Indesign CS6 8.0.1 report "missing" links after package

After reopening indd file from package folder, links palate is fullfill with brocken links. Links have correct new path to links folder in package. Sometimes indd wont package all links.
Whats wrong?

That looks correct. ID should always look for links first in the absolute path saved in the file, then in the current directory withthe file itself, and finally in subdirectories, but it cannot go up the the chain. This is why you are able to hand off a Package folder to a service provider, or transfer it from one computer to another, without loss of functionality. I don't see anything in what you've posted so far that looks like you've violated the rules so unless you've left something out, or misled us in some way, I think there's a problem in ID itself on your system. The first thing to try is to trash your preferences. See Replace Your Preferences.
You can also try, for diagnostic purposes, creating and using a new user account.

  • [CS4 WinXP] InDesign crashes on opening docs with missing links

    Hi,
I expect this issue is more to do with the PC than InDesign itself but I would be interested to know if anyone else has seen a similar problem (and been able to resolve it).
The design team in my office have just been given new HP Compaq PCs with CS4 (inc. InDesign 6.0.4). When these designers attempt to open certain InDesign documents, their InDesign will crash with no warnings or dialogues. The same documents can be opened on other (older) PCs without crashing.
The documents which crash all contain links to graphics on a network which is not available. The same document will open on older PCs but will obviously report missing links. The network is not available to the older PCs either. The older PCs are also running InDesign CS4 (6.0.4).
If the failing documents are opened on older PCs and the links removed, these can then be opened on the new PCs with no issues.
As I said, I expect this is a PC/Networking issue rather than InDesign itself but any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Simon Kemp

Try changing the preferences regarding checking links on open, and also using a workspace that doesn't include the links panel or preflight. That might be enough to get the files to open, and exporting to .idml or .inx and resaving might solve th problem (for that matter, it wouldn't hurt to export one from the older machine and see if that will open).

  • Mac InDesign CS6 crashes when adding files with links to Windows network into book

Our Mac network is unstable, so I tested linking InDesign CS6 files (on my Mac's hard drive) to .jpg files on our company's very stable Windows network rather to the same .jpg files on our Mac network. I tested with 4 simple, small InDesign files. When these 4 files were linked to images on a storage drive on our Mac network, I could drag all 4 files into a book and export the book to PDF. But when linked to the same images on the Windows network, while each file would open fine with no errors, and while I could generate a PDF from each individual file, the moment I dragged the 4 files into a book, InDesign crashed, generating pages of information in the crash report form.
I have no problem making 500 page manuals on my hard drive, comprised of about 50 InDesign files, with links to THOUSANDS of image files on a storage drive on our Mac network. Is there some trick to making a book with files linked to images on a Windows network? If there is no simple answer, who could I call to set us up so this will work?
I'm using InDesign CS6 for Mac, totally updated, version 8.0.1.
    Thank you so much!!!

It seems, this is all you need to do... your message isn't clear as to whether you've fixed your issue or not.
    [Extract from link above]...
"Add the network share(s) to your Favorites in Bridge and drag assets into your layouts from Bridge or Mini-Bridge. The paths stored in the InDesign links will be full network paths, and both sets of machines should have no problem finding them. This is the more usual InDesign workflow."

  • InDesign CS6 ePub. TOC is not linked

    Hello
    using InDesign CS6 8.0.2
created the TOC and inserted at the begin of the book
exporting as ePub 2.0.1 the inserted TOC is not linked to the page/chapter so I can't click on it to navigate the ebook.
    What can I check?

    Hi,
Table of Contents if placed in InDesign is treated like any other story and is exported just like another text frame. This behavior is improved in InDesign CC and the TOC links are now intact in exported EPUB. All that is required is to check the option "Make text anchor in source paragraph" in Table of Contents dialog (this option was added in CC version) while creating TOC.
If you are looking for creating navigational TOC (one which is not placed in ID and is available in EPUB) in InDesign CS6, it can be created by selecting the TOC style from the TOC style dropdown available in EPUB Export Options dialog.
Please let me know if there are queries. I would be glad to assist you!

  • Links panel in InDesign CS6 isn't auto-sorting updated links

In previous versions of InDesign if you sorted the links panel by status it would automatically update the order of the links when their status changed. So when a link went from being missing to being re-linked, it would automatically change position in the list.
In CS6 I've been having the problem that links that need updating don't sort to the top of the list (or the bottom), instead they stay in alphabetical order even though the status column has been selected as the sorting technique. If I click the status column I can sort them manually, but then once they have been updated they stay where they are instead of dropping down with the rest of the up-to-date links.
Essentially the links panel only sorts if I do it manually. But continually manually sorting really isn't an option given the number of links I need to manage while under deadline. I work at a newspaper and have hundreds of links that are updated from various sources. I need to quickly see what has been updated at a glance.
I've checked through my preferences but can't find anything that may be causing this. Additionally I've recently upgraded to a new computer and operating system, but the sorting problem persists. (I've upgraded to a new iMac with the Maverick OS, 10.9.2) I had hoped that upgrading and reinstalling might fix the issue, but it hasn't.
Any suggestions? I'm really hoping it's just a preference I've overlooked.

inDesign links documents via a file path.
It doesn't actually add the image itself to the document, but rather relays a link to the where file resides on the hard drive.
It then draws a representation of that image in the layout using a proxy thumbnail.
So when it's linked it is actually looking at a file path, say something like
If I move that file to a computer where the my documents folder has a different name say "C:\MyDocuments\Eugene\Images\Eugene1.png"
    "C:\MyDocuments\Marcelo\"
Then when I open the file on Marcelo's computer the link would still be
    "C:\MyDocuments\Eugene\Images\Eugene1.png"
I need to redirect the link to go to
    "C:\MyDocuments\Marcelo\Images\Eugene1.png"
As stated above you should use
    File>Package
Zip the folders the computer generates - and then send them to a new computer.
Unzip and work on the file.

  • In InDesign CS6/Cloud, is it possible to link selected text on one page to a separate page, or even to an object on a separate page?

I have an InDesign layout with multiple pages. The layout involves text and images, and there are text references for those images, that end up a page or two behind the image itself. What I'd like to know is if I can select certain text (for example, I want to select the number 3 in the text "Image 1 on page 3") and link it to a specific page, or to the actual placed image for "Image 1", so that if I have to re-paginate the layout later, the number 3 in the text will automatically change to a 2 or a 4, much like the functionality of page numbers. Let me know if my question isn't clear enough. Thanks!

This will work if you all use the file syncing of the Creative Cloud desktop application and then you use the Collaborate option for the folder containing all the files. Then it will work on each of your desktops.
Links to files will not work in the browser when viewing the InDesign document from https://creative.adobe.com/files.

  • Exported PDF is Blank (branched, formerly Re: InDesign CS6 Export to PDF has missing objects)

Just recently went from CS5.5 to CS6 and now when I export files in InDesign to pdf they open and are totally blank. What am I doing wrong?

    Jeanne,
I've brancehed this to a new discussion because I'm pretty sure your problem is differnt fromthe one inthe trhead where you posted originally.
What's your OS? Are the PDFs opening automatically at the end of export, or are you opening them manually?
Are your pages blank in ID if you switch to Preview mode?

  • InDesign CS6 Export to PDF has missing objects

When exporting to PDF, I have a 6-page document that has missing objects from the master.
Here's the document with the content removed:
    lab.cyke.net/pdf/MissingObjects.pdf
The first and last pages were constructed correctly. All pages in between are screwed up. Any ideas?

@Jongware – I have a case with InDesign CS5.5 7.5.3 on Mac OS X 10.6.8 where master pages based on each other lead to false representation of page objects.
Not only in pdf export, but also on the actual InDesign pages. Made an IDML from it, opened that in InDesign CS4 and the error was gone.
This problem is documented at the German-Swiss forum "HilfDirSelbst" at:
    http://www.hilfdirselbst.ch/gforum/gforum.cgi?post=496285#496285
Some screen grabs together with the IDML are attached there.
After opening the IDML from InDesign CS4 with the error gone, I exported another IDML from CS4, opened that in InDesign CS5.5 7.5.3 and the error was present.
To detect the error look at pages 1* and 4 of the mentioned screen grabs.
    Uwe
//EDIT: *the screen grab of the pages palette of InDesign CS5.5 shows the error on page 4 only. The error is present outside of page 1 as well, but cannot show on the screen grab.

  • InDesign keep telling me I have missing links.

    Hi all,
We recently did some server switching at work and let me say upfront this is not one of the "How do I update thousands of links?" questions. I have already combed through those with mixed results. Anyhow, after moving everything and opening ID documents from the new location, it tells me the links are missing yet when I check the paths they are correct (for the new location, as if ID figured it out). Upon opening, if I look really quickly at the links panel, the red question marks are there and it seems to quickly correct itself. Again, the updated link paths are correct. My problem is, it does this every single time we open the same document. It always tells me links are missing and automatically fixes them. I have tried saving the ID file under a new name with the same results. I have tried "Save as" under the same name with the same results.
Anyone ever run into this and if so, is there a way to prevent it? It is somewhat annoying to have to click OK on a pop up every time I open a document when I know the links have been updated and are pointing to the right source.
    Thanks to anyone with input.

Thanks for the responses but perhaps a little of more information is necessary, ....
It is not just one file, it is all files after the server switch.
We have two users on ID CS5 and I am on ID CS4, both ID CS5 users experience the same problem and when they export it to .idml so I can get at it, same thing.
These files were all converted from Pagemaker to ID.
Again, the path appears to be correct (after ID self-corrects) as an end result but it keeps asking every time the file is opened (regardless of the ID CS4 or ID CS5 user).
I'll try converting a single ID CS4 file on my machine tomorrow to .idml and then re-opening to eliminate some variables and see what happens. Will post results.

