  • Will InDesign CS3 export to PDF on it's own?

I am planning to purchase InDesign CS3 but do not have Adobe Acrobat Pro.  Will I still be able to print or export an InDesign file to pdf without it?  If not can I buy PDF Converter Professional to make this possible?  I am working on a PC.  thank you!

Indesign has it's own PDF generator so you wouldn't need Acrobat to create a simple PDF.
If you want to create fillable forms then you will need Acrobat.
One thing to keep in mind, CS3 is a few versions expired and is not being sold legally anywhere (unless someone is selling their personal copy and hasn't used it to upgrade to a newer version). You'll want to be sure you are getting a ligitimate version.

  • Indesign CS3 - export to PDF and keep RGB colors

I'm trying to export from InDesign to a pfd file that contains the original RGB colors of an imported image. The imported image is RGB and is from Illustrator CS3. I've tried changing the output color options in the export dialogue box but I can't seem to figure out how to make it work so that the original RGB colors are preserved. Can someone please help?

    P. Marlowe, you're correct. Use PDF/X-4 to support live transparency used by the Adobe PDF Print Engine RIPs. PDF/X-4 supports the same color spaces as PDF/X-3 but keeps them device-independent when there is transparency.

  • Export a Indesign(CS3)  Document as PDF(Windows)

    Hi,
I am beginner in Indesign Plugin development.
I want to export a Indesign CS3 document as PDF programmatically. I
know that we need to use IPDFExportPrefs and set the various
    attributes.I dont know proper code.
Can anybody give the code to implement it.
Or any reference to find it.
    Thanks,
    Ravi sharma

    Arthur,
You can't export the document directly to HTML, but you can use the Cross-Media Export to make and XHTML file for Dreamweaver (or other editor). It will generate an HTML page and a blank CSS style sheet, as well as gathering the images, but web and print are entirely different formats so you won't have anything resembling your ID doc when you get through, as far as layout is concerned. If you want people to see your layout as is, you need to use PDF. Try changing the compression settings for the export to bring the size down, but it will be a compromise somewhere most likely.

  • How can I export to PDF for Offset printing including color and grayscale photo's?

After reading dozens of forum, I still don’t found the answer.
I made a photobook with full-colur and B/W photos for Offset printing. I want the B/W to be in grayscale to avoid color possible color shades. It seems InDesign doesn’t support grayscale, the images become way to dark. Even with exporting without any colour conversion or destination and/or including original colour profiles, the grayscale pictures are being exported to dark to PDF.
How can I export to PDF for Offset printing including color and grayscale photo’s?

Yes, the Photoshop & ID CMYK working spaces are the same
This can get difficult because the 3 programs handle soft proofing differently.
The working spaces don't matter, it's the document profile(s) that manage the preview. So here is the same grayscale image placed in ID on top and PS on the bottom. I've set my Photoshop info to show the doc profile in the lower left corner. I can see my InDesign's Document CMYK profile in my Proof Setup (the Working CMYK is different and isn't being used). Both profiles are effectively the same Coated FOGRA39 (Black Ink FOGRA in the case of PS).
But the previews don't match because I have Overprint turned off, so the InDesign preview is Gamma 2.2 or a "screen" media preview.
If I turn on Overprint preview I get a match because I'm soft proofing for print:

  • ID CS3 export to PDF - how to get superscripts into bookmarks ?

I'm exporting my InDesign (CS3 Design Standard) file to PDF, and the headings are all nicely showing up in the bookmarks, but the superscript chars in my headings (such as the trademark symbol) are showing as regular chars in the resulting PDF bookmarks.
Anyone know if it's possible to get superscripts into the PDF bookmarks? Either directly from InDesign's export function or after-the-fact w/Acrobat?
I'm using Acrobat 7.0 Standard on Win XP, but if this is do-able with Professional or a later version, I'm open to upgrading.
(I asked the same question in the InDesign forum, and it was suggested that I ask here in the Acrobat forum.)
    Many thanks,
    -Monique

    >superscript chars [..] (such as the trademark symbol)
There is some dispute over a trademark symbol being superscript or not. In some fonts it is, in others not. Therefore, for some fonts you need to apply "superscript" and in others not.
    >[..] showing as regular chars in the resulting PDF bookmarks
That's the way it is. You cannot apply formatting to bookmark text. You
    i can
change the font (I seem to rembember), but that doesn't help -- it's a global change.
If you desperately positively need some characters to be in superscript, check the character map for (I think) Arial Unicode. There is a tiny set of characters that has a superscript form: ¹²³ -- but do check if they appear the same in Acrobat.

