InDesign CS3 + Printing Problem

I have a very simple problem, but am not sure how to solve it. If I ever print more than one copy than anything, InDesign flattens the document that many times before it prints. If I want 100 copies, I must wait for InDesign to flatten and process my brochure 100 times, and THEN it will print. I know there must be something I'm overlooking. Any advice?

You could try creating a PDF and printing that. Might be a bit faster
especially if you flatten the PDF.

    I teach in a Mac computer Lab (mac OS X) and InDesign CS2 is a huge headache for me; my students can't print their work half the time. I read online a lot of member posts about InDesign CS2 printing problems. Would a CS3 upgrade help?

    CS3 upgrades are no longer available now that CS4 is out!
    Perhaps if you described your particular problems, members of this forum could assist you. Note however, that CS2 was not supported on MacOS X 10.5 (Leopard).

  • Placed QuarkXpress 7 eps into InDesign CS3 prints with slanted type

    any suggestions to fix?

    placed QuarkXpress 7 eps into InDesign CS3 prints with slanted type
    The problem may be in the HP print drivers.
    Printing to Epson printers works, printing to HP 132, 5000 or 2200 produces slanted type, even at Adobe.
    Printing to disk as a Postscript printer and then printing the ps file using the pdf printer works fine.

  • InDesign CS3 Print Booklet function

    I have an issue with InDesign CS3 Print Booklet Function.
    Certainly Print Booklet is not InBooklet by any stretch. It does however have to be an integral part of the InDesign Program(one of the reasons it is better than QuarkXPress).
    Print Booklet takes the age old practice of creating 4 page signatures for booklets of 4-page multiples and when you get to 12-16 pages it mysteriously inserts blank pages making non-4 page multiple booklets. I have had 12 page booklets made into 14 and 16 page booklets into 18 pages.
    Is there a fix for this issue forthcoming from Adobe, or has anyone discovered a workaround?
    I do not want to teach students that they have to go to PDF's and use another way to impose, when it is an important part of InDesign.

    >I click Printer Settings to make sure I've got spreads selected and crop marks etc.
    Make sure you DON'T have the "print spreads" box checked when setting up to use Print Booklet.
    >make booklet makes low res pages in an InDesign file and Booklet CE 3.5 makes a new InDesign file up of individual PDFs but the pages are all out of order.
    I'm not sure what you mean by "make booklet makes low res pages." Are you referring to Dave's MakeBooklet.jsx script? That simply places the pages from an existing InDesign file into a new file in Printer spread order. It's up to you what sort of resolution any page element has in the original file, or what PDF settings you use to make a PDF from the new file. Perhaps you need to adjust your View > Display Quality setting?
    The pages in an imposed file SHOULD be "all out of order." You are looking at printer's spreads, not reader's spreads. Are they not in the correct order for printing?

  • Indesign & PDF printing problems

    Hello!
    I have a paper to be printed out on a Laser Printer (600-1200)
    It is a black and white document.
    The problem is that the results are very different, when you print directly from Indesign CS3, (which is the Indesign Document), & PDF. The simple document to printed out contains editable text + object graphics.
    When you print the document DIRECTLY from InDesign CS3, on the black and white laser printer, the result is nice and smooth color plates.
    BUT, when I export the document to a PDF, and print out on the same printer, everything is rasterized (dots).
    The settings in export to PDF is high quality, and I also tried selecting quality 2. (which is said to be the best for laser printers.
    In the print directly from InDesign CS3, it is the program's own settings, but if I print out as PDF its the printer settings.
    Someone who knows what the problem might be, why so different kind of printouts?
    Grateful for tips and solution to the mystery!

    You haven't said what printer this is. It makes a difference if it is Postscript, and what the settings are in your preferences for handling of Black when printing directly from ID.
    To be sure you get solid black text when you export, make sure there is no color profile conversion, or that you have selected preserve numbers.
    >When you print the document DIRECTLY from InDesign CS3, on the black and white laser printer, the result is nice and smooth color plates.
    You lost me here. What color plates? You said this was a B&W document.

  • CS3 printing problem

    Working in CS3 on my Mac, I routinely export PDFs from InDesign for printing at Kinko's or Office Depot or anywhere else I can find a laser printer.
    Although I can take the native InDesign file to print, I prefer the more conservative approach and export the PDF.
    This system has worked flawlessly until the last month or so. The top margins, while set precisely in InDesign and exported precisely to Acrobat, are printing off by about an eighth of an inch. I've tried printing PDFs at Kinko's and Office Depot and have gotten the same results. At Kinko's I printed the native InDesign files perfectly.
    As I have changed none of my output settings, the only thing I can think of is that the discrepancy results from my using Acrobat 8 and the printing folks using Acrobat 9.
    Any input? Is this a known problem? Is there a work-around that eliminates my having to update my software?
    Thanks for any help.

    Ah, yes. I neglected to say that those choices are set in the print dialogue: No scale, and do not center content.

  • Indesign CS3-JS - Problem in reading text from a text file

    Can anyone help me...
    I have an problem with reading text from an txt file. By "readln" methot I can read only the first line of the text, is there any method to read the consecutive lines from the text file.
    Currently I am using Indesign CS3 with Java Script (for PC).
    My Java Script is as follows........
    var myNewLinksFile = myFindFile("/Links/NewLinks.txt")
    var myNewLinks = File(myNewLinksFile);
    var a = myNewLinks.open("r", undefined, undefined);
    myLine = myNewLinks.readln();
    alert(myLine);
    function myFindFile(myFilePath){
    var myScriptFile = myGetScriptPath();
    var myScriptFile = File(myScriptFile);
    var myScriptFolder = myScriptFile.path;
    myFilePath = myScriptFolder + myFilePath;
    if(File(myFilePath).exists == false){
    //Display a dialog.
    myFilePath = File.openDialog("Choose the file containing your find/change list");
    return myFilePath;
    function myGetScriptPath(){
    try{
    myFile = app.activeScript;
    catch(myError){
    myFile = myError.fileName;
    return myFile;
    Thanks,

    Hi Bharath Raja G,
    If you want to use readln, you'll have to iterate. I don't see a for loop in your example, so you're not iterating. To see how it works, take a closer look at FindChangeByList.jsx--you'll see that that script iterates to read the text file line by line (until it reaches the end of the file).
    Thanks,

  • InCopy/InDesign CS3 Assignment Problem

    Hello everyone--
    For the past three years we've used Version Cue CS3 for workflow on our publication.  For the most part its worked fine.  Recently though, we've had to get a new computer for an office on the West Coast and a new router on our office on the East Coast (the operating system we use on the East Coast is Windows XP Profesional.)  The computer on the West Coast is running Windows 7, and it seems InCopy CS3 installed on it without a problem--until it came time to do our publication.
    The way our system is set up is the West Coast machine uses a VPN tunnel to see our network here--so all it really has to do is connect to the Version Cue server's IP address.  This set up worked fine when the machine was a Windows XP based machine, but since the changeover, InCopy doesn't seem to be reading the assignment files correctly.  For example, on an Indesign File the copy fits fine and dandy in the layout, and the assignment looks okay when I open it up on InCopy over here.  When InCopy opens it up on the Windows 7 machine, the body copy is invariably 3-5 lines over and any formatting changes made from the Windows 7 machine, like changing words to italics, won't be reflected on the updated assignments file. (I confirmed this by emailing our West Coast editor the assignment file directly and InCopy CS3 still wasn't reading it correctly.)  Also, at one point we apparently lost some big changes made over the weekend but changes like new headlines held.  Any ideas on why this is happening?
    Also, and I'm not sure this is related, but since we installed our new RV082 router, we've been getting strange "Version Cue server offline messages" every so often, and then when we go into a project Version Cue suddenly reads it as "online and connected" again. InDesign CS3 often hangs whenever we try to open up a file on the Version Cue server.  The only way we've been able to get InDesign to start up is to delete the recovery folders and synchronize everything first--this, needless to say, has been a bit of a time waster.
    All our programs are CS3 and except for the West Coast machine, all are running Windows XP pro.
    Thanks for your help!

    We are installing and using the software under the administrator logins.
    My main concern is that we purchased computers that have a processor that is incompatible with Adobe InCopy/InDesign CS3.   We purchased two types of PC's, some with AMD Atholon II processors and some with Intel Core2 vpro processors.  InDesign/Incopy CS3 were going to go on the Intel's (more power computer) and the InCopy was going to only go on the AMD's.
    Prior to receiving the CS3 versions of the software, I hadn't been aware that was the version we were being assigned by our corporate office.  After looking at the requirements of CS3 on the adobe site, it only mentions Intel Processors as basic requirements.
    (We purchasd the computers with AMD's to save some money....the users requiring InCopy didn't need "as much computer" as the InDesign users).
    Could the processor be the problem?

  • Distribution of InDesign CS3 Print Presets

    Is there a way to "mass" distribute InDesign Print Presets for InDesign CS3?
    Have a large list of Print Presets saved on a server. Would like to "push" them out to over 20 production Macs with CS3, using something like Apple Remote Desktop. Each Print Preset that exists on the server are also on one specific Mac. Each has a unique name. But can NOT find these names when doing a search on the Mac. Where are they actually being stored?

    The CS3 print presets are stored in the ID Preferences (~/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/ Version 5.0/InDesign Defaults).
    Here is a link to an InDesign Secrets article which talks about how to export the presets to a .prst file:
    This article covers CS and CS2, but I'm guessing it's the same for CS3.

  • InDesign CS3 Intallation Problem

    I was wondering if anyone can help. I have downloaded the free 30 day trial of InDesign CS3 3 times now and installed. Each time I try and load the program it comes up with the following message:
    "Adobe InDesign is missing required files. Please reinstall.
    Missing files:\Program Files\Common Files\TypeSupport\...\CP1252.TXT"
    I dont know why this keeps happening or even what to do. Please help because I want to know if this is worth buying or not.

    >I have downloaded the free 30 day trial of InDesign CS3 3 times now and installed.
    This could be a problem. Trial versions can be installed only once on a computer without doing a low-level format in order to keep people from using them over and over without buying the real thing.
    Unfortunately, the CS3 installers are horribly sensitive to a lot of configuration issues and if you haven't got your system properly prepared (which is not well documented anywhere, though you'll find lots of information scattered through these forums), the installation will fail, sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after nearly an hour of what looks like success. I have no idea at what point the installer writes the information, or where, that tells the demo it has been previously installed.
    With the fully licensed version there are a number of options, including a cleanup script, that can put the system back into a state where the installer has a chance of working. It has been suggested a number of times that doing the cleanup might allow a failed demo to install, but I'm not aware of anyone who has tried and posted back that it worked, or didn't work, so I have no way to advise you in that regard.
    It's a little unclear to me just what has happened, though. Are you saying that InDesign actually launches, but throws up an error? If that's the case, it might be possible to copy the missing file from a working system. That certainly worked for earlier versions and the "missing required cmap files" error.
    The file you referenced should be in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\TypeSupport\Unicode\Mappings\Win, along with about a dozen others. You may be seeing only the first missing file, so I'd recommend copying the entire folder.
    Worth buying? That depends on a lot of factors. What do you plan to use it to do? What are you using now? How much will it cost? How long can you wait?
    As a professional I use it everyday, and the upgrade cost From CS2 was paid in increased productivity in a matter of months. Students are eligible for discount pricing that makes it eminently worthwhile to buy before graduation -- you can use it commercially later. If you can wait, the usual pattern is that an upgrade is issued about every 18 to 24 months, so you might expect the CS4 versions to be out by early 2009. One could hope the Installers would be fixed.

  • InDesign CS3 Index problem

    I am trying to combine the indexes of several 30-40 pg. stories in an inDesign CS3 book for print; however, once I minimize the story and try to paste its index into a separate blank document, the cursor is no longer "loaded." It seems that the only way I can create an index is at the end of each individual story, then paste them all into a document and manually alphabetize them. Is there a method by which I can create the index for the entire book at one time?

    The help file says you can index the whole book:
    Long document features / Creating an index
    Generate an index
    Once youve added index entries and previewed them in the Index panel,
    youre ready to generate an index story to place in your document for
    publication.
    An index story can appear as a separate document or in an existing
    document. When you generate an index story, InDesign compiles index
    entries and updates page numbers across your document or book. If you
    add or delete index entries or update numbering in your document,
    however, youll need to regenerate the index to update it.
    If an index marker appears in overset text when you generate the index,
    you are asked if you would like to include these markers in the index.
    If you click Yes, the entry appears in the index without a page number.
    etc

  • InDesign CS3 installation problems

    Hi
    I've just bought an Adobe InDesign CS3 but I'm not able to install it:/ When pressing setup.exe an installation process starts but suddenly crashes and an error occurs: Critical errors were found in setup - Incompatible payloads already installed. I have Win XP with all system requirements. Can you help me?

    Search the Knowledgebase for manual removal and you should find a reference, and a link, to the CS3 cleanup script.
    The downside of running this is that it's going to remove all things Adobe, but it should leave you with a system ready to do a clean install.

    Hi, need help
    i need to tag all objects on a page without modifying any of their positions & content.
    so, i have used Ctr A (select all) and Ctr L to lock all postion.
    But found that in INDESIGN CS3, images that are position locked were not allowed to tag.
    Adobe will gives below error:

  • InDesign CS3 Graphic Problem

    Hello,
    I'm using Adobe InDesign CS3 and I used it to create a logo. I'm trying to post the logo as a header on a blog, but when I post it the quality is considerably poor. The only kind of upload the blog will accept is JPEG... but the highest quality JPEG I export (2400 ppi, progressive) won't upload because it's too large. The other levels of quality don't seem to make a difference after the JPEG is upload it all looks the same. What kind of file should I export for it to look high quality on the site? Thanks in advance.

    Gene Neptune: Indesign CS3
    Have created two huge files for banners (45x102") Each file has four 350dpi images that are sized and placed identically on both files. The rest of the graphics on each are basically identical.
    One of the files is 15.42MB and the other is 6.34MB. What could be wrong?
    In attempting to analyze this, I began deleting graphics, image frames, text frames, everything from the pasteboard until there was nothing left. The file size still shows 15.42MB. I taketh away but the file size stayeth the sameth. WTF
