InDesign CS6 Issues!

Ever since we got CS6 here at work, we've had nothing but issues. This is not an upgrade, it is a clean install on a brand new iMac 10.8.5.
Today starts a new set of issues. Indesign crashes about 2 or 3 times just for the fun of it, then this afternoon when I was trying to export a PDF, I noticed that there was text missing on my screen. The text boxes were there but no text was visible. I tried to click inside the text box and select it - nothing! I thought that maybe it's just a view thing so I exported the PDF anyway and the text was missing in it also - Gone! I went back into the ID document, selected the text box, opened it up, closed it up - nothing. Then all of the sudded when I zoomed in or out just one click (happened both directions), like magic the text appeared. Now, I can see the text, but I can't select or edit the text. One of my text boxes I had to just redo. This is a major pain seeing how I have just spent the last 9 hours working on a 36 x 11 gatefold product brochure and now I can't edit but just some of the text. I have checked and no layers are locked and there is nothing on any master pages...... I don't want to have to go back and retype all this data... It's not all of the text, just random text boxes. One of the boxes, the text is just gone.... There is nothing there.
I have deleted the Version 8.0 folders from my cahses folder and from my prefrences folder but to no avail.
Has anyone else been experiencing these kinds of issues???

The only font manager I have is Font Book and I run updates about every 2 or 3 days so all my software is up to date. Also, it isn't like it's been an on going issue, this just started on this one job. I never had these kinds of problems until now. I have a G5 sitting here that has CS4 on it and it never gave a minutes problems.
Any other ideas???? What is scary is to think that this may be have been a 1.5 million dollar job and to think that ID6 is having these kinds of issues.....

  • InDesign CS6 issue on PDF export - only close active

    Hi,
I have a situation with my script (or something else). The line of the code where error occurs is this:
myApplication.ActiveDocument.Export("Adobe PDF", myPDFFileName, False, myApplication.PDFExportPresets.Item("[Smallest File Size]"))
Nothing special... everyday for about 300 times (or exports) - everything went ok, but 1-2 times I get an error on exporting. The actual place when InDesign stops is shown in screenshots:
    Few things to mention here:
    1. sometimes InDesign not responding after this
    2. sometimes it is alive but only Close is active, save, save as, save a copy are gray
    3. everything can be restored from recovery
    4. at that very point when exporting pdf, possible is that an inserted image from this indd file could be opened in photoshop somewhere else on the network
    5. everything is on the network, indd, links, images, incopy stories
My guess is that InDesign couldn't read or get the image at this moment from the network but then again, the guys are telling me that no error is logged on router, switch, network etc...
Any medicine? Maybe how to avoid this?
    Tnx. Regards,
    Marko

    Tnx Jarek.
    I'll give it a try.
One more thing to mention. Once when this happened, the links palette was empty beside many images on page and incopy stories ?!?!
Can you recall any kind of script that could be run from InDesign at the time when this happen again? Maybe anything that could alert some error or message?
    Regards,
    Marko

  • Exporting to a .swf or .fla from InDesign CS6 - issues with timeline when opened in Flash.

    Hello,
Looking for help with exporting files for Flash. I have tried both .swf and fla exports from InDesign for the animations I have created. The .swf file will play fine in Flash player but I am having no luck using the .swf or .fla file in Flash. The .fla file will open in Flash but there is no time-line. I can import the .swf file into Flash, but again there is no timeline - all the graphics and elements are visible in the library.
    - Is there a particular way the file(s) have to be exported from InDesign in order for them to appear with a time line in Flash?
    - Are there particular do's and dont's when it comes to creating InDesign files that are going to be used as Flash animation?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Jamie

The page turning animations in an exported swf are accomplished via ActionScript—they are not timeline based tween animations. You might be able to decompile the swf and get to the code, but I've never tried it. Google SWF decompiler.
When you export to fla the animation ActionScript code is not included, so you lose the page turn animations. Each spread is saved as a MovieClip and the clips appear on sequential keyframes of the root timeline. With an fla it's up to you to write any animation code.

  • InDesign CS6 issue with type jumping around...

I am pretty proficient with InDesign. I have a newsletter filled with copy. Some of the type is jumping around as though there is a runaround on an something behind it, but there is not. I noticed that if I change the paragraph style from "Basic Paragraph" to "No Paragraph Style" the problem of jumping text goes away, but I have to reformat all of my copy. I built this file myself but it gets passed around to different art directors all the time. I never set up any paragraph styles. Every time I fix it, someone else complains that the text won't stay where they put it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a free moment to finally put an end to this ongoing problem! Thanks!

@Brooklynmc – some screenshots showing the problem would really help.
Before doing these just make sure that you switched off Overprint Preview and switched ON "Show Baseline Grid", "Show Hidden Text" together with "Show Edges"… "Show Guides" would help as well.

  • Having major issues with InDesign CS6

Having major issues with InDesign CS6. Not only is it crashing, but it is corrupting the existing file.  Then when I relaunch, it is not allowing me to open the file again.
In another instance, yesterday I opened an file created 3 months ago and it allowed me to make changes, however I could not save them to the existing file, or not even to a new name.
I had to copy each layer on each page to create a new document.  NOT GOOD!!!

  • Indesign CS6 - 8.0 on iMac 10.9.1, a few issues that may be connected, Shutting down & PDF Issues

Indesign CS6 - 8.0 on iMac 10.9.1, I have a few issues that may be connected:
    1. My computer shuts down goes to a black screen then restarts on its own.
    2. My InDesign will crash when I am working and there doesn't seem to be a pattern it just happens sometimes.
    3. I have an InDesign file that all of a sudden now takes 30-40mins to PDF 50 pages, I think there may be an issue with fonts but I am not sure, none of the other files take this long.

Thank you so much for responding Bob, I tried to update but when I tired I get a message "Contact Administrator if you wish to apply updates on your machine, Updates have been suppressed by the administrator...". I actually have admin rights and I called in my IT guy, he could not get it to update. The Application Manager says I have all current updates. Am I suppoes to update using "AdobePatchInstaller"? Is there a manual way?

Yes, I would certainly get the latest update. That we often solve issues like these, for this is not normal. Some further tips would be quite InDesign, then to trash your InDesign preferences and then re-start InDesign (it will rebuild them again). Some further areas to look into would be:
    * Corrupt Font(s) (or corrupt font caches - see below)
    * Corrupt Image(s)
    * Power Failures (power surges)
    * Placing images via drag-and-drop from an Internet page
    * Working on an InDesign file over a network or on a remote server
If all else fails, we as Markzware (I work for them) also offer a Service to fix corrupt InDesign documents. See:

    Hopefully this helps you.

  • Help Viewer is an issue with InDesign CS6

Would anyone happen to know if the Help Viewer is an issue with InDesign CS6? Even with a manual install the Help feature launches without issues the first time and won’t launch after the second time. This is the message we are receiving on Windows 7:
“Help viewer is not installed check your internet connection and reinstall InDesign”

Can you try the option mentioned in 2nd para of the reply, if you are connected to internet?
You can try changing the preference "General Settings" > "Display Local Help content only" to "No" so that application launches the online help content.
    -Anup.
YES! It does help.Thank you very much. I changed the setting yesterday but side tracked before I see the online content works. So in general scope, yes it takes me to the online help center, which gives me options for more "community" answers. So yes, thank you for making me look further.
However, I really was a fan of the local help that looked like and felt like the user manuals produced by Adobe, not just blogs, and more message boards. So I am still partially dismayed that I take the time to download and update the local help files, but can't use them. And wish Adobe would just fix the problem, so I can have immediate access to user manuals without having to surf all over for answers. Perhaps this is a novice thought, but I liked reading it in manual formats provided by the amnufacture of the software.
Thanks again though for the help and it will just have to get used to this method. UNLESS you can tell me good news of something else I am missing?

  • Can't run the indicPreferences.js in InDesign CS6 and hyphenation issues with Malayalam

I am not able to run the indicPreferences.js in InDesign CS6 in Mac OS X 10.10.2.
But all the apple script is working fine, Also there is a red cross mark is seen next to the script icon (image attached)
I am trying to use Malayalm Unicode fonts with InDesign and it is giving me lot of hyphenation issues, How can I make the text flow with proper spacing in between characters? is this normal when I use justify all?
Suggest me a quick fix please.

