Indesign CS6 looks unsharp, crappy and ugly on retina display

Indesgin CS6 is the only application in CS6 Design suite that doesn't support HiDpi (RETINA) displays correctly.
For Acorbat X I had to purchase Acrobat XI to get a Adobe premium (and expensive) product on par with the free PDF Reader or OSX Preview display qualities.
For Indesgin CS6 I don't see such an option, since the CC subscription is no option for me (I don't need Indesign on a regular basis and refuse to pay a monthly fee if I need it for a few days... therefore I am much better off with the purchase model... especially for corporate tax laws in Germany).
I hereby request an update for Indesign CS6 to support Retina. If this is not possible, I have to look for other options in my future purchases.
Thanks a lot!

Thanks for replying.
No I did not come just to rant. I came for a solution on how unexpectedly ugly (and here andthere unreadable, as in images) ID CS6 looked on my retina MBP.
And no, I do not feel better. I feel screwed. I have invested a large amount of time and effort in getting the book done in ID (I even thanked Peter Spier in my first edition for his help on this forum to solve a few serious issues I had).
And now I find out that if I want to continue with ID, I need to upgrade to a construct where I need to perpetually pay a fee or lose access to my own work. I feel Adobe is trying to get me ultimately locked in, and I do not like it. I like ID. I like how I could create a nice (some say beautiful) book. I hate having to say goodbye, but a perpetual lock in of this kind is a too high a price to pay.
And yes, as it is now, I can take a one-month subscription to get access. But I have to pay that every time this occurs (think of small editorial changes that happen once in a while). And no guarantuees that this kind of short time or affordable pricing stays. Yes, it can all turn out well. But I am completely at the mercy of Adobe and that gives a pretty unfree feel to it all. It is a type of blackmail: pay or you won't have access to your own stuff anymore.
This is not like my TV subscription (I can change provider without a hassle). This is like using a camera to record my family movies only to find out that the camera was cheap because I have to keep paying every time I want to access my own work for a future price that is uncertain. I will do it if I have to (if there is no reasonable alternative). And if I cannot find a reasonable alternative, that suggests from my perspective that Adobe is wielding monopoly power here. And I do not like that either.
For many the price may be reasonable and I can understand many of the advantages. But the fact that I become completely dependent on whatever Adobe decides in the future is for me an unacceptable risk. Many people ignore risks. If this risk does not turn into reality they will be vindicated. If it does, they are screwed too.
It would be OK if the subscription price was for regular updates and the version you have just keeps working. And if you do not subscribe, you need to pay the full amount if you need to update. But now it is, pay or be locked out.
BTW, subscribing to just ID costs >$30/month over here.

    Hello,
Flash Builder interface looks blurry on MacBook Pro with Retina displays.

Expand the image to the actual size, and notice that Flash Builder interface looks blurry.
    Please fix this issue.

I was having the same issue - couldn't believe my eyes on how horrible and fuzzy Flash Builder looked on my new Macbook Pro w Retina.  Was suffering through it for the past week and just found this work around that someone figured out for Eclipse that also works on Flash Builder (guess b/c it's built on Eclipse).  Here's the link to the bug report that shows the work around (Thanks to Brad Hudgeons):
    https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=382972
here's a cut and paste from the bug report in case the above url gets removed:
Here's the workaround:  Do "Show package contents" on the Eclipse.app.  Edit Contents/Info.plist.  Just above  </dict> </plist>  Place this:  <key>NSHighResolutionCapable</key> <true/>
Instead of Eclipse, show package contents on Adobe Flash Builder 4.6.app.   After you edit the Info.plist file, go back up to the Adobe Flash Builder 4.6.app and duplicate it.  It will create a Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 copy.app.  Delete your original Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 and rename the Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 copy.app to Adobe Flash Builder 4.6.app.  Then launch Flash Builder - you should see text that is much clearer.  The graphics on the ui are still blurry but at least the text should be crisp.

  • Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.13 documents and InDesign CS6 looks very blurry on retina screen

I received an upgrade to my Adobe creative suite 5.5 to CS6.
On my macbook pro retina late 2013 15 inch screen, I currently have Adobe CS6 Design Premium, among these apps, I got Adobe acrobat pro, and recently updated my Acrobat Pro to 10.1.13. However, documents in this app have very blurry text.
I also have adobe InDesingn CS6 version 8.0, and text looks blurry on this as well.
are there any updates to these apps so they look ok on my retina screen? or does CS6 not support retina?

    Hi missartist,
Could you please try this out:
Open Acrobat and go to "Edit -> Preferences -> Page Display"
Under Smooth Text label, please select 'For Laptop/LCD screens' and click ok.
Now, check if the text still looks blurry.
    Let me know.

