InDesign CS6 ePub. TOC is not linked

Hello
using InDesign CS6 8.0.2
created the TOC and inserted at the begin of the book
exporting as ePub 2.0.1 the inserted TOC is not linked to the page/chapter so I can't click on it to navigate the ebook.
What can I check?

Hi,
Table of Contents if placed in InDesign is treated like any other story and is exported just like another text frame. This behavior is improved in InDesign CC and the TOC links are now intact in exported EPUB. All that is required is to check the option "Make text anchor in source paragraph" in Table of Contents dialog (this option was added in CC version) while creating TOC.
If you are looking for creating navigational TOC (one which is not placed in ID and is available in EPUB) in InDesign CS6, it can be created by selecting the TOC style from the TOC style dropdown available in EPUB Export Options dialog.
Please let me know if there are queries. I would be glad to assist you!
Regards,
Pooja

  • Indesign CS6 epub export bug

I am using Indesign CS6 to export a book to epub. Having problems with automatic numbers and bullets as well as spacing issues; however, I've made some adjustments and am getting a pretty decent epub. Here's the issue: When I convert my epub to Mobi using Calibre, I get double bullets and double numbers in my lists. I used this same process to create a Mobi file a few months ago in Indesign 5.5 with no problem. So I took one of my CS6 files, exported it to IDML, opened it in CS5.5 and exported to ePub. I then took that epub and converted it to Mobi using Calibre. No double bullets or numbers. So the issue is coming from Indesign CS6.
Anyone else had this issue. Any other ideas on how to get a clean Mobi file from CS6?

    Thanks a million.

    lotuscott,
You should get the 8.0.1 update for InDesign CS6. It fixes several EPUB bugs including the "space before" problem and the "epub-ruby" (which is I believed intended for Japanese language.

  • Generated PDF file...TOC Items Not Linked

Been racking my brain all day trying to figure out how the heck I created a PDF document TOC with hot links to the document pages from FM 9...and now all of a sudden when I save as a PDF from FM 9 my PDF document TOC is not linked to the document.  Help in FM 9 is not very helpful.  I'm using FM 9, Structured.  Help please.
    Thank you,
    Eric G.

Hi Art, thank you for responding so fast.  My TOC is being generated by an external source (ATA iSpec2200 app), so I don't have a "TOC" FM file to view properties on.   At one time I was saving docs to PDF and having the TOC links active.  Do you think the problem lies in my external TOC generator?

  • My TOC in the epub document does not link to the chapters

    Hello!
I created a document in pages that I am exporting as an ePub. When creating the TOC, I have ticked "make page numbers links". However, when I open the epub file, the TOC that appears in the document 1) does not show page numbers; 2) does not link to the chapters (or anywhere else).
What is it that I'm doing wrong? Any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you!

Try a restart of your entire system. Shut down both your modem and your router if they are two separate devices. Then restart each item one at a time with about three minutes between each device.
Also reset the iPad by pressing and holding the Start and Home keys together, ignoring there'd slider until the Apple logo appears.

  • InDesign CS6 ePub Export : Tables with header and footer in HTML

    Hey there,
does anyone know, whether InDesign CS6 also exports Table Headers and footers correctly into the XHTML-File of the ePub.
What I mean, is whether the elements <thead> and <tfoot> are created?
Or is it only possible to steer this via the CSS-Classnames which can be given in the tableformats?
Generally I think it would be better if the user had the chance to map other exporttags to its elements than just p, em, strong, h1-h6.
it would be useful to also put in other elements by hand.
    Best regrads.

By "also", do you mean the behavior is changed with respect to CS5/CS5.5? In those, thead and tfoot are created correctly. (Although, quite disconcerting, in the order "thead / tfoot / tbody". ePub renderers based on Webkit display them correctly nevertheless, but others do not. An extremely annoying free interpretation of the W3C rules.)

  • How do I import an index into Indesign for epub and keep the links live?

What is the best way to import a subject index (the indexer uses skyindex, and has an option to output index links to indesign para numbers), but he currently provides a word file for import into Indesign 5.5 with dead page numbers. We need to retain that for print publishing, but change the index numbers for epub, to links in both directions. Whats the best way to tackle this? I hope someone out there has done this!

Page numbers do not exist in epub.
    Have a read through this:

  • InDesign CS6 EPub export: Possible to avoid object styles?