Which hyphenation dictionary are you using? I have found that in many languages, there is enough divergence in spelling that some words simply cannot be hyphenated, because the hyphenation dictionary expects one spelling and Every Single Speaker of X Language On The Planet expects another.
Also, sometimes InDesign has a hard time recognizing a term typed with combining marks as the same word with precomposed characters.
Lastly: Have you used the settings in the Hyphenation pane to try to force different breaks? I think that the default settings are not appropriate for Malayalam, and I would myself only hyphenate long words. So the default settings are, I think, to hyphenate no fewer than two letters away from a word boundary, in any word with more than five letters. I'd bump that up to words of no fewer than, perhaps, seven to nine letters? And increase the letters-from-word-boundary to 3 or 4. That way only long words get hyphenated.

  • InDesign CS6 - Exporting Issues, PDF being sent to Photshop and saving as a psd rather than the requested pdf? Please help!

    Hi
I have an issue in InDesign CS6. It has been happening the last couple of days now.
When i export to pdf. regardless of quality instead of being saved as a pdf it is being sent to Photoshop which then saves the file as a psd...
I have updated InDesign to the latest CS6 update which helped the issue yesterday but today the same problem is back. Help please what could be the problem and how do I fix it?
    Any advice is very appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sam

ExportPDF is a subscription service for exporting PDF files into Word and Excel, from Adobe Reader. I suspect you need the InDesign forum, as InDesign is the product here.

  • Indesign CS6 Printing Issues

Having looked at the forums and found Adobe support less than helpful I am hopping that the comunite will be able to help me out on these frustrating issues.
We are having a number of issues while trying to print from InDesign CS6 to our OKI C830 printer
    Our setup:
    OS: Windows 8 64bit
    InDesign CS6 Version: 8.0.1
    Printer drivers: PS: 1.2.0.0 & PLC: 1.0.7.0/1.1.7
    Printer: Oki C830 /256mb RAM / V1.16
    Issues while printing from InDesign:
Printing multiple pages causes an error - undefined offending command stack error
After printing the first page successfully we get the error above.
I implemented the fix outlined in the following link: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2878922#2878922Changed the print option from Binary to ASCII – this helped in so much that we could then print one or two pages as needed.
Booklet printing – When trying to print a booklet it seems that the spread is not understood by the printer Try to print a booklet from ID 6 the pages are printed at random onto a single A4/3 sheet of paper.
As a work around we are fourced to create the document in ID CS6 and then expoort it to ID CS4 for printing.
Also as a side note I have tried printing to our old HP printers and they work fine. Also this issue was present on Windows 7x32 as well.
Thanks in advance for any help provided.
    Cheers,
    Matthew

The issues you are having can be caused by driver conflicts on the Operating system. If windows * installed the drivers automatically, it may be the wrong drivers. If they were installed from the disc, they may be outdated for Windows 8.
    Please take the following steps.
    1. If printer is connected by usb, disconnect the usb cable from the computer. If printer is connected on network, turn printer off.
    2. Click start then click "Devices and Printers".
    3. Right click on printer icon and click "Remove Device"
    4. After icon is gone, single left click on Microsoft Document writer and then click Print server Properties at top of page.
    5. Click on the drivers tab at the top of that window. Select anything that says "Oki" and select remove. Then select remove driver and driver package.
The driver package may not remove but it's ok as long as the driver is successfully removed.
    6. Go to okidata.com and click on "Support" at top of page. In the grey area, select download a driver.
    7. Next to select technology, click the dropdown window and select multifunctional product.
    8. Another dropdown window will appear. Select the MC860MFP.
    9. You will see three boxes. The center one will be titled "Find a Driver". Select Windows 7 X64 edition.
    10. Select English MC860nMFP Series 64 Bit PS Driver for Windows (This will be the fifth option down.)
    11. In the Driver Download Info box to the right, click the blu underlined file titled MC860Win7x64PS_ENU130.exe
    12. Follow the installation instructions.

