InDesign (CS3) with much newer InCopy
Aloha,
If a file is created in InDesign (CS3) and then sent to an editor who is using a much newer version of InCopy (CS6 or Newer)...once the file is saved by the editor, will the designer in CS3 be able to open the edited file?
They would be incompatible.

Printing problems with InDesign CS3 with Mac OS 10.6.3
I am not new to InDesign... I have CS3... but I am brand new to Mac Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.3). Although I can open CS3 and use the application, I cannot print with it. None of my other applications has printing issues... just CS3. Any suggestions?
RichardHi again Peter
It is version 5.0.4. I updated it when I newly installed it a week ago in my new computer, and then again updated it just yesterday.
I might mention that before I got my new computer, I was running Mac OS 4.11, and was using InDesign 3.0. I had bought InDesign CS3 about a year ago, but hadn't gotten around to using it since version 3.0 had been working fine, and I was used to it. Then, when I got my new computer, I decided it was time to use the newer version. However, while using InDesign 3.0 with the old Mac OS 4.11, a printing problem popped up there, too, a few months ago... and it also involved printing problems with Adobe Reader. I contacted Adobe, and they sent me a patch which fixed it. I will contact Adobe again if need be, although I thought I'd start here first to see if it was a common enough problem that someone might be able to provide a free and routine answer.

I neglected to ask what version of indesign CS3 you are using. I also
notice that Mac OSX 10.6.4 has just been released. It actually
addresses some CS3-specific issues, though they seem to be related to
launching the apps, not printing. It may be worth trying to update,
nonetheless.

Indesign CS3 with Powermath handling
Hi All,
I am opening a new topic reg. Indesign CS3 with Powermath Handling.
Our customer is very specific they want in Indesign CS3 and Powermath for Math handling.
We are automating a process of handling powermath equations in Indesign, since powermath has ASCII import and Export option.
We have created a .tbl file which will convert all the mathtype equations to powermath coding automatically, then we flow it in template and just select the text part and we call the powermath import option to convert all the equation in the document to actual, this process is success and its going smooth.
Now. The actual problem starts------------
Client needed XML deliverable, all the powermath equations they wanted TeX coding for XML deliverable.
So I thought that I will put this in this forum to get suggestion reg. this, all the equation and done in powermath with Indesign CS3,
We can export all the equation back to powermath ASCII, but how do I convert the powermath to TeX.
kavyaHi Kavya,
"We have created a .tbl file which will convert all the mathtype equations to powermath coding automatically,"
How you can created .tbl what it meant. -
Opening a MAC generated file of Indesign CS3 with a PC
I have a MAC generated .indd file (CS3) and cannot open it with my PC version of Indesign CS3. When I try to open the documennt the content manager pops up and says "Cannot open "file name" file" It gives a suggestion of updating to a newer version of Indesign, checking for updates, or updating plugins. Is there any way to open a MAC generated indd file on a PC? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Bob,
I actually have it in CS 2, 3, and 4, but all of those versions are created
on a MAC. I can have it created in any version, but I only have version
3.0.1 on my PC, which is the only computer I have Indesign on. I have also
tried opening it in an INX file, without any success.. Any suggestions?

Trying to install InDesign CS3 on a new PC with Windows 8.1.
I downloaded the Installer for CS3 and used the original disks. It appeared to successfully download but would not run. As mine was an upgrade version I did an Upgrade Check but could not get beyond the information required for a qualifying product. I previouisly used PageMaker 7.0 and this is not one of the listed choices. I used the Compatibility Troubleshooter and got an "incompatible program" response. This doesn't make sense given that there is an Installer for CS3. Any thoughts?
I entered the CS3 serial number. As it is a new computer I did not load the old PageMaker 7.0 program that I have not used for years. PageMaker is not listed as a qualifying program. I still have the disks and serial number for this program but there is nowhere to enter it. Given that there is an Installer for CS3 I assumed that I should be able to use the program. Is there any way around this?

I just bought a new computer running Windows 7. I installed Creative Suite 3 (I did have to uninstall my display driver to get it to install) and opened InDesign. When I open a new document, I can use some tools, but not others. For instance, I can use the frame tools and text tool, but I cannot use the select tool, and I cannot change the fonts, or other character attributes. I've run all of the updates through the Adobe Installer, but the program just is not behaving the way it should. I have deactivated it on my old XP computer, and really need to find an answer quickly as I am in the middle of a large project. Any advice?
aksnellYou'd be better off posting in the Indesign specific forum here, but for starters there's two common solutions, try this first and if that doesn't work try this.

