Indesign CS5.5 crashes with font error

Hi-
Just started up ID CS5.5 after a month or two and when trying to open any files, we get a crash. ID complains about font missing and then immediately displays the standard windows error..indesign has crashed, do you want to send logs, debug, etc.
I have renamed the preferences per other posts and no change. How do I check all the installation files for ID or does it required an entire reinstall? This is very strange as ID has been extremely stable on this machine...can't say we have had one crash..til today. Suggestions? Thank you!

Thank you. I will check. I have debugged this to being an issue with a font..(I hate to say you were right) in the CS3 files. ITC Zapf Dingbats was in called for in the CS3 file but not on that system. The CS5 system does have the font, but there is something that has changed in ID CS55 recently(past two-three months) that breaks in this situation. I found out because when the system crashed, upon restart it tried to open the crashed file. There was no text..as I clicked on the + symbol to reload text into the frames, I was able to localize the bad frame. Then I went back to the source CS3 file and changes fonts until I found what was causing the failure. Can this be submitted to SQA for a patch?

InDesign CS5.5 crashes with OS X Lion 10.7.4

Hi,
I got the Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Master Collection around March and had been using it without any major issues for a while on my old Macbook. Since that computer only had two gigs of ram, and was getting old, I got a the new 15" Macbook Pro with retina display. It has 16 gigs of ram. But since getting it I have been unable to get my Adobe software to work properly on it. (My old computer was running Leopard, this one has Lion, so I thought that may be the issue, but at my work they run CS5 with Lion no problem)
Every program I have used so far has unexpectedly crashed. I am posting here because I know how to re-create the Indesign crash. Any time I try to delete a page in my document, the program quits. A warning box does come up, but it does not contain any text, and closes within a few seconds.
I searched the forum, and found one person's solution was to save the file as an IDML. I have tried this but it did not work. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything, but that did not work either.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Why does InDesign CS5 keep crashing with one particular document?

I have CS5 for both Mac (OS 10.7.4) and Windows (XP). An INDD file that was working just fine for me yesterday is now causing crashes when I open it... on both machines! Other documents open just fine.
The only thing I've tried so far is to move all my linked images (there are 21 so far) into another folder. When I open the doc, I now get the pop-up window that tells me I have missing links, but once I click on anything in that window (either update or don't update), the crash happens right after that.
Any ideas?? I am on a deadline and have lost most of today already.

Ha! Thanks for jogging my memory... our system IS backed up daily, and now my friendly IT guy is going to look for the last backup of the file. Silly me for not remembering that.
I'll try uninstalling the fonts next. I do not use a font manager at work.

Excel crash with MSVBVM60 error

Hi
I have a problem with my input schedules, everytime I send data excel crash with an error in msvbvm60.dll.
I have checked that the version of msvbvm60 is the newest one and it is.
I havn't made any system changes in the past dayes and we have the error on at least 2 different PC's and on 2 different AppSets. It was working fine this morning.
The error occures when the dialogbox showing the send data result appear. The data are saved in the database.
Any suggestion on why and how to fix this problem is greatly appreaciated.

Itunes 10.5 crashes with no error when trying to play any music, video, or import/scan from the library folder on the compter with Windows 7 Pro.

Fresh install with all older itunes un-installed as well as other Apple software.
Now cannot get any songs, videos, or even scan library folder for songs to work on the computer.
itunes just simply crashes with no error comments.
This is itunes 10.5 on a Windows 7 Pro system.

Same here, though on XP. Have tried cleaning registry, reinstalling, deleting preferences. Created a new user with no library and I have the problem there, too, so it's not the library.
Is there no one to call about this??

Hhow much goal and free hard disk space is available? Sounds like you need to move some things off of that hard drive.

