Indesign CS4 button flashes after exported to PDF and viewed in Acrobat Reader/Professional X

Hey everyone,
Greetings!
I've encountered this odd problem when preparing my portfolio.
I've created some 40 buttons in InDesign CS4 (all according to the official tutorial) to Show/Hide Fields (specificly images), and navigate through the pages.
The buttons all have their own Normal and Rollover states, but no Click states.
After exporting the file to PDF, I tested the buttons in Acrobat Reader 9 and Acrobat Pro 9, and both the actions and the states worked fine.
BUT that's not the case with Acrobat Reader X or Acrobat Pro X.
The actions are still there, showing the images and navigating, but the states are not!
The buttons' rollover states just flashes when the mouse hover above them, and even in Normal state, they kept *blinking* randomly.
Frustrated for a week.
PS. I suspected and used a Indesign file with only one simple button to rule out the following:
1. Overlapping buttons
2. Slow processing due to large image size
3. Mishandling of transparency
At this moment I'm pretty sure it's an Acrobat thing...Help!

Thanks Dave! I was in the middle of writing this when your post came in:
Not sure if this will help anyone, but I changed the button fill color to white and it seemed to fix the flicker. I exported each state from indesign as a PDF and recreated the button from scratch. This still had the flicker. I'm guessing something strange is happening with the transparancy of the states.
Glad to hear it's fixed!

  • Indesign Loses Text Gradient After Export To PDF SWF

I have some Indesign files from a client and everytime I export from indesign to pdf and then convert to a swf, it removes the text gradient and adds black instead. Images attached for reference.
    <---PDF
    <---SWF
I've tried numerous export options. Is there something in particular that I'm supposed to be flattening?
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

Hi DesPro_7, Thank you! Your answer was very helpful, and it seems to solve one of my problems, which is the same as what Franklinsdictionary describes.
I have a design using gradients in text, including a gradient effect on a rule below, used as a banner behind my text. I'm losing the gradient when the PDF is converted to SWF, and while we're working on a way to export to SWF directly from InDesign, our current workflow is cropping and optimizing a printer PDF to convert to SWF.
Before InDesign CS5, we had little trouble with transparencies, but this became an issue on our projects using CS5 or above.
Part of the optimizing process includes flattening transparencies, but text with gradients doesn't seem to flatten, nor do my banners created using rule below behind the text.
Any idea why this seems to be an issue with text? Any insight might help!

  • Export in pdf: looks awful in Acrobat Reader

    Hello
I wanna do a simple 1024*768 pdf (from sources i use for iPad app made in Digital Publishing Suite)
WHen iI export in .pdf, there's no way (well, for me, so far) to get the pdf have the right size/dpi ratio than in my original innn document
my document is made for web,, my images as well (all 1024*768, full page)
when i open the pdf (i tried all possibilites in choices i'm given) it looks awful
the acrobat reader says it's 100%, but 100% of what ?
certainly not the100% from my original documlent, it opens way much bigger.
I't only looks good when it's on 66,7% on acrobat reader
    Anyone got a clue ?
    thanx !

You've set up at 1024 x 768 px doc size? Your PDF should also then have a 1024 x 768 size (it might read 14.22 x 10.66 inches in Acrobat since as far as ID is concerned, pixels = points). Have you scaled the images in ID?
well, when I export from indesign to pdf , i got the choice between "interactive" or "print", I chose interactive, and there's no way to set up anything else appart from   pages (all/specify) etc.etc.

  • Pattern swatches are shifting when exported to PDF and viewed in Preview/GoodReader

I've tried for days to find an answer to this question, but haven't succeeded. Please also be aware that I'm a self-taught Adobe Creative Suite user. I'm working on a Mac with CS6.
I work for a small publisher that produces knitting books. The problem is this: our tech editor has created charts in Illustrator using the pattern swatches feature. (These are knitting charts. Each square contains a pattern swatch representing the knitted stitch.)
I am then placing these charts in their native .ai format into an Indesign file and exporting them to PDF. In Acrobat, the charts look fabulous. In the Mac Preview reader and in GoodReader, the charts do this...
... the pattern swatches shift around inside their squares. Each of those dots should be centered inside their squares. In Preview, when I resize the application frame, the pattern swatches move as I re-size the frame. Any ideas about what might be happening here?
I've tried saving the charts as PDFs and placing those into the InDesign file. Doesn't help. Exporting the charts as images (jpg or tif) works, but I have to make the resolution/file size ridiculously large to get the quality of the vector image. I'd rather place the .ai files into the .indd file if possible.

Try using File>Object>Expand on a copy of the original before making the PDF for placing.

  • Exporting Newsletter (PDF) and viewing for Mac and PC Users?

    Hi,
I am trying to create a monthly newsletter for my business that can be sent on mass to various clients. Using pages, I save it as a PDF and when sent to MAC mail users, it appears in their inbox as a full 'page newsletter'.
PC users just get a pdf attatchment and no full page/email newsletter.
Being new to this and guessing its a cross platform issue, is there a way to make the newsletter appear in full in either 'inbox' or do I hav to go down the htm route?
    Thanks:)
    Mike

    I second Sagesse.
As far as I know, there is no problem with the PDF you are creating. Rather, the email client that a person uses to view your email.
Mail.app on the Mac, for instance, shows images, PDFs, and other media inline with the rest of the message. Other clients, particularly web-based ones, often show media separate from the message as an attachment.
Most companies and groups that send out newsletters via email do so with HTML and CSS, the same language as a normal web page. Pages no longer has the capability to export to HTML, but even if it did, the resulting files/code would likely look *a lot* different than you intended, due to the nature of a print document versus that of a web page.

  • Document Language not exported into PDF when viewed in Acrobat Pro 9?

I've been working on making our PDFs accessible, but it looks like the LiveCycle-generated forms are causing some issues. While I can set the Form Locale in LiveCycle ES (8.2.1), generating a PDF from this and viewing it in Acrobat Pro 9 leaves the Reading Language field greyed out. I'm new to LiveCycle, so it might be something simple (but I've tried Googling everything).
I've tried saving it as both a Static PDF and Dynamic XML PDF form without luck. The Generate Accessibility Information Save Option is checked. I am doing a Save As rather than in-app generation (I understand this can be the cause of some issues).
    Help!?

Unfortunately, as I mentioned in my original post, I've already tried toggling smoothing options. They don't make the jagged edges go away—they just change them slightly. In some cases, as with the sample file provided, it does help smooth the art out, but it never looks as good as it did going in, in a recent project, toggling smoothing options didn't affect the appearance of the image at all. Zoom does not appear to relieve the artifacting.
A little clarification: this PDF was created from a flat PNG, but I have had this issue with PNGs and TIFFs as well, generated by both Photoshop and Illustrator. To reiterate, the PDFs display fine in other software—Finder preview looks great, and the same file viewed in my browser via Google Drive looks as intended as well. A colleague was able to replicate this issue in Acrobat on his Windows machine. This appears to be a rendering issue specific to Acrobat with regards to the files I use it to create.

  • Export as PDF and viewing in full screen mode

Using LR 4.3, I'm exporting a slideshow to PDF.  Even though I turned off transitions in LR, the transitions automatcally start in Acrobat X in full screen mode.
My goal is to present ths slide show with a mouse click, or arrow key, to move to the next slide in full screen mode. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Yes, because Acrobat has its own transition  settings that take precedence over the settings in Lr.
    In Acrobat go >Edit >Preferences >Full Screen and under <Default Transitions> select <No Transition>.

  • Export to pdf and xls issue

    Hello All,
I have a button group to export to pdf and to Excel in a web template.
It worked fine the first time and on a second run it stopped working. Since then, I've tried everything (recreate the buttons, reboot..) and it just does not work.
Export to pdf gives me the parameters screen. I get a screen flash when I click OK and... nothing.
Export to Excel does not react at all. I also tried to export to Excel directly from the Analysis (built-in on right click) and it does not work.
    Anyone has an idea?
    Thanks

  • Indesign to PDF. Logo appears blurred after exporting to PDF.

I have a png and jpeg logo that appears fine in my indesign doc but when I export to PDF the image is blurred and has a white line around the logo edge as if the image is bleeding into the page.
The png and jpeg logo file (I have tried both versions) is 4x4 inches and 300 dpi. I am a loss at to what the problem is. I have tried smooth line art in the Adobe preferences.. but nothing works there.
Is there a standard setting for Indesign and Adobe (in terms of output) that would help resolve this issue.. ? Any ideas greatly appreciated...

Hi. Thanks for stepping in with some advice. I'm actually exporting at print quality so avoiding the low resolution pdf issue but the logo has a transparent background and is a png file. Would it help if I resaved it as a vector file? Any further advice would be welcome. It looks 100% fine in Indesign but just my exporting to PDF makes the logo look terrible. Thanks again..

  • Colored InDesign docs are wrongly being exported as black and white PDFS

    Hello Sirs/Madams,
I am a new user to InDesign.  I use InDesign CS4.
I have an .indd file that I created (simple, just text, nothing else).  I went to Windows -> Swatches and changed the color of the page to dark blue (modifying the RGB).  On screen, it looks EXACTLY like I want it.
But the problem is when I select File -> Export to PDF and I select ANY of the pdf profiles, it prints ONLY in black and white.  I have messed around with many options, including using the File -> Print option (to Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional BTW) and it *still* creates a black and white pdf!!!
What am I doing wrong? Please can you help me?
All I want is that whatever colors I can see on the screen should be in the PDF, including the document/page area, which I set via the Swatches window.  I apologize if its simple enough but please provide a measure of leeway considering I am taking baby steps here...
    Thank you in advance.