  • Photoshop CS6 - Pasting Smart Objects from InDesign CS6 look awful

Since upgrading from CS5 I'm having a huge problem using Smart Objects.
    What:
Smart Objects pasted from InDesign into Photoshop are pixelated and corny beyond belief. Originating material placed in InDesign is hi-res (e.g. 600ppi) but when pasted in PS it looks crappy.
    How:
Selecting an image in InDesign and pasting it in PS in a 72ppi file.
Typically I need to copy elements from previous art in ID and re-compose and use for web.
    Why:
Can't seem to fix it. Have tried with Anti-Aliasing both on and off to no avail. None of the Image Interpolation settings affect this either.
Only solution is to scale the placed Smart Object to something like 400% where it suddenly looks nice again, rasterize and then scale it back down.
    Theory:
Smart Object scaling is flawed in PS CS6.
Note: All scaled images in InDesign already look gritty and awful. Even with Display Performance: High Quality set (using default settings). Seems to me like CS6 scaling is b a d.
    Anyone else seeing this?
    Thanks
Image 1: Smart Object rasterized at same size as placed. (ouch. awful.)
Image 2: Smart Object Scaled to 400%, rasterized and then scaled back to original size (yum yum, like it used to be without up-rasterize-down-scaling)

That does not resolve the anti-aliasing issue in CS6 - it still looks rather bad.
The anti-aliasing sampling method applied to smart vector objects is just extremely bad looking. And it is not merely an issue in Photoshop: exporting artwork from Illustrator at web/screen resolution using the web export is absolutely abysmal looking (not other word applies here, unfortunately).
I explain more about this issue here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/6002543#6002543
The best option is to blow up the artwork, rasterize, and then scale down with bicubic or bicubic automatic, depending. But even then you will not achieve the same quality that can be attained with other tools that, for example, support catmul rom and mitchellnetravali for downsampling.
Anyway, Adobe applications are very weak when it comes to proper downsampling and file size optimization for web and screen graphics. You're better off looking someplace else.

  • InDesign CS6 looks fuzzy with retina display

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro with retina display and installed my CS6 software. Photoshop and Illustrator look fine, but InDesign looks pixelated. The menus and fonts look fuzzy. I can't work like this. I read there is a possibility to uncheck the "open in low resolution" box but haven't been able to actually uncheck it. Can someone help with this?

Unfortunately, you have to subscribe to CC to get retina InDesign & Acrobat.

  • How use my indesign CS6 on both iMac and Macbook Pro

Wish to copy my indesign CS6 from my iMac to my Macbook Pro.  Have downloaded CS6 3.5 gb from Adobe but will not open and does not show in my applications folder.  My idd document is on desktop but is gray and has green letters: exec.  Help!

You cannot copy or migrate a copy of InDesign from one computer to another. Adobe applications install a host of files in various locations which are not properly installed.
You must either use the installer file which you originally received or downloaded. You can also download CS6 again from this location:
    Other downloads
Unfortunately, before you can do that, you'll have to remove the components you copied to your second computer. You can use this Adobe Cleaner tool to do that:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • Indesign cs6 has stopped working and needs to close in windows 8

We have Adobe InDesign CS6 installed on 2 different computers and on both computers it frequently crashes saying "cs6 has stopped working" and closes the application. Restarting it ok for a while and then the same thing happens. We have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail, no other Adobe products are installed.

Try trashing the prefs. See Replace Your Preferences

  • Adobe Installers didn't uninstall InDesign CS6's Plug-Ins and Utilities

After running "Uninstall Adobe InDesign CS6" in Adobe Installers folder, I noticed that "Adobe InDesign CS6" folder still remains (there are 2 folders inside: Plug-Ins and Utilites) in Application folder. Is it okay to move the remaining folders to trash? What would be the best practice for clean removal?

After Uninstalling the Adobe Indesign from Adobe Indesign uninstaller if some of the files and folders are there in your computer then yes you can move them in trash.

    InDesign CS6 8.1.0 Release Notes
    InDesign CC v9.2.2 => CC v9.3.0
InDesign Help | InDesign CC 9.3.0 Release Notes
    InDesign InCopy CS6 => InCopy CS6 v8.1.0
InCopy Help | InCopy CS6 8.1.0 Release Notes
Currently that's all I can find about it…
    Uwe

Interesting that they're still fixing CS6. But are all the CS6 bug-fixes
only for CC subscribers, or only the auto-opening newer file versions
    feature?
And it's strange to me that they're still updating InDesignCC! Anyone
who has CC has a CC-subscription, so they have CC2014.1. So what do we
need an update to CC for?!

