Indesign cs3 will not launch.. (I don't use Trusteer Rapport)

I am running Vista ultimate 64bit. For nearly 2 weeks I have not been able to get Indesign, dreamweaver, illistrator, etc. to open.
When I click InDesign and I get the glowing circle for about a second, then it just stops. I do not use Trusteer Rapport and I have tried to re-install but ID and Dreamweaver, etc. still won't launch. Please help me before I lose it!
I called Adobe yesterday, after being on hold for 35 minutes and another 20 minutes of getting registered some foreign guy told me since I was using cs3 I had to purchase a contract for $40 just so they could help me. since they only offer support for cs4 or some ****.

Anything in the event log?
Try running this command from Run: “regsvr32 jscript.dll” with the space, but without the quotes. Sometimes javascript isn't properly registered at manufacture. It won't hurt anything to do this again.
I don't like to tell people to reinstall, but it might be the thing to do in this case. Did you let the installer use the default directory? That's very important on Vista 64.
If you decide to reinstall, uninstall, then run the clean script (Using the new CS3Clean Script) and reboot without any antivirus or spayware scanners, no IM, no browser toolbars, and nothing else you don't absolutley need before running the installer again. The CS3 installer was prone to errors.

  • Indesign CS3 will not launch - windows 7

    Hi,
I tried starting indesign last night but when I clicked on the launch icon on my task bar the icon glows I get the egg timer thing but nothing happens. I restarted the computer and it worked ok.
Then I tried it this morning and the same problem occured, however no amount of restarted helped this time. Windows did do some updates last night, but it seems that the problem was there before. I've searched on the internet and found a peice saying to restart in safe mode and launch it there, then flick back to standard mode and it should be ok.
When I did this the indesign loads but with a Error 148:3, and closes. Restarting, in standard, nothing has changed. I did some digging on the 148:3 problem and found an adobe fix, this has not worked either.
I have done nothing to the computer recently other than attach a new monitor (and can't really beleive that would be the cause)
I running windows 7 with the latest update.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I am happy to announce that the problem has now been fixed between Rapport & CS3.
You can download the latest version of Trusteer Rapport (with the fix) here:

  • Indesign CS4 will not launch in Windows Vista

Indesign CS4 will not launch but all other CS4 programs will in Windows Vista, has been worked perfectly up until mid february, I have spent two weeks dealing with Adobe support, and finally I ran “Windows Installer Clean Up” and restarted as requested on phone call to adobe today, then ran “WinCS4Cleanupscript” which inform me that it was clean (or words to that effect) and restarted. Did new install of CS4, at registration I noticed that the Reg Form was pre filled and with my preferences which was a bit strange. After all that Indesign still does not launch but is running. Please can anyone help.

This is the earlier thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/2621367#2621367
I think the onus is on Rapport to sort its software to prevent it interfering with other applications, and there is a post in that thread that indicates that Rapport is both aware of the problem and is working to overcome it.
I would hope that Adobe itself would have picked up this problem by at least monitoring this forum, but other than adding it to the knowledgebase for its technical support, which I don't expect is an overnight thing to do, I can't see what else it would be expected to do.
Perhaps if anyone from Adobe is monitoring this problem they could chime in here and let us know what the position is. I strongly suspect that Trusteer may have been the reason I couldn't get InDesign to run under Windows 7, and so I rolled the whole shooting match back to XP. I am planning to reinstall W7 with the knowledge that I may have to toggle Trusteer on and off to run InDesign, but it would be helpful to have some assurance from either party that a fix is on its way.
In the previous thread the Rapport response implied there was reference to the problem on its FAQ page. If there is I can't find it.

CS3 has worked for 2 years so why and how to fix.
    Thankyou J.

I did a system restore on my system (Windows XP Pro) and cannot open Indesign CS3. When I tried the following error message appeared:
"The licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically. You must reinstall or call customer support."
I tried some of the suggestions here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402004
Indesign CS3 will not open so I cannot deactivate. The instructions say if you have an entire Suite installed, then you only need to deactivate from one application. But I cannot find deactivate anywhere in the other apps. Without deactivating, I cannot uninstall to reinstall.
There was no FLEXnet Licensing Service showing in services.
I tried renaming the FlexNet folder.
    tried moving the cache.db file.
After trying these suggestions I now get the error:
"You cannot use this product at this time. You must repair the problem by uninstalling and then reinstall this product or contact Adobe customer support for help."
    What next?

  • Flash CS3 will not launch

After years of using Flash CS3 on our Windows 7 computer, it would not launch. So we did a system recovery -(everted to factory image), re-installed Windows and updates, installed Flash CS3, then successfully did the license verification. But Flash CS3 will not launch.
We copied the Flash Icon from the Start Menu to the TaskBar. This is the icon we clicked on to do license verification, but now we can't use it to launch Flash CS3.
    Thanks for any ideas.

(I realize Flash CS3 is not meant to work on Win 7, but it has for years on this computer and on a Toshiba laptop, also with AMD processor)

Well I decided to reinstall OSX to see if that would help,
and that seemed to fix it. I'm still not sure what the problem was,
but a fresh install seemes to have fixed it :]

  • InDesign CS3 will not print in OS X

I updated my iMac to OS X 10.9.2 and now my InDesign CS3 will not print.  Help please!

  • InDesign CS3 will not open double-clicked files on server (10.5)

I've got an odd one here. I have two new 10.6 machines running InDesign CS3, and a simple file server running 10.5.6.
When we open an InDesign file on the server using the "File Open" dialog box, the files open fine. If we navigate to a folder on server from the Finder and try to double-click on the file, it will launch ID if not open, but not open the file. It looks like it would open, but does not.
Does anyone have an idea why this might be happening? It would sure be easier for the kids to open files that way.
    Dave Riedle

I have this issue also. InDesign [CS4] begins to start up, the "initializing..." label appears, then it immediately quits. Started after I had to revert back to 10.7.3 from 10.7.4 due to frequent and incessant kernel panics in 7.4. I tried uninstalling all CS4 apps (using the CS4 uninstall tool), then ran Adobe Cleaner Tool, then did a clean install of CS4 (Design Premium), including a fresh input of the serial number. All other CS4 apps open normally.
Interestingly, upon your suggestion, I created a new user account, then tried to open InDesign there. It opened normally, so at least I can use it in the "Test Account" I created. Any suggestions on how to get it to work in my account?

  • Indesign CS3 will not load

I have Adobe Creative Suite CS3 installed on my home PC (Windows XP). All the Adobe programs will start without problems, except Indesign CS3. Nothing happens when I try to start the program. Not even a message comes up? Can anyone help me solve this problem?
    With kind regards
    Maria

I have the same issue on a pc that I've loaded CS3 on. I have a corporate license of CS3 and know for sure the seat is available for install to this machine. It's a Dell Optiplex GS270, P4 @ 2.66Ghz, 2GB ram. the OS is XP pro, fully patched. I'm only using a single Dell monitor. I ran typical install of CS3 from disk, got all the updates from Adobe. Everything opens just fine except for InDesign. When I try to launch the InDesign.exe process appears in Task Manager for 1-2 seconds and goes away. Nothing else happens, no error messages, nothing.
I've loaded CS3 on my other users without any problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, John

  • Indesign CS4 will not launch

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS.  I have some Master Suite CS4 apps loaded.  I recently used Acrobat to convert an Indesign document into a pdf.  Now I cannot open Indesign either from the start icon or by double clicking on a file name. When trying to start the app the "hourglass" cursor shows for a second or two then revers to the inert curser. Has any one else had this happen please and is ther a cure other than a re-install ?

I have now Uninstalled Rapport and Indesign launcehes correctly.

I don't run Rapport or Win7, but I suspect there must be  way to turn off Rapport when you are not doing your banking so you can have it when you need it (Task manager, if nothing else).
Ken Grace has posted in a number of similar threads that Trusteer is aware of the issue and hopes to have it fixed in "a couple of weeks" (their words).

  • InDesign CS3 will not open after installing updates

    Hello,
I am having a problem printing borderless with InDesign CS3. When my paper size is set on borderless my photos print very light. If Iremove the borderless setting the photos print fine.
In a effort to correct this problem I downloaded  and installed updates for InDesign CS3 now InDesign will not open.

5.0.3 should not have installed after 5.0.4 (that's a problem with the installer), and it may have added problems. First things to try, though, before we get down to uninstalling and reinstalling again, are trashing the prefs (Replace Your Preferences), trying a new user account, and starting with extensions disabled (hold down the Shift key when you boot).
If it comes to reinstalling again, you should probably also run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) before reinstalling, and make sure you have the correct update which you can download again from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4029

  • InDesign CS3 will not perform "Save As"...

    Hello,
I have been running ID CS3 for several years now and I have never had this problem.
I can open file, work on file, and "Save" file. I cannot perform a "Save As" or "Save as copy". Also, when I try to export to PDF, Indesign crashes with no error messages. I am running on Mac OSx 10.5.8. Thanks!

    Thanks Peter for your response.
When I click "Save As" nothing happens. No dialogue box on top or underneath the current open windows. And it will not let me save as a copy either.
My workaround has been to copy the files and rename them before I open and begin to work. Then I can save from there. It's just creating extra steps which equal extra time.
My biggest frustration is the "Export to PDF" factor. I can't figure out why it would crash Indesign. I can print to post script and run it through distiller just fine, but again, extra steps.

  • Indesign CS3 will not prompt to save

I recently updated my indesign cs3 with the adobe updater but when I opened the program it said that my workgroup client.indesign pl
ugin was conflicting with my workgroup client UI.indesign plugin, so i went online and downloaded the indesign cs3 update and indesi
gn was working fine except that the program will not SAVE AS. If i click on it, there is no prompt and if i make a change to my file
and close the file, the program will not prompt me to save the file before I close the program.

Both of those are in the required plugins folder on my system, and have the same date and version number (5.0.4.682), so you might want to check to be sure yours match.

  • InDesign CS3 will not open for second user

I am running InDesing CS3 on a iMac 10.4.11.  InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator all open for my admistrative user account.  I recently created a second user account  that is unable to open InDesign even though Photoshop and Illustrator open just fine.  I checked the permissions for all three programs and it appears that they are all set exactly the same.  Does anyone have any idea why I am only able open InDesign for my user account but not for this new user account.

  • After Effects CS3 will not launch in Windows 7

It appears to have installed properly and I even then installed the update.
But when I click the exe file to start the program, windows asks me if I want to run it... I say yes... then nothing...
If I go to my task manager, it shows it running under processes (but with a *32 after it which I assume means its running in 32 bit) but it is not on my applications list in the task manager.
Nor is it anywhere to be found on the task bar... I have waited a long time for it to launch and nothing...
    Any ideas?
It was installed from the CS3 Production Premium disks.
    Please help! And thanks!

I just got a windows 7 64bit machine and cs3 production installed without any problems.  So far I have to run AE in compatibility mode to avoid an error when starting up.  It says Please run this program from admin account so it can setup you license.  It shows the error twice then runs anyway.  I set it to compatibility for vista and no error appears.  I think it has something to do with the Media Core, since that's what displays just before the first error.
Could it be you're antivirus or firewall software interferring?  Just a guess.
