InDesign CS4: Missing Toolbars and Missing Plug-In

Currently running InDesign CS4, version 6.0 on a Macbook Pro.
I was just using the program last night with no issues. Upon opening InDesign today, Adobe Updater popped up at launch; I installed updates. Now when I open a new document in InDesign, there are no toolbars on the side of my screen. (I've tried using the tab key shortcut, but nothing happens.)
Also, when I try to open previously saved InDesign files from my computer, I get the following pop-up:
Missing Plug-ins
LILO.APLN
The document "filename" uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?
And then this pop-up:
Hyphenation breaks may change if you edit the text in this document.
The following hyphenation services are not installed on this system - Proximity (English: USA)
I don't know what either of these messages mean. I'm not incredibly tech-saavy, so any advice would be EXTREMELY appreciated.

Uninstalled the Creative Suite. Ran the cleanup tool. Reinstalled the suite from the installation discs.
Upon opening InDesign, I got these two messages:

Most Adobe software is written for one of two platforms, Mac or PC. In order to switch platforms you need to be using the most current version, so CS4 would not be supported for making this switch. Here is a link to a page that explains the requirements for switching platforms....

InDesign CS4 Help--Toolbar not showing, can't type or do anything.

So I downloaded the trial version of Indesign CS4 on my computer, and when I opened it there was no toolbar, and I basically cannot type anything on it etc. . .
I looked through some older posts on the forums and people suggested uninstalling it and then reinstalling. My only fear is that since this is a trial version I thought that after uninstalling the program it wouldn't let me reinstall the program since I already had my free trial.
Does anyone have any other suggest on how to fix this or know if uninstalling it will still let me use the trial version when I reinstall it.

The Tab key is on the upper left side if the keyboard. That's the key you use for indenting a line in Word, or aligning columns in a free-typed table, or switching fields in a spreadsheet or your browser.
Unfortunatley, that isn't likely to be the issue given the rest of your description. It sounds like you have a failed installation, and I wish I could tell you that you can try again, but I honestly don't know. For previous versions that was not possible without reformattinig the hard drive.
There were some issues of this type that popped up on some older hardware that didn't support certain instructions. Those probelms were fixed, I think, with the 6.0.2 or 6.0.3 patch. You could try downloading the update and see if it will run.
What OS are you using? Do you have a way, such as System Restore on Windows, to go back to before you installed the trial? If so that would be a possibility for trying to reinstall. make sure you disable any anti-virus or other security software before do a new installation, and though I haven't seen any problems personally installing CS4 with other stuff running, you might want to diable anything else that isn't strictly required for you system to operate. Lots of things, like the add-on browser toolbars adn instant messengers were know to interfere with CS3 installations, but I don't use that stuff on my systems so I have no experience one way or the other withthem in CS4.

InDesign CS4, Hyperlinks, Buttons and PDF

Hi All,
I'm having a few issues getting InDesign CS4 to output a PDF with interactive elements that works correctly. The brief is fairly simple, a PDF at the top level should open other PDFs in a 'pdfs' folder. The top level PDF contains a lot of links to the content in the 'pdfs' folder, this changes over time and a new top level PDF is created.
Initially I created an InDesign document with a table containing hyperlinked text that you could click on, this was what the client wanted. I used the Hyperlink panel to create a new hyperlink that linked to a FILE and selected the PDF in the 'pdfs' folder that I wanted to open.
The problem with this approach is that the link when viewed in Acrobat contains the action to open a web link which immediately presents a warning that the document is attempting to connect to the file. If you allow it then the PDF is opened but in a web browser.
A second problem with this approach is one of portability, the links are hard coded and if you move the files to a new location they simply don't work as the previous location can't be found.
Next I tried creating buttons with actions to open the PDF. This works and is portable as there is some logic when looking for the file to open but you have no say over whether the file is opened in the same window or a new window.
I have been unable to work out how to change this in the PDF, you have to manually re-link the document in Acrobat where it will ask you whether you want a new window and then delete the previous action.
Is there a better way to achieve this other than creating all the links manually in Acrobat? The project currently has a relatively small number of links but that will not always be the case and I can only see this getting more difficult and error prone as the project moves forward.

I tried this option and it worked, but it opens the pdf files in an internet browser.
But it did allow me to open the links on different computers without a problem.

Indesign cs4 keeps crashing and won't even load on new macbook os lion? How do I fix this?

I have just purchased a new macbook pro running lion and indesign will not load just keeps crashing. Have restarted macbook but I don't know what else to do?

InDesign CS4 has issues with Lion. You may need to update to CS5.

Missing songs, missing videos, and missing playlist

Now that I updated itunes seems like I'm missing videos. Before the update I was and still am missing songs and playlist. This includes songs I had put in with cd's.
I don't dare try to sync my phone or ipad. My phone has all the music on there from when itunes wasn't broke.I just have to deal with changing the Christmas music right away. I thought maybe the update would help. Silly me.
Does anyone know if there is something that can be done for this problem

You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and ask them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. InDesign CS4 freezed up and closes when editing existing files

I worked all day yesterday on a new file, layout etc. I went into the file last night to edit it and every time I would try to edit, either copy, move , fitting, it frose and closed.
I have noticed that when I right click my mouse to get the drop down menu to make an edit this is when it freezes.
Please help.. have several projects with deadlines

I experienced the similar problem this morning. Only, my InDesign CS4 closes.
I can start InDesign OK, but after I select a file to open it closes after just about two seconds. The same situation is with older files.
There is just one small file that loads fine. (My problem file is 185Mb)
After a few hours of playing with InDesign I moved away from it and removed the updated fonts I installed yesterday evening and everything works fine! It must be something to do with Windows 7 on this machine, because my laptop which runs Vista and CS2 had no problems with updated font.
Now I have to find out what is wrong with my font...

InDesign Missing JBX and other plug ins?

Downloads fine and CC tells me all up to date but at launch InDesign says it is missing JBX. The plugin folder is almost empty. I have unistalled and re-installed several times. Can't find the plugins.

New windows open with different toolbars (and missing URL bar)

When I select the "New Window" button or "Open in New Window" from the context menu, a new Firefox window opens - however, the toolbars are completely different from the original open window. Specifically, the URL location bar is missing.
I can add it back, but the change then modifies my original toolbar setup.
More bad behavior: Even if I modify the new window back to the way I wanted it, new windows opened from that window revert back to the modified version, with no location toolbar.

Indesign CS4, text on path missing when printed.

I have a very important book going to print, and some last minute changes were made directly after upgrading from CS3 to CS4, now that the file was converted to CS4, text on circular paths display in the program fine but do not print or appear in pdfs. There are 12 sections in the book and for some reason, the first section prints fine, even though the elements in the other sections are the same. Nothing is linked to a master page. Even when I copy the text that DOES print from the first section and paste it in place later in the book, it will not print.
Is has anything like this been discussed? I've seen a lot of mention about master page items needing to be overridden in these cases, but they are not linked to a master page... I even overode all master page items just in case, but no luck.

Obviously the first thing to check is that they aren't set to non-printing in the attributes panel, or that the layer isn't set to non-printing, but it seems unlikely that this is the case if you've copied and pasted in place from one that does print.
Do they show on the screen in preview mode, or when overprint preview is active?

InDesign CS4 - Helvetica Neue and Mountain Lion

Hi there,
Can anyone please help? I recently updated from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Since I made this transition I have had a problem with exporting HELVETICA NEUE to a PDF from CS4. This used to work perfectly fine on Snow Leopard from CS4 so I am assuming it is something to do with Mountain Lion. When I export I just get these little squares instead of the letters. I've got the latest Acrobat Pro which I'm viewing it in. I also sent the PDF to a PC and it looked exactly the same. I have an imac.
The problem is I have quite a lot of templates I use which are in this font so it is a nightmare for me to have to change the font in so many files.
This is how it shows in Finder - Library, fonts:
HelveticaNeue.dfont
Datafork TrueType font
I can copy it but I can't paste it in to the InDesign font folder. To be honest I'm not sure thats the right thing to do anyway, just troubleshooting.
I have found many other people out there on the internet with the same problem but no answers! There must be someone out there with the expertise and brains to help! Someone who could rise to the challenge!

I use CS4 but with Yosemite. I would REALLY appreciate an correct answer on this.

Error when extracting data from ETL - Missing messages and missing InfoIdoc

Hi All,
We are using BW 3.0 and extracting data from other source systems through Informatica Powercenter (ETL). The system is working fine but when we try to extract data on 31st Dec , we get the following error. Only this load gives the error and all the other load to other data targets are going fine. All the data are one-to-one mapped from ETL to BW.
Error messages from Monitor -Status tab:-
   "InfoIdocs missing; external system
   Diagnosis :- InfoIDocs are missing. The IDocs are created in BW with non-SAP systems as source
   systems that transfer the data and metadata to BW using BAPIs. Since the IDocs are missing, a
   short dump in BW probably occurred.
   System response: No selection information arrived from the source system"
Error messages from Monitor -Details tab:-
    Missing message: Number of sent records,   Missing message: Selection completed

Thank you very much for your reply. The source system connections are OK and we are able to load data to other Data targets from ETL, we have issue only with this this particular load. The load extracts data and I have loaded the data from ETL to PSA and have checked the data content and it is correct. But when I update the same data to the target I get this error. I have also tried to update from PSA to target and also directly from ETL to target.
Appretiate your suggestions.

Missing file and missing pages

Really I have 2 questions here but they're related:
1. I downloaded a PDB file (converted from a Text file) from my computer using Missing Sync. The log says that it was downloaded successfully but I can't find it.
2. I successfully downloaded some PDF files (converted from Text) to my handheld and was able to open them with Adobe Reader. However, I can only read the first 50 pages as the rest are blank.
I have a Palm TX under Palm OS and Leopard.

I do in fact have both eReader and Mobipocket and have successfully downloaded and read many an ebook both in PDB an PRC format (over 50). I simply can't find the file that my Missing Sync log says was downloaded.
I agree that neither the layout nor the quality of Adobe is brilliant but it's better than printing out the document when you're travelling and at least it's free. I was hoping not to have to buy Docs to Go as it's not too often that I would have to use it. But as it's not too expensive (especially at the moment as I'll be paying in Euros!!) I'll probably buy it.
Now if I could just find my file....

Missing Thumbnails and Missing Photos

I updated iphoto to 6.02, and now I'm getting blank spaces for a bunch of photos in the thumbnail section, and I'm getting the empty grey square with the exclamation point in regular sized photos.
Everything was just fine before the upgrade.

Yes, ditto. I have same problem as Ted if not worse with iPhoto 6.02. There must be 10000s of us out there which means that someone must have figured out a solution by now. Please!
I followed Niantic's instructions but nada. I also updated my OS and followed the link to the Apple com article on images with !s but Show file got no response nor did show original file etc.
Before I rebuilt the library I could click on some (but not all) the blank thumbnails and see the whole photo, but now all the blanks remain blank with the ! in the middle.
Checking the missing photos I noticed two things that might help. First, a great wodge disappeared from those taken between July and September 2005. Although some were still showing.
Of the other that went missing it seemed pretty random with a few here and there from the beginning of my library (2002) onwards.
Also a bunch of photos I gave names to so I could identify them easily in the iPhoto library folders got jumbled in the library so they are now out of sync with when they were taken.
Also some photos have renumbered themselves so 015_13 has duplicated itself as 015_12
Also the dates are wrong (this must be pretty easy to fix), so for example photos I took in March 2006 say Jan 2005
Also when I examine the file directory on iPhoto library none of the dates correspond to when I took them (one strand starts 1970) and many of the subfolders are empty (so I cant quite understand how they came to be created).
Finally, yes I do have backups though I am not looking forward to the hours it will eventually take identifying all the missing photos by number and then reimporting one or several at a time.
I already tried to do this with several different photos and each time it read: "Unreadable file: the following file could not be imported: users/etc/etc/IMG_xxxx.jpg (The file is in the iPhoto library folder). Please could someone translate what this means!
Please excuse the length of this posting but I figured the more info I give the more likely there might be a clue for some bright spark to figure out what the xxxx is going on. Like Ted, my digital photo life was simple and peaceful until iLife 6 came along.
I suspect that messy file management that was tolerated in my earlier version is no longer tolerated by this new version. Whatever the reason i am completely stumped. Over to you, Sherlock…

Convenient script to remove missing assemblies/missing webparts and missing set up files

Hi All,
When try to run config wizard after any patch installation it fails to succeed beacuse of either missing assemblies or features or webparts or setup files.
For features, I am using FeatureAdmin tool but for others, does anyone have any working script to remove these orphaned objects?
