InDesign CS5 crashing on 2012 MacBook Pro
I have a 2012 MacBook Pro and am running CS5. My InDesign keeps crashing every time I try to open it. After googling the issue, it appears that happened to a lot of people running CS5 on a 2012 MacBook Pro. Does anyone know how to easily resolve this issue? Illustrator and Photoshop work fine.
No, you'll have to contact Adobe if you want to upgrade to CS5.5. sig just gave you the link to teh Roaring Apps website that lists comapatible software for use with Lion and Mountain Lion. If I were you, I would just go ahead and update to CS6 - or begin using Adobe's Creative Cloud. Since I had purchased a qualifying product (CS6 Design and Web Premium) I was eligible to subscribe to Creatiev Cloud for only $30 per month. Even at $50 per month, it's a great deal - all of the Adobe software you'd ever need for about 1/3 or less of your cable bill.
Good luck - check out the free one month trial of Creatiev Cloud - http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud.html.

Indesign cs5 crashing on bootup - Macbook Pro
Hi guys,
My version of Indesign CS5 on my macbook pro will no longer boot, it crashes every time and spews out the following error:
Here is the error I get - http://pastebin.com/GNbv9XRx
I've tried a few fixed based on others problems, such as removing fonts etc but no joy!
If anyone can offer up a solution to fix this it would be greatly appreciated....hey I might even buy you a beer!
TomLooking at the crash report I think you have a problem with Extensis font management, and I see you need to update ID to 7.0.4.
If there was a file open when the program crashed, ti may continue to crash on launch if the recovery data is damaged. Find and empty the InDesign Recovery folder in your user library.
I't a hidden folder, so if you don't know how to find it, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion -

my hard drive crashed on my MacBook Pro crashed and I need to get my CS5 up and running on the new hard drive. I copied what I could onto an external hard drive but when I drag and drop I get directions to uninstall but the uninstall folder I have does says it is an alias that is no longer present. I get error 6. I would like to get my software up and running on the laptop again please
If you subscribed to iTunes match the songs are kept in icloud. If you didn't but you did save the actual iTunes library folder which should include the music, video, etc. you should be able to just drag this file back to your machine in the same place and when you open iTunes it will give you a chance to identify the iTunes library folder.
You can test this to find out if you saved the media files or not and don't need to attach your nano to do it.
You are correct that once you connect the nano it will clear the existing files from it and sync it with the new iTunes library.
If you don't have the media files i'm not sure if/how to get them back on a windows ipod. I have everything backed up regularly because of the horror stories I have seen & heard. -
When I open a Indesign file using Indesign 8.0.2 on MacBook Pro OS 10.7.5, once the file is open, Indesign immediately closes "crashes"

The blogs were saying its the Icons in the dialog box. I replaced them to no avail. Remembered that Idv8 is looking specifically for "ITC Zapf Dingbats," a very common font that is opened in my Font Book (FB). Weird, if its opened why does IDv8 count it as missing.
Here's where it get interesting—I went to the FB, turned off Zapf Dingbats—boom no more problem. I opened various documents without one crash. I tested several memory intensive commands in Id—no problem. I reopened the Zapf font and the program loaded the font fine. I closed other fonts to make IDv8 look for a missing font, the dialog box came up looking for that font —no problem. It seems to manifest only at Zapf Dingbats
This morning I opened Idv8, it crashed. I closed the Zapf and wah-la — opened. I reloaded the Zapf no problem. My guess is that it is that stupid Zapf Dingbat font.
Thinking about using suitcase fusion. will this help? -

Yosemite 2012 Macbook Pro grpahics problem
Hi,
I guess this problem is directed at Apple rather than the users of this forum.
My trusty 2012 Macbook Pro has become a nightmare since upgrading to Yosemite. I run my own business and use my machine primarily for Autocad, Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator. I am having all sorts of crazy graphics-related issues - freezing, crashing, buttons appearing without text, rapidly flashing rectangles in finder to name but a few.
I've read the forums and there seems to be hundereds of people experiencing the same problems, after reading the various threads, a workaround seems to be turning off transparency, which has improved things somewhat, but its made the interface ugly.
My machine has gone from being solid, slick and a joy to work with to something ugly, difficult and undpredictable. I'm really, REALLY fed up about this, I cant go back to Mavericks because I havent got a bootable image of the OS as its always been installed from the Apple servers.
When will this problem be fixed? There doesnt seem to be an official statement from Apple about this anywhere and in the meantime everyone who's parted with a princely sum of their hard-earned cash for their laptops are left with a pale, watered down, flakey version of what was once a brilliant machine.First be aware that you are NOT addressing Apple, but fellow users like yourself.
A possible solution to your problem may be as follows.
If your MBP came with Mavericks installed, by booting the MBP with the OPTION + COMMAND + R keys, it will connect you to the Apple servers and allow you to install the original OSX.
If you MBP came with Mt. Lion or Lion, you should have a copy of Mavericks in your App store account. Download it from there.

InDesign CS5 crashes during Packaging
OK. I searched and some people experienced this issue (InDesign CS5 crashes during packaging). Some said it was because of corrupted fonts.
So I tried replacing Adobe OpenType fonts which I know won't have any issue (Optima). But, it still crashes. I'm really out of ideas.
It crashes everything when the status dialogue bar says "Saving Document..." and then it just freezes there for ages. Then InDesign CS5 became "Not Responding".
Someone please help. At the moment I've been manually packaging. Frustrating!
I'm on Snow Leopard, 2011 i7 MacBook Pro, 4GB RAM and CS5 Design Premium.
Thanks.John Hawkinson wrote:
Please do post the link, as Bob suggests, so others can benefit.
Anyhow, your crash is in the the Cooltype manager inside the Font Manager.
This definitely does point to a font problem. Most likely a corrupt font, but possibly a corrupt SING issue (oh boy...).
What is SING issue?
John Hawkinson wrote:

Huh?
By the way, the file was herited from previous job... and I didn't do the previous job. So, I didn't set up the file. I'm just updating it.

OK, your (oh boy...) is freaking me out.

I wanna do a restore system font. Do you think that would do?

Thanks for the link. Just realised it explained SING. -
2012 Macbook Pro running slowly since mavericks update
Since updating to Mavericks when it was first released my macbok pro has been running very slowly. Starting up apps takes longer, hangs occur when switching between apps or even browser tabs, when i close the lid the laptop won't go to sleep but instead heats up and i can't listen to a song on itunes the whole way through without several 20 or so second pauses. I have tried repair permissions (this oddly improves performance when its running), resetting NVRAM/PRAM. resetting SMC and a Hardware test but nothing worked/ no problems identified. The problems still occur in safe mode and when i added a new user. I also removed any apps or software that could be causing it such as chrome but this didn't help.
Similar problems occured the last time i update the mac, though they were much more severe and lead to the hard drive being replaced at the apple store. It had been running smoothly until the mavericks update.
After looking at similar posts i took the liberty of providing the following information:

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you have tried a lot of good troubleshooting steps. Since the behavior persists in safe mode and a new user, and you have effectively ruled out third party software conflicts, I recommend reinstalling Mavericks next:

Can anyone give a list of upgradeable performance parts for a mid 2012 macbook pro 13"?
I have a non Retina display mid 2012 macbook pro that I want to do a home refurbishment and mass upgrade on, the processor and graphics cards are both good as is but RAM gets a bit bottlenecked with only 8gb, Id like to be able to replace the built in speakers and possibly upgrade the optical/super drive as well If thats not too large an Endeavor.
I'm mostly a comp work virgin, so I want to make sure what I want to do isn't too tricky
Here's my etrecheck to check my specs on

Blue wallpaper showing on 2012 Macbook Pro
I have a 2012 MacBook Pro 15" running the latest Mountain Lion software. Today, when I turned it on, the wallpaper was a blank blue colour (normally it uses a folder of my custom images). I had to go into system preferences to recheck the boxes. I then added another desktop, and that came up with a blank blue wallpaper, which I then had to go into system preferences to fix.
This has only happened after the latest mountain lion update, which makes me wonder if it is something to do with that.
Any help with either fixing the issue or any reseting that needs to be done would be verymuh appreciatedNo, you'll have to contact Adobe if you want to upgrade to CS5.5. sig just gave you the link to teh Roaring Apps website that lists comapatible software for use with Lion and Mountain Lion.

Software Update issues on 2012 MacBook Pro 15"
Picked up my shiny new MBP today and set about installing everything on it, and running software updates.
It's currently running 10.7.4.
The software updates were glacially slow, but I waited, did other work on my iMac and eventually, they completed.
Then installed iWork '09, and run software update again.
Again, the software update was slow, so I tried downloading the iWork 6 / 9.1 patch manually.
17KB/s. Connected via wifi. Said it would take an hour to download a 78Mb patch.
I tried downloading the same file on my iMac.
50KB/s.
Tried running a test download from my ISP's test site on the MBP.
634KB/s - ie: normal.
I've since downloaded (on the MBP!) patches for Office, a bunch of different apps, and download speeds were on par with my iMac, and what I expect from my network in general.
Right now it's downloading the Jave JRE from Apple via ethernet and is, once again, glacially slow.
So this isn't a "Why is my MacBook Pro is slow on WiFi?" discussion, it's a "Why are my downloads from Apple servers so slow, and why is my 2012 MacBook Pro with Lion almost 1/4 the speed of my 2007 iMac with SL?"
And am I the only one?Hey, thanks for your idea, but it seems to have set me back even further.
Initially, I couldn´t use the disk utilites on the start up disks I have, as the Disk Ultility kept crashing. So, I connected my MBP to another mac (G4) in target disk mode and used the other G4´s disk utility to repartition the disk as GPT, as it was set to Apple partition.
So the disk is now Mac OS extended Journaled and the partition scheme is GUID partition Table.
I then disconnected the two macs and booted the MBP up from the startup disk again to run the installation.
But, now, the installation doesn´t even see the harddrive at all.
So, I double checked the harddrive is fine. By connecting it a second time to the G4, in target disk mode, and ran dick verification and repairs..... the G4 can see the drive and it´s telling me everything is perfect.
I really think this is a software issue, rather than a hard-drive one, as I seem to be going around the houses, repartioning and reformatting the hard-drive which seems to be working perfectly when connected to any other computer.
Any other thoughts? -
My 15" 2012 macbook Pro keeps freezing. How do I amend this issue?
It's always while I'm browsing the internet in Chrome, usually when music is being played through the browser, on youtube for instance (though I don't know if that's relevant or not). The whole screen just freezes and the sound stutters. I'm always forced to restart the computer in order to solve the problem. I've pasted the crash report below for reference, does anybody have any suggestions?

The cursor disappeared and the machine became unresponsive. The screen froze without the typical kernel panic backtrace appearing. I let it sit for a few minutes and the clock did not update. I forced it to shut down by holding power button down for 5 seconds. Upon reboot I got the following crash log. This log lead me to your post.

I'm running Mavericks 10.9.4 on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13 inch without retina (2.5 GHz i5 with 4GB RAM), and I have often been experiencing an infinite pinwheel when watching YouTube videos on Chrome and Safari both. I recently had my computer wiped to replace the logic board so I don't have much on it at the moment. I cannot use Command+option+escape to force quit the browser when this happens as I press the buttons without any result. Thus, I need to power down the mac to get back to the home screen. I've tried to reduce the applications active at start up but nothing else yet. Would appreciate any inputs.

Mid 2012 macbook pro glitching, freezing, overheating
Starting a few weeks ago, I noticed a change in my mid 2012 macbook pro. My laptop was losing charge EXTREMELY quickly, I would charge the laptop to 100%, and just an hour later (after not using it, but the lid closed and it was sleeping) it would be up to 60% charge, then when not in sleep and on, it would lose energy extremely quickly. I always make sure that unecessary background apps are not running--so that was not the problem. This problem went away after a week, but it was the first signal that something was wrong with my laptop.
Next, the laptop was having problems with waking up from sleep, I did an SMC reset and this problem was fixed.
After that, the laptop started glitching (static and banded lines on the bottom of the screen) and making this clicking noise when I was streaming video fullscreen on Netflix. I thought at first, that this was a problem with Silverlight, and reinstalled the silverlight plugin (several times). Then I noticed that the computer would glitch when I was streaming full screen on Netflix and picked up the laptop (moved it from a flat surface). This signaled to me that the problem was perhaps not software, but a hardware issue. I verified the disk and did a permissions report and neither were curative.
Further support that the problems are with hardware rather than hardware came to me when my computer presented itself with a fourth issue: the laptop, when being lifted or moved from a static surface, would sometimes freeze entirely and make the same clicking noise. This problem was not during fullscreen streaming, but had spread to when I was simply using more than one app at the same time (e.g. having Chrome and Word open together). When this happenend, the only solution would be to power down the computer and restart.
Finally, while sleeping with the lid closed in my backpack, I hear a whirring noise--I pick up the laptop and it was hot to the touch, overheating with the fans running on high speed.
I have no clue what is going on. I have taken the computer to my university's mac shop and they have suggested it is a logic board issue and I should give the computer in. I have scoured the forum for an answer of what is happening and am determined to find one. So I pose the problem to you--any help would be appreciated. Thank you.Hardware Information:
