InDesign CS3 and monitor flicker

I have already read this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/326464 and that did not come up with any useful pointers.
I have seen a problem occur on a couple of designers Macs (OS 10.4.11, InDesign 5.0.4) where the monitor seams to flicker slightly whenever they are using InDesign. I have launched the other CS Suite applications and swapped betweent them but the problem only ever occurs when InDesign is the active application.
More specically, the flickering only effects any windows (or usually just the desktop image/colour) that are behind InDesign.

The drivers are built into the actual OS so driver updates usually install as part of the OS updates. There were no more updaes to 10.4 after 10.4.11, before Apple moved on to 10.5 so that is not an option.
Thank you for your answer though.

  • Why is Merge into single pdf using InDesign CS3 and not CS4 ?

I'm new to this so the question may be trivial, but it beats me:
I've created some InDesign files in CS4 and want to combine them into one PDF. So I opened Acrobat 9 Pro and
navigated to "Merge files into single pdf". I chose the CS4 InDesign files to Add and clicked the Combine Files button.
BUT, this starts up InDesign CS3 and not InDesign CS4 and returns a pop-up saying "unidentified error".
Why is starting CS3 InDesign and not CS4, and what is the "unidentified" error ! ?
As background I intially installed CS3 and then updated to CS4, leaving the CS3 applications intact. When I initially
bought CS3, just before CS4 was released I may have created pdfs from InDesign as an experiment, but it is possible I have not done this
    since upgrading to CS4.
    Thanks for any help

Thanks Michael, I was not aware of quality issues. Actually this is not really significant for my usage this time. What I'm doing is just using ID to capture notes/images/links etc in several free format ID documents. I then planned to merge them quickly into one pdf using Acrobat. I can easily shuffle the file order around to create a handy portable pdf reference document with the Merge feature.
Doing something similar from ID seemed to me to require me to create pdfs for each ID doc and them to merge them in Acrobat. I did start to write a simple script to do this in ID, but I then realised that I wanted the ordering to vary and the ID files would likely to change. Then I found the merge and bingo, that solved it..... Well it solved it on another CS4 installation that had never seen CS3, but not on my machine which had been upgraded from CS3.
I tried looking in the registry for obvious entries that might point Acrobat to use ID CS3 rather than CS4, but couldn't spot anything. I wonder if there is something buried in there ?
    Thanks again for helping
    Regards.

  • InDesign CS3 and SL - Image Import Issue

This one is fairly simple and there has been some discussion of it on the Adobe boards, but without any solid solution.
Issue: If you are in InDesign CS3 and you are using Command+D to replace an existing image, or you are importing a new image, InDesign will freeze up.
Work Around: Drag and drop the image into the image box directly from Finder.
Notes: I do not like this solution because it takes up more time, but it has been working for me this weekend. I reloaded InDesign CS3 completely and applied all of the updates, but it did not fix the issue.

    Hi, Curtis,
Just got SL today - am planning to put it on a MacBook Pro 17" intel that I share for work. We have C3 and had to replace another laptop recently so few $$$$ for upgrading problems until the economy picks up. We use CS3 and CS2 and a standalone InDesign 2 on three computers and so far use the CS3 for the final output. Here is the problem - if we place an image, it stays out of the ID file - our biggest client is fairly image heavy and they LOVE multiple minute revisions, so we don't want to have a bizillion copies of a developing doc with the extra heft of the actual images - esp when they want a lot of fine tuning on the images- by dragging and dropping don't you get an imbedded image? Did you find another solution since you first posted? Thanks

  • InDesign CS3 and Fluorescent Spot Colours

I am having a problem with importing Photoshop files into InDesign CS3 and laying them over a fluorescent spot colour.
The PS file is Greyscale with a transparent background, this is being inported into a picture box in InDesign which in turn is sitting on top of a square with a fluorescent spot colour in it. (Pantone 804c). The problem is that the spot colour is being affected by the photoshop box that contains the greyscale image. Outside of the box the spot colour represents normally, but underneath the photoshop box the fluorescent spot is changing colour to a lighter shade. Has anyone seen this and figured out how to fix it. This occurance has happened only through my local printer and has not yet been printed Litho.
    Thanks.

If your Transparency Blend Space is CMYK, make sure you check Use Standard Lab Values for Spots and turn on View>Overprint Preview (or turn on Separations in the Separations Preview panel).
If your output will be offset separations, you'll need to keep the blend space as CMYK in order to keep the grayscale on the black plate (the change in color with Overprint turned off is only a preview problem and will not effect separations). If you are always printing to a composite printer you could also set your blend space to RGB, but in that case the preview won't change and you will not get a correct spot/black separation.

  • Accessible PDFs from InDesign CS3 and Acrobat Pro 8

Is there a good website or book that explains how to create an "accessible" PDF with text and images (no intaractivity or special fields to enter information)? Maybe a book for non-programmers.
I find a lot of general information and it always states that it's the best to do the tagging from the beginning in InDesign but what else does it ivolve? In what order should I do what?
    Thanks.

I'm doing one of the exercises provided by Adobe and have a question (InDesign CS3). I just learned that you can assign the "Artifact" tag to a graphic frame in two ways: Either via "New Attribute" in the Structure window (Articat/TRUE) or by right clicking and "Tag Element > Artifact").
The results are different though. The New-Attribute-way keeps the name "Figure" and adds a Bullet to it saying Artifact=TRUE, while the right-click-option changes it from Figure to Artifact and adds no Bullet.
Is there any difference for the person receiving the PDF and what is the better version (for what)? Thanks a lot!

  • The difference of pdf export from Indesign CS3 and other Indesign version

    Hi,
When I am exporting pdf of an Illustrator eps file from Indesign CS2 or CS4 etc.. i am getting the proper output as its there in illustrator, but when I am loading the same Image in CS3 and exporting pdf its not producing the proper output. Here I have my screen shots.
    Cs3
    other versions
    awaiting your reply
    Thanks in advance
    Biju Mathew.

You have to educate your customer: EPS is an outdated and lossy file type because it does neither support transparency nor color management and should be avoided to be used with InDesign or Photoshop or Illustrator.
I don't understand, why so many insist in using EPS?

  • Both Indesign CS3 and CS6 installed on the same PC?

Is it possible to have two Indesign versions [CS3 and CS6] installed on one desktop PC [running Windows XP]?
I would only use one version at a time. The problem is I’ve been working with [and would like to continue working with] freelancers who still use CS3; but I’ll soon be hiring others who have migrated to CS6.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me on this question.

Thanks for the reply. I’m far from being a sophisticated user of Indesign. I do export .indd files to PDF on occasion. As for  colors, I occasionally use the swatch tool, although I couldn’t tell you the difference between RGB and CYMK. Hopefully I could make adjustments to the CS3 version for any slight changes incurred by installing CS6 on the same PC.

  • Page Setup Issue with InDesign CS3 and Xerox DC240 w/ external Fiery

    Running on OS 10.4.11
Printing to Xerox DC2400 w/ External Fiery (driver v1.1 v3016.102)
    Application InDesign CS3 v. 5.0.2
When I send a document in CS3 to print, I have to constantly go to the page setup and select the proper paper size and orientation in order to print properly. In CS2, I was able to set all this by simply going to the Setup window and designating my paper size and orientation there. Does anyone have the same or similar issue? Were you able to resolve it? All suggestions are welcomed. I have contacted Xerox and they say that this is not an issue with their driver, they say that this is an application level issue!!
    Thank you.

I think I may have figured it out by trial and error. In the Pages palette, there's an option in the pulldown called "Panel Options". I set both sizes to "Small" and turned off "Thumbnails". Seems to have worked - knock wood. Presumably when thumbnails is turned on, InDesign is updating the contents of the document AND the pages palette thumbnail simultaneously. Anyway, that seems to have fixed it. Just wanted to post this solution FYI for anyone else who may be having this problem.

  • Indesign cs3 and windows 8.1

I'm having trouble installing indesign cs3 with Windows 8.1.  The program says I need to upgrade screen resolution.  My lowest screen resolution is the minimum required.  I have the highest.  Any options or ideas for getting past this?

I was able to get it running with Windows 8 (64-bit), but it did take a few tries, and I have not played with all the software yet.  I have used Photoshop and Illustrator successfully, and I've opened InDesign.  I remember having to copy a file off of the installation disk to my desktop and renaming it to "AdobePDF.dll" -- I think it had 64 in the original file name.  During the install, it said it could not find that file, and that trick worked.  (I only remember because that file is still on my desktop.)
My question is: Has anyone who has CS3 running on Windows 8 upgraded to windows 8.1?
My computer keeps asking me, but I don't want to break CS3. I don't use it a whole lot, but when I need it, I want it to work.
    Thank you for any replies!

  • InDesign CS3 and Unicode

From BabelMap (character map application for Windows), I have pasted in InDesign CS3 the 818 characters of OT Adobe Garamond Pro. Something is strange : for exemple the digit nine have the Unicode number U+E097 in the Info Panel but U+0039, in the Glyphs panel. I don't understand why this difference. Someone can explain me ? Thanks

Adobe Garamond Pro has several nines: lining nine, oldstyle figures
nine, superscript nine, subscript nine. If you pasted every glyph, you
should have gotten at least four nines, probably more. Although U+E097
and U+0039 may look the same, U+E097 is an oldstyle figures nine. U+0039
    is a regular lining nine.
    I think.

  • InDesign CS3 and XP SP3

I have been happily running InDesign CS3 v.5.02 on my old XP SP2 machine for many years, but will soon be forced to upgrade to either XP Service Pack 3 or Windows 7.
I'd prefer to go down the SP3 route. Am I going to have compatibility issues?

You are being forced to do neither, but you should certainly update CS3 to 5.0.4.
BTW, Windows 7 is fantastic and leaves XP in the dust.

  • Reinstalling InDesign CS3 and Photoshop CS3 on my Windows 7 Pro machine went well but the registration  via internet failed

Is there a way out? I would want to lose the programmes. They served me alltogether well. The hotlines do no longer support me.

Neerfeld what specific error message do you receive when you open Photoshop or InDesign CS3?

  • InDesign CS3 and OS 10.5.8 Tabloid Print Problem

I recently upgraded my G5 Power PC to OS 10.5 Leopard. Now I am unable to print 11 x 17 documents created in InDesign CS3 without a significant portion of the file beign "cut off" at the header. This also applies to attempts to print the same file, saved as a PDF. 11 x 17 documents created in Ai print fine.
Curiously, the identical InDesign CS3 files print as they should on oversized (Super A3) sheets.

You did an in place upgrade from Tiger to Leopard? Contrary to the propaganda machine in Cupertino this is not a good idea.
Operating system upgrades are best done as clean installs.

  • Indesign CS3 2nd Monitor Issue

    Hi there,
For some reason, recently, I can't get my indesign document to shift over to my 2nd monitor.
I have no problem moving the toolbars and palettes, they appear fine - but when I try and drag the actual document over to the other monitor it simply doesn't appear. It isn't locked as I can move it over to the right, it just won't show on the second monitor.
I'm sure this has not always been the case and it is proving frustrating as I want to have two documents open on seperate monitors.
Is there a preference that I have turned off in indesign?
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Matt
P.s I have attached a screen grab to make this clearer

That's because it can't be done in CS3. The document must remain within the application.
The only way to accomplish this is to stretch the application across both monitors.
This capability does exist in CS4.

  • Working with InDesign CS3 and CS4

I'm a graphic design student and recently bought InDesign CS4 for my home computer, but all the media labs on campus only have CS3. Is there a way I can constantly work on one file, switching from one version to the other? I heard there's a way to save CS4 as a CS3 file, but will a CS3 file open in CS4?

CS4 will open a CS3 file. To go the other way, export from CS4 to INX.
CS3 (if fully patched) will open INX from CS4. Don't use CS4-only
features, and expect to run into some problems with text wrap changing.