Newest update to Firefox Crashes with BEX error code

Updated Firefox to newest version. Upon restarting Firefox it crashes with BEX error code. Deactivated all anti-spyware, removed all traces of Firefox and did a new re-install, and tried to open in Safe Mode but it still crashes upon start with same error code. (Firefox only runs on initial install but upon restart always crashes) Attempted to find an older version of firefox but can not find older version. I do not see any help related to the severity of my crashes. How do you fix the BEX crash?

When you started in Safe Mode*, did you get the Safe Mode dialog or Firefox never got that far? Did you ever get to your home page?
BEX = Buffer Overflow Exception or Data Execution Prevention (DEP) exception. DEP is a security feature that seeks to prevent exploits that inject program code into Windows memory. Firefox doesn't trigger this error on its own, but add-ons or external programs that tweak Firefox might.
Are you using any special configurations to run Firefox, such as virtual machines or sandboxing?
If not, it sound suspicious. You may want to run some supplemental scans. These two tools are highly regarded:

Tux-6.5 (no patches) BBL crashes with SIGBUS error

We have been using tuxedo 6.5 on HP-UX 11i for a long time. All of a sudden, in
the last couple of days we wre finding that the BBL process crashes with SIGBUS
error. Nothing is written into the ULOG to indicate what caused the problem. We

changes have been applied in the last 31 days at least. I would appreciate it
very much if someone could point me in the right direction to understand why we
are getting the BBL crashing.

If you were to contact BEA Customer Support with a problem like this, the first
thing they would tell you is to get the latest rolling patch. It is possible
that this is a problem that was resolved in a patch and people do not want to
spend time looking into a problem that was solved by somebody else.
That said, when a system that was running for a long time starts having trouble,
there has to be something that is different. A few ideas: a disk might be full
or your system is low on memory. Does the problem exist after a reboot?, Did
you change the size of your application? Can you restore a save of the state
of your application before you started having the problem? How about the whole
system? Are there any new applications running that will change the usage of
memory or message queues?
I did a quick look at the patchlev file for Tux 6.5 and there were a number of
problems with the BBL fixed over the years. Several have involved crashes. Some
of the problems are quite subtle and you have to be lucky (or unlucky) to hit
them. It is possible you were running "for a long time" and were just lucky to
be avoiding the problem.
What this comes down to is that crashes of the BBL are particularly disturbing
and I recommend getting the latest rolling patch. If the problem persists, I
suggest filing a case with Customer Support.

Most of my games enjoy crashing with unexpected errors.

*I own a:*
Macbook Pro (Mac OS X; Version 10.6.6)
2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
4 GB 10067 MHz DDR3
With most of my games, they crash randomly. They can work at some points and for extended periods of time rather well, and then randomly crash with unexpected errors. Sometimes they work for a few days, other days they get a crash. Or they could have so many errors that it's hard to play for more than fifteen minutes, or even at all. It started with my Sims 3 games - they crash once every so often, then the same with new games I've gotten, such as Spore, Neverwinter Nights 2 (one of the ones it has happened most with), and Fable (which doesn't even play for more than five minutes before crashing - always - so it's been unplayable), and now suddenly with World of Warcraft (I got Cataclysm), it has been crashing with errors several times a day for the past week or so. I can't tell if this is because all my games coincidentally have something wrong with them, or are too high in graphics or performance for my computer, or if it's my computer having a hardware/video card/etc. issue and/or needing to be updated to handle the games. What should I assume, or do? Should I just take it in somewhere?

I am unsure how to check how full my hard drive is. How does one do that?
Also, they just end up freezing a few seconds before crashing. I'm usually not doing anything out of the ordinary, though very seldom do I think it may be because I'm doing (or running) too much at once, but I can't be positive on this. Some games just crash without explanation. Others crash and give an error that I can send in to the companies, like WoW.

