InDesign CS5 Mac Default Templates?

Does anyone know where the default templates that come with InDesign CS5 are located on a Mac? I've been able to access them since I got CS5, but now I don't know where the folder is. I've looked a lot, but can't find them... Does anyone know where they are?

Thank your for helping us out. It was really necessary to ask a coworker to open the file and export it in InDesign markup language.
Three hours later than expected, but it's done!
We are stuck here. I'm a Master Collection user of CS5, using only Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Bridge and Acrobat Pro. (I don't know why I bought the Master's). My coleague former Window user, got a Mac in May and downloaded the trial version of Design Studio Standard Collection of CS5.5. Before expiring, we purchased its license and filled it in the active trial version.
A couple of months ago we noticed that were missed Plug Ins on his version and contacted Adobe who instructed us to download the whole files again. We never did because it is a pain to get rid of the missing parts of a pre installed trial version etc.
I will ask Adobe to send a CD disk for his version.

Problems with InDesign CS5, Mac Pro & 5870

I am using InDesign CS5, OS X 10.7.3 (recent clean install) on a Mac Pro 3,1 (early 2008 Mac Pro) with Apple's ATI 5870 card.
When working with a series of InDesign files today I noticed an odd problem. On some pages, PDF documents that were placed in the layout were not displaying on screen (just a white, blank space). Also, some JPEG files were appearing garbled, as if corrupted, in some of the same layouts.
My first thought was that the graphic files in question had somehow become corrupted, but after opening them that didn't seem to be the case. The InDesign files were from different sources and other than this problem, the machine is running without issues.
I don't know why I thought to try this but I replaced the 5870 with the original ATI 2600 and the problem went away.
Nothing else seems to have a problem with the 5870 including some graphic heavy games.
Has anyone else experienced symptons like this?

Keith: What patch release of InDesign are you running? Hold down Cmd and select About InDesign.
Did you try resetting your preferences?
I don't believe that InDesign is GPU-accellerated, and you games probably are. So if there are issues with non-GPU graphics on your card, that could be it.
Certainly hardware failure of the video card is consistent with your narrative.
You might also find it useful to cycle through View > Display Performance

InDesign CS5 Mac & Suitcase Fusion 3.0 - Crashing when exporting PDFs

Hi there, experts in InDesign
I work as a professional graphic designer on a mac with inDesign. I make my living with exporting highres PDF files and sending them to the printers.
When I activate Extensis Suitcase fusion plug-ins, inDesign constantly crashes when I try to save PDFs. No matter how many pages, no matter how many fonts activated or used in the document.
Extensis support ist not really helpfull. After weeks of insisting, I have somebody who says, he's trying to take care. No solutions found yet.
The only thing is, to deactivate the plugins and switch fonts on or off manualy.
Anyone made the same frustrating experiences?
Anyone who knows, what causes the troubles?
Any hint is appreciated very much

Making InDesign CS5.5 default file opener?

Hi there,
I have InDesign CS5.5 installed on my PC (Windows 7). Yesterday I installed Adobe Creative Suite 3 to add Photoshop CS3 as Photoshop Elements 9 doesn't do CMYK. Now all my InDesign documents are attempting to open automatically in InDesign CS3 (which is part of the old Suite bundle).
How do I change settings (I tried associating file type with program, no joy) so that InDesign files open in CS5.5 by default?

Try reassociating the INDD files with CS5.5 by right clicking an INDD file and choosing open with. Browse to the EXE for InDesign CS5.5. This may or may not work.
Installing out of order is not a very good idea. You may well be better off uninstalling everything and reinstalling in order.

How to install fonts in indesign cs5 mac

My designer sent me some fonts for a document they created for me, but I have been unable to figure out how to install the fonts. Google search and adobe search and still I am not able to figure this out. I am using macintosh os 10.64.
Can someone provide any guidance?

If you've already searched Google for something like "install fonts on mac 10.6" and have followed the instructions on the first link (under "Locations where fonts can be stored") then you'll have to post more details for us to help you. For example:
Which fonts are they? (Not all fonts can be used by a Mac, like Type 1 fonts for Windows. Give us the complete name of the font, hopefully with a file extension.)
How do you know they are missing? (Sure, when you open up the document it gives you a missing font warning, but it might just be a font naming problem, like InDesign is looking for "Helvetica Neue LE Regular" and your font is called "Helvetica Neue Regular." You can use Find Font under the Type menu to find & replace if necessary. If you don't see the missing font warning when you open the file, how do you know the fonts are missing?)
Where have you tried to install them? (There's quite a few places to install a font on a Mac; have you tried any of them? It's worth pointing out that installing multiple copies of fonts in multiple locations can cause fonts to not be read in some circumstances.)
What version of InDesign are you using? (If it's CS5 and there's a "Document Fonts" folder in the same folder as the InDesign document you're trying to open, then InDesign is supposed to be able to read them, but sometimes it borks up and you have to move or delete the Document Fonts folder in order to get it to work.)
and there are other minor possibilities like
What languages are the fonts supposed to support? (InDesign puts its Chinese, Arabic etc. fonts all the way at the bottom of its window)
and
Are you sure that the fonts aren't damaged? (What size are the files? Are they still in a zipped folder? Maybe they were broken when you downloaded them from your email.)

Indesign CS5 (Mac) – mehrere Verknüpfungen numerisch/alphabetisch neu verknüpfen?

Hallo. Früher, bei CS3 Indesign, war es ohne Probleme möglich, zb 12 Bilder (001,002,...,012.tif) alle auf einmal neu zu verknüpfen - schön numerisch hintereinander, zack, fertig. Wenn ich in CS5 12 Bilder im Verknüpfungsmenü markiere, bietet es mir anschliessend nur "quer Beet" numerisch durcheinander an, diese neu zu verknüpfen, egal was ich im Finder- oder Verknüpfungsmenü einstelle (001-012 oder 012-001 sortiert. Weiss jemand was zu dazu?

Passiert das mit einem bestimmten Dokument oder mit allen Dokumenten?
Es kommt bei kleinen und großen Dokumenten vor. Dabei ist es egal wie alt es ist und wieviele Verknüpfungen es hat. Es kommt bei Dokumenten vor, die vor langer Zeit im CS3 erstellt wurden, oder gestern erst im CS5.5 am gleichen Mac erstellt wurden.
Hast Du versucht die problematischen Dokumente mit IDML zu bereinigen?
Ich glaube nicht, dass es direkt an den Dokumenten liegt. Wenn man InDesign Abwürgt und es wieder öffnet, wird das Dokument, das man vor dem Absturz öffnen wollte, meistens direkt geöffnet und InDesign funktioniert ohne Probleme. Beim nächsten Dokument kann man glück haben, dass es funktioniert, aber es kann auch wieder hängen bleiben.

InDesign CS5 (Mac) document is on strike (hangs for .idml, creating ToC)...

1. Document A: Tried to create a Table of Contents to replace the one I already have. INDD beachball.
2. Force quit INDD and restarted. On TOC re-creation with new style, same result. Force quit again.
3. Restarted Mac
4. Same result as 1. Set up a new style TOC, with and without PDF hyperlinks. Same result.
5. Reset INDD preferences. Reopened Document A, tried to create ToC. Same result.
6. Document B: Tried to create a TOC in another document. No problems, so must be document, rather than INDD as a whole.
7. Document A: Reopened original buggy document, tried to create IDML, but it froze at 57%. Force quit again...
What can I do to get a non-buggy, working document A? It has variables and cross-references but so does Document B.

Open as Copy did not work so I decided to go back to the previous version (I always make a new document when the client sends the next set of changes) and re-did around 5 hours of work, but now I have an up to date version that does not keep crashing and with all the cross-references working really well. Thought this would be better than sending it over to you because I guess no one would be able to fix what was causing the document to crash at the 57% point of idml creation or when clicking on the make ToC button.
I guess at the 57% point INDD is working on the table of contents or cross-references or those dratted variables which cause any document to crash if text containing them is selected. That is a bug which I wish Adobe would fix pronto. Only happens on Macs not the PC version of CS5 apparently.

Indesign CS4, CS5 Mac freezes/How can I get it to run?

I have been using Indesign CS5 Mac version. When I open it, after I make a new document, the color wheel keeps spinning until I force-close the program or restart my machine. I have taken CS5 off of my system and reloaded it with the same conclusion. Because I needed to use Indesign, I loaded version CS4, but came up with the same exact problem: the color wheel spinning continuously right after I have opened a new document.
Any suggestions?

How do I open a PageMaker document in InDesign CS5?

When I try to open a PageMaker document with InDesign CS5 (Mac OSX 10.7.5) I get an error message that it "Cannot Open file.... Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format might be missing, or the file may be open in another application." It's certainly not open in another application anywhere, It is, indeed, a PageMaker document which is supposed to be supported. Before updating to current Mac OS, I used to be able to easily open this file with an old copy of PageMaker, but that no longer works on this OS!

     I found another copy of this file on my laptop and I think it might not be broken. When I try to open it in text edit or Mellel, I get a much larger document with much of the material I know is supposed to be there. Would you be open to giving it one last shot? Aligning numerals and numerals in brackets within InDesign CS5 table

Hi there... I have a curly question that I have nearly cracked but it is still eluding me just slightly.
A project I am working on (Annual Report) within InDesign CS5 (Mac) contains a lot of tables with numbers listed in the financial section, as you'd expect.
I want to align all the list of numbers so that if one cell (within the table) has a series of numbers and then the next cell has another set of numbers but this time it is bracketed, that the last numeral without brackets will align with the last numeral within the brackets.
So essentially you would look at the list and the numerals will align up and down, bracketed or not...
I have been able to work this out outside of tables and within a table that is a set column width but my issues start when this style is applied to a column width that varies from the origin one where the style was created... unfortunately the columns throughout the financial section will vary in size and I can't keep making different individual styles for each varying column...
I hope someone out there has had a similar experience and can provide an answer to this what would seem fairly simple issue.

Indesign CS5 fails to package all links into the links folder, is this a bug? Is there a fix?

Indesign packaging leaves out some links, even though files are linked correctly prior to packaging. I am currently working on Indesign CS5, Mac 0S X, Version 10.5.8.

I had a problem with links on the master pages not being packaged. I found this and did the 7.0.3 Adobe update but no success.
I tried a few more web searches and found this

which is sort of the same problem.
The gist is to enlarge the slug area to the max (152.4mm or whatever that is in your preferred units). It seems that package ignores anything that has part of it on the pasteboard.
This is a pain when you only want to collect the active items but I expect someone at Adobe will sort this out in due course.

InDesign CS5.5 crashes while applying Template to a page

Hi,
We installed Adobe InDesign CS5.5. on 10 Windows XP SP3 32-bit workstations with 2 GB RAM. On every computer, when a user tries to apply a template to a page in a .indd document, InDesign immediately shuts down without displaying any error messages. Using the Sysinternals Tools and Dr.Watson, I think that the faulty plugin might be this one: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS5.5\Plug-Ins\Layout\PAGES PANEL.APLN.

I am not sure if this is a "Master Page since we use a French version (the functionnality is named "Gabarit" in French), so here is a printscreen which shows what our users try to do:
Immediately after the drop is completed, InDesign shuts down without further notice as described before.
I fully patched one machine to 7.5.3, rebooted it and it still does not work.
I know 2 GB is a little bit short, but since this is currently a corporate standard in my customer's organization, I will need to be sure that this is the direct and only cause before any upgrade request can be made.

InDesign CS5- where is create new from template?

I was looking for creating something new from one of the default templates of CS5, like I've done in the past with CS3 and CS4. However I find that there doesn't seem to be an option to create new from template.
Am I completely missing where it is? Have they called it something else? Have they removed the default ones completely from InDesign?

I should perhaps amend that to don't waste time with a template for multiple labels on a sheet. If you see something that works for you as far as basic layout, make a one-up lable from it (cupy the elements from a single label into a new file sized for only one label). Get a sheet full of blank labels, place that file in the upper left position on your larger sheet layout, then use Edit >Step and Repeat... to make the grid. This is much more efficient as it allows you to edit the entire sheet at one time by editing the single label file.
If you need to d a data merge, you can do nearly the same thing -- put a single blank label layout in the upper left position, add your merge field placeholders in that one label, and run the merge. DO NOT put anything beyond the single label layout on the sheet for a Data Merge job. Also, note that there is a bug in CS5/5.5 that will give you an incorrect multiple records merge if you try to preview. If you preview you must use Undo before the merge to go back to the pre-preview state.

InDesign CS5 for Mac crashes on opening file. Have replaced References and all other suggestions.

I am having a problem with InDesign CS5 crashing when I try to open a file that formerly opened just fine. Even restored versions from Time Machine or that I had a backup saved on an external hard drive will not open. I recently had to reconstruct a 90 page magazine for the same reason. I heard that Extensis Suitcase might be causing the problem so I disabled the plug-in, but still can't get the file open. The file in question is full of tables and would be a nightmare to redo. I am running Snow Leopard. It will open briefly and tell me that fonts are missing, then crash.

I have already disabled the Extensis plug-in and am activating the fonts
manually from within Extensis. It's the very latest version, Suitcase
Fusion 3, and it warps my chops that it doesn't play nice with InDesign.
I got rid of the Mindsteam grammar plug-in also and sent a tersely
worded letter to the vendor. When you pay nearly $200 for a plug-in, you
expect it to work. I don't have time for this aggravation! I truly
appreciate the help I've gotten here. This has certainly discouraged me
from using any third-party plug-ins. I was ready to go back to Quark
Xpress. For the moment, everything is behaving.
