Indesign CS5 and CS5.5 missed INX

If cant able to delete the colors from swatchs that time export to inx and open it in text editor and find the color value and just delete it in Indesign CS3.,
But we missed inx in CS5 and CS5.5, Hope everybudy know that .INX is replaced by IDML,
If in case we face the above issue how can we solve it,

If this is just to delete colour swatches that you can't get rid of any other way there's a faster way that might work.
Make an object that uses the swatch.
Cut that object to a new InDesign document.
Save and close that new document.
Place that new document into the original document.
Delete it.
You should be able to now delete the swatch.
It's taken me longer to type this than it would have to do it!

  • Why isnt Indesign CS5 showing "missing" fonts in the same way as previous versions?

A font in our layout is not displaying as italic (this is one of those situations where there are several weights in a font family and the italic is called Gotham Book Italic and not just Gotham Italic) and not highlighting at all in the layout with the pink box.
When you select the problematic type, the window shows it as [Italic] which would be fine on its own but when I go up to FIND FONT to find and replace all instances with the proper Italic font, it doesnt show up at all as a font, let alone as an issue.
So far, purchasing CS5 Design Premium seems to have been more trouble than its worth.

I think maybe it would be a good idea to run the file through .inx or .idml. See Remove minor corruption by exporting

  • InDesign CS5: italics missing from imported Word document

While working on a book, I've come to notice that some italics in the original Word document didn't make it into my InDesign document.
I'm doing some tests (with different import options) right now but so far I don't understand the logic of it. The missing styles, only italics, can be "real" italic or "faux" italic.
Before posting the result of my tests, I'd like to know if some of you have encountered the same problem?

@ Peter Spier: thank you for the script, very useful.
As you can read below, I'd prefer to avoid importing all the styles from the Word files. When you have 300 Word documents, the cleaning in InDesign can become a tedious task…
So, I've made some tests, the Word file I'm using comes from my client. In one ¶, a group of words is set in faux italic (typeface Times New Roman) in another ¶, the same group of words is also in faux italic. I guess, since Times New Roman has a true italic, that Word uses the true italic. I can see that from the shape of the one-story "a".
    1. import the original Word document (as received from my client), use a custom Import Option which ""Remove Styles And Formatting From Text And Tables" but "Preserve Local Overrides ". I don't want to get the styles from Words, especially when the sources are diverse but the import has to retain Italic + Bold.
results: one group appears in roman (typeface Minion Pro Regular) and the other in italic (Minion Pro Italic)!
    2. import the resaved Word document from Word 2011: .doc and .docx, import options unchanged
    results: same as 1.
    3. import the original Word document, use another custom Import Option which "Imports Styles from Word", which I'd rather not do but…
results: both groups appear in Italic now

  • Reinstalling Adobe InDesign CS5

Got a new computer and have to reinstall my InDesign CS5.  Got on website and clicked on File 1, unzipped file and then clicked on File 2 and got this error message:  "File archive missing.  Need all parts in same folder in order to extract InDesign CS5.  Download all parts."  What should I do?

    Hi Jeff,
I was on that website and I downloaded File 1 of 2 and that is fine.  When I try to download File 2 of 2 it gives me an error message that says:  “The file archive part of InDesign CS5 is missing.  You need all parts in the same folder in order to extract InDesign CS5.  Please download all parts. “  Now I get this message after I have downloaded File 2 and when I click on  it to Run it.
    Any suggestions?

  • I am running InDesign CS5.5 and trying to open an In Design File but getting an error message. " Cannot open the file "PDavidLCover.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file

I am running InDesign CS5.5 and trying to open an In Design File but getting an error message. " Cannot open the file "PDavidLCover.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file me be open in another application."Please help I really need to get this file open.

Since you've shown us the folder contents it's a good bet it isn't in use (no lock file). And it doesn't look like the file is mis-named as there doesn't seem to be anything else there that would be the .indd file (but just in case, open it in TextEdit and paste the first few lines here so we can see what the file header says), so the most likely case is the file is damaged. Is that on a removable device of some sort?
You can try the tool at Repair corrupt InDesign Adobe files on Mac OS X  or send me a link to the file by private message and I'll try the recovery tool I have for Windows.

  • InDesign CS5 for Mac crashes on opening file. Have replaced References and all other suggestions.

I am having a problem with InDesign CS5 crashing when I try to open a file that formerly opened just fine. Even restored versions from Time Machine or that I had a backup saved on an external hard drive will not open. I recently had to reconstruct a 90 page magazine for the same reason. I heard that Extensis Suitcase might be causing the problem so I disabled the plug-in, but still can't get the file open. The file in question is full of tables and would be a nightmare to redo. I am running Snow Leopard. It will open briefly and tell me that fonts are missing, then crash.

I have already disabled the Extensis plug-in and am activating the fonts
manually from within Extensis. It's the very latest version, Suitcase
Fusion 3, and it warps my chops that it doesn't play nice with InDesign.
I got rid of the Mindsteam grammar plug-in also and sent a tersely
worded letter to the vendor. When you pay nearly $200 for a plug-in, you
expect it to work. I don't have time for this aggravation! I truly
appreciate the help I've gotten here. This has certainly discouraged me
from using any third-party plug-ins. I was ready to go back to Quark
Xpress. For the moment, everything is behaving.

  • DPF.pln missing in InDesign CS5.5

    Hi,
We are generating package of document using InDesign CS5.5. while generating package InDesign is showing error that DPF.pln is missing.
I have checked on Google and got this link:
    http://www.proximasoftware.com/fontexpert/plugins/missing-fonts-loader
I did the same but still the problem is same. Please help us.

Exporting the file to .idml should strip out the missing plugin info. See Remove minor corruption by exporting

  • InDesign CS5.5 Won't Place Word 2011 Files (Mac); Missing Filter?

I'm confused. I opened approximately 15 Word files, cut all the photos, then saved them as Word 97-2004 files. Then I opened an InDesign CS5.5 file and tried to place each Word file but I keep getting a "No filter found for requested operation" error message. I was able to place a couple of the files but I got the error message for all the rest.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

Hi Robert, we haven't seen you here for a while. Welcome back.
    Thx
I know Jongware complains bitterly that Word import can be really flakey. Did you try daving as plain .doc, too? Seems like MathType equations are also the subject of a fair number of posts, too, but I'm not sure they are really a similar problem. I don't suppose there's any way for you to convert the eqations to .ai or PDF and still use them as links in Word, or to embed rather than link?
I'm working on big tool to automatic mass processing big number of Word files. One of the steps is to prepare Word files with MathType equations for further manual processing. I have a macro (for Word2010) to automatically  export all equations to EPS files. The next step is to reImport EPS files back to Word - so they will be imported into InDesign as linked files and then they could be automatically correctly positioned withing the text.
The problem is - I've done reImport step in Word2000 - as 2nd macro - and it works perfectly fine for DOC files saved from Word2000.
Of course I can do this in InDesign - but I think it would be faster in Word.
I think missing import of the linked files for DOCX files is a BIG bug ...

  • My InDesign CS5 has recently been acting up, its missing the toolbar along with other problems.

My InDesign CS5 has recently been acting up, its missing the toolbar (and yes it checked all the tabs and so on). My question is with uninstalling the program and then re-installing it solve my problems? Its been acting up in other ways as well such as I can"t use shortcuts anymore and the tabs on the top seem to be missing some normally present features. What should I do as a senior in college with a design show coming up I really need my InDesign CS5. Thanks in advance

