InDesign CS5.5 freezes when typing

When opening a InDesign CS3 file in 5.5 and I begin to type InDesign will freeze up. Sometimes it crashes other times I'll have to wait 10+ min for it to respond.
Below is the link to my crash report:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3960609/indesign_cs5.5_crash_report.txt.zip

First try exporting the CS3 file as an .inx file, then open that in CS5.5 and resave as a CS5.5 .indd file. Is this any better?

  • InDesign CS5.5 freezes when creating an idml file

    Good Day All,
I have been using inDesign since it started and have never come across this problem. I have a file that I intially created in CS4, converted to CS5 and now CS5.5. I have been trying to convert it to an IDML file and EVERYTIME it hangs and freezes. It actually produces a file but non-useable. I have been struggling with this for the last two days.
    I have;
    removed cache recovery files
looked at all styles to ensure optical kerning wasn't on (seems like a common problem)
rebuilt the file and renamed it
replaced Adobe Garamond Pro with Garamond Premier Pro
    tried it on another machine
    Re-installed CS5.5
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate with CS5.5 the document is about 11 pages long and packaged and zipped is 34.0Mb
I am starting to pull my hair out here!! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks!!
    Curtis

Thanks for the reply, but it didn't work.  I tried to move the jpg but as soon as I get to that page or click on it in the links panel, I automatically get an error code: 3 message and then the software just cascades from there.  When I try to relink the graphic in the links panel nothing happens.  I even get an error when trying to unembed the graphic.  I've tried just about everything.  I'm think that if maybe I could just delete that entire page without actually looking at the page, I may be able to recover the rest of the document.  This has been one of the biggest headaches I've ever had to deal with as far as software goes and I deal with it every day (I'm a developer).  Any other suggestions are more than welcome.
Oh, and I wasn't sure how to "open as a copy."  I made a copy of the file and tried to open it but it reacted the same as the original.  Perhaps I misunderstood your meaning?
    Thanks again for your help.

  • InDesign CS5.5 freezes when placing/updating a image

This has been happing ever since I updated to Yosemite. Started off once every 5-6 times, now I cannot import/update at all.  I go to update an image or place a new image and it freezes.
I have uninstalled InDesign, worked for a while, now stuck again.  Suggestions?

Try trashing the prefs (see Replace Your Preferences), but I don't think CS5.5 is supported on Yosemite, so you're mostly on your own getting it to work. In-place upgrades of the OS tend to be more of a problem for old versions of ID than fresh installs.

It was working 3 days ago fine and I have been using it since cs5 first came out. It will freeze on any psd now and Ive tried even with small psds under 20megabytes. I can create new psds but after saving them then attempting to reopen it will freeze.

  • Keyboard freezes when typing on iPad.

is  anyone else experiencing the screen keyboard freezing when typing a Google search or on an Internet blog?

To things that seem to have helped folks with this problem is a reset of all settings followed by a reset of the device.
    1. Use the Settings app to reset all settings.
Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
    2. Reset your device like this. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.
    Hopefully that fixes your problem.

  • InDesign CS5.5 freezing upon opening new document Lion 10.7.3?

    Hi there,
When launching CS5.5 InDesign, I select 'New document'. After it is setup (1-2 seconds), it freezes and InDesign is non functional and you have to force quit.
    My console log states:
CFURLCreateWithBytes was passed these invalid URLBytes: ‘/Applications/Adobe InDesign CS5.5/Adobe InDesign CS5.5.app/Contents/Frameworks’ (a file system path instead of an URL string). The URL created will not work with most file URL functions. CFURLCreateFromFileSystemRepresentation should be used instead.
The freeze occurs in the admin account and logged in domain user.
I have tried updating InDesign- nothing.
Uninstalling through Adobe uninstaller and reinstalling- nothing.
Not using plugins. We are using Extensis Universal Type Client but I wuit it and turned off the Core to see if that helps- nothing.
    Ive repair permissions- nothing
    Rebooted- nothing
I ended up upgrading to CS6 and had no problems. I would like to resolve this CS5.5 issue though. Any help?

I copied Mac OS: [Startup Disk]/Library/Applications Support/Adobe/SING/Mark II/Datastore to the desktop and deleted it from that directory. Did the same for the Mark II folder (Solution 2)
-Failing that the first time, I uninstall/reinstall and didnt bother to update, which is why you see the original InDesign. I'll try and update InDesign and move to 10.7.4 to see if that does anything. My
Mac OS: [Startup Disk]/Library/Applications Support/Adobe/SING/Mark II/Datastore does not currently have these folders because I took them out. Maybe I'll run the crash report again and post it. I have to wait for the designer to finish for the day. I'll update possibly tomorrow.
    Thank you!

  • InDesign CS5.5 crashes when trying to open ANY CS5.5 document

I am using InDesign CS5.5 and can't open any of my InDesign CS5.5 documents. The message "InDesign has stopped working" appears.
Even when trying to create a new document, again the message "Adobe InDesign CS5.5 has stopped working" - close programme.
InDesign was working perfectly on Friday. Saved and exported a file to pdf, all okay.
    Are you able to help.

    Hi Peter
I uninstalled the whole CS5.5, downloaded and ran the cleaning thing, reinstalled the whole suite but it came up with the message that the install had errors … every other module worked except Indesign which still did the same thing .. it would open, but not an existing or new doc … below is the error log
    Did everything again.. same result
did it again but this time also deleted every folder with reference to 5.5 and cleaned the registry  .. same result
finally, I did it all again, but this time did NOT install Fireworks (because of the error log below), 32bit Photoshop, Flash or the Apple support thingy .. and it now works !!
so it seems there is a problem with one or more of the above … was there an update around 24-26 May ??
Interestingly there's no icon against the Indesign program menu listing (but it still works) but the icon is still shown against all the 'indd' files
We rang support about 4 hours ago, they couldn't help but were going to look into it and get back to us 'within the hour' … needless to say they didn’t .. hope this 'work around' goes onto the blog and helps others
    regards
    Bruce

  • InDesign CS5.5 crashes when trying to open or create files on Yosemite

    Hi,
I've just recently migrated to a new iMac running Yosemite. Photoshop CS5.1, Illustrator 5.1 and Bridge 5.1 are working fine but I'm having major issues with InDesign CS5.5. Every time I try to open an existing file or create a new one the programme freezes and I have to force quit.
I've trawled the forums and have done everything mentioned including uninstalling/reinstalling, removing temporary cache files and preferences, removing Data Store, deleting the Adobe font list, and removing the SING component.
I ran Activity Monitor and have uploaded the details to Sample of InDesign - Pastebin.com and the Crash Report to http://pastebin.com/KdEEWadj
    Please help, I'm getting desperate!
    Thanks,
    Dan

CS5.x is not compatible to Yosemite. It may or may not run, if it does never without problems.
Adobe applications should never be installed via migration. It is always making problems in the long run. If you have done so, deinstall them immediately, run Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool (available on Adobe's Website) and install any application from it original installer.
I recommend to upgrade to a CC subscription. CS6 might also work, but it is now very old and 2 to 3 versions after CS6 have been released. If you get a new system upgrade it is NOT guaranteed that it will work as CS6 is now at the end if not out of its product life cycle.

  • InDesign Cs5 keep crashing when open this file

    Hi guys,
I am back for another problem with my InDesign. It's been a while since my last problem...
Right now I'm facing a new problem and I hope you guys can fix this with me..
So the problem is that just on this file.. Everytime I try to open it, it just crash. But it is fine when I open other files. Yesterday it was fine when I export as PDF, and even package the file. This morning when I tried to open it, it just crash...
    The solutions I tried :
Troubleshooting 101: Export to .idml or .inx to clear file corruption
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526991
(I cannot open the file because it says that the file is missing or in any other place..)
Troubleshooting 101: Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2404821#2404821
    and none of that works.
I even tried save As.  Still not working..
    Here's the log

Should I just leave it as it is and try again tomorrow? Maybe it'll work?? :/
I forgot to do back ups yesterday because I don't bring my external HD. And now I regret it
    Please help?
    Thank you!
    Have a nice day!

    Hi Peter,
I was trying to export it as .idml and the program crash, so maybe it says file cannot be open because missing maybe because it wasn't finish to export and got crash. Maybe that is why I can't open it.
well the thing is that my work InDesign Cs5 is bootleg (boo! i know )
and i was once told not to update them. so i never update until now..
unless you have a thread where i can read the manual how to update bootleg?
    Thanks Peter!

  • InDesign CS5.5 - Crashes When Packaging

    Using: InDesign CS5.5, 7.5.2
    On:  Mac OSX 10.6.8
When trying to package certain of our jobs, InDesign will momentarily hangup during font or link collection before crashing completely.  Initially, this was only happening on large multiple-page, image-heavy files, but now even small files, with only one or two pages and a handful of images are failing.  I have read through other discussions on similar issues and have tried their fixes (i.e. turning off live preflight, disabling non-system fonts), but the results are still the same.  Packaging has become a necessary portion of our workflow if only for image-gathering prior to archiving and this issue is really becoming a problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have the Adobe Crash Data here if it helps in diagnoising the root cause:  http://pastebin.com/dJuV53Ja
    Thanks!

I have to say, it's so awesome that so many people are posting their crash reports in 2012, without having to be asked for them! It sure makes it easier to help, at least theoretically.
I have read through other discussions on similar issues and have tried their fixes (i.e. turning off live preflight, disabling non-system fonts), but the results are still the same.
Have you tried exporting to IDML? Do you have any third-party extensions?
Packaging has become a necessary portion of our workflow if only for image-gathering prior to archiving and this issue is really becoming a problem.
If it is only for image-gathering, you can use use Links (panel menu) > Utilities > Copy Links, see http://indesignsecrets.com/copy-all-your-linked-images.php for a discussion. Probably an adequate workaround.
I have the Adobe Crash Data here if it helps in diagnoising the root cause:  http://pastebin.com/dJuV53Ja
    Well, this is rather atypical:
    Crashed Thread:  20
    Thread 20 Crashed:
    0   com.apple.CoreFoundation           0x9494065f _CFURLIsFileURL + 15

    8   libSystem.B.dylib                  0x94cbe0de thread_start + 34
It would appear that the crash is entirely in Apple's code, in a thread Apple created, i.e. very much "not InDesign's fault." But looks can be deceiving.
Anyhow, the implication is that there's something wrong with one of the links in a weird way. Network filesystem?
Though thread 20 was presumably spawned from the main thread, 0, which appears to be waiting for its completion:

Fundamentally, we can see from frame #15 that the AdobeAFL library has been invoked to copy a file, and then Apple's file copying code is running along and somehow ultimately crashing.
Still doesn't tell us why. It vaguely reminds me of a crash someone was having a few months ago when they rightclicked on an image object. Turned out that when InDesign was building the "Edit With" menu, to show all applications that could open a particular file, some ancient (Rosetta-enabled PPC app?) program was gumming up the works and making the process of enumerating applications break. Which translated into an inability to rightclick.
While I'm not suggesting you should necessarily go through and trash any ancient applications in your Applications/ folder (just moving them is probably not sufficient either. I guess you could create a DMG and put them on the DMG and unmount it), that might be vaguely related. Hopefully not.
Anyhow, I suspect htis is a problem with a single link. Can you narrow it down to one?

  • InDesign CS5 ACE exam - when is it available to take in London

    Hello,
I have exhausted all means of finding out when and where the Adobe InDesign CS5 ACE exam will happen in London this year.
I have called Pearson Vue and they have no idea, they still have InDesign CS4 ACE exam listed.
I have also called contacts at Adobe and nobody seems to know there either!
I would like to take this exam before Xmas, is this possible?
Is there anyone out there who knows?!  there must be somebody out there? ( :

The cause could be due to your user agent being mixed up as 3.6.12 and 3.6.13 versions. I think downloading 3.6.13 from www.mozilla.com and then uninstall your 3.6.13 and then install the 3.6.13 you downloaded should fix it in this case. Your settings are in a separate place ([[Profiles]]) and not in program folder.

  • InDesign CS5 DDE Error when exiting

One of my users gets a DDE error when she exits out of InDesign.
"DDE Server Window: InDesign.exe - Application Error
The Intruction at '0x##############' referenced memory at '0x##############'.  The memory could not be 'read'.
Click on OK to terminate the program"
She is using InDesign CS5 with the latest update applied.  I believe it was 7.04.  She is also using XP sp 3.  I've tried resetting her preferences, as I noticed was recommended, by pressing ctrl + shift +alt on boot and rename the file name from the user folder.  Neither fixed the issue.  If I start a new file it doesn't have this error on closing, but it happens when loading up an old file and closing out.
    Thanks

That sort of worked.  When I ran the initial export of the file and closed
there was no error.  If I opened the newly created idml file and closed it
would throw the same error.  I decided to look into a theory I had about
saving.  I loaded the original file that was giving me trouble.  I made a
small change, saved the file, and closed.  The error did not come.  I opened
the file again and closed.  The error was produced.  It seems it happens
when you load an existing file and don't save/export your work.

  • Indesign CS5.5 Crashes when exporting an Interactive PDF

My InDesign CS5.5 continues to crash when trying to export an Interactive PDF.
It begins to come up with a box titled WARNING but it all closes and i don't even see the error message.
Will it work if I deactivate and reactive? will that work by any chance?
    Its really frustrating.
    Yasmine.

Please upload the crash report to http://pastebin.com and post a link here.
I saw the "Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences" thread but am confused as to what I need to delete vs. rename or move.
It's teh same as the vulcan nerve pinch you tried -- I assume InDesign prompted you to delete preferences and you said OK.
What happens if you create a new document and Pages (panel) > Move Pages pages 1-83 to the new document, and then recreate 84 and 85 by hand? Does it work? Presumably this is document corruption of some sort.

As soon as i open InDesign CS5.5 on my Mac OS X 10.9.2 and try to start a document it freezes and the mouse turns into the colour wheel. It will continue to stay like that until I force quit the application. It used to happen in a trial version of InDesign CS5. I have updated my computer and reinstalled the application but it still continues to freeze. What can I do to fix it and is it an InDesign problem or a problem on my Mac?
