InDesign CS5 Previews in Bridge CS5?

I have upgraded to CS5 and I have to do a "Save As" to get a preview of the document in Bridge. However, when I go back to it and open it again and close out, I get the CS5 icon instead of the preview. Is there a setting so that I don't have to do a "Save As" everytime I open the document? Very annoying!
Lynda

Which version of InDesign did you upgrade from? If you were using CS3-CS5 (maybe CS2 did, but I can't remember) each InDesign file should have been generating a small JPG inside the file which is what Bridge previews for you. If you were using an older version, yes you would have to save it as a new file in order for that JPG to be emdded.
By the way, there is a new feature in CS5 that lets you choose the number of page previews to include with your InDesign. This is really handy for browsing in Bridge, but keep in mind that it can increase the file size.
Yes, you will have to do a "save as" every time you open an older document. But once you have saved it as a CS5 file, you will be able to save over that file again and again.

  • Previews in Bridge CS5 not updating with changes in Photoshop CS5

The changes I make to a file in Photoshop are not updating in the same files previewed in Bridge. The Refresh button does not make a difference. Is this to do with Cache settings or some other Preferences perhaps?
How do I make my images in Bridge become accurate representations of my files being edited in Photoshop?

I am aware of the delay in writing the cache.  It only took one stuffed-up rename to make sure I was aware of that in CS3 Bridge. I use many different camera bodies and have to sort the images into Date Created order to rename them.  If Bridge hasn't finished reading all the EXIF data, the images will not be in the correct order and will rename out of order.
The xmp files are all created the first time I open the RAW files in ACR to do my edit.  Prior to this, they don't exist, so if I see they exist, I don't need to check their creation date.  This only changes if I am editing previously edited RAW files and I don't do that often.  Once is usually enough when dealing with that many files.
There shouldn't be a problem with 10,000 RAW files as the cache is set to 50GB and Adobe shows this as 500,000 files.  I know that is basically JPEG files.  A corrupt cache is not the same thing as corrupt RAW files, and there are several copies of the RAW files anyway as a good back-up strategy requires.
Neither of my swap files/scratch pads are on RAID drives so I doubt this is the problem.  I don't recall Bridge ever using more than 25% of the CPU Resources either.  It's a 32-bit program anyway and probablky won't use all four cores of the Quad-core CPU...I might be wrong there, but I haven't noticed it doing so anyway.
My WPI figures were much higher when I was running a RAID0 Boot Disc, but one disc went belly-up and I decided against a RAID primary boot disc after that.
I'm sure that there are lots of people out there with lesser-spec'd computers who are not having the same problem.  Equally, I'm sure that there are others out there with the same or similar problems.  I'd like to hear from them about what they have done to eliminate the problem, or are we all doing work-arounds because Adobe haven't fixed a bug.  I appreciate your attempts to help with this issue Curt, so don't feel that I'm simply dismissing your suggestions.  I am hopeful though that someone who uses their system and CS5 in ways similar to me might have encountered and solved this issue.
Screen capture showing the Resource Monitor.  Bridge going flat-out using only 7% of CPU and very little RAM.  I have hardware rendering enabled.

  • Previews in Bridge CS5 are not sharp

The preview panel images in Bridge CS5 are not sharp (almost blurry). Also when I select a thumb and view it using the space bar method (from within the Bridge) the image doesn't appear sharp. Anybody have an idea why? They look fine in Bridge CS4. I've been looking for a preference setting to no avail. Doesn't matter if it's RAW or JPG (same results).
When I select an image and view it using the space bar method (while in the finder) it looks sharp/normal.
    Thanks.

[I've replied to the wrong thread, but this is still relevant]
The soft previews also affect raw images which have been cropped within Camera Raw. The 100% preview within Bridge looks soft compared to when editing in Camera Raw.
Raw images which haven't been cropped look sharp at 100% magnification, but not fit-to-screen.
The raw files I'm dealing with are CR2, not DNG. However, I converted one to DNG and tried the full size jpeg preview option, but it looks the same. Even if it did work, it would mean converting all CR2 files to DNG, which is a lot of extra work to get round this one problem.
Here's what I'm seeing. They are both viewed at 100%. The first file shows a screen capture of the Bridge preview, the second within Camera Raw. Again, the raw files are cropped images, which seems to cause this 100% preview problem.

