InDesign CS3 Packaging a .Indd file

Hello All,
We have added a menu in Indesign CS3 application with menu name Package.
On clicking this menu it opens a folder selection to accept a location where a package should be created. This should generate a Folder containing the Document.indd, a Text File , Fonts Folder , Images etc .
Is there a way to do the Package Action programmaticaly using the API?
Are there samples available for achieving this?
Please Guide me.
Waiting for Reply.
Thanks in advance.
Kartik

What you said is the function of the menu [file]->[package].
InDesign has implemented it,hasn't it?

  • Ind CS5 won't package the indd file

It saves all the links etc but when it comes to package the indd file, which is about 120mb, it just spins. Any ideas?
    I'm running it on a PC with i5 processor, 4g ram, win7

Are you updated to the latest patch?
You might be missing a plug-in, although I would think you would receive a notice when opening the file, try to export to IDML, then re-open and package.

  • InDesign Server Stops Including INDD Files

We are generating a book and use InDesign to create the exhibits (art) that go into the book. We have over 140 INDD files that are referenced by the book INDD. When the server reaches about the 140 mark it suddenly stops pulling in the remaining INDD files citing the following error:
InDesign warning: Couldn't open image file
When we reduce the number of INDD files, all of the files are pulled successfully into the book. Any advice on what can be done? We assume that InDesign Server opens each of the referenced INDD files and keeps them open until the book is complete. Is there a limit to how many INDD files can be open at a time? Is there some configuration setting that will enable us to avoid this problem?
Our InDesign Server is running under Windows 2003 Server with 2GB of RAM in production. In Development, we have set up a server with 4GB of RAM and do not see any difference in behavior.

    I currently have a script
that is working by opening each file (from step 2) using Copy and Paste to paste
them into the layout indd file (from step 1) in InDesign CS 5.5 (not the Server
version), but when I was evaluating InDesign Server CS 5.5 I noticed that it
does not allow Copy and Paste in the scripting.
Yes, Copy paste won't come into picture while you are at server.
You could duplicate page Item instead of page itself:
Run it in looping statment and make duplicate all page items to destination document.
    app.documents.item(0).pages[0].pageItems[0].duplicate(app.documents[1].pages[0])
or you could use for all page item in a page
    app.documents.item(0).pages[0].pageItems.everyItem().duplicate(app.documents[1].pages[0])

So, the last implementation of this I had copied sections, created pages, and

It does work in CS5 for me but duplicate whole page at last of destination docment.

  • Why does InDesign CS6 stop recognizing .indd files?

I'm running CS6 on Mac OS X Mountain Lion with my user account set up with Active Directory and I continue to have the same error where InDesign stops being able to open .indd files. I've been having this error happen about every 2nd day for the past 3 weeks. A dialogue message pops up that says "InDesign cannot open CS 5.5 documents" then it won't open any files anymore until the computer is restarted. The program often crashes when I try to quit after getting this error.
I say "stops opening indd files" because it's not an error that occurs with one individual file, and these are always files that I have opened, worked on and re-saved within a half hour of trying to reopen them. It seems to occur when I'm opening, printing and making PDFs from a large series of files (I work in a production studio and can work on up to 100 documents at once).
The files have been built in CS6 (and not carried forward from a previous version), are located on my desktop as I work on them, with links stored on a local file server.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I'd rather not have to nuke my whole user account to find out that the problem persists :/
    Thanks,
    Sarah

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried resetting the preferences and the error re-occurred within 20 minutes of working within InDesign.
Just finished uninstalling CS6, running the CS Cleaner Tool and reinstalling again. I came across this solution in this thread where someone was having somewhat similar file recognition problems with InDesign. We'll see how the new install goes (fingers crossed).

  • InDesign CC | Error with indd file - "Cannot open the file...Adobe InDesign may not support file format"

I encountered a very strange error with InDesign CC after saving a file created in CS4. I'd attach the file but I'm not sure how to do this, if I'm able to. The file is 44kb and doesn't seem like it should be (file I saved had a large book cover). Now since the original CS4 file was overwritten using InDesign CC, the file is corrupt and I'm getting the error message displayed below. The file is not open within another application. Has anyone gotten this before?

Thanks for your response Peter. Below is the gibber contained in the first four lines. In the first line, where it reads "mimetypeapplication" and then "indesign-idml-package", I would assume that this should've been a valid idml file.

  • Can InDesign CS3 open Corel Draw files?

    Hi,
We have Corel Draw files that need to be converted to InDesign CS3. Can you advise if InDesign can open them?
    Thank you
    Barb

No. Indesign can Place EPS or PDF files saved from CorelDraw.
Illustrator can open CorelDraw files. You could then copy and paste from
Illustrator, although if it were me I think I would want to keep my
    drawings in Illustrator, not Indesign.

  • Indesign will not open .INDD file

A .INDD file I created in Indesign CC will now not open. Icreated the file, saved it to my computer (Mac) and now cannot open in it in the same progam I created it in. I recieve an error message that says the file cannot be supported by my older version of Indesign?! I created this file last week...in the same program I am now trying to open it in...
I have restarted my computer and still no luck openning the file.
    Help!

What is the EXACT error message and what version of InDesign are you using?
Sounds like you may have opened an earlier version of InDesign by accident.

  • Why won't InDesign open its own .indd file on iMac?

I have InDesign CS5.5 on an iMac OS 10.7.5 - I created an .indd file about a month ago on this machine, using this version of InDesign.  This machine is not networked, the file has no links in it, no images and is only 1.3MB in size.
InDesign won't open the file and this is the message I get when I try to open it:
"Cannot open the file "odes_PRINT.indd".  Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, o the file may be open in another application."
No other programs were open, the file was not open in another application and presumably, InDesign ought to support its own file format and not require special plugins to do so. No one but me has been in that file.
I've tried restarting the program and the machine, deleting and replacing preferences and renaming the file.  It seems like this happened to me once before a few years ago with an earlier version and I believe I had to scrap that indd file.  I could rebuild this file as it's just all text, not that big and I have the text in a plain text file BUT I want to know why this happens and what to do about it. I make large files for clients, this is a small client file that I can easily rebuild but some I can't and can't afford to have this happen again.
I've been googling this problem all evening and I'm out of ideas - anyone else got any?

Try my script in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/934429 -- it will tell you if it's an InDesign file or not.
If it tells you it is, the file must be internally damaged beyond repair. (And then you've lost it. Yes, it happens.)
If it tells you it is not, then ... well, then it is not a native InDesign file. At that point you need to retrace your steps: what did you do when you thought you were "saving" it? (As it is, in fact, impossible to use "save" in InDesign and not save 'as' an InDesign file.) What other file type could you have used? Do you ever manually or automatically rename files?
Needless to say, if it is no longer an InDesign file (never mind what the file extension says), then you cannot open it in InDesign anyway. But if you know what type of file it is, you can open it with the appropriate software (e.g. a JPEG viewer or an RTF reader) and see what's in it.

  • Manage multiple versions(ID CS,CS2,CS3,CS4) of INDD files Indesign proxy for PC

    Dear scripters,
I have multiple version of ID installed in my system. I have ID CS,CS2,CS3 and CS4. While I am opening (double click) the ID CS file, automatically the file opening in CS4. For solving this problem I have searched in the forums I found there is a program called INDESIGN PROXY for MAC OSX. It manages the problems well.
Now I am in the process of developing the application same like that for windows using VB. Here is my observation about Indesign proxy.
    1. While user double clicks the Indesign file the argument is not passing to the Indesign.exe, but the argument passes to the Indesign proxy. Something like this
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\InDesign.exe" "%1"
    to this
    "C:\Program Files\IDproxy\proxy.exe" "%1"
    2. The proxy exe lists all the version of IDs in a dialog box. If user selects CS2, the proxy exe passes the command argument something like this
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS2\InDesign.exe" "%1"
    3. Now the file will open in correct version.
I am comfort with VB forums and coding but I am struck getting the file path while user double click's the file. I short need to get the file path of "%1" argument.
    I think I am detailed.
Kindly advice me how can I proceed more?
    Thanks

    I don't think it's a mistake.
    "InDesign CS4 (3.0)"
means: this is the OM for InDesign 3.0 (i.e., InDesign CS) that is contained in InDesign CS4.
Wait -- do you mean there might be a difference between "the OM for InDesign 4.0 (i.e., InDesign CS2) that is contained in InDesign CS4" and, say, "OM for InDesign 4.0 (i.e., InDesign CS2) that is contained in InDesign CS5" ?
Why on earth would anyone need that? I imagine it's not because even with versioning the 'older' scripts may not behave the same -- there must be dozens of mails about versioning not working ... I mean, if Adobe knows what causes older scripts to stop working (because, if I understand you correctly, they retroactively change it in the documentation for older versions), wouldn't it be yet easier to not cause those changes?

  • Indesign CS3 Packaging/Preflighting

When packaging/Preflighting, and the summary screen displays with errors. The majority of the times I still have some RGB files.
In "links and images", I have to memorise the file name, find the file or look it up in the links palette then edit it. Since more often than not there are many links, it is inconvenient.
A simple "edit original" button next to the "update link" button would be very helpful.
It would also be easier if this window was resizable. As at the moment, the user can only view 4 links at a time.
I hope I have provided some good input
    Thanks kindly,

  • Error 6640 InDesign CS3 - Can't open files.

    Hello;
I can't seem to open, save or export any of my documents due to an Error Code: -6640 that pops up when I click on any of the folders in the 'Open File' box. The message reads:
"The operation could not be completed. There was a problem with selected file or folder. It might have been moved, renamed, or deleted."

  • How to import an Quarkxpress 5 file into Indesign CS3

    Hello,
I am in trouble when  trying to open with Indesign CS3 for windows a file created with Quarkxpress 5 for Mac. Do you have any hint? (file attached)
    thanks for support

The Q2ID plugin is really nice as Bob suggested. If you go through there website they will convert your one document and post it for you to download, email you with the results and a discount code. Well worth the money and a very nice company to work with. I can't say enough nice things about their products.
If you have a newer version of Quark licensed I prefer use their Markztools plugin for Quark to backsave to 4. Seems to be a better conversion with InDesign's Quark import, though that could just be my impression.

  • InDesign CS3 will not open double-clicked files on server (10.5)

I've got an odd one here. I have two new 10.6 machines running InDesign CS3, and a simple file server running 10.5.6.
When we open an InDesign file on the server using the "File Open" dialog box, the files open fine. If we navigate to a folder on server from the Finder and try to double-click on the file, it will launch ID if not open, but not open the file. It looks like it would open, but does not.
Does anyone have an idea why this might be happening? It would sure be easier for the kids to open files that way.
    Dave Riedle

I have this issue also. InDesign [CS4] begins to start up, the "initializing..." label appears, then it immediately quits. Started after I had to revert back to 10.7.3 from 10.7.4 due to frequent and incessant kernel panics in 7.4. I tried uninstalling all CS4 apps (using the CS4 uninstall tool), then ran Adobe Cleaner Tool, then did a clean install of CS4 (Design Premium), including a fresh input of the serial number. All other CS4 apps open normally.
Interestingly, upon your suggestion, I created a new user account, then tried to open InDesign there. It opened normally, so at least I can use it in the "Test Account" I created. Any suggestions on how to get it to work in my account?

I too have CS 5.5 and need to transfer files to CS5 machines at school. Yeah, I think Steve is right.  I think the message about the plug-ins is incorrect, and may have been removed from updated versions of CS5.  I don't think updating plugins, or CS5, will work.  As far as I know!  Most of the time if you export to InDesign Markup Language, it will work.  Sometimes I have found, however, that it does not, for some reason, depending on my computer in the lab at school.  But, if you package the indd file, then go back and open the indd from the package, then export it back into the package as an IDML, it will work.  Ofcourse, you have to transfer the whole package, instead of just one file, but this has saved my rear-end at school; just open the IDML version from the package (both IDML and INDD will be in the package file).