  • InDesign CS5 and InCopy CS3

I work at a weekly newspaper, and we have been using and InDesign/InCopy workflow for several years. The Reporters use InDesign CS2 (never did get around to installing the CS3 upgrades we bought because at first the computers they use wouldn't handle it, and after the computer upgrades got done all around, no one ever bothered). After the stories are written, the editor reviews them in InCopy, then releases them to the page designers who are now working in InDesign CS3 as part of Standard and Premium Suites.
We are considering upgrading to InDesign CS5, but absolutely NONE of the reporters or the editor needs (or will ever use) the listed improvements included in InCopy CS5. Since there are nine InCopy products in the office, and as everyone knows the economy sucks - especially for PRINTED NEWSPAPERS these days, we really hate to have to upgrade just for upgrades sake.
I have downloaded InDesign CS5 trial to check if our CS3 files will open and work in it, after reading an article published in the Washington Newspaper, a publication put out by the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association, reported that one of the state's newspapers happily upgraded to CS5 and had a nightmare of problems just opening their CS4 files. This has my editor very nervious about us upgrading. So... I'm testing it out, and I can't place, then open and edit our CS3 Incopy Files. I get a message that says "this story needs toa be converted to "InCopy Document" format to edit it. I've saved it in InCopy CS3 to both incx and incd formats, and both receive the error. Has Adobe made simple InCopy files incompatible with InDesign? I can import files from just about everywhere BUT InCopy??? The Sister Program?
Please advise a simple work around, or I'll bet our upgrade is totally put off.
    Daria Lacy
    The Reflector

    Bob,
I have to feel that you aren't really reading my posts. While I did mention that our reporters and editor lessentially use InCopy for a word processing program, I did specifically mention in my last post that we use the program for exactly what it was originally intended, for reporters to write and edit, for designers to layout the text, and for writers/and or correction people to get into the files and fix problems - up until the last minute, so yes, we do need to use InCopy, in the manner we were told it was developed for. We don't use it for viewing layouts - that's what InDesign is for.
PLUS, none of our reporters have time, inclination or need to view the layout as it appears in InDesign. If they did, we'd get InDesign for them. They are busy investigating and writing stories, they don't have time to learn even the basics of layout, and frankly, they don't even want to. The one single reporter that is interested has learned some of the basics of InDesign, but she doesn't use it on a regular basis, and dosn't need or want to view the pages. She does need and want to edit a story occasionally even after it's been placed into the layout, but she want's to view it as the same copy she wrote, so she can do it quickly, not as a page layout she has to hunt thru it and every other story on the page to find the problem.
I don't mind Adobe stopping selling older versions - don't blame them at all on that one - if you're buying a new product - go buy the latest and greatest. If the version didn't matter, you wouldn't have to worry if about matching your other versions and you wouldn't need to find an old version. But why BUILD IN obselecense in a PART of a system within just a couple of years. We're using CS3 InDesign, yes, but we bought it just shortly before they came out with CS4. If we'd known when the release would be (we don't track the industry close enough to be checking on when release dates are "expected" to be) we'd have probably waited the 4 months and upgraded to that. But time wise, we haven't had the CS3 THAT long, so I don't go along with the "two versions back is too old" theory.
I'm afraid I don't quite see why the text fit would change from one version to another when the fit is based on font, text size, etc. And that doesn't change, Times Roman, 10.5 point on 10.7 leading...  And as far as split/span/balanced column features and mutiple page sizes - those aren't going to affect our work flow at all. All we need is the ability to write text, and edit that text from other desks besides the designers, as well as the designers being able to open the file to fix headline size in InDesign.
As for the reporters getting the trial version and trying it out - did you miss where I mentioned that we provided CS3 to all of them, and pretty much none of them bothered to load it onto their computers??? They don't want any bells and whistles. They want to keep going as they are going.
If they wanted to go to the latest and greatest - it'd wouldnt' be an issue - but they don't need or want it, why should they be forced to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading?
And that also brings up the issue, when we buy those 7 versions that aren't going on computers with InDesign (and the whole rest of the Standard and Design Suites) who wants to bet me that it's gonna take more hard drive space, more ram, and there's a huge potential that it ain't even going to fit on their computers and still leave room for it to think?
And just one other though - just because backwards incompatibility is a fact of life in today's programs - does that make it good or right?
What this basically means, with no specific NEED for the designers to upgrade to InDesign CS5, and the requirement that if they do we'll have to upgrade not only the reporter's versions of InCopy AND most probably, their computers, we will probably put off upgrading and wait another year and a half for CS6.

