I just got InDesign CS6 and am running it on an iMac and I know the license is good for two computers which will come in very handy for me.  How do I set it up to access it from my second iMac?

I just had an afterthought, Peter, if I could bother you further; if the downstairs iMac that I want to access it from is in my wife's name and not mine (even though I'll be the one using it on her computer) does that affect anything or can I simply load the software straight into her computer without any complications?

  • How can I install InDesign CS6 with my newly purchased serial no. when I have deleted the trial?

    hi guys,
I need to know how I can install InDesign CS6 with my newly purchased serial no. when I have deleted the trial version? In other words I do not have the trial version any longer so I need the actual download files/folder to link the serial number to. I have CC as well but that shouldn't make a difference - I need to run InDesign CS6 for third party plugins.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi there,
If you have purchased CS6 Indesign Download from Adobe Online, then you can go ahead and login to your Adobe account and navigate to "My Adobe" > "My Orders" to locate the Order, its download and the serial number.
You can also download the same trial version again and just use the serial number to activate it to a full version. Below is the link for the trial versions for CS6 versions:

    Hi,
How to check the InDesign cs6 serial number on my office iMac? I am no the one who download it.
My InDesign cs6 keeps crashing, so my boss ask me to reinstall back. But the problem is, how do I check the serial number? Someone else has already installed it, and we cant track who.
    Please help.
    Regards,

    >Someone else has already installed it, and we cant track who
Not very good office/employee management... but if you DID know who, and you had his/her Adobe ID, you could go to https://www.adobe.com/account.html for a list of activated programs

Safari (10.5.2) crashes 100% of the time after successfuly logging on .Mac portal.
    ... and Firefox doesn't.
I've upgraded yesterday night to 10.5.2 and today (while behind an http proxy) I can't get to log in onto .Mac Safari crashes as soon as my login is processed.
Problem Reporter, as always, can't report anything if siting behind am http proxy.
I don't have specific plugins besides the usual QT and Flash players.
    So what now ?
    Thanks

    Hello,
No, it doesn't. I've tried that already.

I notice that Input_Managers is now called Input Methods. I've tried to move all of them away once. No avail!
The crash reporter logs are always identical: EXCBADACCESS SIGBUS with processor eip: 0x92c5817f.
This is as far as I've been today. As 10.5.2 has been out on the street for such a short time, perhaps some better clues will show up on this forum or somewhere else.

  • I have a 2009 Mac Pro 10.8.3 and half of the time Disc Utility doesn't respond?  Any ideas?

I have a 2009 Mac Pro 10.8.3 and half of the time Disk Utility doesn't respond and I have to force quit and restart the machine.  Any ideas?

    You have some (major) issues.
Are you in Recovery Mode ? Used Option key or Command R to get there?
I would grab the ML installer ESD you saved and do a clean install on another drive and begin to rebuild to a new system.
You may or may not have TimeMachine but have backed up problem files.
Having a bootable backup clone of your system is a must.
Hard shutdowns will add more layers of problems and add to whatever there was before.
Generally there is not a need to use Disk Utility other than to repair permissions either before or after installing updates.
    Have you:
tried with everything else unplugged so you don't have any external devices
    tried with a safe boot
    Why.
After any forced shutdown you should use ML Recovery and one Safe Boot on the first next boot from a working system.

  • Is InDesign CS6 compatible with Mac OS X 10.9

Will InDesign CS6 (or earlier versions of InDesign CS) work with Mac's Mavericks OS (OS X 10.9)?

  • InDesign 5.5 on Mac OSX 10.8.2 crashes - XML-related?

    Hi all,
One of our compositors has had repeated problems with InDesign CS 5.5 crashing. Our workflow generally entails importing well-formed XML for book designs, and it usually works fine. On occasion, this one compositor has experienced frequent crashes, by which I mean InDesign closes and generates an error (I don' t know if this forum permits attachments, I have a long problem report file I could upload). Once this problem starts with a given file or set of files, it's almost impossible for him to work on them for more than a minute or two without InDesign completely bombing out (it doesn't hang, it disappears instantly). We've subsequently tested these files on other systems with different OS versions, but the same version of InDesign and the crash occurs there as well. So it seems that once the problem starts, it's associated with the file itself, and not necessarily the specific system in started on.
We've tried saving these files as IDML and working on them in that form, but the same problem occurs. We've tried many things to resolve this (new system, new OS, reinstall CS), and we're at a complete loss for how to finally fix it (though I just bought some paid support incidents with Adobe, so I guess we'll turn there next). I was hoping that someone in this forum may have experienced and resolved this sort of issue before and can shed some light on it.
Any help will be very appreciated.
    Greg

