Reviewing the posts I cleaned preferences, repair HD permissions and verify disk but this failure is so pesistent: making some activity during 15 minutes outside the Suite and then applications are not responding...

MacBook Pro shuts down after periods of inactivity

I had a 6-year old MacBook Pro. Besides just being a bit old and tired it would attempt to shut down after periods of inactivity. I tried setting it to never sleep. I tried the whole reset thing where you take the battery out and hold the power button for 5 seconds. I bought new memory for it. Eventually I used it as an excuse to buy a new machine.
Of course I copied my image over to the new MacBook. Now I know its not a hardware issue because it still happens!
I also have other quirky issues (probably not related, but who knows).
I just cannot get my remote (or any apple remote to work).
I have an empty folder that I can't delete–it crashes the system.
Aperature hangs up all the time
VMware hangs up all the time
Firefox and Chrome both hang up
Sometimes I have to force quit Mail
Is this a good time to do a clean install?

Resetting the SMC doesn't seem to have done anything. The progress bar hasn't reached the end to shut down yet, but so far, it's displaying the same behavior.

I keep losing my wireless connection after periods of inactivity - any solution? I recently installed a new wireless router with improved range.

I recently installed a Netgear Wireless router for improved reception, but now my macbook loses connection through Airport after periods of inactivity. We have another older Macbook in the house, and it never loses connection. I never had this problem with the previous Linksys router, just limited range. Any ideas what is causing this? It's frustrating to have to frequently shout down and re-boot. That so far is the only way I can re-connect.

Adjust the Wireless Settings on your linksys router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab on the Setup page- Here Wireless Network mode should be mixed- Provide any non linksys network name ....
Name (SSID) box- Set wireless channel to 11- And wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on "Save Settings" >>
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select AES...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your
network key whenever you connect to your wireless network.
Do NOT give this key to anyone.
Click on Advanced Wireless settings>>
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings" ...
Try to look for the Wireless Network on your laptop and attempt to connect...

How to get InDesign CS5 on computer after Aldus Pagemaker and Adobe Pagemaker disks destroyed byfire

More than 2 hours with "help" jackasses who can't speak English - and hang up or cut you off.
Have InDesign CS5. Had Aldus Pagemaker and then Adobe Pagemaker 5 and then 6. They were destroyed in a fire. Can't register the CS5 without the numbers. One of the Adobe "Help" types said they would email it to me - and that has NOT happened. Anothr told me I can't use it and have to get CS6.
Another told me it was easy - and then cut off the phone.
The three others I have talked with have been worse.
How do I put this damn program on the computer???

If your copy of Pagemaker is registered you can look up the serial number yourself on Adobe.com. You can find directions on how to do this at http://forums.adobe.com/message/3987968#3987968.

Disconnect Bluetooth Device After Period of Inactivity

I have connected a bluetooth device successfully, and it remains paired through power cycles. I'm attempting to now get the device to disconnect after a certain period of inactivity. The device is a ps3 controller, if that matters.
Any advice?

I guess I could also solve the problem by attaching the WIRELESS printer with a cable to the router, but HP is selling thise products as wireless, so why should I have to do that?

InDesign CS5 closes right after it opens

After many, many months of being a reliable companion, one of our InDesign CS5 installations has suddenly started closing itself immediately after opening. We've deleted preferences, uninstalled and reinstalled the software, deleted all but the system fonts, created a new user -- all to no avail.
At this point, we know the following:
It's not a font issue (all but system fonts have been deleted).
It's not a preferences issue (software was uninstalled and all remaining folders were deleted).
It's not a plug-ins issue (software makes it to the workspace before closing).
We have a similar problem with Illustrator CS5, but the rest of the suite works perfectly.
The weirdness is happening on a Dell XPS 420 quad core, running Windows 7 64-bit. Everything else on the box is stable and reliable, and has been so for some time. The video card is an older nVidia, with the latest version of driver software.
Since this PC is our heavy production box, we're crippled without our InDesign. We've run through just about everything in the knowledgebase and forums, so any fresh insights into what's going on are extremely welcome.

I've been dealing with this same problem for more than a week probably almost 2.
I browse the web and no answer I tried the unexpectedly quit after launch, and did all the suggestions deleting preferences, deleting some SING folder, some *.plist, reinstalling etc. and it would open once and again the same issue.
Yesterday I think I made some progress, downloaded an utility program called OnyX http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html, (This was not in any of the serches but I decided to give it a try as I was going nuts with the thing.)
I ran did all and each of the tabs, Verify, Maintenance, Cleaning, etc. and now apparently Indesign finally works,I'm not sure of what was deleted that was causing the problem but is the 4th time I open it and it doesn't unexpectedly quits.
The best answer before that was to delete preferences every time you launched the program (annoying) press & hold shift+control+option+command open indesign delete preferences YES now you can let go the other keys. If it doesn't works try relaunch 2 or 3 more times with the keys pressed, if a message appears about deleting something hit yes.
Not a tech girl so, hope this helps someone.

Applications closing after period of inactivity

My applications are closing after a period of inactivity. I would appreciate any help. I'm on a 27inch iMac late 2013 running 10.10.1.
If application is idol for some time it can close on me. Skype closes often. Adobe products and mamp will close periodically as well. This really interrupts my work flow. Any help would be much appreciated.

Set auto shut down for iPod touch after period of inactivity

I keep falling asleep with my iPod on. My old MP3 player had a setting where it automatically shutdown after a specified period of inactivity. Is there a download or setting of some sort that will make the ipod touch do the same?

I can't try it out for you now and don't know if it's on 2.x, but read p. 32 of the IPT manual under Sleep Timer. The option is under the Clock -> Timer on the Home menu. If the feature is still there...

Are your layers or objects locked? Did you do all the initial editing on your master pages?

InDesign CS5.5 Crashing After Opening a File

Hello,
After working on a file for a good amount of time in InDesign, the program crashed. I tried to reopen the file and after making a change or two it will crash again. It has progressed to do this continously, and at points freezing my whole system. I'm currently working on a file that is around 7MB, and is around 150 pages long. I do use several Master Pages, and have a Table of Contents within this document. The issue developed after I updated my Table of Contents.
I am running a Windows 7 (Home Premium) machine with 64-bit Operating System, on a HP G62.
I also attempted to run the file off of my WD My Passport (1GB) thinking it could have been my hard drive, but it still crashed.
The CS5.5 version I have is the Student and Teacher version, and I have had it since December 2011. I also check all of my other Adobe programs and they seem to be working fine. I attempted to check if InDesign was updated since it is on automatic updating and I had no luck since it crashed again.
I really need to get this issue solved quickly, since I use this program on a daily basis for work and an internship.

I just wanted to let you know I think I fixed the problem. For some reason the file apparently became corrupt. Thanks to Dropbox and it's restorations I figured out that the last time I saved or the last work period that Dropbox has on account something happened. So I restored the file to the one before and it seems to be working fine. I have no clue what happened, but I'll just have to redo the work I lost. It also seems that some of my other InDesign files are working fine, which I should have checked before.

Laserjet 300 color MFP nw STOPS SEEING NETWORK after period of inactivity

I work in an office of a television show. We are all on Macs. Printer worked fine for a while, now has an annoying problem.
IF we turn it on, it prints fine for a while and the printer IP is seen by my browser. BUT, if you wait an indefinite amount of time (not sure how many minutes/hours), THEN try to print or access the printer IP... the connection fails.
I've updated the fimware. I've disabled IPv6. I've created a static IP address for the printer, re-added the printer using the IP address-- all to no avail. Each time, after an unspecificed amout of time... the printer seems to DROP from the wireless network, which requires users to turn it off, then on so that it can be seen by the network.
PLEASE SOMEBODY tell me that it's a simple setting and not the network card failing... !

Qosmio X500: Lan/Internet connection get lost after period of time

Hi all,.
I got the qosmio x500 for about half a year now...
I got this problem where after about 5 hours or less the lan/internet connection get lost.
I disabled the wireless connection and is using only the wired connnection now.
When it get disconnected... all devices seems to work seemlessly, no problem can be found. I checked the win7 network adaptor --and it seems to be connected properly.
I haven't got a slightest idea how to fix that.... Only a reset of the system and reloading the os results with a valid connection.
It is even stranger,. When using it for a piriod of time (listeding to audio streams from the web)... when getting back to the machine the audio connection seems to work properly.... but when trying to access other sites, or other machines in the homegroup, or network (under explorer). It result faulty.
Please guide me somehow how to fix the issue, it is bugging me a lot (all these resets to the machine probably doesn't do it any good as well).

It could be the energy saving feature of your network card.
Right click Network Icon on the status bar, choose 'Open Network Center and Sharing', Click on 'Connection', Click on 'Properties' (low left button), you'll see the tab with your Network Properties. Click 'Configure' (Upper right button), choose 'Power Management' (last right tab).
Uncheck 'Allow computer to shut down this device to save energy'. Probably your problem will now be solved.
If the names I write aren't exactly right, I'm on a French language computer so my translations can be slightly wrong.

Sun Rays with VDI 3.1 - Black screen after periods of inactivity

Running VDI 3.1 with bundled versions of SRSS on three servers in a cluster running Solaris 10 with VSphere as a desktop provider - also using meta-kiosk with all smartcards configured to run "VDA" script when inserted, DTUs require registered cards.
Bit of a strange issue that is unfortunately not always reproducible:
After what seems a random period after having removed a smartcard from a DTU (if still logged into a Windows session, or after disconnecting it) sometimes as short as 20mins, sometimes only after overnight, upon reinserting the card, the VDI login screen does not always appear immediately (as should happen), but instead a black screen with a moveable mouse pointer is shown. This persists for almost exactly 2 minutes whenever it happens, then the VDI screen appears. If you manually kill the session from the admin web-interface and power-cycle the Sun Ray, it will pop up immediately as expected.
At times, the VDI screen does simply appear immediately as expected, at others this 2-minute black screen first...
You can often force the behaviour on a working VDI login screen by choosing "More options - Quit" - this will often trigger the black screen/2 minute delay. At other times quitting in this manner does not reproduce the error and the VDI login screen appears immediately.
I've researched this for a couple of weeks, and a lot of bugs mentioning "black screens" pointed towards problems with uttsc-bin - I've already applied the patch here: http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-21-143215-03-1 to no avail.
I assume that it possibly is nothing to do with the Windows connector, since it's really the VDI login screen that is not appearing in a timely manner and Windows logins/sessions always start/resume immediately after logging in from the VDI screen.
Can anyone offer any help?

Never figured out what was causing this, but an upgrade to VDI 3.2 has fixed it (for now at least!)

Tour will not turn back on after period of inactivity

Hello,
My Tour will not turn on after about 2 weeks of inactivity. The battery was stored in it at appx 40% (I realize this was probably a mistake...).
When plugged into the charger, the red light goes on for appx 10 secs, then turns off (whether battery is in or out).
Several battery pulls have not made a difference.
Phone has been plugged in for over an hour now, with no result.
Tried putting the battery in with the phone plugged/unplugged.
Plugging phone into PC USB tries to install the drivers (so it's def not fried)

Yes I was going to suggest the same thing. Either place a friend's in your device or take it into your carrier's store to see if another battery does the trick
