InDesign CS5.5 Trial + OS X Lion - startup failure

Hi everybody,
I have a serious issue with InDesign CS5.5 Trial on OS X Lion. On startup, even before the splash screen a crash report appears and that's the end of the story. The trace is here: https://gist.github.com/1694403. I have no idea what might be the problem. I tried trashing the preferences, as well as re-installing the trial, but nothing helps.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!

Yeah, tried that before...does not work...
ID does not even get to the point where it would re-build the Preferences...
I think there must be some weird combination of appliations or settings that prevent ID from working and AI from working properly.
Thanks for the effort, anyway...
Btw. there is some other guy that has the same symptoms (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4171095#4171095), however, there is no solution posted in the thread. Maybe he will return and tell me what is the problem or which app makes the mess...

  • InDesign CS5.5 Trial Version Crashing on Startup

    Hello,
I am experiencing an issue with InDesign CS5.5 Trial Version from the CS5.5 Design Premium suite where shortly after startup the program crashes and gives me the spinning wheel of death(mac).
In both of these scenario, Opening an Existing Document or Creating a new Document, I can create/open the document but then immediately after the document opens into the workspace the application stops responding.
Here is the setup i'm working with:
    Apple iMac (iMac11,3)
    intel core i5 2.8ghz
    4GB RAM DDR3 1333mhz
    ATI Radeon HD 5750
    1TB 7200rpm HDD
    Magic Mouse
    Wireless Keyboard
    OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.7
The system is a brand new system and has all of the most recent software updates for OSX. The only fonts installed are the system defaults and MS Office 2011 fonts.
I've tried uninstalling/re-installing several times and am met with the same results.
Any help or support would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    d_rek

I feel like it's a week for crashes and hangs, alas. Well, it's Friday!
The best advise is to  Trash, Replace, Reset, or Restore the application Preferences: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990.
If you're lucky, that fixes everything.
Terminology: a crash is when the program actually detects a fault and exits. If you just get the beachball, that's a hang.
Hangs are more difficult to debug, but go to Activity Monitor, select InDesign, and choose Sample Process. Upload the output to pastebin.com and post a link here, and we'll tell you how to proceed.

  • Problem extracting InDesign CS5.5 trial - error message "illegal seek"

    Hi,
trying to download Indesign trial CS5.5
I think the file downloads, however when it trys to extract I get a box appear saying
    "the following disc images could not be installed;
    InDesign_7_5_LS1.dmg - illegal seek"
I can't open from the actual  file either.
I have tried downloading multiple times.
    Can anybody please help!
    Thanks

    Hi Lucy
I just spent a few minutes on Adobe Live Chat. They provided an alternate link to download the product -- hopefully bypassing the Download Assistant which I think is the real problem. We'll see. Here's a link to them if you want to try it. I'm re-downloading it now and am hopeful.

We have discs to upgrade CS4 (design premium) to CS5.5.
My ?? is will this work for a re-install and what is the process for doing it.
    Thanks!

  • Adobe InDesign CS5.5 trial

    I have downloaded the trial.
On starting the product, it informs me that I have 30 days remaining.
On clicking Start Trial, I get an error "Adobe InDesign is not properly licensed and will now quit",
quickly covered by a pop-up window saying "Last trial Launch - don't lose out"
Clicking Continue Trial from the pop-up returns me to the first error message.
Clicking OK causes the product to close.
what needs to be done so I can trial this product, please....

You need to run with admin priviliges. These errors usually occur, if the program cannot access or store licensing info.

  • InDesign CS5.5 always crashes on initial startup

I have ID CS5.5 on my windows 7 machine, and for some strange reason it ALWAYS crashes the first time I start the software. After the initial crash, I can open any documents normally, so admittedly it doesn't impact productivity that much. I was just wondering if anybody else has had this problem, and has found a solution for it.

What is your operating system? Is ID patched to 7.5.2?
If you have a crash report, see Guide to Interpreting InDesign Crash Reports | InDesignSecrets or post it on Pastebin.com and put a link here.

  • How to uninstall and reinstall Adobe InDesign CS5?

My Adobe InDesign CS5 stopped opening properly. Upon startup all the menu items were grayed out and unaccessible. Adobe Chat support advised me to uninstall and reinstall CS5.
My other Adobe programs are working fine. (CS5 photoshop, illustrator, acrobat, etc.)
    MacBook Pro OS10.9.3
Anyone know how to uninstall and reinstall CS5?
Unfortunately Adobe chat service no longer supports this function on this older software.
    Thanks for your help.

before you go to the trouble of uninstalling/reinstalling--try this (it's called resetting the preferences)
OOPs--I forgot that I was in the indesign forum
There is a quick and easy method for doing this using the keyboard: close and relaunch InDesign, and IMMEDIATELY hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences. There are two downsides to this method, however. First, you must be extremely fast on the keyboard (if you don’t see the confirmation prompt, you were too slow), and second, anytime you replace the preferences you will lose most program customizations, and using the keyboard method leaves you with no backup to restore them when the problem turns out to be something else.
My preferred method is to CLOSE INDESIGN and do a “manual” prefs replacement, which consists of finding and renaming the two files which make up the preference set: InDesign Defaults and InDesign SavedData. BOTH of these files should be replaced at the same time. You can delete them, but renaming or moving them will give you the opportunity to copy them back in the event that new prefs doesn’t cure your issue. When you restart ID, the program will look for these two files, and when they are not found, a new default set will be written.

  • InDesign CS5.5 13x19 on R1800

When printing 13X19 from InDesign CS5.5 on OS X Lion to R1800 with Gutenprint 5.2.3 driver and Printer Settings set to Photo Glossy paper, Super Photo, the output is shrunk to a fraction of that size. To rememdy, checked for driver update, restarted hardware, checked settings, i.e. deselected scale to page. A test page at default setting of 13x19 plain paper does not produce the same unwanted shrinking effect. Suggestions?

Export a PDF and print that.

  • InDesign CS5 crashes on startup - Mac OSX Lion

    Hi Everyone,
I've reinstalled InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator CS5 after upgrading to Mac OSX Lion,
Photoshop and Illustrator work fine but InDesign crashes on startup.
I've followed a few threads on here, one suggested creating a new adimistrator-level user on my machine - and that works, but I can't figure out what to fix in my regular user to make InDesign work in here again...
This is the error report I'm getting:
    http://pastebin.com/a2LrMFdw
    Help, anyone?
    Thanks a lot!

I'm having a similar problem but I haven't been able to get it to work. I created a new administer level user but InDesign still won't open under that user. I've tried the other suggestions as well with no success. Please help!!!! It really doesn't help that I'm in South East Asia traveling with no fast internet to be found.  :\

  • Indesign CS5 Lion Start-up Crash

I just got a new MacBook Air with OSX Lion preinstalled, and have transferred files over from a snow leopard mac using migration assistant. After that, Indesign CS5 will not start on the air. I have tried updating the software several times, and nothing seems to work. Photoshop works fine, as does indesign on my other computer, but it crashes on startup, after the splash screen mentions something about installing plugins which never work. What should I do?

I've migrated from a Snow Leopard using the migration tool to a new Lion preinstalled machine. And I have the same problem. Both my CS5 and CS5.5 crashes on startup. Other Adobe CS-product work fine as far as I've testes - positivly photoshop and illustrator.
It crashes at the same time weather I open the program through a file or open the application directly from my HD (see screenshot)
My startup status-line init with "Initialising .."
    Then "Loading the application .."
    Then "Registering 233 plugins .."
Then "Saving object model .." (a fraction of a second)
Then the status line "Initializing plug-ins .."
and it crashes shortly theirafter (2 sec after) on my specific machine.
My CS5 crashes same way and same exact point in the startup procedure.
My hardware is 2.3ghz core i7 macBookPro with 8Gb 1333 Mhz DDR3 ram and a primary solid state HD with room the spare.
    Any help is appreciated

  • InDesign CS5.5 Keeps Crashing on Startup

Anyone having trouble with InDesign CS5.5 crashing on startup after installing OS Lion....
    please do the following:
    1. Run Uninstall on InDesign CS5.5
    2. go to your User/Library/Preferences and delete the folder called "Adobe InDesign" this will be invisible after loading Lion.
so you'll have to show invisibles by going to your terminal window and typing
    open terminal and type:
    defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
and now relaunch finder by typing
    killall Finder
    done.
    3. Re-install InDesign CS5.5 and it will work.

Just for anyone reading, while the terminal change will show the Library folder, it's not necessary unless you want all invisible files permanently shown. Hold down the Option key and choose the Go menu in Finder. The user Library file will be shown and can be selected, without needing to make any changes via Terminal.
    Regards.

Have just down loaded Yosemite over Mountain Lion, Indesign CS5 does not work ( Am dependant on it) although Bridge , Light Room and Elements operate OK How do I solve this rapidly. Can any one help on this issue. Thanks

Sorry to say it, but I think you can see from Bob's response that there's no way to solve this rapidly.
Did you take an image of your Mountain Lion install before upgrading to Yosemite? Roll back to that. If you're not in the habit of taking a snapshot of your system before performing operating system upgrades - get in that habit. If you are dependent on anything at all on hour computer, having a reliable backup method in place is essential. If you don't have a Time Capsule, or some other way to run Time Machine onto a disk that's not in your computer, go set that up yesterday.
If you can't just remove Yosemite and roll back to Mountain Lion for whatever reason, you can partition your drive so that you can install both Yosemite and Mountain Lion on the same drive, and then boot into Mountain Lion when you need to work in CS5. Or you can take your Mountain Lion disc (I assume you have one, no?) and then use it to create a virtual machine in something like VirtualBox to run Mountain Lion from inside Yosemite.

  • InDesign CS5.5 hangs on startup (Snow Leopard 10.6.8)

Newly installed CS5.5 from disc + online update. InDesign hangs shortly after startup.
Found some suggestions in this thread on CS5:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3116186
Fixed by deleting the SING datastore folder, as per Adobe support document, which doesn't yet say it applies to CS5.5.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408816.html
    Hope this helps someone.

InDesign CS5.5 currently crashes on launch when launching from the dock or the app direct, throwing up a crash report (http://pastebin.com/8dNiiSWu).
This crash is from opening a Flash file (SWF) inside the PMWelcomeScreen plugin. You can try moving Plug-Ins/PMPack/PMWelcomeScreen.InDesignPlugin out of the plugins folder, as a workaround only. You won't get the Welcome Screen, but that's perhaps a small price to pay. Not sure which flash file it is opening and failing on. Are you behind a firewall?
If launching from a document, InDesign launches, throws up a crash report, but you can still work on the document. Can still print/pdf but on closing another crash report is thrown up.
Sorry, this doesn't really make sense. If InDesign crashes, you cannot continue to work in it. Perhaps you are getting confused by previous crash reporter dialog windows that you have not dismissed or submitted so were still hanging around. Also, sometimes they take quite a while to pop up -- not always contemporaneous with the crash.

  • Indesign CS5 7.0.4 crash on OS X Lion 10.7.2

Hi folks, I need some help determining the issue for a constantly crashing Indesign CS5 7.0.4 (English) on OS X Lion 10.7.2. I have submitted the crash log to Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/PGtMjjAU. It seems that the crash occurs when Indesign calls the code to obtain/check the license. [Note that the CS5 Design Standard I run is fully licensed. Photoshop and Illustrator do work properly.]
So far, I have tried to completely uninstall CS5 using the uninstaller provided by Adobe and then to start Indesign before and after applying all current patches through the Adobe Updater. However, the behavior is still the same.
I have checked the permissions of the Adobe Indesign preferences folder and ruled out problems with the SING plugin. Also, I have unsuccessfully tried to start Indesign after replacing Indesign's com.adobe.amtlib folder by the one from the Photoshop directory.
I already observed the same crashing behavior before updating to Lion 10.7.2, so it should have nothing to do with the update. While none of my ideas have helped, running Indesign on the Guest account does  work!
Thanks for any help or pointers.

John, thanks for your post! As far as I know, InDesign CS5 has never worked for me since I have updated to Lion by doing a clean install of OS X. I did not notice this right away, because Photoshop started up okay, so I assumed the other programs of the suite would, too.
Before performing the steps you mentioned, I uninstalled the Creative Suite (with 'Deactivate' license), ran the CS Cleaner Tool and deleted all other CS5-related preferences files I could find. Additionally, I cleaned out the dyld shared cache. Then, I redownloaded the CS5 Design Standard installer and installed CS5 with the default options. Note that I'm using only the stock plugins and have no additional fonts, except the MS Office for Mac fonts, installed. Here's what I could gather from the logs:
    PDApp.log - http://pastebin.com/9KHtgNqA - contains no warning/errors related to InDesign; install log CS5 Design Standard 5.0 10-21-2011.log - http://pastebin.com/LqmNVKKz - shows no errors, only unrelated warnings.
dyld output - http://pastebin.com/bV0G0SWS - shows exception after fully loading the adbeape.framework library; the crash report - http://pastebin.com/GkN2qBWQ - still has the crash at com.adobe.amtlib
After trying to run InDesign as the first of the CS5 programs, amt3.log has not been created at all; swtag.log - http://pastebin.com/4ZrdPEL6 - exists and shows no warnings/errors or crashes.
Then, I tried to run Photoshop: It starts just fine and dyld has no trouble linking the com.adobe.amtlib library: http://pastebin.com/E5XYTB5n. Photoshop also creates the amt3.log file - http://pastebin.com/LBnJKjCU - whose messages indicate that the CS5 Design Standard is licensed and was sucessfully validated/activated. swtag.log was updated, but contains similar messages to http://pastebin.com/4ZrdPEL6. However, InDesign still crashes.. Updating the whole Creative Suite to the latest patch doesn't help.
Can you spot anything in the logs?
