InDesign CS3 - MathType 6 Postscript error

We have using MathType 6.0 eps file to build the math in Indesign CS3 and this particular project has fully Math. Client required the Math using MT 6.0 only. I'm unable to create a PDF through postscript from Indesign CS3, whereas I would have placed the same eps file (MT 6.0) into Indesign CS2 and we should be able to create PDF through postscript. Our workflow is to create PS to PDF not to export PDF from Indesign CS2/CS3. I have attached the eps file (MT 6.0) for your reference. Kindly look at the error below Mr. Indrajith had earlier, while creating PS to PDF.
%%[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: makefont ]%%

Seems to me you have two choices:
1) You can give client required Mathtype EPS files without PDF.
2) Or you can educate client. Mathtype EPS files don't always work. Illustrator AI files do.
You don't have to leave out the EPS files. You can still deliver EPS to client, in fact you'll want to save EPS (or WMF) as a source file from which to make changes. Just make the AI file for ID.
FWIW, I've been using various versions of Mathtype with different DTP applications (not just Indesign) since 1997. None of the versions I've used (I haven't tested 6.5 yet) has been 100% suitable for high-end desktop publishing. Despite that, I've always managed to make it work, and I've typeset dozens of equations books--some with literally thousands of equations in them--using Mathtype.
Sometimes the client really is wrong.

I use InMath in InDesign. We have equations/stacked Math problems in Word with MathType 6.5 used.
I want to copy and paste the text out of MathType 6.5 and paste it in InDeign as "text" to do the equations in InMath in InDesign. I have not succeded. The copy/paste from Words MathType keeps pasting in as a graphic.

  • Can't read PageMaker 6.5 files with InDesign CS3

I have a lot of old PageMaker 6.5 files that need to be upgraded to InDesign.
When I try to open them in InDesign CS3, I get an error that says:
Cannot open the file "XYZ". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.
I get this error on a Mac Pro G5 (PowerPC), running OS X 10.5.8.
What's interesting is that when I try to open the same files on other computers on the network, it works just fine.  The other machines are all Intel Macs, running OS X 10.6.8 or greater.  The files are on a Mac Server.
Can this problem be fixed on the Mac G5, maybe by installing a plugin, or is there no hope?
    Thanks!

Interesting thought, but I suspect the file is actually a training manual and that's the real name of the file, with no extension at all. Pagemaker 6.5 files would have had a .p65 extension, I believe.

  • CS3 Postscript errors when printing MathType eq's

When printing documents in CS3 that contain placed EPS files that were created with MathType I get a PostScript error. The same EPS files print fine to the same printer from CS2.
Has anyone had a similar experience or know of a solution?
    Thanks,
    Phil

    Phil,
I have also had the same problem with MathType equations in ID CS3. Similar to what you said, it printed fine out of ID CS2. I found that exporting my document as a PDF and then printing that worked fine (and that way the equations are all still editable). However, I'm unhappy with that solution because many of my commercial print providers specifically request that I print to postscript and distill. I know Adobe has assured us that using the Export function is perfectly legitimate and should meet all the needs of commercial print providers, but I'm not sold. Plus it's annoying to have to make a PDF and print that every time I want to print a document.
As an aside, I work on a Mac G5 and use LinoType FontExplorer for my font management. Is this problem limited to Mac, or does it happen on a PC also?
In trying to track down the root of the problem, my step were this:
I completely wiped my system of all but the necessary system fonts, uninstalled MathType, and restarted. I reinstalled MathType 5.1 for Mac. It automatically installs TrueType fonts, so I remade one of my problematic equations in MathType with the TrueType fonts. It used Symbol, MT Extra, and Times. I made a hardcopy printout from MathType - no problem.
I imported the new MathType equation into a new document in ID CS3. I printed to a postscript file, using "PPD: Device Independent" (which should take care of any individual printer finickiness). The .ps printed fine, but I got "[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: makefont ]" when I distilled it (I've been using my Distiller settings in a professional book publishing environment for the past 8 months without issue).
Next I permanently deleted the TrueType fonts and installed the Postscript fonts that MathType provides, following the instructions that come with the program on how to do this. I restarted again, and replicated my previous test. Same outcome.
I opened the equation in Illustrator, and saved it as an .eps. Obviously this isn't ideal because it destroys MathType's editability on it, but this was just to test a theory. I imported the Illustrator equation into ID CS3 (with fonts embedded), and it printed to .ps and distilled fine. Because of this, I think your observation that ID CS3 isn't downloading the necessary fonts for the equations (which you point out can't be embedded in MathType) is correct.
Thoughts? I'd love to get to the bottom of this if anyone has any more insight.
    Thanks,
    Virginia

  • Error Installing InDesign CS3 Server on Windows Server 2008 R2 64BIT

    Hello there-
I'm trying to install InDesign CS3 Server on Windows Server 2008 R2 64BIT (x64) Edition, however, we get a failure indication on the installer. Before, we have installed it properly on Windows Server 2008 R2 32BIT (x32) but some how we cannot proceed on a x64 box.
Is there any limitation on this sense? Any documentation about it?
    Thanks and appreciate your answers.

Note: There is a File Upload limitation in IIS 7 on Windows 2008 Server, IIS will reject any file that is
larger than 30 MB. This is a default limitation of IIS. You can increase the maximum file size by
setting the parameter maxAllowedContentLength in the file ApplicationHost.config.
The following command can be used to set the parameter from the command prompt, please
change the directory to Windows\System32\inetserv and then execute the command.
    appcmd setconfig /section:requestFiltering/requestLimits.maxAllowedContentLength:150000000
The value is only an example, in this case the upload limit is set to 150MB.Server has to be restarted
    after execution of this command.
Also, are you using Maxdb to store the files or is it a "flat files" content server  ?

  • InDesign CS3 crashes without error when opening any 2nd InDesign file

Issue: InDesign CS3 crashes without error and remains resident in memory if we have an InDesign file open and attempt to open a second InDesign file.
    OS: Win XP SP2
    InDesign Version: 5.0.2
Hardware: Dell Precision WorkStation T3400, 4 gigabytes of memory, Intel Core2 Quad processor Q6600
Details: No messages in the event viewer about the problem. We renamed the InDesign Defaults and the InDesign Saved Data file. We removed Creative Suite, restarted and then reinstalled Creative Suite (I could not remove and reinstall InDesign individually). We have created a new Windows profile for this user. I have one computer having the trouble. Other InDesign installations are working fine. This computer has 559 files in C:\windows\fonts. Other people that are not having the problem have a larger number of fonts installed.
The issue is not file specific. We are not running out of memory as I checked the task manager after the first InDesign document is open.
Why is opening a second document different than opening the first document?

    Hello Peter and Josh,
I'd just like to assert that I am having the exact same problem as Josh. I've spent the time to go through the steps listed above and have found the same results.
The issue as we see it multiple times daily is as follows:
    (1) User opens File1 (everything works fine)
    (2) User goes to open File2 (via explorer or via file->open) or print File1
    (3) The User Interface for ID disappears (InDesign.exe still appears in Task Manager and is NOT listed as "Not Responding", ID does not appear in the Task Bar)
    (4) The only way to continue work is to End Task/End Process InDesign.exe and relaunch.
No error messages appear, no error logs are created(that I can find). Non-related concerns caused us to upgrade this users PC. With a completely new install we are still having the problems. The systems are listed as follows:
OS: Win XP SP2 (fully updated minus SP3)
    InDesign Version: 5.0.2
Newest Hardware: Custom Built Computer, 4GB RAM installed (3.24 recognized by windows), Intel Core2 Quad processor Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz
OS: Win XP SP2 (fully updated minus SP3)
    InDesign Version: 5.0.2
Older Hardware: Custom Built Computer, Intel D945GTP Motherboard, 2GB RAM installed, Intel Pentium D processor @ 2.8Ghz
    Troubleshooting:
    (1) Alt+Space and M then using arrow keys moves every other window the user had opened other than In-Design. The user has two monitors. (a) 1280x1024 and (b) 1200x1600 (yes she uses the monitor rotated 90 degrees
    (2) Log files - Non exist in the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3 folder. I've also done a search across the entire hard drive for any "*.log" files, none of which were adobe related.
    (3) Default Printer - Changing the default printer to Adobe PDF is not really an option. I was able to convince the user to temporarily switch to a different networked printer and await the results (most likely today or tomorrow it should recreate)
    (4) /3GB switch - Getting that last 700 something MB of memory isn't an issue. I've run MemTest.exe on all the available system memory overnight in a "burn in" test. The system ran fine the sticks were nice and warm when I got in from all the hard work :)
    (5) Order of Opening - The problem repeates regardless of order. The trick seems to be opening File2 or printing File1 (I had the user only work on one file at a time (required her to close any open files before opening the next, that wasn't fun for my user but the system didn't crash on opening in this scenario, just on printing. Obviously not a permanent work around)
Any help here would be much appreciated as this has been plaguing us for months now.

  • Error message when opening Indesign CS3

After using Indesign CS3 without trouble for several years, today I reloaded it onto a new PC (generally identical to the old; a little more powerful) but when starting it up, keep getting the message 'Error 45.   Error String - Object invalid'.   Reference is made to line 387 and then line 345.   When a new document is opened, the programme just hangs.  I have never experienced anything like this before.
I have removed the programme from the system (Win 7) and reinstalled it but the error continues.
    Any ideas?

My recollection is this is a Suitcase error. There was a thread about it here a few months ago, I believe, and I think an update to Suitcase fixed it.

  • Error message when installing Indesign CS3 trial. I need help ASAP

I have searched the forums and adobe.com and have tried everything that I saw. None of it worked for me. I have tried and tried to install Indesign CS3 trial. I keep getting the error message: Indesign has encountered a problem and must close.
I have windows XP and plenty of RAM. What can the problem be? I have done everything I can think of to do. I added more memory and did everything the forums said to try. I really need this for my class. I am getting behind. I cannot afford to buy the program. Please help!!!!!
    Thank you,
    Teddy

If you scroll down you'll see there's Windows info there, too. Aside from being sure the fonts are activated, you might try renaming the Sing folder, which should be in Program Files\Common\Adobe.
You could also try Help > Configure Plugins and disable the Sing.apln, but I don't know how you can get there if the program won't start. Maybe going to the Adobe InDesign CS3\Plug-Ins\Text folder and changing the name from SING.apln to SING.bak would do the trick.
If it's really the SING problem, that ought to fix it, but you won't be able to work with Oriental languages.

  • App Error msvcr80.dll Adobe InDesign CS3,4,5

We produce a a third party plug-in for use in InDesign CS3,4, and 5.  The plug-in works fine for several thousand people, but there are a small number that continually get the following Event ID 1000 error whenever they try to launch our plug-in:  "Faulting application indesign.exe, version <version number>, faulting module msvcr80.dll."  The Event ID generates after CS3,4 or 5 crashes.  These machines are typically windows XP SP3 on recent hardware running Intel processors and 2 gig of RAM.
A complete reinstall from the Adobe hard media and re-install of our plug-in may work for a while, but then the issue will begin to appear again after several days or weeks.  The error doesn't always occur if different people use the same workstation, but at some point it will eventually begin to happen to each user.
I am not looking to point any fingers but am trying to figure out what to fix or where to go next.  The plugin may be a trigger for this crash, but we don't believe it's the plug-in that is the problem.  Too many are using it without ever getting an error.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?  Is it possible it's an issue with user profiles? Antivirus? etc.?

  • Hi There, cannot open an InDesign document in CS3. Getting Plugin errors

I have a InDesign document created in CS4. I cannot access the file from a computer with CS3. I get a lot of plugin errors at the start up.
Please help as this is a very important document

@Naga Sai J – you cannot open an InDesign CS4 file in the previous version.
But you can export an exchange file format for InDesign CS3.
Go to File/Export and chose INX for export: "InDesign CS3 Interchange-Format (INX)"
That .inx file could be opened with InDesign CS3.
After opening the .inx file, examine it well!
Some things might have changed (things regarding to newer or changed features from InDesign CS4).

Did you also install any new fonts? That looks like a font error.

  • Indesign CS3 error on start up

Indesign CS3 on startup up reports a Java Script error- number 45 line 387. Had previously been working fine. Also works ok in other user accounts on my mac. I have tried trashing preferences, renaming recovery data, using clean up tool and then re-installing whole CS3, but the still still remains. Any advice/ help?

Hm, your "Date Modified" entries suggest you did a clean install of CS3 yesterday…
    Sorry, cannot help any further…
Do you have  issues other than the error message?
Maybe menu entries missing in the area "XML…", "XHTLM/Dreamweaver…" or "XHTL/Digital Editions"…?
These are the ones that are Flash-based and are loaded as Startup Scripts.

  • InDesign CS3 Feathering/Text Error

I am experiencing a strange error when I feather a photo placed in my InDesign CS3 file.
If I feather it in Photoshop and keep a transparent background (PSD or EPS) and don't flatten the image, or if I feather the image directly in Indesign CS3 using the object effects, it causes the font to appear differently (almost thinner).
As soon as I delete the image or flatten the transparency in Photoshop, the font goes back to normal.
Is there a way around this? I'd ultimately like to use the feathering effect directly in InDesign.
    I'd appreciate any advice.
    Thanks!

The use of transparency affects the screen draw in ID, though I've never seen type get thinner, only heavier. This is a known issue, and there is currently nothing you can do to change it. You may continue to see the difference on-screen or in print on a desktop device, but it generally doesn't make it into print on a press.

  • Indesign CS3 report an error only for one of mac accounts

When I open Indesign CS3 it get a message that sounds like "error report has been generated..." and so on.
    I've already uninstalled ed re-installed Adobe CS3
    Photoshop and Illustrator works normally.
I think it's a mac account problem because launching Indesign fron another one it works!
    Thanks

Did you try resetting the prefs? Hold cmd-opt-shift-control as you boot it. If it gets far enough to ask if you want to delete the InDesign preferences files, tell it to do so.
If it crashes before you can reset the prefs, try flushing the caches on the machine with something like Onyx (or whatever cache management app you prefer).
