  • InDesign CS6 will only run "as administrator"

    I have Windows 7 on a 32-bit computer. I can only start InDesign CS6 if I "run as administrator." The first problem is that it doesn't remember things like "recently viewed" when the computer is shut down and restarted.
      The more serious problem is that the Help doesn't work at all. It just sits there or, if I hunt around, it tells me I have no internet connection.
       If I open normally, it gets to the startup page and then says that the program has failed and will be shut down. All files are up to date.
      I installed it on a second 32-bit computer (my laptop) and got the same results.
       I have no way of knowing if this is related or not, but I cannot "drag" a file onto the open area in InDesign. A circle shows up as a pointer and nothing happens.

    See this post: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ff431742.aspx
    It explains the details from Manish's reply, and will atleast get you working.
    But this has to do something with the user account. I think that you should check that your account has sufficient privileges that let the software make changes to system files on disc. For example, make sure that the account you're signed into is part of the Administrators group.
    Btw, does this also happen with other software as well, or is it just InDesign CS6?

  • InDesign CS6 doesn`t start. It stops at "Starting Up Service Registry" and crashes

    When trying to start InDesignI see the Program starting screnn. But it stops at "Starting up Service Registry". Then i get the Windows-message "Adobe InDesign CS6 doesn't work anymore"
    I work with WIN 8.1
    Thanks for helping....

    It could be a lot of different things at this point. Here's what we know: https://www.google.com/search?q=indesign+starting+up+service+registry&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q= indesign+starting+up+service+r…

  • I just got InDesign CS6 and am running it on an iMac and I know the license is good for two computers which will come in very handy for me.  How do I set it up to access it from my second iMac?

    I just got InDesign CS6 and am running it on an iMac and I know the license is good for two computers which will come in very handy for me.  How do I set it up to access it from my second iMac?

    I just had an afterthought, Peter, if I could bother you further; if the downstairs iMac that I want to access it from is in my wife's name and not mine (even though I'll be the one using it on her computer) does that affect anything or can I simply load the software straight into her computer without any complications?

  • InDesign CS6 doesn't see links like previous versions did

    iMAC 27"
    Snow Leopard
    CS6 8.0.1
    850gigs of free space
    12 gigs of RAM
    When using the relink button, I navigate to the window where the link I want is residing.
    "Search for Missing Links in This Folder" is checked.
    "Show Import Options" is unchecked.
    Previous versions highlighted my link as soon as arrived at the folder.
    CS6 is blind, doesn't highlight the link.
    Any ideas?

    I BELIEVE THE ISSUE IS WITH THE OS, NOT WITH INDESIGN.
    I have one machine running snow and 5.5. It automatically highlights the file name of the missing link once you navigate to the folder.
    My other machine is running lion and 5.5 and 6. In neither InDesign 5.5, nor InDesign 6, does the file name automatically highlight.
    If this was a feature tied to ID 5.5, then it should continue to do so in Lion, which it does not.

  • Dragging a single image from mac Preview to InDesign CS6 doesn't work but 2 or more images does?

    I usually take anywhere form 2500 to 5000 photos in any single day's session. Because of this, I need an easy way to sort through them and grab just the one's I need to import to my InDesign "book". I have been using CS3 for years now, and what I always did was open up Preview on my Mac to browse all my days photos. Then when I found a good one, I would simply drag that single image over to my opened InDesign screen and just drop it into a page. I would then go back to Preview and continue this procedure until I had looked through all the days images. I could even drag multiple images over and once I was over InDesign I can just click each image and pop them into various pages with ease. Then I upgraded to CS6 and I've hit a kink in the works. When I drag over a single image to InDesign, before I drop it into the page my mouse pointer looks like 3 tiny paste images (the little rectangle with the folded down upper left corner). If I release my mouse to drop the image into InDesign, it just flys back to Preview and doesn't drop into InDesign. Now if I get 2 or more images from Preview, this process works just like it always did. But 1 single image... never. I've tried holding down command, shift, control, option, and combos of those buttons to see if anything changes and it never does. I always get the mouse icon with 3 little paste icons. In CS3 if I dragged a single image it would only show 1 paste icon and 3 icons if I dragged 2 or more, but not in CS6. Is there a setting I'm missing or a preference? I've tried looking through everything that I can find to no avail. There has to be a way??? Thanks!

    Use Bridge instead
    good luck

  • InDesign CS6 Doesn't Recognize Plugins

    For some reason InDesign needs to be continuously uninstalled and reinstalled on my Mac running 10.8. It will work for a day or two and then stop opening. When I try to launch it either just crashes or gives me an error that it doesn't recognize a long list of plugins. UI.InDesignPlugin to name one. Then says it needs to be reinstalled.
    Is anyone else experiencing this? It's getting really frustrating because I've uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign more times than I can count.

    I had a similar issue with acrobat, thats why I ask. Adobe had me go through and deactivate the licensing for creative cloud within Photoshop (if my memory serves correctly).  Then they had me reactivate the licensing. I can't remember the exact steps, but my suggestion is to go to adobe tech support (you can use their chat even), and have them walk you through reactivation of creative cloud. My guess is that your indesign never fully activated properly. What's led me to believe that is the thread concerning your library dispatch manager.
    Thread 1:: Dispatch queue: com.apple.libdispatch-manager
    0   libsystem_kernel.dylib              0x95e839ae kevent + 10
    1   libdispatch.dylib                   0x9191ccc5 _dispatch_mgr_invoke + 993
    2   libdispatch.dylib                   0x9191c7fd _dispatch_mgr_thread + 53
    Call Adobe, tell them your indesign is crashing upon launching and they will walk you through the steps of deactivating and reactivating the licensing. Let us know how that goes and if that is indeed the issue. I know that was my issue when I had the same problem with Acrobat.
    When your indesign crashes, does the red adobe dispatch manager pop up before it crashes? If so, then it is definitely the same issue I was having.

  • Print Booklet in Indesign cs6 doesn't line up correctly

    Has anyone had luck with the "Print Booklet" tool to proof a multi-page catalog? I tried printing double sided on a Canon ir4035 and found that the front and rear sides didn't line up.
    I'm thinking of buying a nice new 12 x 18 color laser, and I want to make sure that "print booklet" really works on double sided printers before spending the money.
    Thanks,
    John

    I suspect the problem is not InDesign, but the printer. Printers in this class just don't have the same sort of tolerances that a printing press can achieve for sheet-to-sheet and front-to-back registration. It's not unusual to see as much as 1/8 in overal drift through a print run. If the misalignment is fairly uniform you could consider printing to PDF (windows) or postscript and distilling (mac), then place the PDF into a new file and shift every other page to compensate.

  • InDesign CS6 doesn't load. It freezes on "Setting up Service Registry."

    How can I fix this?

    I solved the problem with following steps:
    1. Setup another user account (must be administrative) - let say "test"
    2. Login to the new account
    3. Start inDesign (in my case it started)
    4. Close inDesign
    5. Logout
    6. Login to your user account
    7. Copy preference files from "Documents and Settings\test\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign" to "Documents and Settings\your account\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign"
    8. Start inDesign

  • InDesign CS6 from CS3 plug-in issue?

    Our InDesign CS3 files have the SBIndexPro plug-in that was required to generate an accurate index in InDesign CS3, which InDesign CS6 doesn't recognize because it's a third-party plug-in (and CS6 doesn't have it or require it). So if we open CS3 files in CS6, we get an error message that the SBIndexPro plugin is missing and book functions (exporting book to PDF, packaging the book, updating page numbering, generating TOC, generating an index) are all disabled because of it.
    The work-around we've found from forums online is to open the files in InDesign CS3, export each file to an INX (InDesign Interchange) file, open the files in CS6 and fix elements in the master pages (running headers shifted and have to be moved back into place), relink any missing images, save as a CS6 InDesign file.
    Is there any simpler way we can get our files updated from InDesign CS3 to CS6 without this plug-in tripping us up? We can see how to disable the plug-in in InDesign CS3 but the files still say they're missing the plug-in when opened in InDesign CS6.
    A prompt response and any help is appreciated!

    You could open it in CS6 and export it to IDML but besides that, you've
    covered the only two ways I know.

  • Trouble ending a thread in InDesign CS6?

    I am having trouble ending a thread in a long document with separate sections. Using InDesign CS6 on Mac running OSX 10.6.8.  I checked Online Help and it says to double click either the In or Out box. This doesn't work, just loads the Select tool with text. I tried holding down Command, Option, and shift alternately and in combination while doing it, didn't alter the result. Any advice please?

    fijiboy67 wrote:
    No, sorry, clicking the outbox is exactly what I have been doing, but it just loads the select tool with text.
    Yes.
    If I then click in the same box it merely superimposes text on that page.
    No. You must click INSIDE the same FRAME (don't try to double-click or click in the outport again). This will break the link to the following frames and leave your last frame overset if there was text in those following frames.
    If I just stop linking and start afresh on a new page, it shows up as an error on the Pre-flight panel.
    What error?
    If you want to break apart a story into several different stories you need to cut the overset text from the first story and paste it into a new frame (or the still linked-to-one-another frames that you unlinked from the story in the earlier step.
    You can use the DivideStory.jsx script to automate the process:
    //DESCRIPTION: Splits story at the selected text frame.
    // The selected frame becomes the first of the new story.
    // Note that the behavior when an overset last frame is selected
    // is different from that of the break-out text frame script.
    // This script moves the overset text to the second story while
    // breaking out the last frame leaves the overset text attached to the first story.
    if ((app.documents.length != 0) && (app.selection.length != 0)) {
         var myFrame = app.selection[0];
         if (myFrame.constructor.name != "TextFrame") {
              errorExit('Please select a text frame');
         var myStory = myFrame.parentStory;
         var mySplit = myFrame.textFrameIndex;
         var myTot = myStory.textFrames.length;
         // Because of the possibility of tables, we must always work from the back
         var myStart = myTot - 1;
         var myEnd = mySplit;
         // Nothing to do if user has selected first frame.
         if (myEnd != 0) {
              if (myStart > myEnd) {

                   myStart--;
                   for (var i = myStart; i> myEnd; i--) {
                        var myNewFrame = splitMe(myStory.textFrames[i]);
                        myPrevFrame.previousTextFrame = myNewFrame;
                        myPrevFrame = myNewFrame;
              // Now we deal with the last frame
              myFrame = myStory.textFrames[myEnd]
              try {
                   myIndex = myFrame.characters[0].index;
                   stEnd = myStory.length - 1;

              myFrame.remove();

              //Finally, if, and only if, the split is mid-table, myStory is now overset

         myFrame.remove();
         return myDupeFrame;
    function errorExit(message) {

    I believe this was written by Dave Saunders. I have it in a "Version 4.0 Scripts" subfolder in my Scripts Panel folder because it is very old and may not run correctly without being in such a subfolder. The subfolder name is case-sensitive, but should not include the quotes.

  • Fonts aren't being acknowledged in Indesign CS6 on a PC

    I down loaded Helvetica Std Full Family Fonts that I purchased from Adobe onto my PC but Indesign CS6 doesn't acknowledge it.  Any suggestions?

    Look for files called AdobeFnt*.lst (where the * is a two digit number) and trash those. There are probably hidden. These files will be regenerated the next time you restart any program.

  • Preflight makes Indesign CS6 run slow?

    Hi
    I have problems with my indesign CS6. It takes a lot of time until files "let" me start working on them - Around 1 minute and more.
    No matter the size of the file.
    I've noticed that during all the time I'm waiting for a file to let me work on him; the Preflight is running. To check that, I've disabled preflight and it seems to help, but not all the time. there are still "hang" (The beachball clock is running) from time to time, especially if I'm going to another application and getting back to indesign.
    I've also removed all plugins in the plug-n manager in my Font Explorer Pro 3.5.2 but that didn't solve anything.

    No, not exactly.
    While you work on them, the ID files are in memory (RAM) and it doesn't really matter where they are saved except during read or write operations (save, open, checking links). But ID can only address a bit less than 4 gb of RAM, so at some point a portion of what's in memeory must be written to temporary storage on a disk someplace -- the scratch disk -- where it can be swapped in and out of active RAM when needed. In Photoshop and Illustrator you can designate any drive, even more than one drive, to use for scratch space, but not in ID.
    As I said, in Windows it uses the temp folder in your user profile, which by default is on the drive where you installed the OS (but can be moved with some work). On Mac I don't know for sure, but I presume ID is using the user library, which I also presume is on the drive with the OS by default. It looks to me like this is know as the Home Folder, but I'm not a Mac expert. I did find a lot of potential information though, but googling "move user library mac" without quotes.
    If you can move your home off the hard drive you might see a difference, but I won't swear to it, and I'd defintiel advise doing a full backup so you can undo any changes you make in case of bad results.

  • Can't run the indicPreferences.js in InDesign CS6 and hyphenation issues with Malayalam

    I am not able to run the indicPreferences.js in InDesign CS6 in Mac OS X 10.10.2.
    But all the apple script is working fine, Also there is a red cross mark is seen next to the script icon (image attached)
    I am trying to use Malayalm Unicode fonts with InDesign and it is giving me lot of hyphenation issues, How can I make the text flow with proper spacing in between characters? is this normal when I use justify all?
    Suggest me a quick fix please.

    Which hyphenation dictionary are you using? I have found that in many languages, there is enough divergence in spelling that some words simply cannot be hyphenated, because the hyphenation dictionary expects one spelling and Every Single Speaker of X Language On The Planet expects another.
    Also, sometimes InDesign has a hard time recognizing a term typed with combining marks as the same word with precomposed characters.
    Lastly: Have you used the settings in the Hyphenation pane to try to force different breaks? I think that the default settings are not appropriate for Malayalam, and I would myself only hyphenate long words. So the default settings are, I think, to hyphenate no fewer than two letters away from a word boundary, in any word with more than five letters. I'd bump that up to words of no fewer than, perhaps, seven to nine letters? And increase the letters-from-word-boundary to 3 or 4. That way only long words get hyphenated.