InDesign CS5 on MAC - ID Crashing (With Serious Error Message)

After going into Document Setup with a document open, and changing the document orientation from landscape to portrait, InDesign CS5 crashes after clicking OK with an error message (see attached screen shot). I've deleted the settings file by starting ID with Shift+Command+Option+Ctrl held down. I ran some maintenance using the app OnyX (cleared caches, repaired permissions, etc.) Any idea what would cause this? I've stopped short of reinstalling, but that may be the only option. Also, I updated CS5 with the latest updates, and that didn't fix it either.

At this point you may have corrupt recovery data that is preventing ID from starting if it crashes each time you try to launch it. Move everything out of the InDesign Recovery folder intoa safe place (you'll probably want to delete it later, but you don't know yet) and see if ID will launch. Then try opening any files that you were working on at the time of the first crash. Hopefully they aren't damaged and you've only lost work since the last save.

InDesign CS5.5 crashes when trying to open or create files on Yosemite

I've just recently migrated to a new iMac running Yosemite. Photoshop CS5.1, Illustrator 5.1 and Bridge 5.1 are working fine but I'm having major issues with InDesign CS5.5. Every time I try to open an existing file or create a new one the programme freezes and I have to force quit.
I've trawled the forums and have done everything mentioned including uninstalling/reinstalling, removing temporary cache files and preferences, removing Data Store, deleting the Adobe font list, and removing the SING component.
I ran Activity Monitor and have uploaded the details to Sample of InDesign - Pastebin.com and the Crash Report to http://pastebin.com/KdEEWadj

CS5.x is not compatible to Yosemite. It may or may not run, if it does never without problems.
Adobe applications should never be installed via migration. It is always making problems in the long run. If you have done so, deinstall them immediately, run Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool (available on Adobe's Website) and install any application from it original installer.
I recommend to upgrade to a CC subscription. CS6 might also work, but it is now very old and 2 to 3 versions after CS6 have been released. If you get a new system upgrade it is NOT guaranteed that it will work as CS6 is now at the end if not out of its product life cycle.

InDesign CS5.5 - Crashes When Packaging

When trying to package certain of our jobs, InDesign will momentarily hangup during font or link collection before crashing completely. Initially, this was only happening on large multiple-page, image-heavy files, but now even small files, with only one or two pages and a handful of images are failing. I have read through other discussions on similar issues and have tried their fixes (i.e. turning off live preflight, disabling non-system fonts), but the results are still the same. Packaging has become a necessary portion of our workflow if only for image-gathering prior to archiving and this issue is really becoming a problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have to say, it's so awesome that so many people are posting their crash reports in 2012, without having to be asked for them! It sure makes it easier to help, at least theoretically.

Have you tried exporting to IDML? Do you have any third-party extensions?
Packaging has become a necessary portion of our workflow if only for image-gathering prior to archiving and this issue is really becoming a problem.
If it is only for image-gathering, you can use use Links (panel menu) > Utilities > Copy Links, see http://indesignsecrets.com/copy-all-your-linked-images.php for a discussion. Probably an adequate workaround.

It would appear that the crash is entirely in Apple's code, in a thread Apple created, i.e. very much "not InDesign's fault." But looks can be deceiving.
Anyhow, the implication is that there's something wrong with one of the links in a weird way. Network filesystem?

Fundamentally, we can see from frame #15 that the AdobeAFL library has been invoked to copy a file, and then Apple's file copying code is running along and somehow ultimately crashing.
Still doesn't tell us why. It vaguely reminds me of a crash someone was having a few months ago when they rightclicked on an image object. Turned out that when InDesign was building the "Edit With" menu, to show all applications that could open a particular file, some ancient (Rosetta-enabled PPC app?) program was gumming up the works and making the process of enumerating applications break. Which translated into an inability to rightclick.
While I'm not suggesting you should necessarily go through and trash any ancient applications in your Applications/ folder (just moving them is probably not sufficient either. I guess you could create a DMG and put them on the DMG and unmount it), that might be vaguely related. Hopefully not.
Anyhow, I suspect htis is a problem with a single link. Can you narrow it down to one?
