Indesign CS6 "Save" not "Save As"? HELP!

Ok, I'm a graphic designer with a crazy amount of folders spaning 2 external hard drives...Keep that in mind as I ask this question. I just upgraded to CS6 and now everytime I open and exsisiting indesign file, update it, and hit "Save" is defalts to my desktop. This might be a dumb questions but usually "Save" will save it over the orginal file..."Save As" is what I hit when I want a duplicate or new file name....What with that? Maybe its an easy fix but I can't figure out how to "save" is over the old file. Honestly it would take too much time to have to remember which folder it was inside of to replace it. Any Help?

If you are opeing files from your previous version they are considered new files (notice the [Converted] appended to the name in the document title) and the first save will always be a save as to prevent you from accidentally overwriting the original. If you are smart you will give them a new name and keep the old versions intact. Things do go wrong.
In fact, I actually recommend you export your old files from the original versions as either .inx or .idml, depending on the version, and open that instead of the .indd in CS6. You're less likely to have a nasty surprise later.

  • Indesign CS6 saves my PDF in Negative

Ive been having this issue for a few weeks now and Ive hunted online and found nothing.
I use Indesign CS6 to create ads. The Images in these ads are .psd saved as CMYK or Grey Scale.
I save them as PDF's, and in Preview randomly the PDF preview wont contain a certain logo and some of the images will be in reverse (Negatives) not sure why. But when I open these files in Adobe Acrobat Pro they look normal.
This is an issue because when I send the files they will see them in this preview state and not see the whole file.....
    Please Help

The answer is stop using Preview. It is a substandard PDF viewer for
anything other than plain vanilla PDFs.
Check out what you're exporting when you create the PDFs. It's called
Adobe PDF and while there are many good PDF readers out there, using
anything other than Acrobat or Reader is hit or miss.

  • A file which was created and saved using Adobe Photoshop CS6 is not opening anymore HELP

Hi, please help with my issue which is as follows:
A file which was created and saved using Adobe Photoshop CS6 is not opening anymore and sends a message saying that the file is not compatible.
What should I do, I have invested so much in that file and I dont think i will be able to do it all over again.

That's why people do incremental saves and use backups... You could try to open the file in an image viewer like IrfanView and see which parts are salvagable, but that's as good as it gets most likely...

  • InDesign CS6 will not retain preferences

One of my users was recently upgraded from CS5 to Design and Web Premium CS6.  The first issue is that the InDesign program crashes for no apparent reason from time to time.  Secondly, the InDesign program will not retain any preferences.  If the program crashes and is restarted, the preferences are lost.  Also, if the program is closed normally and reopened, the preferences are lost.  This started happening about one month ago and prior to that, there were no problems.
I have searced the forums and internet for a solution and while I've been able to find similar issues with other users, I cannot find a resolution.  Re-installaiton of the program has not produced a resolution.  Can anyone assist with this frustrating problem.

I'm sorry Pete...I didn't quite get your response.  Can you reboot into safe mode, disable all drivers, turn off your virus protection, uninstall the latest service pack and then reinstall it, check your fonts because bad fonts can cause problems in getting responses through.
Pete...I don't disrespect you. I DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU.  I'm sure that your intentions are always legit and that you truly TRY to help people.  My only issues are that I came her for help and would rather have a dozen people shrug their shoulders and say "IDUNNO" rather than getting the same old questions about drivers, service packs, virus protection, firewalls or first born male childs birthdate.  While I may have been aggressive in looking for a solution....I did find your responses to be a bit patronizing and belittling.  I do not disrespect you.
A different philosophy?  ABSO-FREAKING-LOUTLEY!!!  I'm more of a "fix the problem guy".  Forget the amputation...put the poor ******* out of his misery and perform a Frankenstein ritual to bring him back to life (My analogy for a quick re-image from my deployment server).  Fortunately for me, I was able to solve the issue by simply recreating a user profile.
Once again, thanks Pete for you response.

  • Brand new iMac. Indesign CS6 will not work at all. It will not reinstall. Tried to contact adobe and I get nowhere.