Printing problem with new Intel iMac and Indesign CS3
Hi there,
this might not be the right place to ask for, but has anybody here experienced printing problems in Indesign CS3 with Tiger?
I just installed the software and tried to print out of Indesign, but nothing. I can see on the panel that data is beeing received but no printing action. And this is just out of the new Indesing CS3.
Any suggestions?
Best
RolfOur office is printing fine from ID & PS CS3. This is from Intel & PPC Mac's running 10.4.9.
What is your printer and how is it configured for printing, ie USB or IP.
Also, have a look at the cups error log. You can find this via System Profiler > Software > Logs. This will show which process is failing for the spooled job. You can post it back here for more help. -
Printing problems with InDesign CS3 running on OS 10.6
I recently upgrade my old G4 Mac (OS 10.4) to a new Mac Mini running OS 10.6.6. I am still running CS3 and have encountered only one problem. When I print multiple copies documents from InDesign that contain several layers, each copy is processed separately, so that it can take several minutes just to send the print job to the printer if I'm printing over 20 copies. Then once the print job is processed the printer pauses between every copy, which is tripling the printing time. If I print a simpler document with only one or two layers it processes all the copies at once, as it should. I am printing on an Okidata 6150 color laser printer.
I never had this problem on my old computer. I'm wondering if this is one of the "unsupported" bugs of running CS3 on Snow Leopard. I want to make sure that this is a problem unique to running CS3 with Snow Leopard before I go ahead and upgrade to CS4 or CS5.

InDesign CS3 hangs with colored spinball after start application
We have inhouse a big problem:
in different times hangs indesign CS3 with the color spinball. After the interruption of the application and restart we can see follow: when the app is up and we think, yes! we can work the spinball comes back and we can wait...if we wait to work after the restart 1-2 minutes the spinball comes for 20-30 seconds and then we can work without problems. As far as the next time (normally within 1 week...).
We have checked the switch, the cables. We have this problem also without network connection. And it reproducible on mac 10.4.x, 10.5.x, Windows XP and Vista. With versions 5.03 and 5.04.
What is this for a problem?
We have deleted all preferences and moved the plugins outside (we have 3 plugins: Softcare K4, Linotype Fontexplorer and Typefy): This problem is always here.
We are helpless. Can you us?
Thanks for a solution!
ZeljkoDid you also install any new fonts? That looks like a font error.

Incopy cs3 changes won't update to indesign cs3
Just the second time using incopy and indesign. First time, worked like a dream. Now the overall configuration is still the same but we have probs.
Changes made in indesign cs3 WILL update to incopy cs3
Any changes made to text in incopy cs3 do not update to Indesign.
I have checked folders permissions since incopy is on a pc and ind on a mac. Seems right from the mac side.
I am worried that I first saved the indesign document in a non shared folder, then realized my mistake and saved it in a shared folder. Could this be the problem?
I made assignments by exporting text and graphics.
We're on deadline and I'm going crazy.
Thanks for any help

InDesign CS3 incompatible with XP SP3, which will soon be an automatic update
A couple of months ago, after I had instability problems, I was advised by Adobe Support that Windows XP Service Pack 3, which I had installed, was not recommended for use with InDesign CS3. I am advised today that this is still the case.
This is now a critical situation for the many people who use Indesign CS3 with Windows XP. ComputerWorld reports this week that Microsoft has said that the SP3 upgrade will "shortly" no longer be optional, but will be forced on people as an automatic update.
I discussed this with Adobe Support today and was advised that I could turn off automatic Microsoft updates via the XP control panel. Well I knew that, but it is not a good option because it will turn off automatic updates of other important elements, such as security fixes.
This is a most unsatisfactory situation and Adobe has had plenty of time to sort it out. We need to know when a patch will be available and there should also be a system whereby Adobe can advise XP users when the patch comes available. And Adobe needs to get it's act together urgently, to produce the fix.Matthew - if you see no problem with the XP SP3/Indesign CS3 combination, why don't you tell your phone support people?
When I had my original problems, a large book design file was continually freezing. When I rang support (Asia-Pacific), I was told unequivocally that CS3 should not be used with XP SP3.
I rolled back my service pack upgrade and still had problems, so the problem may well have been some corruption that had entered my InDesign file.
However, with that book awkwardly cobbled together and out of the way, last week I rang Adobe support again, to see if any of the recent CS3 updates had made InDesign CS3 compatible with SP3 and again was told it wasn't. Their documentation said it was OK with XP SP2 and Vista, but not SP3.
This needs to be properly sorted out. -
Indesign CS3 text frame parameters and export PDF
could use some help with the following:
I need to edit and export a large number (7000) Indesign documents (one page)
1. check for locked text frames and unlock
2. group all text frames
3. set grouped text frames at x=8 millimeters, y 10 milimeters
4. export the documents to PDF in a subfolder called "Out"
5. save and close the documents in the same subfolder as an Indesign CS3 document (orig is CS2)
This is what I've been trying soo far:
Now only checking one text frame - should be all text frames
"close document 1 saving yes" doesn't work because the originals are from CS2
I get a PDF called "Adobe Indesign SC3"
set processFolder to choose folder with prompt "Choose a folder that contains Innd Docs to process"
tell application "Finder"
if not (exists folder "OUT" of processFolder) then
make new folder at processFolder with properties {name:"OUT"}
end if
set the destination_folder to folder "OUT" of processFolder as alias
end tell
tell application "Finder"
try
set listFiles to (files of contents of processFolder) as alias list
on error
set listFiles to (files of contents of processFolder) as alias as list
end try
repeat with thisFile in listFiles
tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
with timeout of 120 seconds
activate
set properties of view preferences to {horizontal measurement units:millimeters, vertical measurement units:millimeters, ruler origin:page origin}
open thisFile
set myDoc to document 1
set docName to name
tell myDoc
set transform reference point of layout window 1 to top left anchor
set myBox to text frame 1 of page 1
set properties of myBox to {locked:false}
move myBox to {8, 10}
end tell
export document 1 format PDF type to (destination_folder as string) & docName & ".pdf" using PDF export preset "[Drukwerkkwaliteit]" without showing options
close document 1 saving yes
tell application "Finder" to move thisFile to destination_folder with replacing
end timeout
end tell
end repeat
end tell
end
end
Any help is greatly appreciated - Doing this manually is a lot of work!!!!!
PeterYou're asking for the name of the application, not the document -- you need
to do it after your "tell myDoc".