After upgrading to CS6 I've been having issues with the new EPub export command. After expanding the EPUB file that was created I noticed all of the achored objects had been given their own, unique DIV classes in the default CSS file (ie the one now named after the INDD file) that included a bunch of formatting that I didn't want carried over from the print layout.
I gather this is being called a new 'feature', but there doesn't seem to be a way to disable it. I thought the whole point of being able to use your own CSS file was to make a clean break from the styles applied in the print layout? I tried deleting the entire default CSS file and recompressing the EPUB and this actually seems to work (although I'm not sure why it does, since I would have thought that the unique class names wouldn't match with any defined in my basic CSS file?), although I'd prefer to avoid having to break the files open in the first place.
    Or am I missing something?
    Thanks!

Ron Bilodeau who creates EPUB files for O'Reilly wrote a piece about EPUB from CS6 in the newest issue of InDesign Magazine. Perhaps what he says will be useful to you:
"In the Advanced tab of the EPUB Export Options dialog box there is now an option
to include multiple CSS stylesheets, in addition to the CSS that InDesign generates (Figure 3).
"Initially, I was annoyed by this change, because Adobe removed the option to ignore the InDesign-generated CSS and only use a custom external CSS. I write my own custom EPUB CSS and therefore wanted to use that instead of what InDesign generates. But it didn’t take me long to realize that this new solution is pretty elegant. By default, any custom stylesheet attributes will override matching elements from the InDesign-generated CSS. This means that you have ultimate control over what is displayed. If you’re happy with how some of the InDesign-generated CSS works in your EPUB file, then simply leave those elements alone and let them do their job. For other elements that you’re not happy with, you can simply override them with your custom CSS. If you prefer to not write your own EPUB CSS, simply export your EPUB file without choosing any additional CSS file(s) and let InDesign do all the work."

  • InDesign CS6 Text Wrap increments not accurate.

My work jumped from CS4 to CS6 so I don't know if CS5 had the same issue. Anyway. Text wrap (around bounding box) seem to now be very limited. For example, If I have, say a .25 text wrap on the bottom of a object, but I need to change it slightly to .245 the text does not move. The box shows the change, but the text below just doesn't follow suit. CS4 I was able to make tiny incremental changes to the wrap, but it is not working for me now in CS6. Any ideas, answers?

  • InDesign CC ePub Fixed Layout not showing up as an Export option

I am trying to export an ePub Fixed Layout, but when I go to Export, I only have the ePub option - No Fixed Layout. I have updated to the latest version on Cloud and have restarted my computer. Any solutions?

What operating system are you running? If you're running Mac OS X 10.6, you will not be able to download the latest version which is InDesign CC 2014. That is required for ePub Fixed Layout.

  • Webhelp RH8: TOC book not linking to topic

    Hi (again),
I seem to have another little issue.
In generating our helpsystem, we would like to have books that display general information when clicked and also display the subsequent topics. That all works fine, I link a topic to the TOC book and it displays the contents of the selected page.
However, when I only have a book (no topics), linking a topic does not work. In the output it displays as a page. Is there a way I can have a book linked to a topic while there are no other topics in that book?

Thanks RoboColum(n) for your pointer. Due to time limitations I could only look at it briefly and give it one try. Redirecting didn't work in this instance. I have a few redirect pages which work fine but so far I haven't managed to get a book to display when there is only one page in that book. For now I have avoided the problem by having an empty page when the book is clicked. Not pretty and I will be looking at this again when there is more time.

  • How do I create a Table of Contents in InDesign CS6 for print that easily converts to epub?

How do I create a Table of Contents in InDesign CS6 for a print book that easily converts to epub?
Can anyone point me to a link for a step-by-step (not a video) on setting up all the elements of a print book properly (pages, table of contents and index) so they will convert and reflow perfectly from print to epub in InDesign CS6. This is not about building an ebook from ground up, but taking 50 backlisted print books (converted from old versions of Quark to InDesign) that now need to be converted to epub formats.
OR could someone point me to the link in the Adobe InDesign CS6 support that explains how to create a Table of Contents for a print book (5.5" x 8.5", 288 pages), one that will convert when the file is converted to ePub (for MAC OSX)?
Just downloaded the 706 page inDesign CS6 reference manual from Adobe <http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/indesign_reference.pdf>  but there's not even a search feature on the pdf file.
Up until this week, we have only done print books, creating the TOC the old fashioned way, as a fixed page, comprised of two columns: page numbers and chapters/subject. The files I have created are taken by our printer and printed beautifully.
However, when I convert the same book to epub in CS6, the character and paragraph styles converted beautifully - but everything else is all over the place! The table of contents is on different pages, the columns split apart. That goes for the page contents as well - everything is all over the place. when it's converted to a pdf -- total perfection. Never any problems converting with perfection to pdf format and reading those on the various readers.
(Thank you so much in advance for any help).

<http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/indesign_reference.pdf> Adobe Digital Reader does have a search feature for reading pdfs. Found the TOC instructions on page 176 of 706 pages.