The paper swatch is for preview on screen only and is intended to allow you to see how your document will print on colored paper. If you want to print a solid background you'll need to draw a frame and fill it with that color.

  • InDesign Export to PDF and PDF Destinations/Bookmarks

    Hello all,
I am new to this forum and am not sure where the most appropriate location for this question is. But, here goes:
We are adding Bookmarks to an InDesign Doc then exporting it to a PDF. In the Acrobat Reader and the IE Acrobat reader the bookmarks work just fine. Here his where the problem is. I have to link to the PDF's bookmarks from a web page. I have come to find out that I can't link directly to a bookmark but I have to link to a "Destination."
The PDF Exporter or InDesign adds a Destination name that is not the same as the bookmark name. It includes the indd file name and the part of the sentience that the book mark is next to.
I have used Adobe Acrobat Professional to create a custom Destination that is one word without spaces. I am able to link to that destination but I can't link to any of the destinations that either InDesign or the PDF exporter created.
Does anyone know how to force the Destinations names to be set to the name of the bookmark that is being mapped to it? Or, how to link to a bookmark name rather then a Destination.
I have also did some searching for some VB to Acrobat scripting and found that I can't edit Destination names.
This is for an on going project that is sure to have a lot of updates. We do not want to have to goto Acrobat and fix the Destinations by hand for every update. Plus, we don't want to link to the page number because we are never sure when pages will change and again do not want to always fix the PDF or HTML index page every time.
    Thank you for your time,

Michael, I've got one solution that meets my needs but maybe only part of your needs:
    Buy AutoBookmark from Evermap:  http://www.evermap.com/autobookmark.asp#Creating%20Destinations%20From%20Bookmarks
It's a plugin to Adobe Acrobat (not Reader), but it works only in MS Windows, not Mac.
After you've installed that plugin, Acrobat's Plug Ins menu has a Destinations menu item with some choices you're going to use.
Open with Acrobat, the PDF file that has the destination names that have that bothersome <filename>.indd prefix.  Use the Plug Ins > Destinations menu's item to export the destinations as a plain text file.
Edit the resulting plain text file with any plain text editor.  Globally search and replace the filename prefix with nothing.  Save and close that file.
Back in the Acrobat window of your PDF file, use the Destinations menu's choice to delete all destinations.
Now use the Destinations menu to import the destinations file you just edited.
    Voila.
BUT the part of your problem that this won't solve, is the presence of a portion of the sentence in the destination.  That's not a problem for me, because I'm creating all my destinations as parts of the sentence.

  • Indesign CS4 freezes when I export to InCopy CS4 or when I update an InCopy File

Indesign CS4 freezes when I export to InCopy or when I update an InCopy CS4 File. I have done some of the troubleshooting steps already and have already re-installed and re-updated through Adobe Updater. But the problem still exists. Anyone have any patches or fixes? Or have had the same issue and fixed it?

I am having the same issue with Flash CS4. Did you find a solution?

  • Image looks different in Acrobat after exporting to PDF

I just created an image in InDesign. I exported it as a PDF and viewed it in Acrobat. There are two things going on here that I'm not sure about. First of all, there appears to be a broken edge on the right side of the image when viewed in Acrobat. I took a screen shot of each image. In the first image (Acrobat), you can see the line break. In Indesign, which is the second image placed into this thread, there is no line break. I checked Indesign for any shapes or images that I may have missed that might be hanging around obstructing the edge, but there was nothing there.
Another issue I'm having is that the black seems to be faded in the Acrobat image. See how it is that nice stark dark black in my screen shot from Indesign? Is this happening because the original image (created in Photoshop) doesn't use rich black? The black in the photoshop image is 76, 71, 65, 81 in CMYK. If this is the problem, could I convert it to rich black somehow in Photoshop or InDesign?
    Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the black issue is your settings for Appearance of Black in the preferences. The CMYK numbers you gave us earlier correspond to an RGB black in the range of the low 30s in all channels, which is a smewaht graysish balck, and would be a very good RGB approximation of 100% K.
I'll bet if you look at the setting for Appearance of Black it's set to Display all Blacks as Rich Black which gives you a false impression of darkness for 100% K. Black ink alone looks faded, or gray, next to a rich black with a high K component. In the screen captures below, there are three overlapping squares. Upper left is filled with 100% K, middle with the RGB conversion of 100% K in my color settings (GRAcol and Adobe RGB), and the lower right is filled with your 76, 71, 65, 81 mix. The only differntence is that on the top the Prefs are set to display blacks accurately, and on the bottom they're set to display as rich black:
