InDesign CS5.5 v.7.5 won't open some files because it needs plug in updates, but it won't let me upgrade
I have InDesign CS5.5, v.7.5. I'm trying to open a rather large file with lots of images, but it says "Please upgrade plugins/latest version", but when I tried to update it with download 7.5.1 through Adobe Patch Installer, it keeps saying "update is not applicable." Or it will almost install and then give me an error code.
InDesign will let me open certain files, but not the one I really need. It was working properly a few days ago.
This InDesign subscription I got was in Feb 2012 though my school. Help!
If you are using CS5.5 it isn't part of a subscription to creative cloud (hard to tell if that's what you mean), so you may have a newer version of InDesign installed as well (they are not mutually exclusive). That said, the last patch for CS5.5 was 7.5.3, but it doesn't really matter in this case. That warning indicates the files were saved in a newer version of InDesign and cannot be opened in CS5.5.

I have Adobe reader installed. However, I am unable to open some files because it is asking for Adobe's approval to open the files. How do I do this please?
That message is NOT from Adobe, and has nothing to do with Adobe's approval for anything.
Quite the opposite: Adobe Reader is NOT YET RUNNING, Adobe aren't involved. Some other app or program is putting out that message. Have you tried giving that permission? -
I had this problem of not being able to open some files a couple of years ago and eventually was able to fix it but i can't remember how. Any help would be grateful.
The following document should help: Error: Adobe Reader could not open '*.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and was not correctly decoded.)
Please update this thread if your issue is resolved.
Thanks,

Your Answer Tech Shayne M has ended your chat session. Thanks for visiting Answer Desk.Hey guys,
So this is follow up from my debarkle with the EDD. I found out my problem with copying files from Mac to EDD and vice versa was a result of a not so good EDD ( i had an apollo hard drive from imation) that was not very compatible with macs. So i did my research and found out that the best hard drives were Western Digital and Seagate. I bought the newest western digital EDD 1TB and formated it to FAT32 and guess what...no problems so far. The only problem is that FAT32 format doesn't copy files larger than about 4 gigs so i couldnt copy a movie from my brothers computer onto my EDD that was 1080p. You could probably resolve that by partitioning a small part of your hard drive in ExFAT? but yeah, hopefully that helped guys.

Why can't Adobe and others make things straightforward for those who aren't computer nerds?
And why can't you contact PERSON to give help?Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications

The SLT77 II requires Camera Raw 8.5 or later which is only compatible with Lightroom 5.5 and later.
Lightroom 4.4 will never be able to open Raw files from that camera.
Why doesn’t my version of Photoshop or Lightroom support my camera?
You can either:
Upgrade to Lightroom 5.5, or
download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all Raw files from your camera to DNG format then open the DNGs in Lightroom 4.4.

Adobe Reader 9 won't open some files -- jp2klib.dll
I've had this problem for some time, and I think I've at least narrowed it down a bit. The problem is that some (but not all) PDF files cannot be opened in Adobe Reader 9.x on some computers, though they open fine on others. When you click on a problem file, or try to open it from within AR 9, the file may begin to display, but very quickly you get Windows' message "Adobe Reader 9.2 has encountered a problem and needs to close." AR then crashes; or rather, Windows shuts it down. The crash report gives the following basic information:
AppName: acrord32.exe AppVer: 9.2.0.124 ModName: jp2klib.dll
ModVer: 2.0.0.4526 Offset: 00032c0d
I tried copying a different version of jp2klib.dll that was on my computer, but that did not help.
This problem only occurs on my desktop, not on the laptop, so it seems to be due to some interaction between jp2klib.dll and a specific driver or piece of hardware.
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? There isn't any video acceleration. This is a pretty old computer. I've got a Samsung 912N flat-screen monitor, an HP DeskJet 6940 printer, an Epson Perfection 3170 scanner, an RCA cable modem, and a U.S. Robotics MAXg wireless router attached to it, as well as an ancient Compaq mouse and a Fellowes Glidepoint touchpad.

Won't open a file because it ends in .py!?
I wanted to run the spell checker on the "help" text in one of my Python programs and because it ended in .py Pages wouldn't open it. It's just a text file. I changed the extension to .txt (the file's default is still to open with Emacs, so nothing else about it seemed to change) and Pages opened the it just fine. This Pages program is a bit of a mess with it always wanting everything to be in Pages format. It's kinda like using a Microsoft product, except worse...Microsoft doesn't always keep insisting you use their format. It's off to www.apple.com/feedback for me.
I couldn't get TextEdit to show me the spelling errors even though the preference is turned on "for new files". I cut and pasted the program into a New window, but it wouldn't do it. Pages would do it (heck, this web page text box is doing it :)), but I had to change the extension. I can't spell, so I was just checking the Help for the users. I can't imagine WRITING code in Pages. I put a bug in Apple's ear, so we'll see.

I am running Photoshop CS6 on a 2013 iMac with OSX version 10.9.2.
1) As of today, Photoshop no longer recognizes NEF files. This has never happened before, and the files are coming from the same camera I've used for the past five years.
2) I receive the following message when I attempt to open a .jpg file "Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete)."
This is also the first time this has happened, and happens with EVERY .jpg file I attempt to open.
3) Both of these errors ONLY happen when I am opening files located on the work server. I hit COMMAND K to connect to serveral work servers -- my work space, shared collaboration folder, and an image archive that was recently moved. If I grab the file that I want and transfer it to my desktop, and open it with Photoshop from there, it works fine.
I have run all updates.
I'm not sure if this is a Mac issue (with regard to accessing the work servers) or a Photoshop issue.
Any help is appreciated.
ThanksPhotoshop does "play nice" over networks, but seems to catch more OS and server bugs than other applications (mostly because we've added more error detection code over the years after dealing with many OS and server problems).

What do I do when Adobe Flash needs to be updated but Safari won't let me??
I have an iPhone 3g and every site I go on that has any kind of content that needs flash I cant view. I go through the Adobe site via the Apple.com all the way to the down load part, click install and then I get a prompt that Safari won't allow the install. Why? is their a way? Please help!!
No - this must come from Adobe.
If content on a website is provided with flash, Adobe doesn't have a flash player that is compatible with the iPhone.
If or when Adobe provides a flash player that is compatible with the iPhone - one that Apple approves, it will be included with a firmware update, or made available via the iTunes app store. -

Photoshop CS5 won't open .kmz files
Photoshop CS5 won't open .kmz files. I did a fresh install of Google Earth, opened it, saved a place, and saved a .kmz file. It reopens fine in Google Earth.
When I try to open it in Photoshop, this message pops up:
File Format Error
This file is from a previous version of Google Earth or it is not a Google Earth file
I get this message regardless of the following:
- ps is closed and i right click the kmz and choose ps (rather than google earth) to open it
- ps is open and i double click the kmz
- ps is open and i choose file/open and select the kmz
- ps is open and i have created and saved a new psd file, then choose 3D/New Layer from 3D File/ and select the kmz
I have tried the usual remedies, change rwx permissions, repair permissions, delete prefs. No luck.
Any thoughts? Software versions are below.
Thanks.
- Photoshop CS5 Extended 12.0.4 x64 (doesn't work in x32 either)
- Google Earth 6.0.3.2197
- OS 10.6.8I was trying to see (since Photoshop Extended touts the ability to open kmz files) if I could open a 3D Google Earth file and edit it in Photoshop. A file like this for instance http://ecotope.org/anthromes/maps/. After more research I've learned that kmz is nothing more that a container format - you can change the extension to zip and see what's in it.
I ran across this tidbit in the Photoshop CS3 Extended forum:
Photoshop CS3 Extended supports the ability to import .kmz files created from Google Earth 4 or exported from Sketch-up in the Google Earth 4 format. Photoshop CS3 Extended cannot open Google Earth files. If you have a Google Earth file, you can convert it to a Google Earth 4 format with the free version of Sketch-up.
So, theoretically if I could get a kmz into Google Earth 4 format, I could open it in Photoshop. But I haven't had any success importing a kmz or kml into SketchUp. Even just making a native sketchup file and trying to import that in psd gives a ram error.
Probably I'm wishing for the moon. -
InDesign CS5.5 keeps crashing when I open a particular document
InDesign CS5.5 keeps crashing when I open a particular document. This suddenly started happening a few hours ago, and other files are unaffected. I downloaded a backup from last week and that was fine, but I need to get this latest version working again. I've cleared out the Recovery folder, deleted Preferences, and even reinstalled InDesign - all to no avail.
I'm running Windows 8.
Any help gratefully received!Even after emptying the recovery folder?
It's either a damaged install or a bad font or some other conflict. Do the font trouble-shooter first, then move to checking for a conflict.
To check for a conflict, go to the start button and in the Search field Type msconfig to bring up the configuration utility. Open it, go to the Services tab and click the box to Hide All Microsoft Services. You can uncheck just about anything that's left (for diagnostic purposes) except FLEXnet Licensing Services and a service starting with ##ID_String... which are part of the Adobe licensing sytem and need to be active for Adobe product to run.
Now switch to the Startup tab, and uncheck everything except your mouse driver and the Adobe Service Manager for this version.
Reboot. Ignore the warning about startup in diagnostic mode for the moment and Launch ID and see if it works. If it does, go back msconfig and add back startup programs in groups, rebooting each time and repeat the test until you get a failure. If all the startup programs work, repeat with the services tab. If nothing causes a problem I have no idea what's going on.
On the other hand, if ID fails again straight off with all that stuff disabled, the installtion is corrupt. Run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) and reinstall while still in diagnostic mode, then run msconfig one last time to restore normal startup. -
Dreamweaver CS5 won't open any files from a project
Hi,
I'm working on a simple website. I work on it from 2 different locations (home and work), and the files are stored on a removable USB disk. The problem is that for some reason Dreamweaver won't open any files made on the other computer. It shows the sitemap, eveything. But when I click on a file, nothing happens.
I've tried a couple of things:
1. recreate the site in the site manager - still the same problem
2. remove the preference folder - still the same problem
The only solution is that I have to copy the files to my desktop, recreate the website in the sitemanager and then it works. But only if I copy the files to my desktop, any other location on my HD (not the removable USB disk) simply doesn't work.
Does anybody know why this happens? Or even better, does anybody have a tip of how to workaround this problem?
thanks! The D600 was first supported in Camera Raw 7.3 which is only compatible with CS6 and later - not CS5 unfortunately.
