InDesign CS5 fails to launch after installing update

Hello all,
I've attempted to update InDesign CS5 to v7.0.4 from v7.0.2; install log below.
Upon launch, I get multiple errors with the following warnings (see screen grabs in sequence) followed by a crash.
Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? I'm running a Mac OSX v10.6.8; 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7; 8GB Ram
Thank you,
Damion

Please don't post long files here. Instead upload them to http://pastebin.com/ and post a link.
Your crash report would be more instructive (links only, please!).
But it sounds like your installation is busted.
Uninstall, run the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, and then reinstall.

  • Photoshop fails to launch after software update

Photoshop fails to launch after the most recent software update. I am running 10.5.5 on a black macbook. It fails to launch every time. I have activated it with the key code, but never registered. What do I need to do to fix this?

    Hi jmoser;
Adobe position on PS CS2 is that it is not compatible with Leopard. They say they have no plans to fix it either. According to them the only versions that are compatible with Leopard are CS3 and CS4.
I some people say they don't have any problems using PS CS2 with Leopard but it doesn't appear this is true for everyone.

  • InDesign CS3 will not open after installing updates

    Hello,
I am having a problem printing borderless with InDesign CS3. When my paper size is set on borderless my photos print very light. If Iremove the borderless setting the photos print fine.
In a effort to correct this problem I downloaded  and installed updates for InDesign CS3 now InDesign will not open.

5.0.3 should not have installed after 5.0.4 (that's a problem with the installer), and it may have added problems. First things to try, though, before we get down to uninstalling and reinstalling again, are trashing the prefs (Replace Your Preferences), trying a new user account, and starting with extensions disabled (hold down the Shift key when you boot).
If it comes to reinstalling again, you should probably also run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) before reinstalling, and make sure you have the correct update which you can download again from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4029

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 won't launch after Mac update

I updated my mac yesterday to Maverick and now Adobe Photoshop CS5 won't launch.  Can you tell me what files I need to delete to get it to launch.  I tried reinstalling it, and that didn't help.
    thanks

It's very strange.  When I try to double click on the program to open it,
it's like I'm doing nothing.  it sort of blinks like it's going to open but
does nothing.  That's the way it is if I control click and try to open too.
I did try to reboot.  Is there something I could delete in the Library
    file or something?

  • JDEV 10.1.3 fails to start after installing updates

After attempting to install the latest updates for JDeveloper 10.1.3 (the updates failed to install), JDeveloper fails to start.
The platform is Windows XP Professional SP1.
Using jdevw.exe, the "splash screen" is the only thing that starts, and it just sits there until you click on it (that closes it!).
Going to a command prompt, and typing jdev.exe, it returns a bunch of errors, most of them are either java.lang.NoSuchMethodException or java.lang.NullPointerException. Each of those errors is accompanied by about 20-25 lines of additional information.
I have searched the forums, and found some similar problems, but did not find a solution that works for me.
    Please help!

    Thanks for your help.
    Here is what I did:
    a) Renamed the previous JDEV 10.1.3 install directory (so I could use that name when I reinstalled JDEV)
    b) Reinstalled JDEV 10.1.3
    c) Installed all updates from the Official Oracle site only. This time, it was successful.
As for things to "carry over" from the old install: I had to copy my Oracle connection information for connection pooling, and I had to reconfigure the CVS connection. The previous applications in "mywork", however, were still in the directory for the previous version (10.1.2) of JDEV, as JDEV did not move it even though them even though they were migrated from 10.1.2 to 10.1.3.

  • Mail, Safari, Software Update fail to launch after last update.

After my last software update which included an update for Quicktime, iTunes and two other programs I ran Age Of Empires and left it running for a period of time.
The computer froze hard and I had to hold the power button in to restart it.
From that point I cannot get Safari, Mail, or Software Update to start. They launch, but about a second into the process they quit unexpectidly and will not re-open.
When I try to run Safari or Mail through the terminal it comes up with the following:
Last login: Sat Jul 14 13:51:39 on ttyp1
    /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari; exit
    Welcome to Darwin!
    wilbur-purdues-imac-g5:~ wilbur$ /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari; exit
    Segmentation fault
    logout
    [Process completed]
I cannot figure this out and don't know what the steps are that I should go through to fix this one.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Miriam,
I read the selection in MacFixit and went through the steps that they suggested.
I even downloaded MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.10PPC.dmg and when I went to re-install it the program Installer quit unexpectedly in the same manner that Safari, Mail, and Software Update did.
I also noted that when I tried to start either Safari or Mail using the terminal (I don't have much expertise in this area) they stated that there was a segmentation fault
Here is what was on the terminal screen:
Last login: Tue Jul 17 12:28:25 on ttyp1
    /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Installer; exit
    Welcome to Darwin!
    wilbur-purdues-imac-g5:~ wilbur$ /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Installer; exit
    Segmentation fault
    logout
    [Process completed]
It seems that I can install other programs using Installer, but I cannot do the upgrade. Maybe I have the wrong file.
Thanks for the support so far.

  • Adobe Reader XI fails to launch after Install (Solution)

Earlier this week (5/29), I upgraded to Adobe Reader XI on Windows 7, and I experienced complete failure of the application to launch. Reinstalls were attempted as well as the Adobe Reader cleaning tools, but those processes had no effect. After doing some digging, I found the following error entries in the Windows Event Viewer:
Faulting application name: Eula.exe, version: 11.0.0.379, time stamp: 0x505fc5b0
Faulting module name: nvdxgiwrap.dll, version: 8.17.12.6696, time stamp: 0x4d4a29db
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x0000282a
    Faulting process id: 0x22f0
    Faulting application start time: 0x01ce5e2f79ed2056
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\Eula.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\CoProcManager\nvdxgiwrap.dll
    Report Id: b7a70181-ca22-11e2-a1d5-b9e8c6ec20d2
This was triggered every time the application was started (either by opening a PDF file or manually starting the application). The culprit here is another executable that is apparently being ran by Adobe Reader XI  called Eula.exe. This executable is exactly what you would expect it to be. It displays a End User License Agreement, but apparently does so poorly. To fix the issue, go to the directory indicated in your Windows Event Viewer error message (in the above it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, which is located next to "Faulting application path:" and open the Eula.exe application manually.
Read the EULA, agree to it, and you will be able to open Adobe Reader.

    Hi Inayal,
That message was from May 31, 2013, several months ago. That log entry no longer exists in my eventvwr. However, I did post the specific error message above, which showed me which application the Adobe Reader was trying to launch but failed, and that is how I figured out which application was holding up Adobe Reader. From what I remember, this is the only message that displayed in the eventvwr regarding Adobe Reader.
Yes, I do have an NVIDIA driver (NVIDIA NVS 4200M). Driver version is 9.18.13.1100 (1/10/2013). However, what I believe you're seeing here is an "Access Denied" failure (code 5) which is returned by CreateProcess in the Windows API. The typical cause of an Access Denied failure is not having both read and execute permissions for the directory/executable you are trying to launch. I would check the code where you are calling CreateProcess or CreateProcessA (if this is C++, if it's something else, then that function is likely calling CreateProcess or CreateProcessA) and make sure you are getting the appropriate elevation to start the application from the Program Files directory. My best guess is that this ShellExecute is running into problems inserted by Windows Vista/7/etc. through a technology called UAC. In order to run this other executable from a system directory (Program Files), you will probably have to ask for "runas" permissions which will prompt the user to elevate your permissions to execute another system executable (this is the user that owns the EULA executable on my machine).
You can read more about User Account Control here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control
Here's an example of using the "runas" verb with ShellExecute to run another executable and prompt the user for permission to execute another System executable:
In a native Win32 application the same "runas" verb can be added to a ShellExecute() or ShellExecuteEx() call.
    ShellExecute(hwnd, "runas", "C:\\Windows\\Notepad.exe", 0, 0, SW_SHOWNORMAL);
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    James

  • Fails to start after installing updates

    Hi,
I've just run a "find updates" with the current early release of JDeveloper. I was unable to start JDeveloper. Great! It got about 90% of the way along the start-up progress bar and then just sits there.
    Number of points:
    1) Where are the logs? I don't seem to be able to find anything to see why it is stopping.
1a) I then swicthed to running jdev.exe from the jdev/bin folder.
    2) The cwd4all zip file was corrupt when the first restart of JDev happened. I removed that zip file.
    3) There does not seem to be any checking of Java versions for extensions, or else someone is not using it correctly! When running jdev.exe from %JDEV_HOME%\jdev\bin, I got an error java/lang/StringBuilder not being declared. This belongs to Java 1.5. I am currently using 1.4 & 1.3. I removed the offending memorymonitor.jar file from the extensions folder.
I have the option below set under jdev.conf.
    SetJavaHome C:\j2sdk1.4.2_09
    <snip>
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/StringBuilder
    at com.monitor.MemoryMonitor.getToolTip(MemoryMonitor.java:132)
    <snip>
    4) Ran through the rest of extensions, deleting one by one and then trying to start JDev. Eventually got it to start by deleting chughes.jdev.CopyAsHTML.jar.
Shame, that was the actually feature I was looking for...
Might I suggest a little more testing before adding extensions to be available through the help/update menu. At least so they don't break JDev.
    Hope this helps someone.
    All the best,
    Tim

If you ever experience problems with check for updates hanging on startup (although, of course this should never happen, is a bug, and should be reported here on the forum just as you did), you can resolve the problem by deleting the file OH/jdev/lib/deferred-updates.xml. This file contains all the installation instructions for the updater that runs before JDeveloper starts. If it doesn't exist, the updater does not get executed.
Check for updates will generally log stuff, including errors, on the console. You have to start jdev using jdev.exe (not jdevw.exe) to see the console.
cwd4all.zip may get corrupted due to a bug that is very specific to the web site that extension is distributed on (surprising and scary, but true). The bug also manifests itself as crushingly slow download rates for that particular extension. Unfortunately, since this extension was created after EA was released, we didn't find the bug until recently. I have already fixed it -- the fix will be in the production version of 10.1.3.
JDeveloper 10.1.3 should always be run under a Java 1.5 VM. I believe that it will pop up an alert on startup if you try to run it with 1.4 saying that you're running it on an unsupported version of Java. The reference to 1.4.2 in jdev.conf is an (unfortunate) bug. This has been / will also be fixed in the production release.
    Thanks,
    Brian

I'm having this issue as well only with a little different twist I guess. I'm transferring the iWorks applications from my Macbook Pro 3,1 with Lion to a new MBP 10,1 running Mountain Lion. I transferred the apps over using DropCopy since the older MBP doesn't have AirPlay. Applications show up but crash upon opening. This is the first install so there are no previous plist, versions or such to delete. All three crashed upon opening every time until I just had to have Keynote and purchased again - although Apple agreed to refund that purchase since my previous version quit working. Any ideas since I don't have any previous plist/versions to delete? Thanks in adavnce for any help you can offer.

  • InDesign CS5 won't launch - missing plug-ins

InDesign CS5 won’t launch on Windows 7. I get the following error messages:
    Cannot load the LINKS.RPLN plug-in
Cannot load the FONT USAGE DIALOG.RPLN plug-in
Cannot load the XMEDIA UI.RPLN plug-in
After these error messages InDesign crashes.
Do I need to reinstall the plug-ins?
If yes, how do I do that?

I couldn't find a repair option so tried to reinstall InDesign as you've suggested. This doesen't seem to work either, as I received the following installation error:

  • Adobe apps fail to launch after copying via ARD 3

For several years we have beeen updating our Adobe apps by updating our master image and copying (via ARD v.1, then v.2, now v. 3) the applications and the associated Application Support files to the target machines. (300 Macs running Tiger) Since upgrading to version 3 of ARD. Adobe apps fail to launch after they are replaced, even with the old files.
I found a post alluding to a known issue with Acrobat from June. It stated it was a known bug that engineering was aware of. THAT was the only mention I could find. Does anyone know anything more about this? This is critical for our publishing workflow - Adobe has two updates that affect us in critical areas that we need to implement, but are reluctant to visit 300 individual desktops (even remotely) and run individual install patches.
The silent install works great for installation, but does not address updates.
    Anyone?
    Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Just FYI. I only had problems with InDesign not launching but this was a know issue with Adobe:

Any insight is greatly appreciated. I read the threads I could find and all I could see to try was changing permissions on the appdata/local/adobe dir, but that didn't do anything. Also trashed preferences.
    Thanks

YOu said that it has worked before so any chages you made , like installing som enew software or updating the app.
Also check after trashing the prefs manually :
These are normally hidden files, so you will need to set your system to show them. They will be found in various places depending on the OS, and the version of InDesign.

  • Acrobat 8.1 fails to open after automatic update

I installed CS3 a month ago and everything worked well until last week after an automatic update to Acrobat was installed. Since then, whenever I try to open Acrobat, I get the windows error "Adobe Acrobat 8.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close..." I tried to download and install the latest update but that didn't fix the problem.
Also, I tried to report it to Adobe online but never got a response and now I can't find where I reported it to see what the status is.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Still failing to launch after repairing permissions and restart.
    Part of the report says:
    AcroSecurityBailOutImpl
It has always opened the file when I try a second or third time, though.
It's just the first once or twice that it fails.

  • InDesign CS5 Won't Launch. Anywhere!

I recently updated my MacBook Pro to OS X Yosemite and now my InDesign CS5 won't launch.
I did some online troubleshooting and it suggested uninstalling and starting again. This would be problematic as I don't have a CD drive so can't install the software and research shows that CS5 is no longer available to download.
My InDesign comes as part of the Acrobat Professional Package V9 - not sure of this makes a difference!
Also, I tried downloading InDesign from CC, but it won't launch as it says I don't have the permission. Please help - I have a paper due for tomorrow!

You can download the CS5 installer from the links at the bottom of this page: Download and Installation Help
