Indesign CS4 colour issues with Onyx 7.3 RIP

Hi all. I understand that Onyx Production house and postershop are having problems with colours dropping to white or changing to a completely different colour when sent from Indesign CS4 or a PDF created from the programme. I want to swap to indesign completely, but find myself having to go back to Quark, because the results I get in the rip from indesign files are so random. Has anyone found a solid work around?
Thanks in advance for your help

InDesign can often send more complex postscript than the other apps, it is after all, dealing with a lot more types of information all at the same time. The problem comes in when ID invokes a part of the Postscript standard that hasn't been properly implemented in the RIP.
As you've seen, a workaround that commonly is successful is to export, or even print, to PDF, and sned tot he RIP from Acrobat.

  • InDesign CS4 Printing issue

    Hi:
I use InDesign CS4 in my job as a church office manager. I print bulletins that are usually 3 letter-sized pages, landscape, 2-sided, and newsletters that are 2 11x17 pages, landscape, 2-sided. I'm working in Mac OS 10.5.8.
Until today, I was using a fairly old HP 8100dn printer. When I upgraded from CS3 to CS4 last summer, I found a strange thing: I couldn't print duplex on letter-sized paper from InDesign. No matter what settings I selected, the printing would not duplex. As a workaround, I had to export everything as a PDF and print from Acrobat, where the duplexing worked fine.
Weirdly, 11x17 duplex printing worked correctly from InDesign.
I never solved the problem, but when I posted this on the forum last summer, one responder said that it might have had something to do with the 8100's age and its PostScript Level 2 emulation.
Just today, my office got a new(er) printer, an HP 8150dn. This one has PostScript Level 3 emulation.
Precisely the same problem. Letter-sized won't duplex from ID; 11x17 will. Exporting letter-sized documents to PDF and printing from Acrobat is once again the workaround. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it is a bit of a hassle.
Does anyone have any sort of idea about why this is happening, or better, how it might be fixed?
    Thanks much,
    GT
PS: ID won't duplex when printing in portrait orientation on letter-sized paper, either.
Message was edited by: It doesn't work!

Well, I fixed it, I think… I googled "Printing issues in Mac OS," which led me to install Gutenprint 5.2.5 — whatever the heck that is — and suddenly duplex printing worked in both landscape and portrait on letter-sized paper.
Unfortunately, and yet not at all surprisingly, I now couldn't print to 11x17 at all. No matter what I did, the printer used Tray 2 (letter), or told me to put custom paper in Tray 1.
So, as a last-ditch attempt to resolve this before I jumped off the roof, I reset the printer to its factory defaults and deleted all traces of it from Mac OS's Printer and Fax window.
Then I created one new printer called "8150 (Gutenprint)" using the Gutenprint driver, and one called "8150 (11x17)" using the default HP driver, both using the same IP address. Lo and behold, when I select the one, I can print duplexed on letter size, and when I select the other, I can do the same on 11x17.
I don't know if this is the sort of thing that a real tech-head would condone, but it finally seems to work. Since I'd never be printing to both printers simultaneously, I figure I can live with this.
If anyone cares to explain to me in layman's terms what Gutenprint is all about, I'd love to be educated…

  • InDesign CS4 Transparency Issue

    Hi,
I'm using InDesign CS4 (6.0.3) on a Mac running OS10.6, and I'm having a problem with exporting transparencies to PDF. I view the transparency with Overprint Review, and it's fine, but it doesn't show up in Acrobat (9.1.3 Pro) at all. I can't send it to my client as-is, unfortunately.
I've tried exporting different settings and different resolutions. I've tried restarting the program and my computer, I've tried viewing the PDF with Overprint on in Acrobat, I've searched the forums and googled the problem, but I can't seem to find an answer.
I've been using InDesign for years, and have created many transparencies including with this version, but I've never had this problem before. I suspect this might be a Snow Leopard Issue, but I'm curious if anyone else has run into this or has any other ideas.
    Thanks

    Thanks George,
Unfortunately, the transparency is white, and multiply won't work for that--white/light colors disappear under that setting. I did try it with screen and overlay settings, as well as normal, and had the same results. I also dialed back the transparency to 99% (from 50%), but got the same result. Only when I took the transparency off completely (100%) did the box appear again in the PDF.
In MY view of the PDF anyway, apparently, on a PC it's fine.

  • InDesign PDFs colour issue

I'm trying to create a pdf for display on the iPad using InDesign CS4 but the colours are all wrong. The InDesign file is for printing but we also want to show clients on the iPad and get the colours as close to the printed versions as possible.
Does anyone know what colour settings to use in InDesign when creating a pdf? We've had a play with the colour output settings when creating the pdf with some success. What should the settings for 'Colour Conversion', 'Destination', 'Profile Inclusion Policy' & 'Ink Manager' be?
    Any help would be useful.

You actually don't have to convert the color in Acrobat - you just have to export it from InDesign correctly.
When you use Pantone colors, they do not contain RGB definitions that are embedded within the document. Therefore when you use Pantone or CMYK colors, if you do not export correctly they will be way off.
When you export your document from InDesign to a PDF, select the "Output" tab and choose "Convert to destination". Then set the destination to Adobr RGB 1998. Make sure that "Include destination profile" is selected.
Normal computer monitors have a wider latitude and will display a range of color profiles in a way that is closer to the original, but the iPad is different. While bitmap files such as photos display properly, the color conversion in vector-based files is off.
My theory so far is that maybe the iPad is not allocating memory to handle the color conversion that a computer does because of limited memory resources. I'm looking into it... stay tuned.

  • Indesign CS4 really slow with CMYK images

Can anyone help me solve this? InDesign CS4 document with a few pages, and approx 24 images on a page. With CMYK images imported the rendering and re-rending is very sluggish. The Processes shows 99% usage for InDesign. Makes it almost impossible to work on a document.
    Any ideas to fix this?
    I'm using an 27" iMac with 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 - Memory: 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Doesn't surprise me. I find getting help in Adobe forums/support/community very confusing to find my way around.

  • Adobe CS4 OpenGL issues with 10.6.2 and Intel GMA950 video card

I just upgraded to Adobe CS4 and in PS I cannot enable OpenGL. I'm running 10.6.2 on a Macbook with the Intel GMA950 video card.
I was wondering if 10.6.2 does not have the relevant drivers for CS4 to recognize this chipset or that since the video card is integrated (as opposed to a stand alone with the newer Macbooks) that Intel has not update the drivers? It ***** since I cannot use some functions inside PS without OpenGL.

Hello blue20 & welcome to discussions
1.) You can search these forums for the topic of:
    Adobe CS4 GMA950
As an example, if you haven't already, in an effort to parse what's already been discussed.
2.) Have you looked at any of the Adobe forums:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2356530
3.) How many fonts are you working with?
The general approach at this time is to ask if you've checked for any problematic fonts (all languages) with Apple's Font Book (look in the Applications folder). Find and remove all duplicates also.
Start there to be sure all fonts that are in play come out with a clean bill of health.
Don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from Office 2008, including those related to an Equation Editor installation.
By all means be sure any 3rd party apps AND plug-ins are Snow Leopard compatible.
An additional measure is to clear the existing font caches:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/139383/2009/03/fontcacheclear.html
That said, 10.6.2 release notes have this to say about fonts:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3874
    Fonts fixes provided for:
    • an issue with font spacing
    • an issue in which some Fonts are missing
    • font duplication issues
    • an issue with some PostScript Type 1 fonts not working properly
    Good luck in any case.

  • InDesign CS4/ InCopy issue

Hi, I have a question regarding an issue I am having.
I'm currently working on a book and I have the chapters saved as multiple indesign files (one file per chapter) they are set up for editing in InCopy as well. There have been changes inserted into InCopy from an external source and I have re styled the changes in InDesign CS4 (overset text, font issues, layout changes, etc) and saved them. The files haven't been touched in a week and when I go to open them now none of the changes I have made are there. I've checked the stories folder and for a few chapters there seem to be a conflicted copy of some of the icml files. I am just curious if anyone has experienced a similar issue and if it is possible to avoid having to go back and make all the changes again.
    Thanks

Hi, it sounds like you might have either not saved the changes that you made, or that you saved a vision of your work that InDesign is not linking to.
Have you made sure to update the links inside of InDesign?

  • Confusing Colour Issues with 3 camera shoot. Please help

    Hey Everybody,
I have had to re-register, so this looks like my first post!
There is a colour issue which is seriously baffling us, we shot a fighting event with a 3 camera shoot. 3 Days, and on all 3 days the cameras seem to have produced different colour outputs dispite being on the same setting. Can anybody shed any light on how to match the colours here. All settings on the cameras were the same, so we are surprised that the footage has come out differently. The following day the footage from all 3 cameras were indentical. However this is the footage produced from the first shoot
We have tried bightness/contrast, levels, fast colour correction, Colour Balance and CB_HLS and still can't get the footage to match.
While it would appear there might be a slight hint of over exposure when we take the brightness right down, there is hardly any highspots.
If there is no solution for us to do, is there anybody who we could send a short clip, have them correct it and we can duplicate to the rest of the shots? If so what kind of expense do you think that would incur?
    Thanks in advance

its important to use the same exact cameras on multi camera shoots. also important to take color meter and see what the lights give you. sodium vapor and tungsten and flourescent all need different " color correction" gels to make them equal 32k or 56k .. and its not just orange and blue correction ...its also green and magenta etc...
professionally , you cant do all that at the " lens " with cc filters..you need to actually get to the lights physically ( with scissor lifts or cranes ( manlifts ) and gel the lights too ).
Once you have your lights corrected and ready to shoot...all cameras need to shoot "color swatches - usually Kodak .. with a single light source that equals what your camera is set to ( color temp )...and that is used to get your balance correct in post.
That said it sounds like you are screwed...
To have someone try to correct that professionally would cost more than you can afford, or you would have used that " money " to correct your color etc in the beginning... in other words, if you could afford to send everything to a pro lab and try color correcting all that stuff, you wouldnt have this problem to begin with IMO.
    My suggestion:
Since wrestling is a gritty sport and " manly " and full of emotion that is basically " tough " and " hard " ....trash the color altogether and make everything black and white... maybe increase your contrast a tiny bit ...or maybe add a slight " tone " to it....( not sepia which looks just " old " , but maybe slight blue tint ? ) ...something to make it look as gritty and hard as you can...
Then tell client you did it on purpose !  Is part of your concept to begin with... wow them with your creativity !

  • Photoshop CS4 Extended, issues with resolution and font sizes on Mac

I have Photoshop CS4 Extended, which worked fine on my old 15 inch Macbook Pro, I think it was 2011 and had high definition display.
I now have a new 15 inch 'late 2013' Macbook Pro with retina display (2880 x 1800), and OS 10.9.4
    I have 2 problems:
    1) Using photoshop now, the resolution is a lot worse than with my old computer, even though my screen is higher resolution.
For example, the images themselves are worse resolution on my display, far less crisp and more pixelated than any of my other programs. And even the windows such as 'save as...' screens are terribly pixelated also. Is there a way to fix this?
    2) When using the type tool, I cannot find how to change the size of the font. There used to be numbers which I could change, and also select the font type, both on the top menu bar always visible. Now there is not anymore. What there is there at the top, is what looks to be a bar on top of another bar. The top layer bar is on the left and reaches about one third of the way across the top, and I can drag it by its corner so it can extend more, but not less. It looks like there are things behind it which I cannot see, because it is over the top of them. Perhaps the text size and font options are stuck behind that. What can I do?
    Many thanks!
    Justin

Hi JJMack, you said "Seems like you want a low resolution display hook and external display to it." I do not know what that means. I did a google search for "low resolution display hook" and it came up with zero results. Also I do not have an external display, only my laptop.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this issue? I would greatly appreciate any solution.
    Thank you!

  • Colour issue with 'Save for Web' - Photoshop Elements 6 (Mac)

Cross posted here, but no answer so far. Sorry for cross posting. For me, this is urgent, but I know it's not for anyone else, so apologies for putting 'urgent'.
    http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/images-graphic-design-digital-photography/150670-colour-i ssue-save-web-photoshop-elements-6-a.html#post840419
This is a similar issue to this:
    Save for web color issue
Except the user who posted the above was using photoshop cs3, and I'm using Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.
When I work on a photo, I get it just right, then go to Save for Web, and the original it previews is loads lighter than the orginal I was working on in the first place. See 'Picture 1' attachment.
I have changed the colour settings on the Save for Web options - I've chosen each one in turn, and none fix the problem.
There seems to be no similar option in PSE6 to this that fixed it in CS3:
IN the save for web box there is a small round button with an arrow in it (near the Done button).
In the list when this button is pressed deselect Convert to sRGB
I used to use PSE2 on a PC, and never had this problem. I didn't need to mess about with colour profiles or anything similar on the PC. The original was the original, not a washed out version of the original. Why spend ages getting the file just right, only for Save for Web to screw it up?
Any advice to fix this would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks very much for your reply.
    I've uploaded the images here:
    http://jimpix.co.uk/images/Picture 1.jpg
    http://jimpix.co.uk/images/Picture 2.png
I deleted the prefs. file you suggested, and then opened PSE6.
I then tried the profile setting you suggested - but it's not an option:
    http://jimpix.co.uk/images/Picture 3.png
I tried 'remove profile' just in case that worked, but the same effect happens on Save for Web.
Not sure what to try next!

  • Aperture 3.3 colour issues with DNG

I have recently been working in a combination of Adobe Lightroom 4.1, Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Aperture 3
To maximise (or so i thought) compatibility I have been importing my RAW files using Lightrooms "Copy as DNG" option.
All has been going well, except that I have noticed some wild colour distortions for some of these files.
Adobe products do not appear to exhibit this problem, nor does Picassa, but certain purple hues shift to deep blue in Aperture once it generates its preview of the DNG.
I have updated to Aperture 3.3 today and the same issue is present, even on newly imported files.
Has anyone else seen this issue?

Can anyone enlighten me of the circumstances when this would be of concern?
If you had to do high quality printing larger than 8x10.
Before buying PSE trial Pixelmator and try GIMP. Note that GIMP (now v2.6) will have 16-bit per channel with v3.0.

  • Cs4 install issues with windows 8

I am having problems installing masters 4 on my new laptop with windows 8 it does not have a dvd player, after days of downloading from your cs4 page i gave up from the errors and went and bought a DVD player to use my discs from adobe... I can get it to open ask if i want to install which I say yes it Starts to run then stops... I have turned off the processes in windows clean booted and same thing.
So after weeks of frustration how do you declaring i install my product?
To avoid this with lightroom i bought just weeks ago i upgraded to the new one to avoid this exact same thing. Amazingly it worked fine after i paid for the new version...
I do not need the upgrades... cs4 does what I need it to do just fine for when i need to use it i mostly use lightroom for work and photoshop and illustrator or every great now and then one of the others in the collection.
This is very frustrating and swaying my client loyalty...
So where can you direct me to directions to install my programs please?
This is preventing me from working.

CS4 was never tested on Win 8 or developed with it in mind. Compatibility issues are to be expectred. Provide exact system info and the install logs:

  • InDesign CS2 printing issue with 10.6

I've just got my ir C2880 printing thanks to help on another thread but...
Printing from InDesign CS2 to this printer I am getting an error message:
Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem.
    Any hints?

As others have stated - This is a problem with 10.6.5 overwriting boot.efi (Which PGP modified in 10.0.0 and above with pgpboot.efi).
This is a fairly easy fix, and was provided in the PDF cited above. For those that don't want to wait, here are the instructions provided:
*1. Insert your Mac OS X CD.*
*2. Boot to your Mac OS X CD.*
*3. Do not install Mac OS X; instead, from the Utility Menu, select "Terminal."*
    *4. Type the following command: +diskutil list+*
You will need to note the disk identifier for the boot partition for your system disk. The boot partition is named "Boot OSX" and is the partition immediately following your system disk. For example, if your system disk is disk0s2, you should find a boot partition with the name "Boot OSX" with the identifier disk0s3.
*5. Type the following command: +diskutil mount <bootpartition>+*
*Where <bootpartition> is the disk identifier you learned from issuing the previous command. This will mount the boot partition for your system disk.*
    Example:
    Diskutil mount disk0s3
Note: You may need to take note of certain disk information during this
process, so PGP Corporation recommends having writing materials available
    to you before you begin.
*6. Navigate to the CoreServices boot directory. This directory is located at the following path: +cd "/Volumes/Boot OSX/System/Library/CoreServices"+*
*7. Copy pgpboot.efi to boot.efi. To do this, type the following command:*
    *+cp pgpboot.efi boot.efi+*
*8. Select Terminal > Quit Terminal.*
*9. Select Installer > Quit and choose to restart.*
You should now see the PGP passphrase prompt and if you successfully enter your passphrase, your system will boot correctly.

  • InDesign CS4 locks up with "out of memory" dialogue

I'm running Windows 7 on a new computer with beaucoup RAM and memory . . . no way in the world we're out of space here.  This window pops up and even if I click "ok" it keeps returning and I have to end the program through the task manager to get out of it.  What's going on here?  This is a new issue; I've been running inDesign on this system for several months with several huge files in production at once and many other programs in the background (like Photoshop and Access, etc.) and havehad  no difficulties.
The only thing that is new is that I've installed a new WD external hard drive to run backups, and my old Lacie external is now mounted internally as a slave.  These changes should not be affecting inDesign . . . should they?
    What's going on?
    Thanks for any help,
    writerpamela

The problem you are experiencing unfortunately has nothing to do with the amount of physical memory in your system, its hardware configuration, or the OS version you are running. You could be running Windows 7 64-bit with 24GB of memory and the same problem will occur.
The out of memory message typically means that some internal tables within InDesign's own memory space and/or that of its Adobe Core Technology components have reached capacity. You are much more likely to see this message if you are editing very long and/or graphically complex documents and page through the entire document and/or do many edits without saving the document (use "save as" to be safe), exiting InDesign, and then restarting InDesign and continuing editing of the document in question. Exiting and restarting InDesign clears the memory problem. FWIW, I've seen this problem the most when attempting to export PDF from some long, complex documents. My workaround is to save the document, exit InDesign, restart InDesign, open the document and without paging through any of the document (other than the currently displayed page, obviously), immediately initiating the PDF export process.

  • Indesign cs4 printing issues

i have recently connected my imac to magicolor 2550 and have been trying to print indesign file. Printing does happen but with so many text characters missing. Image is ok. If i converted it to a pdf files the printing is ok. previous to 2550 i had 2450 and with this the printing of indesign file was ok. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Try this: go into the print driver (the "Setup..." button at the bottom of InDesign's print dialog box) and set your custom paper size there. Then, back in the InDesign dialog, set the Paper Size to "Defined By Driver."