  • InDesign CS6 Export to PDF has missing objects

When exporting to PDF, I have a 6-page document that has missing objects from the master.
Here's the document with the content removed:
    lab.cyke.net/pdf/MissingObjects.pdf
The first and last pages were constructed correctly. All pages in between are screwed up. Any ideas?

@Jongware – I have a case with InDesign CS5.5 7.5.3 on Mac OS X 10.6.8 where master pages based on each other lead to false representation of page objects.
Not only in pdf export, but also on the actual InDesign pages. Made an IDML from it, opened that in InDesign CS4 and the error was gone.
This problem is documented at the German-Swiss forum "HilfDirSelbst" at:
    http://www.hilfdirselbst.ch/gforum/gforum.cgi?post=496285#496285
Some screen grabs together with the IDML are attached there.
After opening the IDML from InDesign CS4 with the error gone, I exported another IDML from CS4, opened that in InDesign CS5.5 7.5.3 and the error was present.
To detect the error look at pages 1* and 4 of the mentioned screen grabs.
    Uwe
//EDIT: *the screen grab of the pages palette of InDesign CS5.5 shows the error on page 4 only. The error is present outside of page 1 as well, but cannot show on the screen grab.

  • Indesign CS6, export interactive pdf missing...

    Hi everybody,
Can anybody tell me the solutions, When i export my interactive document to pdf,
frist 3 pages go well, but after that all pages the text that contains links are missing.
Even i take mouse over to those links it shows the handover, but text appearing and links does not work.
I have tried in cs3 too, but same problem continues. (i am working on In Design CS6)
Can anyone tell me the solutions ?
    Thanks

Make sure you're choosing File > Export > Adobe PDF (Interactive) and NOT  Adobe PDF (Print).
Make sure you're previewing in Adobe Acrobat Pro or Adobe Reader and NOT other PDF readers (like Mac Preview).

  • Indesign links exported to PDF

    Hey,
I am using the latest version of indesign as on 2014. I am confused about how linked images work with exporting a PDF. When I export a pdf without all the links being embedded, do those links still show up in the PDF for someone opening it on another computer? Or do all links need to be embedded to appear in an exported PDF? Thanks so much, any opinions are appreciated.

Links have not to be embedded when you export the file to PDF. If the links are OK in the InDesign file (not missing or modified), the exported PDF will be absolutely fine and viewable on any computer.

  • AI Document having multiple layers to be exported  as PDF, showing each layer content as a single pa

I am currently working on Adobe Illustrator 9.0. In this single document i have made 10 layers(showing each page). Now i want export this document to PDF, in which each layers should come as single page. Like a PDF with 10 pages.
    Is this possible?
As of now, whenever i try n save the file as PDF with one layer active. It creates big PDF showing all the layers content in One single page(Overlapping)
    KD

Hide those layers you do not want in your PDF (click on the 'eye' in the layers palette). If all layers are unhidden, you can alt-click on the eye of one layer in order to hide all the others.
If you do this kind of thing a lot, you should consider a plug-in like
    HotDoor Multipage
or, if content permits, doing the job in a page layout application, such as InDesign.

  • Why does my high res photoshop image appear blurry when placed in InDesign and Exported as PDF?

    Hi there,
I have a problem I've been trying to solve for days but just can't find the answer anywhere on the internet.
I have a large, good quality photoshop file (2268 x 979 pixels, resolution 300 pixels per inch). When I place it into InDesign, the image appears OK (I've changed my display settings to HIGH) - I then resize it in InDesign to 10% and the file still looks great! Then, when I export it as PDF (high quality print) it looks blurry.
Does anybody know why? The strangest thing is, I've placed other photoshop images in the same InDesign file and they look crystal clear. It is just this one I am having trouble with. I've saved it in the same folder as the other pictures, I've tried placing it as psd. , jpg. , photoshop pdf, png. everything...
The image looks great in both photoshop and indesign, only when exported as pdf it looks awful.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
    Many thanks in advance!
    Weronika

It's probably the extreme reduction -- you're throwing away 90% of the image pixels and interpolating, and then using jpeg compression on top.

  • How to embed SWF in InDesign and export as PDF?

I am trying to do something that seems very simple, but I can't get it to work. I have a simple SWF animation that I have exported from Flash CS5, and I have placed it into my Indesign CS5 document. I checked these items in the Media panel:
    Play on Page Load
    Poster: From Current Frame
When I export the PDF, I select PDF/X-4 and choose Interactive Elements: Include Appearance. I get a still image of the animation in the PDF, but it doesn't play. Why?

Hi, I have the same issue??
Even when exporting as an interactive pdf.
My problem is that I am trying to figure out how to export my swf embedded file into an interactive pdf.
I have created an interactive presentation with buttons, effects etc. After which I exported to swf so that all the effects work.
But when placing the swf file back into indesign and exporting again as an interactive pdf it doesn't work at all, all I get is a white screen. (I need a pdf for clients basically, they dont want any swf or flash files.)
Even though after placing the swf file, in the media window I ticked play on page load as well as chose a cover image for the swf file. Still just a white screen when exporting.
To repeat, I need to know how to convert my swf file into an interactive pdf.
Any pointers please would be great I have some swf presentations I need to change into pdf as soon as possible or before tomorrow to be exact before our monthly meeting with clients.
    Please help

  • Place multiple pdfs into separate indesign and export to pdf again

Ok I have a lot of PDFs that I need to place into indesign in their own file, then re-export back as a PDF again.
Can anyone recommend a script for this if there is one? All the pdfs have different page counts etc. and I don't need to save the Indesign file.
I just want to put all the PDFs into their own InDesign file and reexport to PDF again. They are all A4 sized PDFs, 210 x 297mm.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks harbs
I need to Save all the pdfs as RTF, and some of the PDFs have bad tags and won't allow me to save as RTF.
I can batch process them in Acrobat to Print to PDF and that works for some, but not all the PDFs, it won't print some of them back to PDF.
I have 100's of these "bad pdfs" and it would be great to be able to place them all into separate indesign files and export out as pdf again. It will be tedious to run the PDF importer and export for all of the files.
I don't need to save the indesign file, just place and export the pdf again.
Just looking to automate the process.

  • Why does an InDesign document exported to PDF using data merge result in very different sized PDFs?

I've got a small sheet that I update on occasion and use data-merge to add people's names to the sheet. It's very much like an invitation where every invite has a different name on it. I use the data merge feature to select a list of names and then they get inserted into the document. Then I use the Export to PDF command in the data merge window to create a pdf that has all of the invitations in one big file. They are four-up per page on letter sized paper. Sometimes I print 2000 of them and the resulting PDF is about 2mb, sometimes I print 1000 of them and it's 20mb. Document, settings, method of issueing the commands to output the files are all the same. The only difference is the list of names and those are all almost identical in length. Anyone know what could be happening?
One clue is that it takes about a minute to run when the result is going to be a small file and about 5 or more minutes when the result is going to be a large file.
My guess is that sometimes it includes a copy of the images once per page, and sometimes it only includes them once per document, but I'd love to know why and how to control that. Thanks.

And you verified that the links panel shows everything as up-to-date?
The only other things I can suggest at the moment are the standard two trouble shooting steps: Remove minor corruption by exporting and Replace Your Preferences

  • [JS]::[CS3] - Exporting a PDF

    Hi folks,
I am having some difficulties exporting a pdf using javascript.
The code I am using looks like this:
    myDocument.exportFile( ExportFormat.PDF_TYPE, new File(pathToFile) );
myDocument is a business card sized document. When my script is run from CS4 on a mac this code works fine. It exports a business card sized PDF.
However in CS3 on Windows it exports the artwork into a letter sized PDF. I don't think that it is a Windows problem I just happen to only have access to CS3 on windows and CS4 on a mac.
I'd appreciate if anyone can shed some light on this and give me some pointers on how I can ensure my pdf is the correct size (the same size as the document).
    cheers
    Ben

    Have you setup the exportPresets?
Look at the ExportPDFWithOptions.jsx from the indesign_scripting_guide_scripts?
Your export settings might be different in the two applications.
    (app.pdfExportPreferences)