  • Photoshop CS6 and Apple's Retina Display

    Hi,
does anyone know if the issues Photoshop cs6 had with the new retina display has been satisfactorily resolved?
    Many thanks
    Noel

John I do not run a Mac or have a retnia disply.   Long before the retina display was made back in the 2000 a display was manufactured and market in 2001 the IBM T200 its was a 22.2" display with a 204DPI resolution displaying 9.2Mpixels 3840x2400 pixels at that time you needed special display adaptors and it was installed as four 1920x1200 displays with the desktop spread across the four displays seamlessly for it was a single LCD panel.   You might call it the retina display before its time.  While it is the best display I ever used it was hard to use.  While images were absolutely beautiful on the display you had problems using applications for their User Interfaces were designed to for displays with a 96Dpi resolution not a 204dpi resolution so fonts displayed 1/4 the size they would display on a 96dpi display.  You could not comfortably read the fine print.  It was sharp and with a magnifying glass you could easily read it.  This is the same problem many years later in 2012 the retina display encountered.  Current Applications User Interfaces were for use on 96Dpi displays not the retina 200+dpi resolution.  To get around this problem at first Apple would scale application windows up in size so each pixel would be displayed with 4 native retina pixel 2x2.   In other words the display became a 100dpi display and could only display 1/4 of what its potentialy could.  As Application user interface are  update for use on higher resolution displays Apple stop scaling these application windows up in size Fonts are readable and image are sharp and 1/4 the size your were use. You can also see 4 time as many of your images pixels when the applications window is not scaled up in size.

  • Look at the diff between my retina display and 27 display!

Is this normal? Brand new 15" retina next to brand new thunderbolt display...

Yes, they are clearly different.  But the Thunderbolt display is NOT a retina display.  I would not expect them to look the same "out of the box."  It's actually the same panel as the older Apple LED Cinema Display.  It's an LED lit (edge lit) IPS LCD panel vs. the Retina panel's back lit design, and I would have to believe the underlying colorspace of the two is not the same.
I assume the TBolt display is connected to your rMBP.  It would appear to be so, and that you are using Extended Desktop mode.  Is that the case?
Are you using the same, or a higher resolution, on the TBolt display compared to your rMBP?  Have you adjusted the brightness on each display so they are comparably illumnated?
That said, I would have no expectation that the TBolt display (or any other external display) would match your rMBP display.  They are not the same technologies.  I have no idea why someone at Applecare would suggest otherwise.
If you truly want them to match as closely as possible you will need to calibrate the displays. There are many calibrators available, at different price & feature levels.

  • Adobe CS5 and Macbook Pro Retina Display

I recently bought a new Macbook Pro Retina Display notebook. Before I got it, I didn't realize what an effect it would have on my existing programs, and had I known, I would have thought twice before switching. I have never had so many problems with a brand new computer. It seems absurd to me that Apple would introduce a product that was not supported by so many important software platforms, Adobe Creative Suite and Acrobat Pro included.
I have Adobe CS5 and was not planning on upgrading to CS6. It is too expensive and I am a poor PhD student with lots of work to finish. Now when I use my CS5 applications, I see the images in very poor quality. The program will not let me change the "Open in Low Resolution" settings as the button is disabled. I do not know how to make it look better or what to do. I cannot work using this low resolution. It hurts my eyes and I cannot see the lines properly to be able to adjust my drawings.
    What can I do?

    Hi Rossco,
    You're right, the program works and the content produced is unaffected. My rationale to get the program work environment to be Retina compatible includes;
Visual clarity. For reading glasses wearers such as myself, the blockyness can be frustrating. But regardless of middle aged disability, it just looks better when a program is Retina compatible.
It's a major component of my work environment, so making the most of the computer's assets is important to me.
It (OK, this is the emotional statement Rossco ;-)) frustrates me that an Educational program fails to take advantage of a computer type very commonly used in Ed departments. And Retina is not new, nor a passing fad.
Adobe do commit to Retina compatibility, evidenced by Acrobat updated recently. Captivate please!!??
    Best regards
    Nick

  • Captivate and Macbook Pro Retina display support. When?

Hi there. Having just purchased a new MBP with retina display I was disappointed to find that Captivate 7 appeared not to support the display settings. It looks blocky and ill-defined compared to all the other programs, Powerpoint included. My web-search suggests that Captivate doesn't support the Retina display. Is this the case, and if so, when will Adobe support it?
    Thanks in advance.