Hi, I'm the "compositor" ("desktop publisher") mentioned above as having the chronic crashing problem. Since our production department of nine InDesign users has not yet upgraded from 5.5, we don't get official tech support, but we hope to find some answers to our questions here.
If the "bad link" suggested above in relation to "AGM" appearing in the first lines of the problem report is referring to links between text frames or to placed images, that's an area that's too highly controlled and routinely checked too often to be suspect. The crashing problem has been too persistent for too long (over a year) to have been triggered by something as relatively detectable and easily fixed as that. (Perhaps you're referring to some other kind of link?)
When a crash happens, it seems to occur spontaneously (seemingly "out of the blue") when in the middle of working on a job -- since we publish books, usually in the middle of a "chapter file," and (here would seem to be a clue) only in a file into which text that has been converted to "clean XML" has been imported. No problem with any other kinds of text imports -- but XML is what we use.
What happens is the sudden appearance of the "spinning beach ball," which can last for quite a few seconds at first, but there is no way out, and no going back -- inevitably the job disappears from the screen, the program crashes, and the "problem report" appears on the screen, giving you the choice of clicking on "reinstall" (automatically sending the report to Adobe) and "restore" the file to the screen; or "OK," which closes the report and requires you to open InDesign again manually. I usually end up restoring, to save lost time, but the more I reopen the program, however I do it, the more frequently the crash happens again. At first it might take a relatively "complex" procedure (e.g., moving a text or art frame from one page to another, or just navigating from one page to another) to cause the crash. But the more times it happens, and with increasing frequency, the less it takes to do it (e.g., cutting and pasting, or deleting), until finally just opening the program precipitates another crash, by which point it's impossible to get anything done.
If you regard it as a kind of "grand mal seizure" or "convulsion," you could compare the initial signs of a crash about to happen -- e.g., a bar of color overlaid on a running head at the top of a page, to indicate its being "tracked," will suddenly extend off the page and to the edge of the screen, and presumably beyond -- to the "aura" or feeling of impending doom experienced by a victim before being seized by a convulsion. That's a fairly invariable visual foreshadowing of a long series of ever more frequent crashes that can then be counted on to continue happening throughout the file structure of an entire book.
Much theorizing has gone on about the root cause of this incredible waste of production time, but no one as yet has been able to attribute it to anything that can be "fixed." Instead, the crashes come and go at will -- sometimes lying dormant, often returning with a vengeance, and lingering perniciously until a book finally gets produced, at a cost of several times the amount of production time that it ordinarily ought to take.
Does this sound like some kind of "viral" behavior? At this point that's my best guess.
    Thanks,
    William

You might do better to ask this in one of the hardware or Mac OS forums. This forum is for the Numbers application in the iWork suite.

  • Mac Mini extremely unresponsive, pinwheel of death all the time, fails reboot.

I got my mac mini 2011 the MC816LL/A model in February and don't give it much usage so I was surprised when it started behaving erratically and and giving me the pinwheel of death all the time, the issues started all of a sudden a couple of months ago. Even when I force reset the computer fails and then i have to turn it off completely and wait more than 15 mins to be able to use it again, totally ridiculous... I've read all the threads about the issue and they mention OSX lion being sluggish and also to reset PRAM as last resort after I've tried everything under the sun(uninstalling buggy software, repairing disk permissions, general maintenance... etc) I know there has to be something wrong on the software side because I still own an old PowerBook g4 that i got back in 04' and it has never given me any issues so I'm extremely fed up with this issue since this computer is supposed to be better. Any suggestions??

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive may be failing.
If you have more than ten or so files or folders on your Desktop, move them, temporarily at least, somewhere else in your home folder.
If iCloud is enabled, disable it.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable. Launch the usual set of applications you use when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
    Select the CPU tab.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
    Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting.

  • InDesign CS6: How do I set Character Color to Unspecified/Undefined in the Paragraph Style Options?

Is there a way to create a Paragraph Style that leaves the Character Color unspecified?  I have a bunch of existing text frames containing characters of various colors. When I apply the Paragraph Style, the text is changed to black. I want the text color to remain unchanged; that is, I want the Paragraph Style's Character Color attribute undefined.  How do I do this?
All of the text frames in this case have their Character Style set to [None]. The text colors were applied individually, not via the use of Character Styles.

If you apply the color to the characters via Character styles then the colors will be unchanged when the Paragraph style is applied. Like this:
