InDesign CS3 install

RE: InDesign CS3 , I am running XP Pro
I am having a problem setting the command line of the Setup.exe to allow me to do a silent unattended install.
My batch reads as follows:
==========================================================
P:
CD InDesign CD3
setup.exe /s /v"/qn /L*v MSIInstallLog.txt USERNAME=\"John Doe\" COMPANYNAME=\"Adobe Systems\" SERIALNUMBER=\"123456789012345678901234\" INSTALLDIR=\"C:\Program Files\Adobe\InDesign CS3\""
===========================================================
Setup.exe seems to ignore all command line parameters.

Domenick,
This is for questions that relate to the suite, not to individual
applications. You might try to repost your question in the ID forum.

  • InDesign CS3 installing problem

Hi, I know this is an old version of ID but my son has to use it for his online summer school course and I'm having trouble installing it. I'm able to run setup but then nothing else happens. The only Icon that it gives me is Adobe Bridge CS3. I doesn't even load to where I can put in registration key? I'm lost with this and I'm not really that tech smart as you can probably tell.
    thanks.

    Hi Kelli,
    Here's a helpful step-by-step on downloading purchased products: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1006208
If you can try these steps and let us know if you're still having a problem with your install that would be great.
    Thanks!

  • InDesign CS3 Install Problem Wierd

    Dear Friends,
I just got a new computer [ThinkPad t500 running vista ultimate] and wanted to reinstall ID Cs3 and I get a message that my screen reolution has to be upgrated to at lewast 1050 by 780 or whatever. I am now running at 1680X1050 so what';s going on? How can I overcome this ???
    Thanks
    Susan

Try 1440 x 900, which is what my widescreen Toshiba is set for. The installer didn't complain about that, but I run XP, so it may not be strictly comparable.
Have you got UAC turned off? It also helps to start in minimalist mode (that's not the right term, but I just woke up -- it doesn't load non-Microsoft startup items, but is more functional than safe mode, and is equivalent to running the system configuration utility and turning all that stuff off).

  • CS3 InDesign & Illustrator Install Exit Code 7; Other CS3 Apps Install Fine

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse... (no offence to horse lovers out there - it's just an expression)
I'm having trouble performing an silent install of the CS3 suite from a network share on Windows 7.  I've read through a number of posts on here, one of which was a 3 page post on this issue where Mac & Win 7 users alike posted failures, successes and how they got there, and another about removing the OS check feature from the application.proxy.xml file (which didn't work for me; unless I did something wrong...?)  Unfortunately for me after trying much of what was suggested, I'm still facing a brick wall.
All these machines are Core 2 Duo's clocked at no less than 2.2GHz, have 4GB of RAM, have over 100GB of free disk space and are running fully updated/patched installations of Windows 7 32-bit (x86) with Office 2007 Enterprise.
When I try to install the suite silently it fails with 'Exit Code: 7', which according to the CS3_Deployment.pdf means "Unable to complete the silent workflow."  If I take out the "--mode=silent" switch, the GUI launches and installs fine.  I took a look at the compressed log file & searched for "Return value 3", "ERROR" and "FATAL" for clues, but its vague and nondescript.  I didn't copy/paste the entire log in this post for brevity's sake, but you can check it out here:
    Condensed Version: http://pastebin.com/eFKpe9wK
    Unabridged Version: http://pastebin.com/MQDeQZmF
Instead, however, I do want to touch on just a few things from the log:

I've got some initial questions that pertain to what's in the log file:
The areas in bold:  Since the same install also fails on Windows XP machines, what does this mean exactly?
The areas in italics: Can anyone expand on what that means?
The underlined areas: What 'Policy' is this referring to: Setup's own internal policy (like the OS check) or something else?
Here's what I've done so far:
Went through the 'Run a silent installation of Adobe Creative Suite 3' document
Went through the 'Troubleshoot installation with install logs | CS3, CS4' document
Used the Adobe Support Advisor to go through the logs, but it always says that no problems are found.
Recreated the install & uninstall XML files, twice, via the "setup.exe --record=1" method for each application & the entire suiteNot that I think this is important, but I was never prompted to enter a serial number when creating the .XML files.
Renamed the XML files for each application (e.g.: Photoshop-install.xml; CS3Suite-install.xml; Flash-remove.xml etc.)
Copied the XML files to a common folder on a network share (e.g.: \\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\XMLs)
Created install batch files for each application, including the suite, that install via the following command"\\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\Setup.exe" --mode=silent --deploymentFile="\\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\XMLs\Photoship-install.xml"
Tried the installs with & without the "--skipProcessCheck=1" switch but there's no change.
No applications are running during the installs.
Verified my application.xml.override file was in \\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\payloads\AdobeDesignSuitePremiumen_US_Volume
Verified I didn't have any strange characters in my application.xml.override fileI deleted and manually retyped all double quotes just to be sure.
I noticed that the "installSourcePath" property in the install.xml files created point to a local location rather than, what I would expect to be, the installation source folder where I copied the contents of the DVD to.  On a whim I changed it to point to the copied DVD files but that didn't seem to help either so I changed it back.
    FROM: <Property name="installSourcePath">C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\498b43b77cac072081a5692bfc52804</Property>
    TO: <Property name="installSourcePath">\\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3</Property>
Aside from Acrobat Reader 9.4.0, Adobe Flash Player 10 (ActiveX & Plugin) and maybe Shockwave 11, these machines never previously had any other Adobe products installed.
For what its worth, uninstalling Acrobat Reader 9.4.0 doesn't seem to help either.  I didn't try removing Flash Player or Shockwave [yet].
Using the install XML files I created via "setup.exe --record=1", when I run installs for the individual applications silently [via batch files] one at a time, all applications install fine except for Illustrator and InDesign: Exit Code 7.
This may further help suggest my application.xml.override file is fine.
Even more interesting is that I get the same error on Windows XP and Windows 7 machines alike.  (See the image below taken from an XP machine; the same happens on Windows 7 machines so it doesn't appear this problem is OS specific.)
Other than removing Flash Player, Shockwave and ripping out our Anti-Virus solution (Sophos), which is going to be difficult, is there anything I've missed?
Anyone have suggestions on why Illustrator and InDesign don't install?

I spoke with Adobe Support today and was directed to this support article:
    CPSID_84332 - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/843/cpsid_84332.html
Although this article speaks to CS5 installations, even though I thought I made it clear that I was working with CS3, I decided to give it a shot anyway.
The first comment passively suggests troubleshooting [all] "install errors using Creative Suite 5 install logs", which links you to CPSID_84451 - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/844/cpsid_84451.html.  But again, its CS3 I'm having trouble with and I've already linked, what I believe to be, a more appropriate CS3 [and CS4] log troubleshooting document in my first post.
Step 1 requires restarting "your computer in a minimized state before running the installer." - This isn't at all optional nor ideal when we're talking about silent installations, especially when they can take place in the middle of the day - its highly distruptive, or deployments in general.  Plus, I'm not interested in developing a package that will perform the steps outlined and then undo everything.  Its important to note that this isn't a one-off problem: every machine that needs to have CS3 installed experiences this problem.  But for what its worth:
I did as instructed in the troubleshooting documentation but it didn't work.
No other applications fail to install, and all but these lone Adobe CS3 apps install fine; what gives?
Step 2 is to perform a repair installation of the Windows Installer.  (FYI: Windows 7 ships with 5.0, my version is 5.0.7600.16385, and for the record there doesn't seem to be a redistributable download available at this time.)  I can't use this as part of my silent installation package because it calls you to run `sfc /scannow` which is time consuming and, if something is found, often requires a reboot.  Fortunately for me, "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."
Step 3 is to preinstall Adobe Air and the AdobeHelp payloads:
AIR isn't part of the CS3 DVD, it has to be downloaded & installed silently (via -silent -eulaAccepted if you don't have the redistributable package); this was done but didn't help.
There isn't an 'AdobeHelp' payload, only 'AdobeHelpViewerAll', which will not allow a manual instalation so I can't do that.
In summary, these tips unfortunately did not solve the problem.

  • Error Installing InDesign CS3 Server on Windows Server 2008 R2 64BIT

    Hello there-
I'm trying to install InDesign CS3 Server on Windows Server 2008 R2 64BIT (x64) Edition, however, we get a failure indication on the installer. Before, we have installed it properly on Windows Server 2008 R2 32BIT (x32) but some how we cannot proceed on a x64 box.
Is there any limitation on this sense? Any documentation about it?
    Thanks and appreciate your answers.

    Hello,
Have you followed these recommendations from the installation guide ( Installation Guide u2013 SAP Content Server on Windows 2008 ) :
Note: In the IIS 7.0/7.5, all the roles are not selected during the installation by default,
Please make sure all the below roles are included and IIS 7.0/7.5 is installed.

    IIS 6 Management Console
Note: There is a File Upload limitation in IIS 7 on Windows 2008 Server, IIS will reject any file that is
larger than 30 MB. This is a default limitation of IIS. You can increase the maximum file size by
setting the parameter maxAllowedContentLength in the file ApplicationHost.config.
The following command can be used to set the parameter from the command prompt, please
change the directory to Windows\System32\inetserv and then execute the command.
    appcmd setconfig /section:requestFiltering/requestLimits.maxAllowedContentLength:150000000
The value is only an example, in this case the upload limit is set to 150MB.Server has to be restarted
    after execution of this command.
Also, are you using Maxdb to store the files or is it a "flat files" content server  ?
    HTH.

  • Installing InDesign CS3 on Mac OS 10.9.5 Mavericks

Installation of InDesign CS3 on Mac OS 10.9.5 Mavericks
    This question is Not Answered.
    s c perks Oct 14, 2014 6:04 AM
    1. I have InDesign CS3, which I bought about 6 years ago, and installed on my MacBook Pro. I have now got a new Mac Pro running OS 10.9.5 Mavericks. When I bought the machine I asked Apple if I would be able to install my InDesign and they said there would be no problem. But it will not install. The intsllation fails every time near the end. It installs Bridge and one other components, both of which it calls shared components. But InDesign is not installed.
I went to the Adobe web site and looked up what to do. I got to a page that had my product on and it seemed to be telling make I must download an installer. When I clicked on this link, however I got a page with the following message:
    HTTP ERROR: 404 /support/downloads/dlm/main.jsp
    RequestURI=/support/downloads/dlm/main.jsp
I do not know what to do now.
    2. If I do download an installer (I did not need to do this when I first installed the programme on my lap top MacBook Pro 6 years ago, but just installed it from the disc), how do I get rid of the downloader afterwards, since I read somewhere, but cannot remember where, that I should get rid of the installer afterwards but that I should not put it in the trash bin?
Thank you for any help you can give me.
    Stephen Perks

Many thanks for your help. I will try this. After posting this question yesterday I contacted Adobe and was astonished to find that they do not sell InDesign and do not support it and that one can only upgrade to monthly or yearly rental of CreativeCloud. I'm afraid for me this is nonsense, and I consider it very bad practice on Adobe's part. I will have to go to QuarkExpress instead if I cannot install Indesign CS3, which I nearly did do 6 years ago, but after reading such good reviews of InDesign and got it. I wish now I'd got Quark! I appreciate your help.

    Hi Dale,
You can follow the article: System requirements | InDesign to check whether CS3 products can work on InDesign CS3.
Also please let me know what error message you are getting while re installing InDesign.

  • Error message when installing Indesign CS3 trial. I need help ASAP

I have searched the forums and adobe.com and have tried everything that I saw. None of it worked for me. I have tried and tried to install Indesign CS3 trial. I keep getting the error message: Indesign has encountered a problem and must close.
I have windows XP and plenty of RAM. What can the problem be? I have done everything I can think of to do. I added more memory and did everything the forums said to try. I really need this for my class. I am getting behind. I cannot afford to buy the program. Please help!!!!!
    Thank you,
    Teddy

If you scroll down you'll see there's Windows info there, too. Aside from being sure the fonts are activated, you might try renaming the Sing folder, which should be in Program Files\Common\Adobe.
You could also try Help > Configure Plugins and disable the Sing.apln, but I don't know how you can get there if the program won't start. Maybe going to the Adobe InDesign CS3\Plug-Ins\Text folder and changing the name from SING.apln to SING.bak would do the trick.
If it's really the SING problem, that ought to fix it, but you won't be able to work with Oriental languages.

  • InDesign CS3 - Vanilla Install - Question Marks All Over My Content

Yes, I'm still using InDesign CS3 on my MacBook Pro from 5 years ago. CS3 has worked like a charm and I've never had a problem with any files until this morning.
I've got a 120 page book, each page with images and text boxes, none of which are threaded. I opened my file this morning and all my content boxes: images and text have question marks on the top left corner.
I have no plug-ins. The installation is straight out of the box with the occasional updates, which stopped quite awhile ago.
The error that pops up when I place the cursor in a text box is: "31-40-TasksAssemble-Instal.incx" cannot be located.  Another error is: "31-40 TasksDirectly supe-1.incx cannot be located. I have no idea what these mean and when I did a Google search there were only 3 returns and they were from what appeared to be software pirate sites. I can't find a reference to this on the Adobe forums either.
I've saved under a different name, different file type and replaced the preferences, all to no avail. I think the application is behaving as though I've "checked out" the content, but I don't share my files with anyone and the file itself isn't on a network - there is nowhere to check out to, and the commands to check in is grayed out so I can't reverse the behavior.
I'm stumped and I have a deadline! Can anyone help??
    thank you!

No one has worked on or had access to this file but me. I'm on a network but I'm a Mac in a PC world and no one would even know how to find my hd, let alone do anything on it.
I have to believe it is related to my moving my entire project folder to an external hd (not just the file as I mentioned before) as a means of backup. I don't know why it would matter or what it could have done unless there are files created in the Library that are somehow related/linked to the stories.
I'm still searching the Adobe Forums for something related but all ID/IC related discussions relate to people actually using IC!
I've unlinked all of my content from IC and now I'll have to see what happens.
    [POSTSCRIPT]
I've been editing my layout most of the day and so far so good.
The oddity of each box asking for a link to InCopy, which has never been used, happened only after I dragged my project folder to an external hard drive as a precautionary backup. All InDesign files in both original and backup folder suffered this problem. I didn't dare open any other ID files for fear of corrupting them so I can't say how widespread this problem would have been.
I do not know why making a copy of a folder would have created this problem and I can't find any discussion thread that talks about it, much less sheds any light on the subject.
After unlinking all of the boxes from their non-existent "host file" the boxes remained intact complete with images and formatting. I saved often!

  • Indesign CS3, 5 and 5.5 are installed, but only CS3 will open

Indesign CS3, 5 and 5.5 are installed, but only CS3 will open. CS 5 and 5.5 versions seem to be opening but then "quit unexpectedly." Any ideas on how to get 5.5 to open and to be default version? Thanks!

OS 10.6.8, we are in a college marketing office, and another in the office has the same setup, also with the 3 versions of InDesign. He's not having this problem. This has been a problem on this iMac since 5 and then 5.5 were installed.
What happens is that when you open the applications from the dock or applications folder, 5 and 5.5 seem like they're opening, but then the "quit unexpectedly" message. Here are screen shots: Thanks for any clue to this odd behavior.

  • Installing CS4 and keeping InDesign CS3

Can I install CS4 without removing InDesign CS3? I need to keep both on my computer. is there a trick to this? Also, if I decide to remove CS4 later from my computer and move it elsewhere, can I uninstall it without imperilling InDesign CS3?

You can install CS4 and keep CS3. Just remember that IF these are upgrades, you cannot use CS4 and CS3 on different computers simultaneously. They are for the use of a single person. Technically, your upgrade license for CS4 supersedes you license for CS3. You no longer have a license for CS3 anymore. I doubt Adobe objects to you using  CS4 and CS3 on the same computer. You can remove CS4 on a computer and put in on a new machine. A commercial license allows the non-simultaneous use on two computers. You probably can turn on the old computer when you have an occasional job that requires CS3.

  • Can't install InDesign CS3

I keep getting the following error when I attempt to install my InDesign CS3
    "codec overrun"
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Kim, if you downloaded the installer and see this error message, the installer might be corrupt from the transfer. You might try downloading it again or try installing from a disk.

  • InDesign CS3 will not open after installing updates

    Hello,
I am having a problem printing borderless with InDesign CS3. When my paper size is set on borderless my photos print very light. If Iremove the borderless setting the photos print fine.
In a effort to correct this problem I downloaded  and installed updates for InDesign CS3 now InDesign will not open.

5.0.3 should not have installed after 5.0.4 (that's a problem with the installer), and it may have added problems. First things to try, though, before we get down to uninstalling and reinstalling again, are trashing the prefs (Replace Your Preferences), trying a new user account, and starting with extensions disabled (hold down the Shift key when you boot).
If it comes to reinstalling again, you should probably also run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) before reinstalling, and make sure you have the correct update which you can download again from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4029
