Indesign CS5: Grow Animation

I've only recently started using Indesign and have found to be remarkably intuitive however I have come across a problem. I've put a number of pictures on a page and sized them down so that they fit. In order so that they can be viewed properly, I applied a grow animation that is activated/deactived by rolling on/off the image, however I have found they have greatly reduced quality when they grow. Does anyone know of way that I can keep the pictures small but maintain their quality when they grow? I'm at my wit's end!

No, the file itself is a .psd that I'm simply placing into indesign. How would I go about turning it into a SWF file and exporting it? Sorry if I appear ignorant.

  • InDesign CS5 interactive PDF export not functioning

Hey guys, I have been starting to work with some interactive designs within InDesign CS5, mainly animations (menu fly out on mouse over, moving object on page load) . However each time I have exported my work as an interactive PDF, nothing functions, it all appears as static images. I have tried viewing in Acrobat XI, Adobe Reader, Safari.. all with the same result.
I have used the preview function to review that animation is working properly before exporting and every works flawless, it just doesn't export any of this. I have tried editing a new PDF preset and exporting that way. I have tried both "Interactive" and "Interactive for PDF" modes as well, in case that matters. I have had absolutely no luck and hope someone can find something I must have missed? Thanks for the help on this!

Animations are not supported natively in PDF files... Preview shows you just a Flash/SWF preview, not PDF preview.
Only way to use animations in PDF files is to create Flash/SWF file which includes animation(s), place that SWF to InDesign and export Interactive PDF after that.
And it´s just a work-around, not very good one IMO.... I don´t believe you can do animated menus with that technique....

  • Indesign CS5.5 Web Content Animation Cutoff

    Hi,
I'm currently working in Indesign CS5.5 and I'm trying to add Web Content to a folio that I'm making. It's for an animation on the cover.
I get all the way to testing it on the Content Viewer on my iPad and when I open it up, it gives a little loading circle for half the animation.
Does anybody know how to get rid or cut back the loading time so my full animation is visible? There's no loading circles on Wired's magazine whenever they have these types of animations.
    Thanks,
    Rob

    I've got it working.
Perhaps the problem was the numbered list used in the Chapter Title paragraph style? I had said to convert numbered lists to text in the ePub Export dialog.
Some combination of these steps solved the problem in case others encounter the same thing:
    a) Changed the chapter headings using the Chapter Title paragraph style to Chapter Title FM. This style does not used a numbered list. Of course, I had to manually type "Chapter 1" - before each chapter title.
    b) Once all occurences of the Chapter Title paragraph style were gone, I redefined the TOC definition to remove Chapter Title. This leaves me with a single Level 1 and a single Level 2.
    c) Updated the TOC with the new definition.
    d) Moved the TOC frame from the pasteboard to some blank space in the front matter. I did not bother to make the frame large enough for all the text, since InDesign will delete this upon export.
    e) Export to PDF. On the third panel, changed the "break at: Chapter Title" to "break at: Chapter Title FM"
My theory is getting rid of the numbered list in the chapter paragraph styles probably solved the problem. Thanks to all who took the time to check out the discussion.

  • Can't place and Indesign CS5 created swf back in an Indesign CS5 file?

I hope someone can help me?  I have created an animated swf file in Indesign CS5 using the amination and timing panels, for use in an interactive PDF.  The swf has exported correctly and plays as expected in the browser.  However, when I go to select the swf to place it in my Indesign file its greyed out and unable to be selected.
I have basically tried to follow Rufus Deuchler's method to incorporate animations into a PDF http://tv.adobe.com/watch/csinsider-design/indesign-creating-interactive-pdfs-with-page-tu rn-and-flash-animations/. In the video his swf is available for selection when using the place command and everything else I have found on the web talks about importing swf's into indesign files being a standard feature in CS5 and CS5.5.
I have tried re exporting the swf by different names and to different folders; quitting Indesign and restarting it; trying to place the swf into a completely different indesign file; going through all the Indesign Preferences to see if there is an option to "turn on" swf import and I have even tried following Rufus's steps and export options exactly when creating the swf.  Nothing has worked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I have screen shots and the swf I am trying to import which I can email if that would help anyone ease my growing frustration.
    Cheers
    Pete

    Hi John,
Thanks for the extra information.  I did as you suggested and downloaded Onyx and rebuilt the launch services database. But only after finding out that my harddrive was corrupted to some extent after both Onyx and Disk Utility found a problem when I verified my Hard Drive.  Anyway I sorted that out, executed the rebuild launch services database via Onyx and unfortunately still no luck with with being able to place a swf in my indesign file.  Very frustrating.
The only other thing I thought I would mention is that upon verifying the disk with Onyx it initially presented me with a "Choose Application" dialog box with the question "Where is ARM?" at the top.  I didn't know what this meant and I couldn't find any information on the web so I chose "cancel" and then Onyx went through the verification process without a problem and lauched the Onyx application proper.  I'm clutching at straws now but I was wondering if not selecting an application could have undermined the rebuilding of the LS datatbase?
Again, and help you or anyone else can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • What is it about InDesign CS5 that someone would get this error message?

    Hi,
What is is about the .swf file that is generated from the InDesign CS5 interactive workspace that someone would get the following error message when they go to view the site I created?
"This file may contain newer information that this viewer can support. It may not open or display correctly. Adobe suggests that you upgrade to the latest versions of our Acrobat products blah blah blah."
The site doesn't seem to work for four Mac users, but works fine for at least one PC user.
I'm trying to figure out how to save the .swf file down to Flash Player 9, which I've done by exporting a .fla file, then adjusting the Publish setting in Flash CS5. But that throws a wrench into the works...all the animations go haywire by continuously looping and the scale of all the text elements on the first page is much larger than it should be.
    Thanks, Steve

this usually happens when a user moves or deletes files in the finder - a sure way to upset iTunes.
did you move or delete files in the finder ?
    I cannot locate the song.
if you let iTunes manage your library, all your content will be in <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music/iTunes/iTunes music (or media)/music. did you look there ? tried a spotlight search ?
if the files are really gone, and have been purchased from the iTunes store, see Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

  • HUGE file size in InDesign CS5

Help! Deadline fast approaching and InDesign now down to a crawl. It's definitely InDesign... it's open while I'm typing this and I can see the letters here appear as I type. In InDesign, it's like being back in the dark ages... type way ahead and wait for the display to catch up, and it doesn't even get all the way. I've resorted to typing in Notepad and copy/pasting in to try to speed things up a bit.
I'm a relatively new InDesign user, so apologies if there is a simple answer...
My file was getting large in terms of number of pages and because of the anchored frames issue (another post), I split it into several files and put it in a book. At least that way the knock on effect of having something NOT anchored was manageable.
Yesterday and now today, the program got progressively slower. Using 70%+ of memory (4GB of it!)
Something feels very wrong to me...
The first file in the book is 4 pages long. It consists of a title page, an automatically generated ToC, a whole-page frame with a border and a whole-page frame without a border. Apart from the title page, it's ALL text. On the title page and the master page I have (linked, I believe - they show up in the links pane) two images. The one on the front cover is only 115KB anyway, and the one on the master page, in the footer, is 82KB.
This file is  13,776KB in size. What's going on? The whole BOOK before was slightly less than 12MB, and although I've added a bit more content, nothing new has gone into these four pages. The total for the whole book now (NOT INCLUDING IMAGES) is just over 35MB.
I had installed a trial of CS 5.5 to see if that was going to be any good for an ePub project I'm about to start, but until recently I hadn't noticed any problems with it. I've just uninstalled it and am about to do a repair of InDesign CS5 to see if that helps.
    For the technically minded:
PC running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit,
    Intel i5 CPU (3.84GHz)
Two graphics cards running three monitors (been like this since got the PC last December).
I'm going to struggle to meet the deadline at this rate, and am starting to panic :-(
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions

You're a star. I'd already done the switching off the page thumbnails and reducing page performance. I hadn't thought about cross-references! That's certainly a possibility.
I've just done the "Save As" twice - and that first file is down to 1,100 KB - which is a huge reduction from it's previous size! It's still growing already though - just updating the numbers in the book has taken it from 800 KB up to the new 1,100 without me doing anything else (not even opening it myself). Track Changes is (I believe) switched off ... in Edit > Preferences, unless there's somewhere else...
Shoudl have thought of the Save As as well - used to have to do that with Word docs a few versions ago (not so much now).
    Thanks again.

  • Question about Creating Buttons in InDesign CS5

Now that InDesign CS5 has what I hope to find is a fairly robust interactive workspace, I've begun building a portfolio web site using the program.
But I'm having trouble understanding how to create a text "next" button that has
1.) a rollover state where "next" becomes bold and black
2.) has an action associated with it that takes the viewer to the next state.
In other words, once clicked, the "next" button should take the viewer from seeing the image of a brochure cover to an image of an inside spread.
Any tips on how the Appearance section works in the Button palette, or where to go to find out?
Should I be creating separate text "next" buttons for the Normal, Rollover and On Click states? And should these be sitting on different Layers?
Maybe it's a combination of working with Animation, Buttons and Object States?
    It's sort of complex...
I reviewed the "InDesign CS5 New Features" tutorial on lynda.com, which was great and gives some examples, but doesn't address my exact problem.
Anyone working with this kind of scenario?
    Thanks, Steve

Never mind. I figured it out. I can't believe how poorly designed this entire Adobe site function.
Amazing...the screen says "Welcome sssttteeevvveee" in the top left corner, which, of course makes you think you're logged in, right?
But no. You need to click on the login/register link under the black Forums box...like, why?
Note to Adobe. TIme for a little rethink here.

  • Indesign CS5 to Interactive PDF buggy?

I spent the last couple days, on and off, working with Indesign CS5 on OSX to create an interactive PDF.
Using Lynda.com as a resource, I set up some nice animations that were exporting well. I refined them and was prepared to finish up today. This morning, however, things stopped working.  My animations Preview well in Indesign, but after creating the SWF, and placing it -- or even using a SWF I created yesterday--the export is not working. The Export to Interactive PDF is not the most difficult part of the process and I couldn't have forgotten *everything* over night!   It was working fine yesterday.
Anyway, I tried rebooting. Creating a new, fresh Indesign document. Doing a fresh animation, using much simpler components.  Using different versions of Reader (I have 9, 10 and 8 loaded). Nothing works.  I'm not sure what the problem is but part of my animation gets clipped, and/or the Acrobat view is *always* wrong no matter what setting I choose.  The whole things is a mess and I'm abandoning the project which I had hoped to include as part of my proposal today.  Oh well, it's not a key element, but it would have been nice.
Anyone having similar problems or know why this might be happening???

I can tell you what they'll tell you in the Acrobat forum: PDF is considered a FINAL format. It's not intended (or constructed) to be work the way you would like.
allow the end user to be able to modify the text in each section so they can personalize it as necessary. Additionally, I want them to be able to add thier own logo to the newsletter.
The only thing that approaches what you want is creating form fields in InDesign that can be filled out when a user received the PDF document.
If each recipient had a full copy of PAID Acrobat application, they could make minor changes in text and pictures. To have the greatest capabilities, they would need to own the latest version, Acrobat XI, which has stronger editing features than earlier versions of Acrobat.

  • InDesign CS5 crashing on launch due to font auto-activator issue

I was having a problem where all the jobs I had been collecting would no longer open in InDesign CS5 without crashing on startup. Just found out today it has to do with the new feature in CS5 that reads fonts from your "Document Fonts" folder. Once I renamed the folder the files started opening up just fine again. Is there a way to disable that feature in InDesign, or has anyone else found another workaround that doesn't involve renaming the folder on every job I collect?
I'm sure it's a known issue by now, but I didn't see anything come up when I did a search.

Same problem here. Whenever I want to open a packaged InDesign document which includes a Document Fonts folder containing some fonts which are identical to my system fonts (10.7.3 in my case) InDesign hangs. The best way to avoid these problems is to clean all system font folders and start managing fonts yourself. Check what fonts are needed for a certain document, avoid using fonts installed by the system. Although it is very generous from Apple, Adobe and Microsoft to give us a lot of fonts for free it is wise to manage them yourself. Check the following font locations:
    ~Library/Fonts
    ~System/Library/Fonts
~User/Library/Fonts (first make the Library visible: from within Terminal type the following command and press Return: chflags nohidden ~/Library)
Remove all fonts installed by Adobe (109 fonts) and Microsoft (154 fonts) to a differrent location. I manage them with FontExplorer 3.0 but you are ofcourse free to use any other font manager you prefer. Clear out any system font which is not needed by the system. Make sure the removed fonts can be enabled when needed. In FontExplorer you can create a set like 'Adobe CS5 Fonts' and put all Adobe fonts in there. This also counts for Apple system fonts which you remove. Create a new set in FontExplorer and call it OS Lion Fonts for example and move all fonts in there. I'd like to point out that I choose to manage fonts myself and I keep FontExplorer's capabilities to organaise fonts turned off (Preferences > Advanced > Organise font files). This way the Finder structure I use to manage my fonts (which is by foundry/designer) is maintained.
Clearing all unneeded fonts keeps the font list short and uncluttered which makes it easy to select fonts in InDesign or any other app. When you are designing things you want to make a selection of fonts you want to use in advance so keeping a lot of fonts available to the system is pointless in my opinion anyway.
Also, this process gets rid of a lot of fonts which you don't use/need  like Chinese or whatever other language fonts. It shortens the font list dramatically. Setup font auto activation/deactivation so that fonts are disabled automatically after reboot or when you close a document to prevent the font list from growing out of proportions.
Below is the list of fonts which I keep installed/enabled by default in my ~System/Library/Fonts folder:
    Apple Color Emoji.ttf
    Apple Symbols.ttf
    AppleGothic.ttf
    Courier.dfont
    Geneva.dfont
    HelveLTMM
    Helvetica LT MM
    Helvetica.dfont
    HelveticaNeue.dfont
    HelveticaNeueDeskUI.ttc
    Keyboard.ttf
    LastResort.ttf
    LucidaGrande.ttc
    MarkerFelt.ttc
    Menlo.ttc
    Monaco.dfont
    Symbol.ttf
    Times LT MM
    Times.dfont
    TimesLTMM
    ZapfDingbats.ttf
I haven't checked Times yet but I think it can be disabled. If you think Times is causing problems and you rather want to activate it yourself when it is needed or you want to use it you can remove it from the ~System/Library/Fonts folder. Drag the font to the desktop to make a copy first. Next trash the font file. Enter your admin password end you're done. If a font is needed by the system it gets restored automatically and you get a notification like "The system font 'HelveticaNeue.dfont' had been restored. This font was removed. Mac OS X needs this font to display text onscreen."
If you don't use FontExplorer you can use Onyx to clean font caches when you are done clearing out unwanted fonts. Always reboot afterwards.
    Hope this helps.

  • Linking URLs to InDesign CS5 exported .swf files

I primarily work in print design, but I've exported a few animated .swf files of web banner ads from InDesign CS5, and the folks on the receiving end can't use them because they're unable to link them to a URL (in whatever manner they're able to with other Flash files). I was hopeful that I could open the files in Flash and edit them there, but it seems not to be an editable file. It's been pretty frustrating watching work go down the drain and people have to settle for less glamorous static ads. Does anybody know a solution?

I think I may have responded to this in the community help section, but I'll repeat what I said there. InDesign has some impressive Flash capabilities but using it to create an entire website....no, not a good idea at all.
The size of the SWF files is a major issue and they are quite simply not suitable for this purpose. Additionally, an entire website in Flash is an SEO nightmare so it won't matter how long it takes to load since nobody is likely to find it.
Flash should be used judiciously on the web. In fact, I never use it. All that said, the only advice I can offer if you decide to ignore the rest of it, is to export to FLA, open it in Flash Professional and finish it up there.

  • Video and .swf embedded in InDesign CS5

    Hello,
I am planning on an interactive publication to be exported either as PDF or as .swf (which I plan to import into Flash Projector and group it into an .app and .exe for single-file download).
In the InDesign CS5 file I need to include .swf files (exported from Flash Catalyst) and video (flv or f4v format, encoded with Adobe Media Encoder), as well as various animations made with the Interactive panel tools.
In a previous attempt (exported as PDF), I could not play video and sometimes the .swf were not exported correctly but as an icon which would not play.
    So, my questions are:
    - Does exporting as .swf embed video and .swf to the final file?
I don't mind about the .swf size, but I want the final file to play correctly.
    - Does the final .app or .exe, made by Flash Projector, contain the video files?
I would expect a single file with everything included, hence the use of Projector. If you have another idea, please share
    - Does exporting as Interactive PDF embed video and .swf to the final file?
Again, file size is not of importance, playability is.
    - Which file should I use if I plan to include animations, video and other .swf files?
I can work around the iPDF inability to display animations, I'm mostly concerned about displaying videos and .swf animations
    Thanks,
    Konstantinos

I'll answer as an InDesign user who doesn't work with Flash Professional or Flash Projector.
There are two Flash workflows which are possible—but they don't work the same, and you can't change one into the other. You can export as a SWF file to go directly to a browser. This option does NOT embed videos. It stores them in a separate folder called "[filename]_Resources". I don't know if this works with Flash Projector but I doubt it.
The second workflow is to export as a FLA file into Flash Professional from which I expect you could create such a file. I believe you can include your video files when exporting to Flash Professional. There I assume you could embed them or not.
As for exporting an Interactive PDF file in CS5, if you choose File > Export > Adobe PDF (Interactive), it exports as a PDF 1.7 (Extension Level 3) file which supports embedding videos, and it will do so without having to choose a setting. If you choose FLV or F4V files you can set their options for play in the Media panel. Keep in mind, however, that they will only play in Acrobat 9 Pro, Acrobat X Pro, or Adobe Reader 9 and X, not earlier versions.
You can include SWF files in a PDF file and these can include animations. Make sure you upgrade InDesign to the latest version, because they've had to patch some bugs in how the SWF files preview.

  • Problem creating a 'used sources' list based on EXIF data in InDesign CS5

    Hello everyone,
I recently started to use InDesign CS5 to work on school projects. These projects regularly require us to have a list of sources, not only for citations and referenced work, but also for images. As I sometimes make quite long documents, keeping track of what image is where, and where I got it from, gets tedious.
I had the idea of generating a caption based on EXIF data, which I'd move to the pasteboard, and group it with the image. The text in the caption has a seperate, numbered paragraph style. On one of the last pages, I generate a table of contents, which the numbered paragraph style selected. I chose to display it using another paragraph style, without page numbers.
What I want to have as the end result is:
    Table of contents
    1. <Title>. <Author> (<Creation Date>). Retrieved <Date Placed> through <Description>
The captions display correctly, as shown above in the body of the table of contents. The table of contents itself however, shows only the numbering in front of it, and not the variables.
I already tried converting the live captions to static captions, but that doesn't work. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this?

  • Unable to debug indesign cs5 plugin in windows

Hi, again. Originaly posted here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/766469?tstart=0
We are having some problems with an indesign sc5 plugin, it works perfectly in macosx but in windows it causes indesign to crash. Anyway after some trouble shooting we tried running it in debug indesign. Problem is that the debug version of indesign wont even start, it fezzes in the splash screen on "Registering xxx plug-ins". It hangs before we can write anything in log files and thatching a debugger gives nothing. Closer inspections
revealed that all the indesign treads is in "waiting" state. Waiting for what? Don't know. Killing one of the threads allows indesign to start but it will not have loaded the plugin and we are back on square one unable to debug.
Anyway I installed the osx version of debug indesign and starting it gives an assert like:
No translation of key 'com.adobe.rc.operationalmessages' to British string.
    BreakStrToDebugger
    ASSERT_FUNC
Examining the stack of the indesign main thread in windows gives pretty much the same thing:
    0, ntkrnlpa.exe!KiDeliverApc+0xb3
    1, ntkrnlpa.exe!ZwYieldExecution+0x19ae
    2, ntkrnlpa.exe!NtWaitForSingleObject+0x9a
    3, ntkrnlpa.exe!KeReleaseInStackQueuedSpinLockFromDpcLevel+0xb14
    4, ntdll.dll!KiFastSystemCallRet
    5, kernel32.dll!WaitForSingleObject+0x12
    6, PMRuntime.dll!ClientShowAssert+0x8d
    7, PMRuntime.dll!BreakStrToDebugger+0x15
    8, PMRuntime.dll!ASSERT_FUNC+0x117
    9, NETAPI32.dll+0xbe86972
(as reported by the ProcessHacker process viewer)
So the win version is trying to show an assert window but fails, locking indesign in the splash screen? Stoping indesign before any plugin execution?
As we cant get any debug information out we don really know what the problem is, making it rather hard to debug. We have triple checked the build and linking options. Studied the plugin exports. Inserted an ridiculous amount of trace statements in the code, doesn't work in the debug version but anyway.
Have anyone had a problem like this or know what might cause it?
What happens in the indesign startup process, what does the “Registering plug-ins” actually do? It's not executing any plugin functions and the the initialization of the plugins doesn't happen until later.

You are correct in that none pf the plug-in code is executed during the "Registering ### plug-ins" phase. What is done here is simply loading the plugins by reading from their resource definitions. For example, if you try to load a CS4 plug-in in InDesign CS5 or if you try to load a release plug-in in debug version you will get errors and popups here and your plugin will not load and be available (these are just example errors and may not be relevant to your case). As far as I know InDesign should not crash just because there is a problem with your plugin, but there could be bugs.
    I would recommend:
    1. Remove your plugins and verify that InDesign debug starts properly without any 3rd party extensions.
    2. Compile one of the SDK sample plugins (debug target) and make sure that InDesign still starts properly.
    3. Create a new project using DollyXs, compile it and make sure it loads in InDesign.
    4. Remove the template files and add your own source files except the basic .fr file and make sure it still loads in InDesign.
    5. Keep changing things one at a time in your .fr file and verify it still loads until it looks exactly like your original .fr file.
    Good luck.
Note: "No translation of key 'XXX' to British string." errors is in general quite harmless. It's only a problem with the string translation and should only affect string output in menus/dialogs etc. They should of course be fixed, but can generally be ignored for a while unless an infinite ASSERT loop prevents you from debugging.

  • Cross reference or hyperlinking not working for InDesign CS5 Book to ePub

I cannot get hyperlinks or cross reference links to work when generating an ePub from InDesign CS5. (7.0.0.355, Mac OS 10.6.2)
Here's how to recreate a simple test demonstrating the issue.
    1. Create a new InDesign Book (File -> New -> Book)
    2. Create document one (File -> New -> Document)
    3. Create a text box and type "Table of Contents"
    4. Create document two (File -> New -> Document)
    5. Create a text box in it and type "Story One"
    6. Create a new paragraph style and assign it to the Story One text
    7. Save document 2. I just kept the name Untitled-2.xhtml
    8. Back in document 1, add a cross-reference and select document 2, the style you created, and then "Story One". "Story One" should now appear under the previously typed Table of Contents text, and when highlighed, should show it is an active cross reference in the Hyperlinks panel.
    9. Save document 1. I just kept the name Untitled-1.xhtml
    10. Add both documents to the Book and save the book.
    11. From the Book panel, select Export Book to EPUB...
    12. Save the epub file and open it in Adobe Digital Editions.
Note that the text "Story One" appears as a hyperlink but when clicked does not switch to the document 2. It does nothing apparent when clicked.
Looking at the XHTML source for the first document, it is immediately evident why. The filename for document 2.thml is missing.  It looks like this: <a href="#anchor-anchor">
    When it should be : <a href="Untitled-2.xhtml#anchor-anchor">
The same thing works if you create a hyperlink instead of a cross reference.
I note then when I use the option to go to the destinate reference in the Cross Link (hyperlink) panel, it does switch to the second InDesign docuemtn. So the cross reference is functioning (in InDesign). But the link is broken in the ePub for the above mentioned reason.
    Bug? Something I'm overlooking?
    Entire source of Untitled-1.xhtml:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <title>Untitled-1.xhtml</title>
    <link href="template.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    </head>
    <body>
    <div id="untitled-1">
    <div class="generated-style">
    <p class="basic-paragraph" xml:lang='en-us'><span class="no-style-override">Table of Contents</span></p>
    <p class="basic-paragraph" xml:lang='en-us'><span class="no-style-override"><a href="#anchor-anchor">“story one”</a></span></p>
    </div>
    </div>
    </body>
    </html>

As far as I can tell, it has NOT yet been fixed in CS5.5.  I'm having the same problem.  I have about 90 hyperlinks to fix.
And the explanation that Teus Dejong gives indicates it's not going to be that helpful:  "we have found that only the links in documents split by the CS5 exporter will be fixed. For books the script does only work for references to earlier documents in the book, not for forward references. This means in practice that for most books the script will not repair the links and should be seen as a means to add the year only. At the moment I see no way to repair this, because the book epub output of InDesign does not contain sufficient information to repair links referencing forward to others documents in a book."
    It's pretty discouraging.

  • InDesign CS5 file won't open

At my work, we are working on formatting a book in InDesign. We are using the same base template for each file. I created a front matter document with a table of contents (TOC), list of figures (LOF), list of tables (LOT), acronyms, and glossary using that base template. Everything worked fine; I was able to generate the TOC, LOF, and LOT, and could work with the file with no problem. Then I saved and closed the file. Later that day, I was unable to open the file.
The message I get includes the statement, "You may not have permission or the file may be open already."
No one else had opened it and there are no lock files. The other person using InDesign also cannot open it. I made a copy of the file and saved it in another location and still could not open it.
The files are all on our network. We are using InDesign CS5 and Windows7 (64-bit). The only difference between this file and the others are the modifications that I made to some TOC paragraph styles so two paragraphs could be displayed side-by-side in the TOC (i.e., Chapter 1 Introduction all on one line, where Chapter 1 comes from one paragraph and Introduction comes from another by having no leading on one paragraph style).
Can anyone suggest a solution for this? This is rather urgent as the client needs the book by the end of next week.
Thank you so much for your help.
    regards,
    Marina Michaels

Yes:  The message I get says, "Cannot open (file path and name). You may not have permission or the file may be open already."
    Thanks!