  • Help with InDesign spread previews in Bridge CS6

Our company is updating to CS6 and needs to be able to view InDesign files as spreads as we did in CS3. We produce many catalogs a year and each spread is a separate file. We use Bridge (CS3) to view the entire catalog at once. Now, with CS6, we can only see one page of the document, even though the preference is set to 2 pages in InDesign. We need an update. Please help!

I don't believe so. It's how Bridge displays InDesign files. In CS6, it's showing a single page and not the full spread that it used to. There is a preferance in Indesign that you can set the size and number of pages to preview. It's set to 2, which is the default.
This is a critical feature that needs to be restored. The link for the feature Request is not working, nor is the reporting a bug link.
After reading someone's comment, it appears that InDesign does not write the appropriate meta data for bridge to preview the spread, so perhaps it is an InDesign issue. Nevertheless, it has not been fixed since 2011!
How can I get through to Adobe???

  • Bridge CS5 - no MPEG-2 transport stream preview

    Can anybody help?
    I m running Win7 64 bit, ProdPremium CS5.
I capture from camera via firewire MPEG files.
The preview in Bridge CS5 is not psossible (only thumbnail is present).
Preview using Windows media player and Nero Showtime is running fine.
No preview in G-Spot (rendering failed-following is the error reported by DirektShow).
What can i do, i dont want install some codecs, not knowing if there will be another failure or not in my system.

Let me follow up on my post about installing 3rd party CODECs:  DON"T!!!!!!!!!!
I did it and ended up having to do a clean re-install of my entire workstation from ground up.  They got in there and next thing I knew Premiere slowed to a crawl and capture went to H**L.  I was told by an Adobe staffer on this forum that I had made a big error in doing that and it was true.
Now I just wish they would help us/me resolve this no MPEG preview in Bridge and Windows Media Player.  Please, please, please!

  • Bridge CS5 Not Working

I currently have PS CS5 installed on my Mac OS X 10.6.8 with Snow Leopard.  PS5 works fine but when I try to use bridge, bridge opens but that's it.  If I try to do anything I get the spinning beach ball and eventually have to force quit.
I have done all I can outside of bridge ... repaired permissions, uninstalled and reinstalled the software.  However, i can't even open up preferences for bridge as it gives me the spinning ball.
I am new to the mac (3 months), so I need some handholding on what to do.
    Thanks for your help.

Strange this did not solve it, as said 95 % chance but I really did expect it to work for you. Now I'm running a bit out of options I'm afraid.
Is it possible you have CS4 running in the background?  You can only run one version of Bridge at a time.
Curt, as you can only run 1 Bridge version of the time you can have all other CS Suite applications active at the same time regardless their version (at least that is on a Mac but I have no reason to believe it should not be the same on Windows). I can have PSCS4 and PSCS5 both open and active but the only limitation is Bridge. Using the open command Bridge opens the file in the corresponding CS version PS (Bridge CS5 opens in PSCS5 by default). If you choose the open with command you can without problems choose to open a file in PSCS 4 and work on it. Save and closing it will update the preview in Bridge CS5
    DJ,
You might give it one more try with the clean tool from Adobe, see also this link from Adobe Support:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
Download the clean tool for Mac and carefully read the Read me files that come with it.
Be sure to update all custom tools, brushes actions (but since your a bit fresh on the Mac you probably won't have much customized?)
Use the uninstaller that comes with the Adobe Application (you will find the uninstaller for CS5 in the Adobe Photoshop CS5 folder in your default application folder (should be on root level, not in your user account).
First start PS and in the help menu choose to deactivate the software. Quit PS and start the uninstaller for CS5.
Be sure to also check the option to deactivate permanently, this erases your serial number from your system but surely you'l have that number stored on a saved place, you will need it again after reinstall
Use the clean tool and also check for the files from the prior mail, not all cache files will be deleted by the clean tool and you might want to trash them manually.
Install again with serial number and sign in on your Adobe ID and try again.

