Indesign CS6 printer settings reverting to default

Hi
We have a problem which has started recently for some students when printing from Indesign CS6. Most of them have print presets which they created months ago for printing to the default printer using secure print, A3, heavyweight paper, bypass tray etc. They were working fine, but now, when they print a document using that preset it just prints on standard paper and normal (not secure) print.
I checked their print presets and in the setup for the printer within the print preset the settings have changed to the default settings. If I delete the preset and create another one any changes I make in the setup / preferences for that printer revert back as soon as I click 'Ok'. A work around I have found is that  when I click 'setup' if I click on any other printer, then click back to the correct (default) printer, then click preferences and make the changes they stick and do not change back to the default settings.
This issue happens without using print presets as well, If you choose file / print and then setup, and you do not click on any other printer and then back again to the correct printer before clicking 'preferences' any changes you make will revert to default as soon as you click 'Ok'
It only seems to be affecting Indesign.
The printer is a Xerox Docucenter C6680, using the PCL 6 driver on a print server. We are also running Papercut.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I have tried trashing the Indesign prefs but this does not seem to help
Cheers
Murray

THere appears to be a Postscript diver for this printer. Have you tried that?

  • Set "Scale To Fit Media" as default in Photoshop CS6 print settings on OSX

Quite frequently my boss will email 10 to 30 images to me to print from his camera. Is there a way to setup Photoshop CS6 print settings so that "Scale To Fit Media" is the default. I tried to create an action and then through Bridge select a folder and Batch send the files to Open-Print-Close. Since images are never received 8.5"x11" it would be convenient to have this as a default. Since the print settings revert, or aren't defaulting to "settings last used", my batch attempt was unsuccessful. I know I could edit my action to adjust image size to page dimensions, but thought a way to edit the Print settings default must be out there somewhere. (Using MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.4) Any Suggestions?

Unfortunately "Scale to Fit Media" isn't a toggle. But let's try a workaround.
You can create an Image Size action where you will scale the picture to either 8.5 inches wide or 11 inches high, whichever works best for you. First be sure "resampling" is turned off under Image > Image Size.
You would open an iimage, then create an new action, title it "Letter 11 inches" and that's when the recording starts.
Enter 11 inches as the Height, click OK and then stop recording.
This is a quick and dirty action and assumes all pictures are portrait and not landscape. It may just work for you.
You should be able to include it in your batch processing.

    Hi,
The HP Deskjet 845c is actually no longer supported on Mac OS X since version 10.6:

You may try installing the 3rd party HPIJS drivers which seems to support the 845c.

  • Indesign CS6 Printing Issues

Having looked at the forums and found Adobe support less than helpful I am hopping that the comunite will be able to help me out on these frustrating issues.
We are having a number of issues while trying to print from InDesign CS6 to our OKI C830 printer
    Our setup:
    OS: Windows 8 64bit
    InDesign CS6 Version: 8.0.1
    Printer drivers: PS: 1.2.0.0 & PLC: 1.0.7.0/1.1.7
    Printer: Oki C830 /256mb RAM / V1.16
    Issues while printing from InDesign:
Printing multiple pages causes an error - undefined offending command stack error
After printing the first page successfully we get the error above.
I implemented the fix outlined in the following link: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2878922#2878922Changed the print option from Binary to ASCII – this helped in so much that we could then print one or two pages as needed.
Booklet printing – When trying to print a booklet it seems that the spread is not understood by the printer Try to print a booklet from ID 6 the pages are printed at random onto a single A4/3 sheet of paper.
As a work around we are fourced to create the document in ID CS6 and then expoort it to ID CS4 for printing.
Also as a side note I have tried printing to our old HP printers and they work fine. Also this issue was present on Windows 7x32 as well.
Thanks in advance for any help provided.
    Cheers,
    Matthew

The issues you are having can be caused by driver conflicts on the Operating system. If windows * installed the drivers automatically, it may be the wrong drivers. If they were installed from the disc, they may be outdated for Windows 8.
    Please take the following steps.
    1. If printer is connected by usb, disconnect the usb cable from the computer. If printer is connected on network, turn printer off.
    2. Click start then click "Devices and Printers".
    3. Right click on printer icon and click "Remove Device"
    4. After icon is gone, single left click on Microsoft Document writer and then click Print server Properties at top of page.
    5. Click on the drivers tab at the top of that window. Select anything that says "Oki" and select remove. Then select remove driver and driver package.
The driver package may not remove but it's ok as long as the driver is successfully removed.
    6. Go to okidata.com and click on "Support" at top of page. In the grey area, select download a driver.
    7. Next to select technology, click the dropdown window and select multifunctional product.
    8. Another dropdown window will appear. Select the MC860MFP.
    9. You will see three boxes. The center one will be titled "Find a Driver". Select Windows 7 X64 edition.
    10. Select English MC860nMFP Series 64 Bit PS Driver for Windows (This will be the fifth option down.)
    11. In the Driver Download Info box to the right, click the blu underlined file titled MC860Win7x64PS_ENU130.exe
    12. Follow the installation instructions.

  • Printer Settings revert to "Standard"

Having a very frustrating problem. I have set up a preset in aperture for my Epson Stylus 3800 Pro. In the printer settings I have also set up pre-sets that inculde a High-quality print setting (Ultrafine). However whenever I select the pre-set in Aperature and click the printer settings button it has reverted to Standard presets (lower quality). And when I change it my preset and print, it is printing at the standard quality insted of the settings I chose. I can tell by the quality and the speed of the print head. Only happens in aperture. Photoshop prints fine.

I thought I had the same problem. I am printing to an Epson 3800. I would save my pre-set and then print. However, the next time I wanted to print the "printer settings" box showed "Standard", and I thought it had reverted to a basic setting. It does not change any of the settings, only the name reverts to "Standard". If you go to "Summary" in the printer settings box, you will see your original settings preserved. I always "Save" then "Lock" my settings once I have a pre-set made. I have pre-sets for all my paper sizes and for different paper types, and none of them change. It does make life a little simpler, at least as far as printing goes. Hope this helps, Roger

  • Indesign Color Settings Reverting to default

Hi, in search of some help in regards to Indesign Color settings.
We are running CS3 and have a standard 'ISO Coated v2 ECI' color profile that we use in a color settings setting within our adobe CS3 suite.
We use Bridge to synchonize our applications together and then go into illustrator's color settings afterwards and set 'preserve embeded profiles' to off so as to maintain our illustrator vector cmyk colors etc.
If you go back and check the application color settings individually everything is fine. But our problem is that at some point indesign is resetting it's color settings back to the default col settings with U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 as the CMYK profile.
Has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix for it?
    Thanks in advance, Kevin.

I've never heard of this. Try resetting your preferences : Replace Your Preferences
Are you fully patched to 5.0.4?

  • Desktop and settings reverted to default suddenly!

Somehow my desktop, profile, settings, well everything reverted back to default. I can't even seem to "right click" with two fingers and regular click any more!
The only thing I can see being the cause of this is when I opened up Open Office 3.2 to write, it gave me some registration options and wouldn't start until I filled in the Name, Initial and what not so I just type my name there (I name I hadnt used anywhere else on the computer like home folder etc). After that, I noticed Firefox had crashed, so I force quit it. Then I clicked my messenged AdiumX icon by accident when trying to restart Firefox and I noticed all my settings, theme and everything was gone there. I restarted the computer and found myself back with the default blue background and a clean desktop...
Everything seem to still be available in my folders and Applications, but all settings and what not are gone.
    I found this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1876?viewlocale=en_US
But I dont understand how to fix this still. There is only one "user folder" and it is the same name as always, not changed or anything. I have only used one account and it was also admin status. User name and short name are the same in User config panel.
Please help, I really dont want to lose all my settings and bookmarks...
    Thank you!
    Best regards,
    Carl

Hi Carl, sometimes it can happen spontaneously too, though quite infrequent.
First we need to make sure there is no directory damage.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If the Disk is fine, hopefully you can quit all Applications, drag those item in each folder in Shared to the proper location in your folders then reboot.

  • InDesign CS6 print number of copies issue

    Hello!
I have a document that I needed 25 copies of, so I set the # of copies to 25 and off it went. No issue. However, now when I go to a different doc and I print, the # of copies stayed at 25 when I only needed 1. I have to remember to change the # of copies every time I go to print. I was wondering, if there is a preference or setting within the print options for InDesign to return each doc back to 1 copy instead of keeping the previous # of copies?
    Thanks!

    Eugene,
Oh, ok. That's a bummer. Oh, well, lol. Thanks anyway!

A visited website says cookies need to be enabled for me to proceed.I follow the advice from Firefox and check the appropriate boxes under privacy and exit. When I try to login the same error message comes up so I repeat the routine and try again. The change is not retained as I see the default settings when I return to the page. I would love to see an APPLY button there to ensure the change will be made before clicking OK.

I guess that is where the css for animation comes in.
CSS transitions and animations, while very  eye-catching, do not function in IE9 or older, so be careful about adding too much of either to a menu system.
Transitions will give you the start and stop frames so instead of a nice fluid change from one state to the other, you essentially get a rollover effect from the start style to the finish style in one step. Animations won't run at all and will only show the start frame.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't know how for sure. Go into the System Preferences/Print and Fax pane and see if you can set it there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Color Settings Reverting to Default

Maybe I posted this already since it's been happening for a while.
I am working on a file and someplace down the line, I notice perhaps sRGB indicated as the profile or just now, Gray at Dot Gain 20% instead of gamma 2.2. Also the Profile mismatches check boxes are unchecked.
I cannot put a finger on this problem. I did also notice that when I booted up this morning, Bridge was showing only Computer and Desktop in the folders tab instead of the last folder opened as usual.
    Something funny going on.
Win7 64 bit, CS5, all updates to Win7, running an AMD Athlon II 630 on an Asus M4A 77 TD mobo,nVidia 9500 vid card.
I did run a mem check last night from the Win7 memtest utility with no problems. I ran it out of curiosity and not because I was having any problems. But this I only ran once since installing Win7.

I hate it when I hear someone's computer forgets things.  It absolutely shouldn't do that!
My first advice:  Stop using a registry cleaner.   I'm here to tell you it simply is not necessary (hint:  I run stable systems for years without using one).  I'd like to hear what makes you think it is needed, and why you would trust some company to know just what's necessary in your registry and what isn't, and delete things from your computer.
Conversely, if you simply just won't do without a registry cleaner, why would it be it a surprise to you when things unexpectedly disappear?
As far back as I can remember, except for when I've purposefully tried clearing my Photoshop preferences manually (the Ctrl-Shift-Alt thing, just to see how it works), I have never lost a Photoshop preference.

  • CS6 Photoshop Print Settings- Problem w/1/2" borders

I have started to have probelms with the printing pictures using the CS6 Print Settings box.
After I have selected all the appropriate Printer setups and set the Print size to 8.5x11 both in Printer Setting and in the CS6Scaled Print Size box I get the below Print Preview.
Both when I manually enter Scale,H&W and when I check the "Scale to fit Media Box".
It leaves the top and bottom with a 1/2" white border at top/bottom as seen below.
    Any advice would be welcome.
    Dan

There may be a interaction between your Printer Driver Settings and your Photoshop Print settings. May depend on your OS and Printer Drivers.  I'm on a Windows 7 PC with Epson 4800 Printer.  I opened a new black document set to be 8.5" by 11" at 300 DPI. I did some screen captures of Photoshop Print Dialog where I used the Printer setting button to set different printer setting so you can see the effect they have on Photoshop's Print Dialog. I have Photoshop manager the colors and turn off the printer color management. So basically all I use the printer setting for it to turn off color management and to set Paper options.
Capture 1 Paper Tray 8.5" x 11"  Portrait Standard Print Area
Capture 2 Paper Tray 8.5" x 11"  Portrait Maximum Print Area
Capture 3 Paper Tray 8.5" x 11"  Portrait Borderless option note the paper in Photoshop's print dialog in no longer 8.5" x 11"
Capture 4 RollPaper Paper Sized define 8.51" x 11.1"  Printer Borderless option With this paper size set in the printer Photoshop's print dialog shoes 8.5" x 11"
One more capture with Paper Tray 8.5" x 11" Paper Print area maximum not borderless with printer scaling the image to 100% of 8.5" x 11" in printer setting note this look like borderless option with roll paper set to 8.51" x 11.1"
As you see the Photoshop Dialog changes after the Printer setting are changed using the printer setting buttons.
However your screen capture look more like a mismatch of Aspect Ratios. The print dialog shows portrait paper and your image windows shows a almost square aspect ratio  the aspect ratio difference between your image and your paper is causing your white boarders. Your image is more square then portrait.  So when its width is scaled to 8.5" wide some 229% the same percentage of the height does not reach 11".   Aspect Ratio you must not forget about you Images Aspect ratio and your paper aspect ration you do not want to distort you image to fill the paper so crop you image to your Paper aspect ratio if you want a boarderless print.

  • Cases in which Domain Group Policy settings would be reverted to default settings on a Win7 client

Hi - I'm sure this info is out there somewhere, but I'm having a hard time finding it.  Basically, I'm trying to identify the cases in which settings deployed via Domain Group Policy on 2008R2/Win7SP1 would get reverted back to "default settings"
on a Win7SP1 client that is still a member of the domain, and is in a proper OU, properly targeted, WMI filters should still evaluate true, etc...
For instance, it appears that if machine-level registry settings contained within a LocalGPO file on a client get corrupted (C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy\Machine\registry.pol), all of those settings, plus all machine level administrative template settings
defined in Domain Group Policy, get reverted to default settings (corresponds with Event ID 1096 in System Event Log where it references "LocalGPO").  I have not confirmed if this is the case for machine level settings defined outside of administrative
templates in Domain Group Policy, or for any user level settings though.  (But I suspect not.)
When a workstation is unable to talk to a Domain Controller in order to identify applicable Domain Group Policy settings (for instance, this issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2421599/en-us), do administrative templates Domain Group Policy settings revert to defaults up until the next successful processing interval?  I don't believe
    so, but would like confirmation.
Are there any other cases in which Domain Group Policy settings for a client still joined to the Domain would be reverted to defaults?
And when a client is unjoined from the Domain, what Domain Group Policy settings would remain on the client?  I understand that some Domain Group Policy settings outside of administrative templates are "tattooed" to the registry.  Does
anyone know of a full list of these settings?  I believe that most or all of the ones in Windows Settings\Security Settings are tattooed, and the only way to get these settings removed is to explicitly change them via registry edit or LocalGPO/Local Security
    Policy, after unjoining the domain.
Any info/insight/links to other doc/etc would be much appreciated!

    Hi Shaun,
    >>If a client cannot talk to a domain controller at all, admin template settings still stay in-place on the client, correct?
As far as I know, it's not this case. If a client can't communicate with domain controllers, it means that the GPOs applied to the client are out of scope. As suggested by
the article I provided, for native policy, "when a Group Policy object (GPO) goes out of scope, the policy setting is removed allowing the original configuration value to be used."
    >>What if a client looses network connectivity while reading Domain GPO?
Group policy will be get updated when computers start up and users log on. Besides, for workstations, group policy will get refreshed at background with by default an interval
of 90 minutes. As long as workstations can restore network connectivity, the group policy settings will get updated.
    >>Are there any other failure cases like this where some or all Group Policy settings (admin template or other areas) would get reverted?
There are many reasons which can cause GP malfunction. However, Windows itself provides necessary tools for troubleshooting various issues. When GP malfunctions, we can check
Event Viewer, collect group policy result, or generate group policy log to troubleshoot.

  • Help, my print settings are so messed up. How can I return all to the orginal default settings?

Can anyone tell me how to return all my print settings to original default?

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles
