InDesign CS4 will not install

THE PROBLEM: buy clicking on the .exe file the DVD starts-up but doesn't get any further! swapped the DVD drive still no joy! Have tried everything from the Adobe TechNote: installing in "simple mode" from the desktop, virus scanner de-installed all 2 nothing. Not even a error message it just does not start the installation process. Tried on another PC and it works fine (although extremely slowly).OUR SYSTEM: We are running Window XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 2, Pentium 4 with 3.00 GHz, 2 Gig of RAM. Anyone any clues?

You're logged in as Administrator? (Have to check - no offense intended)
Turn off any firewalls temporarily. I have very similar systems, and it went through with nothing more than turning off anti-virus on both my desktop and laptop, so it's likely to be something conflicting on this particular machine. I'd be inclined to try running MSConfig and turn off everything in the startup tab that you know is not essential for the system to work, and do the same for all non-microsoft services in the services tab, but make sure you don't disable Bonjour, if it's there, as it's used by the installer (or was in the last version). Some scanner drivers were problematic in CS3, as were iTunes and browser toolbars.
If it appears to be hung, take a look in task manager an see if it's running. Perhaps it's off-screen and you can get it to come back by playing with minimize/maximize or switch to commands.
Not much more I can think of at the moment.

  • Indesign CS4 will not launch in Windows Vista

Indesign CS4 will not launch but all other CS4 programs will in Windows Vista, has been worked perfectly up until mid february, I have spent two weeks dealing with Adobe support, and finally I ran “Windows Installer Clean Up” and restarted as requested on phone call to adobe today, then ran “WinCS4Cleanupscript” which inform me that it was clean (or words to that effect) and restarted. Did new install of CS4, at registration I noticed that the Reg Form was pre filled and with my preferences which was a bit strange. After all that Indesign still does not launch but is running. Please can anyone help.

This is the earlier thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/2621367#2621367
I think the onus is on Rapport to sort its software to prevent it interfering with other applications, and there is a post in that thread that indicates that Rapport is both aware of the problem and is working to overcome it.
I would hope that Adobe itself would have picked up this problem by at least monitoring this forum, but other than adding it to the knowledgebase for its technical support, which I don't expect is an overnight thing to do, I can't see what else it would be expected to do.
Perhaps if anyone from Adobe is monitoring this problem they could chime in here and let us know what the position is. I strongly suspect that Trusteer may have been the reason I couldn't get InDesign to run under Windows 7, and so I rolled the whole shooting match back to XP. I am planning to reinstall W7 with the knowledge that I may have to toggle Trusteer on and off to run InDesign, but it would be helpful to have some assurance from either party that a fix is on its way.
In the previous thread the Rapport response implied there was reference to the problem on its FAQ page. If there is I can't find it.

  • Adobe CS4 will not install on new macbook pro [was: pro]

Adobe CS4 will not install on new macbook pro. It is coming from my other macbook.

Install normally means running setup from the orginal discs or the downloadable trial version. If you are copying from a backup or another computer, that won't work.
Best advice is to download the CS4 trial, and have your serial number ready in order to convert the trial into a licensed version.
Get the trial here. Follow the instructions carefully or the download link won't work.

  • My copy of Adobe InDesign cs4 will not open a regular idml file.

I opened my document, and all it said was "cannot open the file "Tightsketch_charrette2.idml". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application" I tried opening other idmls that I knew were not corrupted and I recieved the same message. I checked the plugins, they are all enabled.  I quit all other programs, no luck.  I restarted the macbook, no luck again.  Could I recieve some help?  My Indesign cs4 is fully updated and Im having all these problems.

I have good news, and bad news.
The good news is that the file opens correctly here in both CS5.5 and CS4. The bad news is that means there's a problem with your CS4.
I would start out by trashing your preferences. It's fast, easy to do, and not overly destructive, and if you are lucky it will even solve the problem, but I wouldn't put the odds of success at more than 50/50. See Replace Your Preferences
Do you have a Time Machine backup? If you do, the next thing I would try is restoring the InDesign application folder from a time before the problem started.
If all else fails, it's probably time to bite the bullet and break out the installer. First try running a "repair" install on top of what's there. If that, too, fails, then I would uninstall CS4, run the CS5 clean tool (which can also clean up CS4 -- see Resolve installation problems with CS5 Cleaner Tool), then restart the computer and reinstall. If you have any customized stuff you should make copies of things like shorcut sets and workspaces that you can put back as explained in the thread on resetting the prefs.

  • InDesign CS4 will not run under Lion

I have InDesign CS4 and Design Suite CS3. All my other CS3 apps run under Lion. The Upgrade to Lion failed leaving my internal unbootable, so I installed and migrated to an external drive. But after the upgrade to Lion all of the other CS 3 aps run, IDCS4 will not run. I get the following message:
Adobe InDesign is missing required system fonts or CMap files. Please reinstall InDesign.
I used the uninstaller and reinstalled. No affect. I made the Library folder visible. No effect. I cant

There is a very long list of incompatibilities with Lion:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/905/cpsid_90508.html
I'm sure there are many more that are unknown.
FWIW, I highly recommend sticking with Snow Leopard for now and when you do upgrade, do so as a clean install.
John will be along soon to tell you to ignore the man behind the curtain.

  • InDesign app will not install on iPad 1

Now I have created an app through InDesign. I've got the ipa-file and have installed the test-app-file on my iPad 3.
Works fine on iPad 3, but then I wanted to test it on my old iPad (1), and I get this message (translated from danish, I do not know what iTunes tells you in English):
"The program "..." was not installed on iPad "My iPad1" because it requires a new version of iPad software"
Does anyone know why this is happening, and does it mean what I think, namely that an InDesign app created through Creative cloud does not work on older iOS-systems?
Should say that the old iPad is updated as far as it goes (iOS 5.1.1)
    Sincerely
    MikHva

Read this maybe it will help shed some light on support for iOS 5.

  • InDesign CS4 will not open. Crashes on startup - Lion 10.7.2

I just migrated all of my files from our old Quad Core G5 PPC to a new Quad Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro. I'm running Lion 10.7.2 with 16GB of RAM and plenty of hard disk space. Illustrator CS4 opens and runs fine. However, when I tried to run InDesign for the first time (and all subsequent times - about 10 now), it brings up the initial Adobe startup window, lists what is loading (plugins registering), etc., and part way into that process it crashes consistently.
Many of the files our organization needs to complete its year end reporting, donor updates, and board of directors collateral is trapped in ID and cannot be completed until this problem is rectified.
    Anyone? Ideas?

    Processor  2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  16 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)

I have this issue also. InDesign [CS4] begins to start up, the "initializing..." label appears, then it immediately quits. Started after I had to revert back to 10.7.3 from 10.7.4 due to frequent and incessant kernel panics in 7.4. I tried uninstalling all CS4 apps (using the CS4 uninstall tool), then ran Adobe Cleaner Tool, then did a clean install of CS4 (Design Premium), including a fresh input of the serial number. All other CS4 apps open normally.
Interestingly, upon your suggestion, I created a new user account, then tried to open InDesign there. It opened normally, so at least I can use it in the "Test Account" I created. Any suggestions on how to get it to work in my account?

  • Dreamweaver CS4 will not install

I have a windows 7 PC. I have used Dreamweaver CS4 in the past on this computer.
However after I did a recent return to factory settings I have problems when trying to reinstall the program from the disc.
On the first attempt it seemed to install but I got a message saying the installation was incomplete but that the program would function.
When I tried to use the program I got a message that there were no "Resources"
So I tried to reinstall but this time it would not install at all.
Is there some update I can download that would help?
    Please advise

I was not sure how to follow some of the instructions for the Cleaner Tool so I was looking around for more explanation and meanwhile
I found find a page on the Adobe site for downloads of "older" products.
I was able to download and successfully install Dreamweaver CS4 from here:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs4-product-downloads.html
Thanks for your advice and for taking the time to respond.