You could also get the name from the alias you open, rather than the open
document, something like:

repeat with thisFile in listFiles
set oldDelims to AppleScript's text item delimiters
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to {":"}
set docName to text item -1 of (thisFile as Unicode text)
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to oldDelims

You should also move your "set properties of view preferences" line to after
your "tell myDoc".

--
Shane Stanley <[email protected]>

We have an issue with InDeisgn CS3 crashing on a regular basis randomlly 3-6 times per night while publishing a newspaper. The environment is a small newspaper. The affected systems are 5 editors iMacs running iOS 10.6.8 and 4GB RAM. They use InDeisgn, InCopy, and Photoshop at the same time along with Mediaspan Newsedit/IQue to access pages, and graphics/images are stored on a file server. They print to an HP Laserjet 5200 and a Sharp MX3100 copier. While they do get a few crahses on the large Sharp copier while pirint, they get many more crashes when printing to the HP Laserjet 5200. All 5 computers are clones, so they are all based on the same image and they all encounter crashes when printing, and while doing other things such as opening files.
This problem has been happening for the past 6-9 months, and I cant determine what may have changed to have caused it. I have already cleared the PPD's, as well as the crash recovery folders. I have ran DiskWarrior 4.3 on all of them as well as the normal Apple disk maintenance software. The Adobe Suite is CS3 with the latest service pack. I have recently ordered an addtional 4GB of RAM to bring thre of them from 4 to 8 GB in an attemtp to see if there is any difference in crashing.
I have many crash logs from both printing, as well as non printing. Because Printing is more of an issue and happens more than non printing, I will post the most recent printing crash log. I can follow up with a non printing crash log if that can help diagnose it better.
Thanks,

Thanks again for your help. This issue has been very random and has not led me to an actual issue to fix. We can have a could days good, and then we have a night or two where it crashes all night for different reasons with no consistancy or patterns to follow. -
Problem XML table in INdesign CS3 - coming in as tables not rows
hi
I am creating a pricelist in Indesign CS3 with xml
everyting is workin except when the xml imports it puts the data in seperate tables not in one table.
I have 5 colums in a table of 1 row.I select the table & tag it story, then select the row & tag it row.
i then select each column & tag itby the individual column names - ProductName, Description,etc
this matches the xml file structure eg

- <Root xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
- <Story>
- <Row>

<ProductName>Acacia acinacea</ProductName>
<CommonName>GOLD DUST WATTLE</CommonName>

Hardy small-medium shrub. Golden ball flowers August to December. Suitable for dry or moist soils, gravel or sandy soils. Frost tolerant.

</Row>
- <Row>

<ProductName>Acacia baileyana</ProductName>
<CommonName>COOTAMUNDRA WATTLE</CommonName>

Evergreen small tree with silvery grey foliage. Golden flowers in winter, young foliage purple

</Row>
</Story>
</Root>
the structure in the view panel is
Root
- Story
- Row
Category
ProductName
CommonName
Description
all the info comes in perfectly but it makes a separte table for each row rather than one table with a nmuber of rows of information
can anyone help pleaseHi Chook,