  • [AS][CS5] Find and replace a missing font

I have an overly complex script that compares the document's fonts missing fonts to the system fonts and makes a best guess. It was written to handle conversion of Multi-ad Creator documents to InDesign. It has worked 100% of the time so far. It needs a LOT of cleaning up and tweaking to make effecient, but that is not the point of my question. Everyday I am sent an InDesign file I have to work with and everyday it will has a missing font. Arial (OTF).
I ran my script thinking it would replace it with Arial (TT). No problem...
    Ran it... nothing.
When I use the find dialog in Indesign to search based on the applied font it works, the returned properties in AS contain:
return properties of find text preferences
    font:"Arial (OTF)"
    Ok, fine so I try...
    set properties of find change text options to {case sensitive:false, whole word:false, include footnotes:false, include hidden layers:false, include locked layers for find:true, include locked stories for find:true, include master pages:true}
set applied font of find text preferences to "Arial (OTF)"
set applied character style of change text preferences to "Page&Header"
        tell document 1
            set myFoundItems to change text
        end tell
    Nothing.
This has pretty much worked on every other font I've tried, so what am I doing wrong here?

    All right, back at it....
I've run into even more fonts that it is an issue with. My basic thoughts on this are as follows: When bringing a document from Multi-ad Creator to InDesign the fonts are named in a way that InDesign does not recognize them. The thing is those fonts are really fonts that are on my system. It is simply a matter of rearranging the name of the applied font to match what InDesign would recognize. The thing is InDesign will allow me to use Find/Change to modify the fonts in the document.
Now the fonts I've run across that give me an issue are fonts that do not correspond to any font on my system. I do not have any TrueType fonts, this document I opened today did...
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5"
        set myDocument to active document
        tell myDocument
            set myPage to page 1
            return properties of every font
        end tell
    end tell
     {{font family:"Helvetica (TT)", PostScript name:"Helvetica-Bold", parent:document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", index:1, name:"Helvetica (TT)     Bold", object reference:font "Helvetica (TT)     Bold" of document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", status:not available}, {font family:"Helvetica (TT)", PostScript name:"Helvetica", parent:document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", index:0, name:"Helvetica (TT)     Regular", object reference:font "Helvetica (TT)     Regular" of document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", status:not available}, {font family:"Times (TT)", PostScript name:"Times-Bold", parent:document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", index:3, name:"Times (TT)     Bold", object reference:font "Times (TT)     Bold" of document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", status:not available}, {font family:"Times (TT)", PostScript name:"Times-Roman", parent:document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", index:0, name:"Times (TT)     Regular", object reference:font "Times (TT)     Regular" of document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", status:not available}}
Ok, so let me try this (commented out are the different ways I've tried):
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5"
        set myDocument to active document
        tell myDocument
            set myPage to page 1
--return properties of "Helvetica (TT)" --"Helvetica (TT)     Bold"
return properties of font "Helvetica (TT)" -- "Helvetica (TT)   Bold"
set myDocumentFonts to name of every font
        end tell
    end tell
Adobe InDesign CS5.5 got an error: Unable to retrieve the font's UID from its name.
I was able to get the properties of the font using:
    return properties of every font whose PostScript name is "Helvetica-Bold"{font family:"Helvetica (TT)", PostScript name:"Helvetica-Bold", parent:document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", index:1, name:"Helvetica (TT)     Bold", object reference:font "Helvetica (TT)     Bold" of document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", status:not available}
Now I thought of trying the following:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5"
set find text preferences to nothing
set change text preferences to nothing
        --Set the find options.
        set properties of find change text options to {case sensitive:false, whole word:false, include footnotes:false, include hidden layers:false, include locked layers for find:true, include locked stories for find:true, include master pages:true}
set applied font of find text preferences to every font whose PostScript name is "Helvetica-Bold"
set applied font of change text preferences to "Helvetica"
        tell document 1
            set myFoundItems to change text
        end tell
    end tell
Now this does result in something, the find of the Find/Change dialog is looking for Helvetica + Bold. The only problem with that is it isn't looking for the TT font.
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5"
        set myDocument to active document
        tell myDocument
set myfind to properties of every font whose PostScript name is "Helvetica-Bold"
        end tell
set find text preferences to nothing
set change text preferences to nothing
        --Set the find options.
        set properties of find change text options to {case sensitive:false, whole word:false, include footnotes:false, include hidden layers:false, include locked layers for find:true, include locked stories for find:true, include master pages:true}
set applied font of find text preferences to name of myfind
set applied font of change text preferences to "Helvetica"
        tell document 1
            set myFoundItems to change text
        end tell
    end tell
And nothing happens.. other than it trying to search for Helvetica + Bold
I'll try some other ideas later when I have more time.

  • Missing words creating PDF with Acrobat 7 (newly installed InDesign CS5)

Since a few days I have some curiosity creating PDF files!
Randomly the PDF output is missing whole words in the document but having spares in the right tracking for them in the document.
It occurs that the missing words are subject to another font however not all words in this font are missing in the document.
Also my printer tell's me if he's going to print the PDF (in this case a serial letter with pre-stamped addresses) his computer is breaking down completely and also printing hieroglyphs.
This document was printed from MS Word 2003 with "Adobe PDF" as printer.
I also use FreePDFXP, though the same error comes up.
In addition I tried several settings for the PDF with no effect in the outcome.
I am still working with Acrobat 7 (from CS2 suite) under WinXP Professional SP3 and hadn't any problems before installing my InDesign CS5 upgrade a few days ago.
I only can assume that the problem is InDesign CS5 but cannot prove it.
Anyone an idea on how to solve the problem?!
I am really annoyed about this since for the pre-stamped letters I already paid money to the mail service and the need to be in the mail today - otherwise I am loosing several 100 Euros to the paper-bin).

    Thanks for your feedback.
However I checked all the settings in the joboptions. All fonts are to be embedded (100%) and I also actively selected the fonts to be transferred.
I am using TheSans from LucasFonts as Open Type.
For my document I have SemiLight as standard style and Bold for accentuation.
While the bold style will be printed in "bold only" lines, it is not printed in lines/paragraphs where also the SemiLight style is used.
When I change color of the words in bold, the effect inverts and only the bold style words are displayed but not the SemiLight text!
I have a second laptop with the same system and software configuration (Win XP Professional SP3; Acrobat 7), where the same document runs smoothly.
That's why I assume, that it must be the Indesign CS5 upgrade causing trouble (it's the only new addition to the first laptop).
Unfortunately Adobe has no answer here also.
The only solution would be to adopt my documents for this effect and follow the logic of the machine instead of my mind...
As we do so often since invention of computers...

  • InDesign CS5 and CS6 Scripting Changes/Incompatibilities

I'm new to InDesign scripting and need to write a very complex Javascript for InDesign using the Toolkit. My concerns are if CS5/5.5 users will be able to run the script written for CS6. Are there known incompatibilities with the different releases? If so, where can I find a document to compare the differences. I will probably need to support both CS5 and CS6 (and anything in between), so a possibly solution may be to build for CS5, but if I do, will I be missing out on any key new features of CS6?

There are differences from 1 DOM version to another and they can and will break your script if you haven't designed it to handle them. For example:
If you want to use script labels like me (because they are awesome) the following will break if you use CS5 or later:
    app.activeDocument.pageItems.item("myLabel").remove();
So you'd have to force the DOM to V6.0. But when doing so remember to revert back to the original version after you're done or you'll create bigger problems. This can be done like this:
    app.scriptPreferences.version = 6.0; // CS4's DOM version
    app.activeDocument.pageItems.item("myLabel").remove();
    app.scriptPreferences.version = 10.2; // Current CC DOM version
This is very inconvenient (for me at least), so I wrap functions that require DOM changes with a custom version changer to handle this for me. In regards to a list of incompatibilities? Not sure, maybe someone here has one, I know Jongware has a website with all the DOM changes from 1 version to another. This can be found here:
    Indesign JavaScript Help
    Hope this helps.

  • Indesign CS5 file keeps locking and won't save or undo

    Hi Adobe forum,
I've recently bought Indesign CS5 and I've already had two problems in two days with the software. I've got a new macbook pro.
The first problem was when exporting a file down to CS4 with the new IDML file format it kept sending it to the background export panel, but it then wouldn't process at all. This was annoying as i couldn't then save or cancel the exporting file. I found a way around this by first exporting a pdf and then exporting the IDML file... it seemed to get it all kickstarted. Please fix this bug Adobe.
The second problem I've got is: I opened an Indesign CS4 file and then saved it as a different file name. I then opened this new file and as soon as i tried to make a few changes it wouldn't let me save or undo or redo anything. This was very odd, and annoying. I checked the file info and nothing was odd and permissions was read and write. Any idea how to get around this? Is there a secret unlock / lock button that I have pressed somehow?
Let me know if anyone can help.
    Campbell

Paka222, please start a new thread for your problem. It's not the same as the year-old problem that started this thread. (Maybe someone can lock this one?)
I opened my CS3 files and then successfully saved them several times, but part way through a job, the file froze up and I couldn't undo or save. When I closed the file it asked me if I wanted to save so I said yes, but then it gave me the message that the file could not be saved. In one of the CS5.5 help sections it said to export as IDML file and then reopen the file if you are experiencing problems saving converted files. I did that but it did mess up the file a little (added drop shadows to a bunch of the photos that did not have drop shadows). I'm hoping this will fix the problem, but it isn't a consistent problem so I have to test it. Are you running any type of auto-activation plugins for fonts? I just set up my Fusion 3 font auto-activation plugin for CS5.5 this morning and the problem occurred on the same day. If the IDML fix does not work, I'm thinking it may be the auto-activation plugin since I've read about similar issues before with third party plugins.
You should try exporting your CS3 files to INX and opening that in CS5.5.
If you see a problem when you export to IDML, it most likely means that your file was corrupt from the start. I guess it could also mean you have identified a bugin the IDML export, but I think that is not the likely case.
Given that there are known issues with Suitcase interfering with some background tasks (Preflight), it's not surprising that it might interefere with another (Export).

  • How to make previous version documents(CS1 and CS3) without extension  readable in InDesign CS5

I have some previous version documents of CS1 and CS3  on Mac  which have been saved without any extension e.g 300, CS3doc etc.
When I open such documents in InDesign CS5 they appear to be unreadable .  Only on  selecting 'All documents' filter  I am able to open those documents.
I want to make all such documents (which are without extension) readable with 'All Readable Documents ' also .
How I can do that, please  help me !!!!!

The first thing I'd do is make sure the issue is really what I suspect it is - i.e. I suspect your extension-less documents don't have the proper type and creator.
If you fire up a Terminal window, you should be able to use the GetFileInfo command to check one of the files:
Assume 'sampleFile' is sitting on your desktop, you'd do
    GetFileInfo ~/Desktop/sampleFile
(not sure when/whether GetFileInfo is installed on a Mac - I think it used to be part of Apple's developer tools, but on my Snow Leopard it resides in /usr/bin)
Check what it says for 'type' and 'creator'.
If these are not correct, we've confirmed that that's the reason why they don't show up in your file dialog.
If the issue is type/creator related, I can think of the following options:
    a) Change your code to accept ANY file type/extension - I suspect this would work (not tested!):
    openFileDialog->AddType( '????' );
If memory serves right, '????' should be accepted as a wildcard.
    b) correct the file types BEFORE they are viewed in the File Dialog - for example, if these files are in a very specific folder somewhere, you might be able to scan the folder, and correct their type and creator (e.g. iterate through all extensionless files in folder 'xyz' and change their type and creator). A lot depends on how those files get there, and whether they are tied to a specific folder or not - are they 'old' files, or are they being generated in some workflow? If they're all over a user's system or all over a file server, such pre-scanning and cleaning up file types approach will be a no-go.
    Cheers,
    Kris