  • My cs4 will not install any updates

My photoshop CS4 seems to be fully loaded but runs slow. It was an upgrade from my prior CS2. The updates will download and start to upload but all of them end up being indicated by the installer as failed. So I am still not updated to 11.0.1.
I have no 3rd party plug ins set up in CS4, as I removed them in hopes that it would resolve this problem. But it did not. My Graphic card is on the acceptable list and has the current driver updates. I am running a Dell Xps with 3.20ghz 3.20 hardrive with lots of room as I use a 1tet external drive for my photos. I have 3gb of Ram. Is there some other way to load these needed updates.  As there seems to be about 4 bundles for them - Camera Raw - All products - the 11.0.1 and something else. Hope you can help or is this something I should be phoning in on. Thanks

I had a similar problem when running Vista, the installer would indicate failure but the install had actually happened.
Check the Photoshop version in the Help->About Photoshop (11.0.1)menu item.
You can also check out Bridge (3.0.0464) the same way and Camera Raw (5.5) (the version number is in the title bar when it's not in full screen mode).

  • Indesign CS4 will not launch

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS.  I have some Master Suite CS4 apps loaded.  I recently used Acrobat to convert an Indesign document into a pdf.  Now I cannot open Indesign either from the start icon or by double clicking on a file name. When trying to start the app the "hourglass" cursor shows for a second or two then revers to the inert curser. Has any one else had this happen please and is ther a cure other than a re-install ?

    langstone wrote:
I tried re-installing Indesgn but this did not allow Indesign to launch.
I have now Uninstalled Rapport and Indesign launcehes correctly.
I forget to mention I running Creative suite 4 design premium on a pc running windows 7 pro on Intel Q6600 on an Asus P5Q with 4GB ram and several Terabytes of disk space.

I don't run Rapport or Win7, but I suspect there must be  way to turn off Rapport when you are not doing your banking so you can have it when you need it (Task manager, if nothing else).
Ken Grace has posted in a number of similar threads that Trusteer is aware of the issue and hopes to have it fixed in "a couple of weeks" (their words).

  • Illustrator CS4 will not install

Win 7 64 bit, Photoshop CS4 installed.  Try to install Illustrator CS4 and runs into a problem updating Photoshop and stops the install.

Not exacly sure what is said. Just that is was not able to update Photosope and needed to stop the install.
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I have tried to update Photoshop CS4 and have had difficulty as it would never complete, just get 80% done and stop.  Caused by:
Error: The specified module could not be found. C:\Program files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS4\Client\4.0.0\VersionCue.DLL
    Workaround:
Actually, I copied all of the files, not including the Dictionaries directory,
    VersionCue.dll
    VersionCueSDK.dll
    VersionCueUI.dll
    ExtendScript.dll
that were not in the 4.0.1 directory.
Now, I ended up with these 5 files,
    VersionCue.dll
    VersionCueSDK.dll
    VersionCueUI.dll
    ExtendScript.dll
    ScCore.dll
    and 1 directory, Dictionaries.

  • Updates for CS4 will not install...

I am running CS4 on Windows 7 (64 bit).  I cannot get any updates to install.  The installation bar starts cross the window then returns to the beginning and does it again....a never ending loop.  I once heard that when I installed PS I should do it under adminiatrator permissions.  If this true....what are they talking about ?  Any help is appreciated....

First, WHICH version of Vista 32-bit? It must be at least Home Premium, but if things started to install the first time that probably isn't the issue.
Second, if the installer is reporting you don't have SP1 it's worth checking. Did you specifically download and install SP1? I don't know, because I don't run Vista, if SP1 would be an automatic update, or if only the security patches included in it would be automatic.
In XP you can right-click on My Computer and select properties. On the general tab it will tell you what service packs are installed. There has to be an equivalent in Vista, so you should check and be sure SP1 is listed.

  • Please help cs4 will not install

I just got a new photoshop cs4 extended. pn#65015816 from ebay. I can't get it to load, a auto something will pop up fast and then go away and the disk stops turning.
I called suport and they want a id# I don't know what they are talking about and when they found out I got it on ebay they won't even talk to me.

if it came in it's own self contained cs4 box there should be a serial number on the back side towards the bottom of the dvd case i believe this is what they were asking for.
at what point in the install does it stop loading?
does it try to install, do you get a screen with install instructions?
    what happens step by step?
