InDesign CS5 debug version?

Hi there,
I found an email address here: <http://www.adobe.com/devnet/indesign/indesign_faq.html> except when I tried to send an email to that address, the email came back with an error saying there's no such user.
Could someone please point me to the right direction?

To reproduce these messages, just do the following:
- Start InDesign CS5 debug (I have Version 7.0.2 (Build Number 521))
- Create a new document
- Create a new text frame
- Insert a table
- Create a rectangle and place any picture in to it
- cut the you just created rectangle and paste it into the table cell. Then it looks like this:
- Copy and paste the text frame with the table
Then it looks like this:
- Close InDesign CS5 debug .
Does anybody know why?

I downloaded and installed Indsign CS5 debug version today. I can start it whitout any Problem.
Have you tried to remove the plugins in question?

i have windows 7 on my machine with following specification.
1. processor-->Intel(R) core(TM)i3 2100 CPU @ 3.10 GHz
2.Installed memory(RAM)-->2GB
3.System type-->32 bit operating system.
Also i have installed following softwares on my machine,
a)VS 2005
b)VS 2005 SP1
c)VS 2008
after that ,when i install InDesign CS5 Debug vrsion,it will get a long time, up to 20 minutes to lonch.
after that 10 to 15 minutes for response,it is very slow,
if any one have solution for speed up the performance of InDesign CS5 Debug vrsion then,please reply.

I had similar performance problems with old(er) and similar hardware - 2gigs, 32bit os, Core 2 duo.
I have bought a new machine and developing with the Debug version is now a pleasure.
My machine is now:
i5 M560 @ 2.67GHz
8GB RAM
64 bit windows 7
The performance is really nice, even with the MemoryTracker.dll.

It could be a one way trip.
There have been instances where your older version was more stable for CC as an exported idml.
Prior to ver 7 (?) text engines were occasionally updated which would cause text to reflow in later versions.

Yes, It's technically possible to create plugins without the debug version, but there will likely be bugs that go unnoticed...
You need a partner account to get the debug version.

I have downloaded the indesign cs5 debug windows installer from adobe partnerr site, installer build is 355.
I have sucessfully installed it on my windows machiine.
On running the application I have got following Aseert message one after another.
- Cannot load plugin FONT MANAGER.RPLN
- Cannot load plugin SING.APLN
- About to use nil interface ptr! Queried IID was FontMgrPrefix + 4 (0x3e04), on Boss kWorkspaceBoss
Then aftter Indesign application gets crashed.
Please note that I did not load any third party plugin.

Help with importing PDF to Indesign CS5 trial version

Hello: I am in a bit of a quandry. I have numerous PDF's that I want to convert to Epub. I called Adobe and asked them what program I would need to do this and they said InDesign CS5 so I downloaded the trial version to check it out. The problem is, that in the trial version there is no "place" command, which is how I would import the PDF. So I am left unable to run a test with this software and don't want to buy a program that I can't confirm. Any ideas or work arounds would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

The trial version of InDesign certainly does not have any features disabled. You should be able to place pages from a PDF file into an InDesign document.
File=>Place or Ctrl-D should yield a file dialog for you to select a file to place. Of course, you must already have opened an existing file or created a new file.

After finally having access to the InDesign CC SDK I am now presented with the problem of debugging a built plugin. Where can i get the InDesign CC (9.2 specifically) debug version?

You can try ask Adobe. There used to be 3 levels of partnership with Adobe that alowed you to download debug version of InDesign.

ObjectModel ID multiply defined issue in CS5 Debug

In InDesign CS5 Debug version, when my plugin loads I get numerous asserts as follows:
ObjectModel ID kTextStoryBoss is multiply defined by plugin 0x201 & plugin 0x40300
ObjectModel ID kVOSTextObjectBoss is multiply defined by plugin 0x40300 & plugin 0x201
ObjectModel ID kAttrBossListBoss is multiply defined by plugin 0x201 & plugin 0x40300
ObjectModel ID kCopyOneStyleCmdBoss is multiply defined by plugin 0x201 & plugin 0x40300
.so on
My plugin ID is 0x40300 and the plugin ID 0x201, I believe, is of InDesign's Text plugin.
I have not defined kTextStoryBoss, etc., in my plugin. It seems IDs are clashing. I tried using the ID generated by DollyX.
Still the same problem. Can anyone point me what could cause such asserts? Or how can I fix this?

These are some points that you need to check to get the cause of your problem
1. Check whether in your id.h file you have used the correct prefix for defining the class id & implementation ids.
2. Try commenting out the decleration of class ids and implementation ids from the id.h and see if it removes the error, this way we could get to the declerations that are actually causing the problem.
3. Use a plugin ID obtained for Adobe, or for testing purposes you could use the plugin id of any of your previous plugins that worked fine to look if it resolves the problem.
4. Search your project for any use of "0x201" or the inclusion of "TextID.h"(mainly in your id.h) or the macro kTextPrefix.
5. The plugin ID generated by DollyX is not guaranteed to be unique, because generally it shows the id that it generated previously which is basically set by you. So again it's as good as using a random id by urself. So the best bet is to get an ID obtained from Adobe.
Hope this helps you to find a solution.

ETA for InDesign 10 (2014) Debug version?

So apparently the new InDesign breaks plugin compatibility and requires a new Debug version of InDesign 10 (2014).
Since we're in the middle of developing an InDesign plugin and we'd like to make it available on the newest version of InDesign, when will the InDesign 10 Debug version be put online to download from the Adobe Partners Portal?

turns out adobe has different prerelease programs... they apparently released the debug version to the InDesign Family Prerelease program, but not on their Technology Partners Downloads site. facepalm. now my company has to apply (again...) for something we're paying 500USD a year and should already have access to. i don't even...

Unable to see myplugin in Windows-- Extension File Menu of InDesign while Debugging/ Run .

I couldn't able to see myplugin extesnion under file menu of Windows-->Extension of my MAC while i try to run or debug .
-myplugin.zxp is provided to my testing team and they are able to see it under file menu of Window-->Extension   as expected .
-But this is not happening on my mac when i try to run/debug my application .
Mac
: CS 5.5 and Extesnion Builder 1.5   . (version 7.5.3)
This was the same problem i faced on windows , seems it was due to the latest updates taken by users . ...But the problem was solved by changing version from 7.5 to 7.5.3 in manifest file while Exporting the build .
- To run/debug i will revert back version from 7.5.3 to 7.5 after providing the zxp , since my indesign version is 7.5 on Windows system .
Windows : CS 5.5 and Extesnion Builder 1.5 . (version 7.5)
Can some please suggest me or point me something on this .

Am facing another Interrelated problem with CS6 too -->Issue 2 :
   -if inDesign users take update for InDesign Version 8.0.1 [since CS6 version would be 8.0 by default ] Users Unable to See myplugin.zxp in Windows-->Extesnion .
- I Exported myplugin.zxp using InDesign CS6 Version 8.0 / Flash Builder 4.5/ Extesnion Builder 2.0 .
- This worked in all below lowest versions perfectly but not with InDesign CS6 updated Version 8.0.1

Script to collect all fonts throw an assert in CS5 Debug. Have someone an idea to find the solution?

Sorry for my english, this is not my native language.
I use a Script from http://www.typomedia.org/adobe/indesign/fontcatalog/ to get all fonts from %Systemroot%/Fonts and the font folder of InDesign and write a simple text with these fonts. To test the script I run it under CS5 and CS5 Debug. It found only 6 of over 900 fonts. In CS5 Debug any time I run the Script, I collect two times the assert:
JavaScriptDataConverter::ScriptDataToVariant - Untranslated key string: System Font
Eng: Script providers must return untranslated strings to INX and translated strings to scripting clients.
QE: Please report this assert as a 2/2 bug

In my first step I consult the developer of the script, but he has no idea why I get the assert. He also test his script under InDesign CC but he has no problems.
My InDesign CS5 and CS5 Debug versions are installed on the same system Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP 1.
I think the assert is the reason I get only 6 fonts in the normal CS5 Version.
Maybe the problem occur, because its a Server System or there are interdependency with other components because its an developer machine.
Have someone an idea or a similar issue, how I can clear my problem?

The debug version is for developing plugins, so a script programmer need not know such details.
The assert is just a warning, you will still receive the string.
As you have the debug build, you should know that, and how to file a bug report / support case, but I doubt that bug fixes for CS5 will be handled with high priority - after all it is just an assert. OTOH if you can demonstrate that this also leads to broken INX files, that might ring a bell.
Iterating fonts by means of the file system is a less than stellar idea, for that purpose we have the app.fonts collection which also considers the other applicable locations - application specific fonts, document fonts, fonts provided by font activation programs, even fonts in some spurious location of the scripts folder and missing fonts. The font object also has a property for its file system path, if you really need that (writing your own package command?).

Adobe InDesign CS5.5 plugin error

Help - I have InDesign CS5.5 (version 7.5.1.304) and when I go to open a file from a client i get an error message that reads:
Cannot open - Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign. The document I am trying to open is a InDesign® CS5.5 Document??
Tried to update the plug ins and keep getting errors - arghhhhh

No it's not and if you update CS5.5 to 7.5.4 you'll see a whole new alert.

MenuActions not enabling in InDesign CS5.5

Hi Scripters,
InDesign CS4/CS5 is able to invoke menuActions using the below mentioned javascript code.

However when I use the same code in InDesign CS5.5 version, we are encountering "Action not enabled" error.

A related issue, perhaps. I am trying to toggle Menu options via script, to set a user environment. To make sure that Window->Tools is checked, this always works:

But I also want to toggle things that lack a checkmark, such as Hide Hidden Characters.
This returns different results depending on whether a document is open, and sometimes does not toggle the selection (Show/Hide) and returns different values for the .checked call.

Sometimes this returns false, sometimes undefined. I have done many iterations, also looking for ("Show Hidden Characters").checked
The original code was written for InCopy. Any menu item that is truly checked is easily controlled. The ones that toggle Show/Hide are a mess in both InCopy and InDesign.
Am I using the wrong syntax?

Strange text display in pdf using adobe reader exported by Indesign CS5

Hi there,
I have export an interactive pdf from indesign CS5 PC version with version 7 update, and it looks fine in most of the PC and Mac Adobe reader.
But 2 of the computer had strange text display. One is the iMAC with latest version of Adobe Reader
<== you can see the text "78" and "454" are abnormal
But with the same computer using Safari with perview plugin is showing following result:
<==you can see the text are normal.
The pdf is embedded with following fonts and property:
Another Windows XP with Adobe Acrobat 9 will had same display as the iMac.
I ensure the Windows XP don't have the font installed with HelveticaNeue and the Mac is using OS Lion Bundle with that font.
Now the customer blame it is the problem of the pdf created by me and I had no idea how to explain to my customer and find out solution.
I had a trial version of CC but same result and no error during the export.
Any idea is highly appreciate. The customer hotline and the live chat is hopeless as they send me to this community to ask since I use CS5 not the latest version.

I had the fonts of Helvetica Neue bold light etc which created by Adobe and the font was created in 1993,shown in font property.
my PDF output is set to interactive not the print one. Other settings are default.
the purpose of this PDF is for user to print out and read on website. The funny thing is print out had no problem at all with HP and Ricoh printer using PCL 6 driver.
Despite Safari, the strange font happened in only Adobe product, other PDF reader had no problem such as foxit reader, xchange reader.
I tried to not embed the font but not able to do indesign, search in Google, it said it always embedded. Also that font family is preloaded in Mac OS.
I can try any test if there is a way to find out the solution.
or what should I do so the PDF should display correctly in all computer