I can't reinstall from the adobe site. I get an installation failed message. I can't use the version that I transferred from my old iMac. I am missing plug-ins. Something called JBX and LILO.Indesing.Plugin. I can't find any of these on the web or on the adobe site. I've called apple they say they are third party things and can't help me. Other users have had similar issues but I can't find out how they solved them. I am in a panic. I have a ton of work to do and can't get my swell new computer to run my software. RUNNING CS6

  • Updated InDesign CS6 and not unexpectedly quits and won't open

Hi, I just updated indesign cs6 (for mac) this morning and now it won't open and just crashes with the "InDesign has unexpectedly quit" window. PhotoShop, Ilustrator and Dreamweaver all seem to be opening and working fine but it's InDesign I need! Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks, Dara

Sorry I haven't replied earlier. I re-downloaded the original version InDesign from the my adobe user site and installed it again, I also used Onyx to clear all permission, preferences etc and restarted which got it working again. I'm in the middle of doing a massive project that has very tight deadlines so I don't think I'll try updating again until it's finished. Adobe CS6 in general doesn't seem to be updating properly at all, either through the app store on mountain lion or through the adobe updater system. Is this a common problem do you know? Again, apologies for the lateness of my reply and thank you, Dara

  • InDesign CS6 will not open

It launches for a few seconds then disappears without completing startup.     The little launch screen says "calling early initializers" and "starting up service registry" before disappearing. I have tried the suggestions at http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-launch-issues-problems-cs5.html with no luck, including running the Adobe Support Advisor, which did not see any problems.
I have restarted the computer. I have tried opening InDesign directly from the application and also through different files. I have deleted recovery files. Not sure what else to do. And I'm on deadline for many things that require InDesign.

Hang logs don't mean a thing to me, unfortunately. We normally ask users to convert hangs to crashes using activity monitor, then post the crash log (see Adobe Forums: InDesign CS5.5 Not Responding), but at this point it's entirely moot since trashing the prefs solved your problem.

  • InDesign CS6 file not opening...running OSX Mavericks

Hi there, for some reason I am unable to open InDesign CS6 files.  I've restarted Creative Cloud, my computer, nothing.  I get a prompt saying that some files need to be relinked, which I've had before but then it opens fine.  I can't even open a new document.  This is a new issue since OSX Mavericks update....any thoughts?

I'm a Windows user, but I can tell you that there are thousands of Mac users with CS6, and a god number of them use the new Mavericks without a problem, so it's more likely to be something specific to your system.
I can also tell you that upgrading an OS can be a crapshoot and it's usually better to do a clean install, but I can't promise that wiping your system and rebuilding will solve the problem if it's some sort of conflict with third-party software.
Not error messages, crash, spinning pinwheel of death?

  • Indesign CS6 simply not opening in any way on Windows 7.

Indesgn CS6 has not opened since my Windows 7 PC has been re-formatted a few weeks ago. I have installed all recent updates and it won't open from either short-cuts or through explorer. Any suggestions?

Do you mean the applciation itself, or files? What happens when you try?

  • InDesign CS6 saves file, but crashes when I try to open this file

    Hi,
I am having a huge problem with Indesign since yesterday. It worked fine before.
I use Adobe Creative Suite CS6.
Since yesterday, I have problems with files that I just saved. I can open older files (from before yesterday), but I cannot open any file that I saved recently. Indesign crashes every time I open the file (the file is visible, but right before all the palettes are loaded, Indesign closes down).
I already saved several files (under different file names) since yesterday, the problem stays the same.
I already uninstalled and re-installed CS6, it didn't solve the problem.
This is quite a nightmare. I am thankful for every effort to help!
All other programs in the Creative Suite work fine!

It is puzzling indeed. And quite a desaster for me, since I have a deadline to meet.
No changes, no new installations (not known, maybe updates in the background??).
InDesign started crashing in the middle of the workprocess. Since then the problem persists.
When I open an old file and start working on it, InDesign also crashes after a while during the workprocess.
    So I can't work, I can't save files ... booo!
This happened with an update of a document that I work on all the time, a monthly magazine.
Maybe it is a Windows problem, although it is strange that all other programs work fine. (I use Windows XP)

  • Help! InDesign CS6 tools not working

    Hello,
I recently upgraded to CS6 on my PC and have run into some issues with InDesign. None of the tool buttons in the top ribbon or on my side menu function properly. For example, if I make a text box and wish to change the font, I can't select the font drop down menu, nor can I change the size of the type. This also happens when I create a shape and want to change size, color, line weight, line type, etc. Pages do not work either and I have had to use the bottom page navigation.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the problem did not go away. Any thoughts or suggestions?  Thank you!
