Indesign CS4 freezes when I export to InCopy CS4 or when I update an InCopy File

Indesign CS4 freezes when I export to InCopy or when I update an InCopy CS4 File. I have done some of the troubleshooting steps already and have already re-installed and re-updated through Adobe Updater. But the problem still exists. Anyone have any patches or fixes? Or have had the same issue and fixed it?
I'm working on a Power Mac G5 with OSX version 10.4.11

I am having the same issue with Flash CS4. Did you find a solution?

  • CS4 freezes when editing audio.

    Hello All,
I have a client that has a workstation that freezes when she edits audio in CS4.  I have seen it happen and what it does is it keeps playing the audio but Adobe CS4 freezes until the audio is done playing or when she kills CS4.  I have reinstalled Adobe CS4, talked to Adobe technical support, reloaded her workstation with Vista 64 bit, put in another hard drive for the page file, and ran through every troubleshooting document I could find on the forums and Adobes website.  Her workstation is a Core2Quad 2.4GHz and 4GB of ram with Vista 64 bit.
This is an on-going issue that needs to be solved ASAP and any help would be appreciated from other users.  I do not want to resort to calling Adobe technical support as I was not satisfied with their knowledge of their product.
    Thank you,
    Brian
Edit:  Harm Millaard chime in if you have any suggestions.  You seem to be very helpful on these forums.  Also, you have a very impressive computer setup and props to you for putting it together.

While I feel that the Assets, or the Project, are probably the culprits here, you might want to look over this ARTICLE on "tuning up" one's NLE computer. Might be something useful in it - if not now, then for later.

  • Flash crash when i export my animation as a video and get stuck at 64%

When i export my animation for a video it makes a swf file but it renders till 64% and get stuck and flash freeze and close, how can i fix this?

When you select to use RAM or disk to render with, if you're using RAM try selecting to use DISK instead and make sure you have enough space available for the final file. If you're exporting anything near HD size with no compression then you should have potentially hundreds or thousands of GIGS available for your animation.

  • Acrobat XI moving headings when I export

I just upgraded from Acrobat X to XI Pro. I'm working on a couple documents, and now when I export them to PDF from Word, some of the headings are getting moved around. It seems that when there's a Heading 3 in the Word doc, that heading gets moved down to the next element, which should be Normal, when I export.
This was not happening when I was exporting the same documents with Acrobat X. A colleague who is also using XI Pro is not having this issue, but we're using different versions of Word (I have 2013; his is earlier). Any ideas?

I am going from Word to PDF. We have Acrobat 11.0.9 and got the same problem when trying:’
    ·         Creating PDF via the Acrobat tab in Word:
    ·         Printing to PDF in Word:
    ·         Creating PDF using “Save as…” in Word
    ·         Opening Acrobat, using the Create> PDF from file
All alternatives gave the same problem. The funny thing was that it only affected Heading 3.
I did a workaround by saving in old Word format (.doc)
    Any tips?

  • Having difficulty with quality when I export to iTunes

    My faithful GB geniuses:
I've been using GB for quite some time now and have not had much trouble when it comes to sound quality. I know that when you export to iTunes, it mixes down your song to a file with the resolution of 44.1 kHz at 16 bits (I may even be confused here -- no matter, these numbers mean little to me since I do not fully understand sample rates, etc).
Anyway, I have this song that has eleven MIDI/Software Instrument tracks and six Real Instrument tracks (5 guitars, one bass). It sounds great when I playback the GB file, during editing. Then, when I Export it to iTunes, there is one guitar (a lead guitar with Amp Simulator, Distortion, and Echo effects added) that comes out sounding like utter crap. When it comes in, the entire file sounds crackly and awful. The guitar drops in volume, and also quality.
Up until the distorted guitar track comes in, the song sounds fine. So it's not the other 5 guitars that's doing it. Does my problem have to do with the fact that the lead guitar has too many effects on it for GB to handle? But no, this can't be right because when I play the GB file, it sounds studio-quality. When I export to iTunes, it sounds like somebody is slowly murdering a cat.
Also, I went into iTunes prefs and changed the "Importing" settings to "Highest Quality", and it did not make it any better. If this problem can be remedied through some simple changes in iTunes Importing prefs, can somebody briefly explain to me how to do so?
Thank god I have you guys. Help me out! On a side note, what's with all these people complaining about how hard GB is to use? With the exception of my case, in which I think I'm trying to push the bounds of what GB can accomplish, GB is ridiculously easy to navigate.
On another side note, check out my songs that HAVE come out successfully, quality-wise!: www.soundclick.com/dijitel.
Thanks in advance for your help, guys.
    dijitel.

    Thanks for the input, AppleGuy.
It seems my initial problem was that I had the EQ on some setting on iTunes by accident, and that was affecting how some GB songs sounded once they were exported. Then I tried locking the tracks (all of them actually), and doing it again, and that didn't seem to make much of a difference since I had already solved the problem.
But that's an interesting point -- what sort of effect does locking the tracks have on how they sound once they're exported to iTunes? Should I lock all of the tracks now before I export?
Any other basic tips on getting the absolute best quality possible out of a song that has a lot of real instrument tracks is welcomed. Thanks again for your help.

  • File size increases when I export from iphoto

I was hoping someone could help me.  When I export an event from iphoto it increases in size and is now too big for my dvd.  In iphoto, the size is 5.9 GB, but then when I export (settings as follows:  JPEG - Max. - Full Size ) the file is too big to burn on my DVD-RDL (8.5GB)
It goes from 5.9 to 10.48 GB.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
I'm Serious about Back Ups. And you should be too.
My Library lives on my iMac. It’s Backed up to  two external hard disks every day. These disks are permanently attached to the iMac. These back ups run automatically. One is done by Time Machine, one is a bootable back up done by SuperDuper
It’s also backed up to a portable hard disk when ever new photos are added. This hard disk lives in my car. For security, this disk is password protected.
I have a second off-site back up at a relative’s house across town. That’s updated every 3 or 4 months.
My Photos are backed up online. There are many options: Flickr, Picasa, SmugMug etc. However, check the terms of your account carefully. While most sites have free uploading, you will often find that these uploads are limited in terms of the file size or the bandwidth you can use per month. For access that allows you to upload full size pics with no restrictions you may need to pay.
Every couple of months I test the back ups to make sure they are working correctly. It’s very easy to mis-configure a back up application, and the only way to protect against that is to do a trial restore.

  • Aperture... how do I get my new iMac to notify me when my export is complete?

Hello! I've been an Aperture user for years. I just loaded it onto my new iMac (with Lion) and notice that it no longer notifies me when my exports are finished. The Aperture icon  used to hop up and down along with a button would appear that told me the export was complete. I also notice the folders with my images no longer tell me how many images are in the folder. Any clues? Can't find a thing in my preferences to fix this. Thanks for any help you can offer.

In Aperture 3.2.2, the option to alert when the export is complete is available when you are choosing the export destination (the box will stay checked for future exports):
You can see how many items are in a folder or album or project either by hovering over folders albums and projects in the sidebar, or by choosing the option to display the number of items in Preferences > Appearance:

  • How can I make hyperlinks work in InCopy when I export to PDF without using InDesign?

I created an InCopy document with hyperlinks linking to other InCopy documents. When I exported to PDF, these hyperlinks don't work. Is there any way I can make these hyperlinks work without using InDesign? Thanks.

If it's for the web, why not export to JPEG?  Why PDF?
Terrible idea. In a JPG the text will not be alive, you loose all interactivity.
And making JPGs with InDesign is not what the program is meant to make.

  • InCopy CS4 (PC) / InDesign CS4 (mac) not working

My client and I are trying to establish an InCopy CS4 (PC) / InDesign CS4 (Mac) workflow. Neither of us has ever used InCopy and we are all getting frustrated now that our first production cycle has come and gone and the client is not recouping the money they invested on this software. Our trial system was successful for awhile and then it just stopped. The client says she can't open the icma/icml files and they need the indd file. So I send a new batch of files with the indd included and still no luck.
I'm saving the assigments like I've been saving in our initial trial run. In ID I go to Incopy > Export > Add all Stories to Assignment. That creates the content folder and the .icma files. I zip everything and send it off via email attachment.
Is there something I am doing wrong? Something my client needs to do? I prefer not to have to send the indd file. Should I have to do that for them to edit in Incopy? I appreciate any advice. Thank you.  Lynn

Don't zip the files, that won't work.ID/IC is meant to work on a local server w/local staff. For a remote workflow you have to use a special technique.
After you create the assignment, use the Package for InCopy command in the Assignments panel. That creates an ICAP file that you send to the client.
When the double-click the ICAP file, it unpacks (it's like a zip file) on their computer and the assignment opens in InCopy. They work on the stories, and when they're done, they use the Return for InDesign command in *their* Assignments panel menu. That creates an IDAP file that they send to you.
When you open the IDAP file, it unpacks, looks for the INDD file (be sure not to rename or move it in the meantime), and updates the stories w/the editors changes.
Those are the broad strokes. It's covered more thoroughly in the online help file of both ID and IC ... you *and* your client should read up on it. And I cover it very thoroughly (4 videos ... Chapter 15) in my online Lynda.com tutorial on the CS4 workflow:
    http://www.lynda.com/home/DisplayCourse.aspx?lpk2=651
(Chapter 15 isn't one of the freebie chapters, but you (or anyone) can use my 24-hour free pass for full access to their entire training library: http://lynda.com/freepass/amconcepcion)

  • Incopy CS4 (mac) - when closing file, changes are not saved

I have a CS4 Indesign document with assignments saved. When the editor works on the file, she is able to save as she goes, however gets a dialogue box about how we are trying to save over an older file with the options 'submit changes, discard changes and I think one other option'.
When 'submit changes' is clicked we re-open the file and find that the changes have not been saved.
We don't understand why we would receive that message since we are hitting save as changes are done while working on the file.
The odd thing is that it doesn't happen on all files. And the dialogue box doesn't always show up.
One thing to note is that we recently changed from a CS2 workflow that we've been using successfully for a few years. Ie. without that particular dialogue box showing up or any save issues.
    thanks all!

Lr & Photoshop both have the potential to use tiny (xmp) files for storing changes (and never save any other files), and both can save/export big honkin' tiffs, or like-sized jpegs...
If you save files in Photoshop with layers and such stuff, the files can get pretty big.
So, to answer your question: "It depends..." - which files, how saved/exported...
Try some stuff and inspect the file sizes!

  • When I export InDesign file to pdf, my graphics are negatives.

I'm using Adobe CS4 and I've got greyscale photoshop elements in the layout.  When I export to pdf, for some reason, those psd's become negatives of what they are in my InDesign file.  I've gone through my file to see what setting is off on the images & in the Export settings and I just can't pinpoint the problem.  HELP!!

Sorry. I just remembered that that was not accurate.
I believe it was jpegs exported from CorelDRAW that were negative when viewed on Mac...

  • Why CS4 freezes when drag clips to time line ?

Hi, I am using CS4 whenI grab and drop all the clips at onece on the time line most of the clips at the end freezes. The clips in the start of the time line plays ok on time line and but when it reaches blank clips, CS4 seems freezes and I have to select CTRL+ALT+DEL to getout which will distroy all data on time line. I am using Dell Precision T7500, 2.4GHz Proc, 12GB DDR3 RAM with ECC, Nvidia Qudro FX 3800 with 1Gb memory, RAID 5 sys with 3 600GB, SAS HDDs(but shows as only one big HDD, ie. 1.09 TB total in C:\ and my data and project/scratch disk data saved in USB connected external HDD. All my OS and Prgrams saved in C:\ drive. I would really appreciate for any advice I can try to get rid of long lasted problem...Ur help is much appreciated. Thx.

You have made a giant mistake in setting up your disks like that. Your currently have:
    1. A gigantic 1.09 TB raid5 for OS & program, which is very fast (around 170 MB/s transfer rate) of which you use about 40 GB.
    2. A very slow USB drive that is only suitable for backups (around 20 MB/s transfer rate).
    What you should do is:
    1. Get a new Samsung F4 320 GB disk for OS & proagrams ( around € 30) or better. The F4 gives the best bang-for-the-buck.
    2. Use the raid5 for all your other requirements, projects, media, media cache, etc.
    3. Use the USB disk for backups and possibly for exports,
    You will likely get transfer rates around 120 MB/s for 1, 170 MB/s for 2 and 20 MB/s for 3.
This € 30 investment will increase your performance significantly.
To paraphrase Armstrong: "A small step for man, a giant step for mankind", would tramslate into: "A small investment for you, a giant step in your performance".

  • Hyphenation loss (indesign CS 4 -- incopy CS4)

    Hi,
by creating an incopy file (.icma) out of indesign (.idd) in some incopy files the hyphenation marking gets lost --> in indesign the hyphenation is activated, but in incopy the hyphenation marking is gone.
This problem hasn't appeared in seven incopy files before but suddenly in the 8th incopy file the problem was there!
Has somebody any idea what could be the problem?
    Thank you.
P.S.: Is there a handbook only for InCopy CS4 available? (not for InDesign)

I'm having the same issue. I've been experimenting with a recent document that exhibited reflowing.
The text and the Paragraph Style attributed to the text in my InDesign document have hyphenation turned on. But the InCopy file shows that hyphenation is off.
I decided to create a clean test document, and I cut and pasted just one page of text from the old InDesign document. When I created the InCopy Assignment from the new clean document, the hyphenation was preserved.
So, wondering what to do, my hunch at the moment is that the issue may lie with the fact that I've been building on the same document for several years. It started as a CS3 document. I'm going to re-create my InDesign document from scratch.
There's another forum message on the subject. I think my experiment seems to reveal another facet to the puzzle.

    Hello Srivatsan,
The differences between downtime minimized and the resource minimized is the first shutdown of the production system. For downtime minimized strategy it's the phase MODPROF_TRANS. And for resource minimized, it's either EU_import, or the START_SHDI_FIRST. But you can restart the soruce system(but not in production mode) after that until MODPROF_TRANS.
The downtime actually is depend on the hardware and the size of the database. It has nothign to do with the application. It's doing the table conversion and changing and keep them consistent.
To be safe, I would recommend you to plan at least a weekend for the downtime (after MODPROF_TRANS) if the database is not too big.