  • Photo Downloader Adobe Bridge CS5

    Hi
I wonder how i can save the import settings in photo downloader to always have same settings when extracting images?
It always adjust it self back to default and i need to find my location again. Any suggestins?
Also. When working in CS5, and i want to apply e.g sharpening i go to filters and the slide appears, moving down to sharpen the new "window" appears on the left side and not the right.
    What button have a touch???
    Please help
    Thanks!

    Simon

There was a bug in CS5.1 is this the version you are using?  If so here is a solution from a past thread.
If you want to maintain the Downloader dialog preferences (advanced dialog, metadata, etc.) the answer is in the thread referenced previously, but from what I've found, here's a little clarification.
N.B. This is for Windows 7 x64 (Home premium, but probably the same for Pro/Ultimate). This may work for macs too (change directory of course)
    1) Create a new folder called "Bridge CS5" (leave the Bridge CS5.1 folder at least for now. you may want to redirect your cache)
              EX: C:\Users\[Your USER NAME HERE]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS5
    2) Copy the "APDPreferences.xml" file -  if you have one - from the Bridge CS5.1 folder to the new "Bridge CS5" folder you just created (should be the only required file  in the folder). It's OK to leave the folder empty too.
    3) Make your changes to the downloader dialog, save a file or two, exit normally.
When you open it again, it should return to the defaults you just set up.

  • Photoshop CS6 & Bridge CS5

Presently I have installed on my computer (Windows platform) Photosop extended, Dreamweaver, Premiere pro, encore, all of them CS5
Can I upgrade only Photoshop to CS6 with Bridge CS6 ??
Will Bridge CS6 co-exist with Bridge CS5, or will it overwrite Bridge CS5, in which case, what will I do with my other CS5 software?

Bridge CS5 and Bridge Cs6 will Coexist on the same machine together.
The CS5 apps will invoke Bridge CS5, and the CS6 apps will know to invoke CS6 bridge.
You can however only have one instance of Bridge running at any given time

  • InDesign thumbnails previews inconsistent

For some reason, my InDesign CS5 files are inconsistent in showing the thumbnail preview in Bridge CS5.
I recently did a fresh install when upgrading to Lion. The problem was present both before and after (but I was kinda hoping it's go away after the fresh install).
    Here's a preview.
The problem's become increasingly more frequent in my recent files. My earliest .indd files from way back in CS1-CS3 all show previews.
I've tried purging the cache, turning cache settings on and off, and turned on 'Always High Quality' and 'Generate 100% Previews'. I've browsed boards as well as these pages, but without finding something similar.
But I've noted that the recent files that do have previews, all have a tiny double-ring icon in the top right corner. This icon is not present on my oldest files that also have previews though. And what's more: The preview problems starts around the same time files begin sporting this icon.
EDIT: That's the exact time I jumped from CS3 to CS5.
Doing a mouse over on the icon reveals nothing I'm afraid.
If anyone is able to help it's be awesome, as it's severely hurting my workflow.

I checked that some time back, and my settings were already set to save preview.
My previews were set to save as medium though, and I thought what the heck, and tried changing it to extra large.
The previews are now successfully showing?! (Albeit I have to open the document and save it.)
I usually like getting to the bottom of why stuff isn't working, but at this point I don't care anymore, I'm just really happy it's fixed for whatever reason. Sometimes you just need to fiddle around with settings, and I didn't think of fiddling there.
    Thanks a bunch, Curt!

  • Bridge CS5 not previewing all PDF pages

    Hi there
After installing CS5 bridge only shows the first 2 pages of PDFs in the preview pane. Older PDFs seem to be ok, just not newly created ones. What am I doing wrong?
I note that there's a preference for this in InDesign for INDD/IDML previews - is there one for PDFs?
    Thanks!
    Luke

Thanks for your reply Fran, but I think you misunderstood the problem. My biggest annoyance with Bridge is that I need to open a PDF in Acrobat, Preview, or even Quick Look to view more than the first two pages, when I should be able to in Bridge.
I understand for cross-platform reasons you can't rely on OSX's native PDF viewing capability, but come on - Adobe developed the PDF format. Is this too much to ask?
I realise you can change your settings in InDesign so that it embeds previews for all pages, but this bloats your PDF file a LOT. Why cannot Bridge just render PDFs without these InDesign-embedded previews?
At the moment Bridge can't even tell me how many pages there are in a PDF before I open it - it always comes up with '2' if there are 2 or more. Hopeless.
I'd be happy to turn on previewing for all pages in InDesign just for INDD and IDML files as I don't care about the size of these files, but then you get the nasty huge PDF file sizes, even on Smallest File Size export setting. So I have to leave that turned off.
    Thanks anyway
    Luke

  • How do I get Bridge CS5 to display CR2 previews???

    Dear wonderful Adobe community
I have recently upgraded to Photoshop CS5 from CS4. As far as I can read/ascertain/gather Camera Raw 6 came with the package and installed when the main installation ran.
Bridge CS4 displays my CR2 Raw file previews from my 5d MKII no problem. Bridge CS5 however does not and all I get is the statutory CR2 symbol.
Can someone please help help help!
    Thanks :O)

    David,
You may need to update Camera Raw to version 6.1RC (RC = Release Candidate or advanced beta).
ACR 6, which ships with CS5, was frozen a long time ago, before ACR 5.7 shipped, and it does not support some cameras supported by ARC 5.7 in CS4.  I don't know if this applies to your camera model or not.
    For more info:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2010/05/camera_raw_61_release_candidat.html
You might need to purge the cache after updating to Camera Raw 6.1 and relaunching Photoshop and Bridge.

  • Bridge cs5 camera raw 6.5 to 6.5 and new bridge cs6 preview problem

    Hi,
when i actualize camera raw from 6.5 to 6.6 the preview can`t give me right preview after 1 adjustment in camera raw.Image apears like when we open it in camera raw and it last few seconds with the yellow exclamation mark.
Months ago the only solution i found after several instals was to turn back to camera raw 6.5.
Now im trying beta bridge cs6 and problem come back for me again.
I use Nikon D3x with 14 bits ~49MB .nef files in Windows 7 64 bits.
Is any one have same problem? And why only in 6.6 (and new camera raw 7.0) and not in 6.5?
    Thanks

I use Bridge CS5 with camera raw 6.7.1 in combibnation with a canon 6D and a canon 5D Mark2. The raw files from the 5D are shown in bridge, the raw files from the 6D are not. There is just an icon. The camera raw add-on is the latest usable update for Windows, the canon 6d is listed as compatible. Has anyone an idea what to do?
The Canon 6D id NOT supported by ACR 6.7.1. It was supported for the very first time in ACR 7.3 whch requires CS6 to run.
Therefore you will never be able to open raw CR2 files from the 6D directly in CS5.
If you do not plan on upgrading, you can download the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.3 (always use the latest version, it's not tied to your version of Photoshop at all), install it like any other application and then run it on each batch of CR2 files to convert them to raw DNG files that you can then open in your version of Photoshop and ACR.

  • I can't preview RAW files in Bridge CS5 or open them in Camera Raw

I've been using Photoshop CS5, Bridge and Camera Raw 6.7 with no problems whatsoever.  I recently upgraded the OS on my MacBook Pro to 10.8.5 and can no longer preview RAW files in Bridge, or open them in Camera Raw.
I've downloaded the Adobe DNG converter, but would much prefer to using my existing workflow if possible.
Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance for any help!

Adobe doesn't support CS5, an when I spoke to Apple, I was told that this is a known issue with OS 10.8.5 and that they're working on a patch.  In the meantime I'm using Adobe's DNG as a workaround.
Have not heard before of this Known Issue, also find it hard to believe being true. But can't test my self because I only have CS6 and CC installed and always use Photodownloader to convert to DNG upon import. I have just installed the 10.8.5 update and checked in Bridge CC pointing to an attached card reader. no problem in showing the CR2 thumbs, it works as always and as expected.
To my knowledge Bridge CS5 is already 64 bits and I can't think of any valid reason why an OS update would cause this problem so suddenly (but I'm not a technician I have to confess…)
However, I would first try a check and repair permissions from Apple Disk Utility and also try Cocktail (good and cheap 3th party maintenance application for Mac) to clear caches and check permissions.
Also try a new user account just for testing to rule out your current account as the culprit.
