings
Windows: Documents and Settings > All Users > Shared Documents > Adobe PDF > Settings
One other technical note is that this location has changed for Acrobat 8 Professional (and presumably Adobe Creative Suite 3). The file format for the .joboptions file hasnt changed, however. The default settings are stored in these locations:
Macintosh: Library > Application Support > Adobe > Adobe PDF > Settings
Windows: Documents and Settings > All Users > Application Data > Adobe > Adobe PDF > Settings"
Note that for CS2 the Adobe PDF is in the Application Support folder not in the Adobe folder in the Application Support folder. So I just copied the Adobe PDF folder and dropped it straight into the Application Support folder leaving the original where it was (as I need it there for Acrobat 8). I then restarted InDesign and hey presto the preset job options came in automatically - hooray!