  • Finding Missing Programmes & Reporting Missing Links

Sometimes a programme that appears to be missing can be found in a different way. As an example: Searching on Murdoch Mysteries brings up most but not all available episodes and is a useful way to work through the series. Searching on the title of specific episodes (found in this case on IMDB) showed that episodes missing from the original search results were available. So don't give up if you can't find what you are looking for - another approach may be successful. There is no obvious reason why these episodes are not showing up in the initial search and I would happily draw this to attention so that the appropriate links sould be made. Can anyone advise the best way to do this? Thank you

There are listings for the series Discovering Film starting at www.sky.com/tv/show/discovering-film/episodes#/season-1 . This also gives access to watch some episodes and download others. On Sky Go the most comprehensive list seems to be generated by searching on “Discovering Film” not “Discovering Film Stars” which is an option offered. A different combination of episodes appear to be available to watch from here. The numbering is a bit of a mess so here’s a list: Series 1 - 1 Discovering: Marlene DietrichSeries 1 - 2 Discovering: Grace KellySeries 1 - 3 Discovering: Lauren BacallSeries 1 - 4 Discovering: Deborah KerrSeries 1 - 5 Discovering: Robert MitchumSeries 1 - 6 Discovering: Ginger RogersSeries 1 - 7 Discovering: Ava GardnerSeries 1 - 8 Discovering: Cary GrantSeries 1 - 9 Discovering: Ingrid Bergman (currently listed within Ep5 grouping)Series 1 - 10 Discovering: Fred AstaireSeries 1 - 11 Discovering: Humphrey BogartSeries 1 - 12 Discovering: Burt LancasterSeries 1 - 13 Discovering: Henry Fonda (currently listed within Ep1 grouping) Series 1 - 1 Discovering: Brigitte Bardot (on other lists BB is Ep14 and Ep1 is Charlie Chaplin)Series 1 - 2 Discovering: Greta GarboSeries 1 - 3 Discovering: Bing CrosbySeries 1 - 4 Discovering: Vivien LeighSeries 1 - 5 Discovering: James CagneySeries 1 - 6 Discovering: John WayneSeries 1 - 7 Discovering: Charlton HestonSeries 1 - 8 Discovering: Judy GarlandSeries 1 - 9 Discovering: David NivenSeries 1 - 10 Discovering: Gary CooperSeries 1 - 11 Discovering: Natalie WoodSeries 1 - 12 Discovering: Spencer TracySeries 1 - 13 Discovering: James Mason Series 3 - 1 Discovering: Marilyn MonroeSeries 3 - 2 Discovering: Frank SinatraSeries 3 - 3 Discovering: Elizabeth TaylorSeries 3 - 4 Discovering: Marlon BrandoSeries 3 - 5 Discovering: Audrey HepburnSeries 3 - 6 Discovering: Gene KellySeries 3 - 7 Discovering: Katharine HepburnSeries 3 - 8 Discovering: Sophia LorenSeries 3 - 9 Discovering: Kirk DouglasSeries 3 - 10 Discovering: Bette DavisSeries 3 - 11 Discovering: Clark GableSeries 3 - 12 Discovering: James StewartSeries 3 - 13 Discovering: Rita Hayworth

  • InDesign Server 5.5 Missing Links

I'm getting missing link errors in the log when InDesign Server opens files. The missing links reported are for xml files and snippets. Opening the document and looking in the links pallette shows no missing links. I tried using AppleScript to see if I could access these links but they are not there. I can find the links if I open the document in a text editor so I know they are actually there but I cannot seem to find a way to get rid of them. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
Has any one else seen this problem?
Is there some way to "clean" the file? ( I already tried doing a save as on the files. )

I encounter the same problem with InDesign Server CS6: I get warning messages about missing snippets. This does not prevent to generate PDF's successfully (with madeToPrint server), but I would like to understand…
    Any idea?

  • InDesign CS6 Links

Does anyone know if InDesign CS6 displays an alert if you link a missing file to an older version with the same filename?  Or, if you link a missing file to a completely different filename?  InDesign CS3 would display such an alert, which would give you the chance to catch a potential error.  InDesign CS6 seems to link to whatever filename you click on, without question.

This is something you'll have to look after manually.
Probably best to never have files of the same filename.
    You could have
    imagename_v1.tif
    imagename_v2.tif
or something that makes better sense.
    But follow a naming convention.
I have images for the web all the time and I would save it as
    homepage_170x120
    homepage_500x250
    homepage_50x50
this lets me know the right image for the homepage at the correct size.
I suggest you adopt a naming convention for your files to avoid confusions.

  • Hello world for indesign CS6 SDK

Is there any hello world plugin for the Indesign CS6 SDK. Please share the link of the source

The InDesign SDK is shipped with number of sample plugins which you can build and have a look at the source code. Have a look at the sample plugin projects placed in the folder
"(Path of the InDesign SDK)\build\win\prj". In this folder there are projects for a lot of sample plugins which demonstrate programming different aspects of InDesign, pick up any of these plugins and study the code. You can find more details on these plugins in the chm file shipped with sdk.
For the start i would recommend you start with the writefishprice plugin.