  • Adobe Indesign CS6 Fonts issue

    Dear Support,
We have performed a re-installation of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
We also had to re-install Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010 as well as Adobe Indesign CS6 and Photoshop CS6.
We have installed all Windows Updates and all Adobe updates.
The problem we are experiencing is that Arial Narrow is detected by Indesign as a seperate font and not a family font.
This in turn is causing issues as we cannot select Arial Narrow Bold, Arial Narrow Bold Italic and Arial Narrow Italic.
The version of the font is 2.37.
I have read on previous posts that there are issues with font version 2.35 which is installed with Microsoft Office 2007 and there is a hotfix on Microsoft's website.
We cannot use this as stated above we use Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010.
Please inform if there is a hotfix to run from Adobe's Website or from Microsoft to resolve the above issue.
    All assistance is much appreciated.
    Kindest Regards.

    Moving to Indesign forum.

  • Indesign CS6 display issues on macbook retina

    Hi
Can anybody help? I have recently got indesign cs6 for my macbook pro retina and to my horror discovered it is not capable of displaying properly on the reitna. I also understand there is no quick fix for this, in fact it wont be fixed. So the display is pixilated, does anybody know whether or not plugging the mac into a non retina display monitor will overcome this issue or is it the way the retina reads the software? Basically will it still look pixilated on a monitor? Please help me

that's why i am asking, i'm not tech savvy (cleary) but i wondered if it was the screen on the mac or the way the mac manages the software. It sounds like a silly question (to you) but i thought a seperate monitor that isnt HiRes may display it better or does a monitor just replicate the screen of the mac....see this is how little i know!

  • Yosemite & NEW install of InDesign CS6 - any issues?

I have Yosemite installed on my 2010 MacBook Pro. My boss wants me to purchase InDesign CS6 as a new installation. (I have not ever had any version of InDesign installed on my Mac.) I would prefer InDesign CC, but he won't go for it.
I have seen a few issues where people who have already installed versions of InDesign CS6 have problems with it after installing Yosemite.
Since mine would be a NEW installation of InDesign CS6 on a Mac running Yosemite, I wonder if there are any known issues.
I don't want to purchase the software and then run into problems.
(I am not having any problems with already installed versions of Photoshop CS6 and Dreamweaver CS6 and Yosemite.)

Nonsense, you DON'T loose access to your files, you can't edit them without having the appropriate version, but all output like PDF, JPG, etc. is accessible. No workaround is needed as you suggest.
With your argumentation you will loose your files also, when you have to update your OS as CS6 will not run forever. Only CS6 versions.
Have a look into this discussion: Re: Just subscribed to InDesign CSS - problem: how can I open old Pagemaker 5 and 6 Files? when it comes to "eternal life" of CS6.
Adobe is not allone with its subscription model. MS introduced several Years ago MS Office365 which will sooner or later the only method to get MS Office (as an official MS Instructor told in a public forum not long ago in Germany). The problem is, that today's OS are changing very fast and it is—contrary to 10 or 12 Years ago—it becomes more and more impossible to make software so, that it will be compatible more than 4 Years, and this period is decreasing rapidly.
Another thing is, both, Adobe and Microsoft make it more easier to change OS without additional cost. In former times you was sticked with the OS you had. Mobile OS applications are only accessible with subscriptions. Adobe has a lot of them and some important companions to InDesign will come, or with MS Office: you can install their software only with Office365 and not with the permanent versions. File mobility becomes more and more important.

  • Opacity issue--InDesign CS6

Hello, I have InDesign CS6, and I have an issue with the opacity... When trying to apply opacity to a simple shape, the placed image behind it also shows the opacity I'm applying to the shape, as if they are linked or grouped... Why is this happening? Never happened before in the previous versions I've used. I appreciate if anyone can give me a light on this issue. Thanks! ~Gaby

    Hello Peter,
Thanks a lot for your help.
I have solved the issue; the problem was that I was using a grayscale image instead of cmyk. For some reason when I was applying the opacity to the cmyk form, it was also doing it in the image. So I went back to the image and converted it to cmyk. I have used InDesign for years and this is the first time this happens to me. I don't know if it is a new feature in CS6 or I just didn't notice before.
