InDesign CS5.5 hangs on startup (Snow Leopard 10.6.8)

Newly installed CS5.5 from disc + online update. InDesign hangs shortly after startup.

Fixed by deleting the SING datastore folder, as per Adobe support document, which doesn't yet say it applies to CS5.5.

InDesign CS5.5 currently crashes on launch when launching from the dock or the app direct, throwing up a crash report (http://pastebin.com/8dNiiSWu).
This crash is from opening a Flash file (SWF) inside the PMWelcomeScreen plugin. You can try moving Plug-Ins/PMPack/PMWelcomeScreen.InDesignPlugin out of the plugins folder, as a workaround only. You won't get the Welcome Screen, but that's perhaps a small price to pay. Not sure which flash file it is opening and failing on. Are you behind a firewall?
If launching from a document, InDesign launches, throws up a crash report, but you can still work on the document. Can still print/pdf but on closing another crash report is thrown up.
Sorry, this doesn't really make sense. If InDesign crashes, you cannot continue to work in it. Perhaps you are getting confused by previous crash reporter dialog windows that you have not dismissed or submitted so were still hanging around. Also, sometimes they take quite a while to pop up -- not always contemporaneous with the crash.

I justed moved to Indesign CS5 on Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
I can't insert the glyphs.
I can open the glyph panel, I see the glyphs but when I double click they don't insert.
Does anybody know this issue and how to solve it?

Indesign CS5.5 hangs on startup

My Indesign CS5.5 (I'm running Macosx 10.6.7) hangs on startup and gets this crash log: http://pastebin.com/xDXmdrt4
I've tried removing the recovery folder, the settings prefs and the FontExplorer plugin... nothing helps.

Mikkel, if the problem goes away with a new account, it is almost certainly a problem with your ~/Library folder, and reinstalling InDesign does not touch that, so it is no surprise the reinstall did not help.
If you truly removed all the folders I specified, then I'm quite surprised it didn't fix it. Sometimes it is a permissions problem -- you
might check the permissions on those folders with Get Info in the Finder, and maaaaaaaybe try running Disk Utility's Repair Permissions (usually a waste of time).
If not, well, try moving *everything* out of your Library/ folder, and then putting it back bit-by-bit (well, half-by-half). This may be a somewhat unpleasant and potentially destructive process.

Why can't I open InDesign Docs in Bridge since Installing Snow Leopard?

I have CS3 Indesign. I have recently installed Snow Leopard. Since doing that I am unable to open Indesign files within Bridge. I get a very strange message that says 'missing required parameter 'from' for event open. What does that mean and can I fix it. If I drag my document to my desktop, most of the time it opens but sometimes it does not. I have to go up to the file menu and open from there. Is it a Bridge problem or is it an InDesign problem. Very annoying! Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?
Also since installing Snow Leopard, I am unable to open multiple files in Photoshop. Once again I am doing this from Bridge.
Any information would be most appreciated.

Setting Default Indesign program with multiple versions installed Snow Leopard

Hi,
when having 2 versions of Indesign installed (CS4 and CS5), Snow Leopard uses CS5 as the default application to open INDD files.
Typically if you want to set a particular program as the default program, you right-click on the file, go to "get Info", then "open with" and pick the applications from the pulldown menu and then click right below it "Change All". Typically now that program has become the default program. This has worked all the time except in this case. When trying to set Indesign CS4 as the default program for all INDD files (use CS4 99% of the time and all INDD files on the system were created using CS4) it will not let me use the "change all" button. It automatically goes back to CS5. I want Indesign CS4 to be the default program.
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Change file associations manually or have this freebie jewel do it for you. Most likely CS5 will take over again. Otherwise you can go fish on http://hints.macworld.com/ for another way.

New Intel 160GB SSD Hangs (pinwheel) on Snow Leopard Install

I'm hoping I'm just missing a step and not trying to get a faulty drive going. I just got a new X25 M Intel SSD. First I ran the Intel firmware update tool, and that seemed to go okay. Then I tried putting in the Snow Leopard disk and it just sits there with the pinwheel... It has EFI 1.7 if that helps. Not sure what else to do. It came with a 500GB 7200 RPM drive which runs fine. I'm looking to completely wipe and start over.

Upon further investigation, it appears to be either a faulty DVD or drive... I tried running the DVD with the old drive in and it still just hangs... so I'll bring it to the genius' at Apple tomorrow to see what's going on.

Indesign CS5.5 hang on loss of focus when opening files

I know there's going to be no quick fix but I'm going to throw this out. InDesign CS5.5 / 7.5.2 running on WindowsXP SP3 seems to hang when the program looses focus when a file is opened. The program will ocassionally lose focus if you click on the "update" button or if you select another application/window. The result is that the file will open but InDesign does not allow any actions. Just a "ding" when you click anywhere.
Besides the obvious "don't touch your computer", any fixes/ideas? Hang on update is really annoying, especially if you don't touch anything except the update button.

Hello all, sorry to bump such an old thread but this is the most similar topic I've come across to a problem some of us here are also having. I think the hidden alert is simply the update links progress bar, after playing with my monitors a bit:
but even with it active on the main monitor, the progress bar is stuck and cancel does nothing.
I have a theory that it is to do with linking to EPS files... but nothing to back that up.
This is InDesign CS5 and Win7
edit: I'm canvassing the other users here to see if it might be that file specifically.

I searched for Sing on my hard drive and there is something called Sing.indesign plugin listed at
applications\ adobeindesign cs5.5\ plugins \ text \Sing.IndesignPlugin
I tried to remove this but it just removed a copy and the problem persisted
also managed to send that file to trash but problem also persisted

InDesign CS5.5 hangs and running slow

My InDesign C5.5 is running extremely slow, some files are slower than others. When I create a text box and begin typing it will hang anywhere from 2-5 min on average. I've turned off the preflight function, set the Live Screen Drawing to Never, reinstalled fonts and still continue to have the hang ups. I've also tried exporting as .imdl, creating a new document then dragging the existing file to the new document via the pages panel. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. It's been years since I configured startup programs on a Mac. Can you still choose a custom set of extensions? If so you can build a basic set with network access and font book to try, but I'd like to know if ID runs without them, and how well. It will tell us a lot.

Multiple Safari hangs after installing Snow Leopard

I had 5 Safari hangs today within hours...never had one since I bought the machine in June 2009 with Leopard installed...Since the SL upgrade CD, I have had 2 system freezes that result in a complete shutdown to clear and multiple Safari hangs that I able to recover with a force quit..My daughter in college with the same machine reported that she had 3 system freezes in one day since SL...My wife who did NOT yet install the SL upgrade and is now blissfully having no problems at all and does not want to install the new OS (again same machine type, We bought 3of them in June after the announcement). I hope that this gets debugged and fixes provided...

Did you repair permissions after the upgrade?
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Problems installling Photoshop CS5.1 on Mac OS Snow Leopard Version 10.6.3

Hi I am having problems installing photoshop cs5 on a mac from a disk, when it gets to 26% it just freezes and I have to force an eject of the disk.
I am very new to macs with little training so any ideas much apprepriated.

You might want to update your OS (apple-menu > Software Update) and are you sure you have enough free disk space?

As you’ve discovered migration assistant rarely works with Adobe software.

InDesign CS5.5 crashing on startup

Every time I try and open InDesign, it crashes at the "Initiating plugins" stage. I've tried deleting/moving certain plugins, getting the Adobe plugins update, everything I've found online. Nothing seems to work. Help!

Have your tried deleting the preferences? The fastest way to do this for InDesign, InCopy, or any other program in the Creative Suite is to quit the program, then hold down the Command-Option-Shift-Ctrl keys (on Windows, hold down Control-Alt-Shift) while you start the program up again.
You may need to choose “Open” from the program’s contextual menu to get the program to boot up because you’re holding down modifier keys, but you’ll figure it out.
While the program starts up, keep the keys held down until the splash screen appears along with an alert offering to “Delete InDesign Preferences File?”. Release the keys and click Yes. InDesign will complete the boot-up process with fresh, clean Preferences to replace the sick one it just deleted. Test the program … hopefully, the problem you were suffering is now history.
