Indesign cs5.5 plugin issue

I have indesign cs3 with xmpie, it is a utility that does variable data. I am now on cs5.5 and every time I open a document that I worked on in indesign cs3, I get a missing plugin error and the file turns into a read only document with [converted] at the end of the file name. It is really annoying whenever I try re-saving the file.  Is there a way to get rid of this.

I've never had a problem converting one of my own files directly, but we see enough reports here from users who have unexplained file corruption after opeing CS3 and CS4 files in particular in CS5 or later that I now, as a matter of course, always export legacy files to interchange (.inx in the case of CS3) format for conversion.
As a bonus, it also recomposes all the text using the new text engine in the newer version, getting those nasty surprises out of the way, too. If you do a direct conversion the text is not recomposed until you touch a frame in some way which can give you a false sense of security. There is always the possibility, especially in longer docs with threaded text, that a line ending will change, affecting keep options or causing oversets, so check any conversion carefully.

  • Unable to debug indesign cs5 plugin in windows

    Hi, again. Originaly posted here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/766469?tstart=0
    We are having some problems with an indesign sc5 plugin, it works perfectly in macosx but in windows it causes indesign to crash. Anyway after some trouble shooting we tried running it in debug indesign. Problem is that the debug version of indesign wont even start, it fezzes in the splash screen on "Registering xxx plug-ins". It hangs before we can write anything in log files and thatching a debugger gives nothing. Closer inspections
    revealed that all the indesign treads is in "waiting" state. Waiting for what? Don't know. Killing one of the threads allows indesign to start but it will not have loaded the plugin and we are back on square one unable to debug.
    Anyway I installed the osx version of debug indesign and starting it gives an assert like:
    No translation of key 'com.adobe.rc.operationalmessages' to British string.
    BreakStrToDebugger
    ASSERT_FUNC
    Examining the stack of the indesign main thread in windows gives pretty much the same thing:
    0, ntkrnlpa.exe!KiDeliverApc+0xb3
    1, ntkrnlpa.exe!ZwYieldExecution+0x19ae
    2, ntkrnlpa.exe!NtWaitForSingleObject+0x9a
    3, ntkrnlpa.exe!KeReleaseInStackQueuedSpinLockFromDpcLevel+0xb14
    4, ntdll.dll!KiFastSystemCallRet
    5, kernel32.dll!WaitForSingleObject+0x12
    6, PMRuntime.dll!ClientShowAssert+0x8d
    7, PMRuntime.dll!BreakStrToDebugger+0x15
    8, PMRuntime.dll!ASSERT_FUNC+0x117
    9, NETAPI32.dll+0xbe86972
    (as reported by the ProcessHacker process viewer)
    So the win version is trying to show an assert window but fails, locking indesign in the splash screen? Stoping indesign before any plugin execution?
    As we cant get any debug information out we don really know what the problem is, making it rather hard to debug. We have triple checked the build and linking options. Studied the plugin exports. Inserted an ridiculous amount of trace statements in the code, doesn't work in the debug version but anyway.
    Have anyone had a problem like this or know what might cause it?
    What happens in the indesign startup process, what does the “Registering plug-ins” actually do? It's not executing any plugin functions and the the initialization of the plugins doesn't happen until later.

    You are correct in that none pf the plug-in code is executed during the "Registering ### plug-ins" phase. What is done here is simply loading the plugins by reading from their resource definitions. For example, if you try to load a CS4 plug-in in InDesign CS5 or if you try to load a release plug-in in debug version you will get errors and popups here and your plugin will not load and be available (these are just example errors and may not be relevant to your case). As far as I know InDesign should not crash just because there is a problem with your plugin, but there could be bugs.
    I would recommend:
    1. Remove your plugins and verify that InDesign debug starts properly without any 3rd party extensions.
    2. Compile one of the SDK sample plugins (debug target) and make sure that InDesign still starts properly.
    3. Create a new project using DollyXs, compile it and make sure it loads in InDesign.
    4. Remove the template files and add your own source files except the basic .fr file and make sure it still loads in InDesign.
    5. Keep changing things one at a time in your .fr file and verify it still loads until it looks exactly like your original .fr file.
    Good luck.
    Note: "No translation of key 'XXX' to British string." errors is in general quite harmless. It's only a problem with the string translation and should only affect string output in menus/dialogs etc. They should of course be fixed, but can generally be ignored for a while unless an infinite ASSERT loop prevents you from debugging.

  • Acrobat and InDesign CS5 file issue

    Hi everyone...
    My issue is that Acrobat won't or can't convert InDesign CS5 files. It opens Illustrator and Photoshop and converts them to pdf's but not InDesign.
    I've tried everything. I've even tried Adobe tech help. No luck. It was a relatively easy procedure in CS4, not to mention a time saver.
    Is there someone that knows how to resolve this? Please help as I'm desperate to avoid having to convert all my InDesign files one at a time.

    Hi Matthew-
    Our workflow often involves combining multiple IND files into a pdf.  With CS4, we merely opened acrobat, clicked "Merge Files into a Single PDF" and dropped in the indesign files we wished to combine. Presto- we had one PDF with all IND files put together without having to go through indesign.
    In response to your post, I only have CS5 installed, and it seems as though Acrobat doesn't recognize ID CS5 as a program at all.   I believe I am current on all InDesign and Acrobat 9 updates to date - I'm running InDesign7.0.2 and Acrobat 9.3.4.
    When trying to open IND files through Acrobat, Acrobat launches and gives an error message that states: "Please select a file created by an application that resides on your computer."
    Acrobat can't call InDesign CS5 to open at all.  Could this be because Acrobat was not updated along with the CS5 suite and therefore doesn't recognize the new CS5 Indesign files?
    I read another blog that mentioned it could be a registry problem- they ran CCleaner and ran the registry fix.  Then uninstalled and reinstalled both Acrobat and Indesign.  What are your thoughts on this method?  It's hard for me to try this on my own, as it requires an administrative login- our IT department has us locked out.  I would like another opinion before I ask them to help.
    Do you forsee a fix from Adobe in the future?
    Thanks for your help!

  • InDesign CS5 Stability Issues

    I got really fed up today.
    Trying to resize a magazine, all the articles are individual documents compiled in a book. So each "chapter" is at least 3 pages and at most 15.
    I adore the spanning columns feature, I've got sevral articles that this is very handy to setup. But I find the whole program is completely unstable when using this feature.
    I started removing the anchored text frames and applying the spanning columns for the headers, with a paragraph rule above for the background colour.
    But if I click around too quickly the whole program freezes and won't budge. I could be selecting an anchored frame to remove it. Or changing paragraph style, or simply opening another panel.
    I checked the Task Manager and watched for 15 minutes as InDesign consumed more and more memory - going from 150k to 650k in about 10 minutes.
    This happened a bunch of times. I restarted, reset my prefs, exported to idml, and all the other nick nack fixes.
    Indesign just keeps bombing out. At which point i have to end the process and then restart indesign and I lose a tiny bit of work.
    So frustrated today - over seemingly simple tasks, like selecting something, and the program crashes. This behaviour does not happen when I am not using Span Columns.
    Is anyone else having stability issues with CS5 and Spanned Columns?

    Thanks Bob
    I thought myself that there was a lot going on. And I appreciate that. But thinking about it, the only addition here is the spanning of columns and balanced columns.
    I was at one stage incorpartaing detect edges on an image and had to give up on it because there was a 3 minute delay on simple things like cutting the image (as a test).
    I just feel that perhaps more could be done in speeding up InDesign.
    I've had a hard enough time updating the software, upgrading the hardware is going to be tough.
    I don't think Indesign CS5 minimum specs included a supercomputer either?

  • Indesign CS3- plugin issue

    I'm having a problem with Indesign, within Adobe Master Collection CS3 in that when it's started up it comes up with an error message stating that the application or DLL "Sangamexport.apln" is not a valid windows image, and says to please check the installation diskette. This also causes Indesign to crash when right-clicking on a line or anything else drawn.
    This issue cropped up after updating to the latest version, as version 5.0.3 works just fine, however version 5.0.4 does not.
    While disabling the plugin does resolve the issue, being a site licence (I work for a school with several hundred PCs on a network with the application installed locally), and every PC that has the latest updates has this exact issue, repeating this on each individual machine is impractical to say the least. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
    The PCs are runnning Windows XP, service Pack 3

    Jitendra:
       While not specifically addressing this problem, I have obtained the UID (and then derived the UIDRef) of an image by getting the hierarchy interface of the container and then getting the child.  This is a snippet of the code:
        UIDRef ItemRef = UIDRef(db, ItemUID);  //  ItemUID & db (IDataBase *) passed into function; db
        InterfacePtr<IHierarchy> iHierarchy(ItemRef, UseDefaultIID());
           if (iHierarchy != nil)
              if(iHierarchy -> GetChildCount() > 0)
                 UID imageuid = iHierarchy -> GetChildUID(0);
    HTH.

  • Missing Indesign CS5 plugin

    I just experience failure on opeing indd file in indesign 5.5. As I have bought a new mac and restore the Adobe design preiume CS5. But I can't open indesign file even I have update it to the version 5.7. A pop up window said there are missing plugin, sharedcontent.indesignplugin. And few more plugins missing reported afterwards. I have been using koaren version before because I need the Chinese typography grid system. Is it related to the problem recently I have and else where can download the koearn version back. I found that there are poor support from Adobe while people need to restore old product on new imac with no CD rom....

    Download Adobe CS5.5 Trials: Direct Links (no Assistant or Manager) | ProDesignTools
    Follow the directions on the page exactly or it will not work.

  • CD4 and CS5 Plugin Issue!

    Having a major problem with Chameleon and CS4 and CS5. When I run the program out of CS4 or CS5:
    1) The Grab Fragment seems to work.
    2) When I open another photo and run Chameleon , Make Collage, I get
         1. Unhandled exception! Crash dump saved to c:\users\public\documents\akvis\crashdump.
         Please help! I’m running version 6.0.1253.3084-r
    I now get a message stating:
    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error.
    App terminated in an Unusual way.
    Contact app support.
    I used to run Chameleon in CS4 however now it does not run at all. I'm wondering if a Visual C file got corrupted or a fix is needed for Adobe.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Rudy

    Without knowing exactly what the bug is in the Akvis code, I don't know.
    But some third party plugins always need an update when new versions of Photoshop are released (especially those that try to modify Photoshop's UI).
    We work hard to maintain plugin API compatibility, and most plugins work just fine in new versions, but there are always some problems to work out in third party plugin code.
    (Macintosh plugins are going through a lot of problems in CS5 because we had to change the UI toolkit used, and many assumptions made by plugin UI code no longer hold)

  • Indesign CS5 Printing issue!

    Whenever I view my document in indesign the background appears white, there are no layers of any color, etc. But whenever it prints out theres a beige/off white background covering the whole page. It's not the printer because I made a new document and printed it with no issue at all.
    Please help!!

    What do you see in the print dialog under Color Management? Is the preserve CMYK numbers box checked? Is the listed profile the same as the document working space, or different?

  • Indesign CS5 Performance issue in Xenapp 6.5

    We are using Indesign CS 5 in Xenapp 6.5.
    There is a performance issue while launcing the Indesign (takes min 4 Minutes to launch) and while opening the documnet from the network is also taking time.

    Hi,
    How is the database server operating system coping in terms of CPU load and memory? and what is the db data cache hit ratio in ST04?
    I would look into the following things, network configuration between database and central instance, and the load on the DB server cpu load/memory and possibly the most important the DB2 memory and configuration instead of focusing on the SAP application server in case of high DB times.
    Please be aware of the fact that tables in upgrade from 4.6C to ECC increase from about 30000 to 60-70000 and db tuning is the most likely explanation for your problems.

  • InDesign CS5 transparency issue

    Hello everyone, first time poster so unsure if this is in the correction location
    The problem I am having is with transparency in InDesign; Im creating a newsletter, with images from various sources, but an image from photoshop seems to be causing me some grief. Its a normal PSD file of a simple "tick" with a transparent background, placed over a tint block. It looks fine in InDesign, prints out fine to any printer or pdf.
    When I sent it off for print, our litho printer, seems to re-print out pdf's to another pdf and sends their pdf back to us to proof (It's been a fair few years since I've worked in the print industry so I don't know if this sort of thing is standard). I'm sending our pdf's to them using the default "print quality" pdf setting from InDesign.
    The first image is a section of what we get back and the second is an image is of what we send. I've tried lots of different image settings, pdf settings searched the web. I suspect that this is something to do with re-printing pdf's from a pdf, and maybe something to do with the compression used?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for the swift replies!
    I've tried the mentioned options and cannot recreate the problem. I guess it's time to look for another printer

  • InDesign CS5 and CS5.5 Plugin issues.

    I'm having problems with a InDesign file created in CS5.5 and opening it in InDesign CS5. It's giving me PlugIns error messages.  I know there is a issue in this, but I have not found any solutions.
    Unfortunately, I cannot even go and export the file in InDesign CS5.5 as idml file as I no longer have CS5.5 at work.  How can I solve this problem without having to redo the whole job?

    When I open an InDesign CS 5.5 idml in my InD CS 5, the pictures don't show (only as grey areas). What can I do to make them visible (if I don't have the links on my computer)?
    As noted in your other thread, How do I make pictures visible in idml?, unfortunately you cannot.

  • Issue in setting bleed to a document as InDesign CS5 Server plugin

    Hello all,
    I am creating a new document in InDesign CS5 Server through C++ Plugin and trying to set bleed to the document. I have used the command to set bleed. But it doesn't seem to apply properly. I check in the debug version also. It show success to the command but when I open the document there is no bleed applied. I am using following command.
    InterfacePtr<ICommand> pageSetupPrefsCmd(CmdUtils::CreateCommand(kSetPageSetupPrefsCmdBoss));
    if(pageSetupPrefsCmd == nil)
    CAlert::ErrorAlert("Error in SetDocumentBleed function, pageSetupPrefsCmd is nil.");
    break;
    InterfacePtr<IDocSetupCmdData> docSetupData(pageSetupPrefsCmd, IID_IDOCSETUPCMDDATA);
    if(docSetupData == nil)
    CAlert::ErrorAlert("Error in SetDocumentBleed function, docSetupData is nil.");
    break;
    pageSetupPrefsCmd->SetItemList(UIDList(m_pDocument));
    docSetupData->SetDocument(::GetUIDRef(m_pDocument));
    docSetupData->SetNPagesPerSpread(1);
    docSetupData->SetPageSize(pagesRectangle);
    docSetupData->SetPageOrientationIsWide(bWide);
    docSetupData->SetUseUniformBleed(kFalse);
    docSetupData->SetBleedBox(bleedRect);
    ErrorCode error = CmdUtils::ProcessCommand(pageSetupPrefsCmd);
    if (error == kFailure)
    CAlert::WarningAlert("Command failed");
    Can some one please help me in letting me know what wrong I am doing in this command? This has become quiet critical for me.
    Thanks all in advance.

    Farzana.

    Hello All,
    I was able to resolve this by using IPageSetupPrefs instead of IDocSetupCmdData interface.

  • Blacklining plugin in Indesign CS5 issue

       Hi,
    My company recently upgraded their workstations to Windows 7 with Adobe CS5 standard and acrobat X. Now we installed Blacklining from http://www.blacklining.com/. My problem lies on the vertical line (sidebar) that the Acrobat distiller is producing.
    So the procedure is lets say Our client sent us a indesign file. Then we open it using inDesign CS5 with blacklining. and print it to using postcript file as printer and adobe pdf as PPD. with blacklining settings of marks: visible , deletion: caret and use sidebar is checked.
    Then we have it Distilled using Adobe Distiller. So the output file is pdf.
    My question and problem is how can we set the sidebar to always appear on the left side. instead on odd pages its on the right and on even pages on the left.
    Thank you so much

    Hi Buddy,
    try to correct settings in Blacklining Preference
    InDesign / Preference / BL Setup  ----------> Side Bar position
    Hope it helps.
    Note  :  Be extra cautious while using Blacklining plug-In with QuarkXPress or InDesign , as sometimes it make file unstable, ...sometimes.

  • Adobe InDesign CS5 Has Stopped Working (installation issue)

    Please allow me to preface this by saying that this situation is RESOLVED, but I wish to share what happened to me with others for information purposes as I couldn't find anything regarding this issue online last night (mind, I was quite exhausted so might have missed it).
    The situation:
    I have CS5 Master Collection Upgrade.  I performed the installation.  All apps working just fine EXCEPT Adobe InDesign (see error in title).
    Beating of head against the wall continues for five hours as I uninstall, use cleaner, defrag, reinstall (you know the routine) SEVERAL times (why I thought doing it just once more might make a difference is beyond me).  I knew this install should work because I was using the entire CS5 suite only a few days ago until my system suffered a serious failure and require reformatting, reinstalling etc.
    So... after a couple of hours on the phone with Adobe tech support (an almost first for me in about 15 years or so of using Adobe products), it was discovered that InDesign's plugin directory was corrupt (rather, one or more files were laid down corrupt).  Uninstalling and using the cleaner DOES NOT remove the temp/backup files.  I knew something was up when I reinstalled the upgrade and it did not ask for my CS4 code (even after using a M$ reg cleaner), and this confirms it.
    Also I noticed that InDesign is being laid down during the transition from Disc 1 to Disc 2.  A colleague of mine had an odd issue with his PC not accepting Disc 2 at first (a few weeks ago).  I can only conclude that for some people, and some installations (because my first installation was flawless), InDesign will lay down its plugins corrupt.
    As I said, this is resolved now (I copied over the plugin directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS5\Plug-Ins) from my colleague's PC where InDesign was working fine), but I wanted to share in case this spares someone else the pain and suffering I just experienced.
    The irony, of course, is I'm under deadline and of all the programs right now, I needed InDesign the most!  LOL.
    Cheers, everyone.
    Alex

    I am operating in Windows Vista.  The last time I used the program it was responding normal and it closed out normally.
    I haven't added any fonts and have cleaned out my recovery folder and it is still doing it.
    My machine froze yesterday morning and I had to do a hard reboot, but I was not working in ID at the time and it wasn't open.  Everything else is working normally.  Even though I knew it wouldn't work, I did uninstall and reinstall the program and of course that didn't solve anything.
    Any other advice is appreciated.  I am at a loss.

    How do I upgrade the plugins needed for my earlier version of InDesign CS5 so I can open a file in a later version of CS5?

    You can’t. You have upgrade or have whoever is send you files save as IDML. Don’t expect perfection.
