InDesign CS6 Should Remember Window Position

InDesign CS6 should remember the position of your document window when you close and reopen it, as previous versions did.  It's really quite a nuisance to have to drag and resize the window every time I open a document.  Does anyone else miss this feature?

What exactly? User generated workspaces remember there settings. If they don't, you have a permmisions issue on your user folders and the prefs/ workspace files can't be saved. If you're referring to undocked windows being repositioned across multiple monitors, then that's outside Adobe's control and solely up to your graphics driver, which by defualt will always open all windows and sub-windows on teh primary monitor.

  • Mail Not Remembering Window Position of Previous Session (again)

Everytime I relaunch Mail, I have to rearrange the viewer windows to the way that is most efficient to use them. Is there a way for Mail to remember window positions, and sort preferences for each viewer window?

Interestingly, Mail does seem to remember the window positions, in its com.apple.Mail.plist, but it isn't applying the remembered positions. I tried a few times, and on at least one try it got the positions correct. Could it be that if you quit, restart then quit and restart again it will have them right on the second restart?

  • InDesign won't remember window location

I'm running InDesign CS3 on a Windows XP system with Service Pack 2.
InDesign and InCopy open maximized, and I want them to open at half-screen so I can work in them side by side. I've saved workspaces, but that doesn't seem to work.

I'm similarly annoyed by the application's apparent inehrent inability to remember window size / configuration / placement on desktop whensuccessively opening the app.
In particular, Win 7 (64-bit FWIW in this instance) and using InDesign CS6, v8.0.1
After creating a shortcut on the desktop, the only options afforded through its Properties, at least as far as I've found, are to Run: Normal Window / Minimized / Maximized. Both Minimized and Maximized work as advertised, but Normal Window isn't behaving like a "normal" window, at least normal in the context of most applications running on Windows.
Is there anyway to get InDesign to remember these settings?
    Thank you very much.

  • Remembering windows positions when switching from/to dual screen display

    Hello,
Most of the time, a second LCD screen is plugged in my Macbook and configured as the main display. When I arrange the windows, I keep iTunes or my mail application maximized on the macbook screen and use the bigger external screen for all other windows.
If I unplug the external display, all the windows are of course moved to the laptop display. When I plug again the external screen, all the windows are moved to the external display. But I would like the iTunes and mail application to remain on the laptop screen.
Is there any utility to remember the windows positions and arrange them automatically when I switch from/to single/dual-screen display?
    Regards,
    Raph

Would DisplayWatcher do what you want? I came across this a couple of weeks ago but haven't had the chance to try it out yet.

Use gnome with a window manager that can do this. I don't think metacity can be configured (hardly at all) to do this. Consider integrating XFWM or one of the *box'es. When you've grown used to it, you'll thank me

  • Mail Not Remembering Window Position of Previous Session

Mail has started forgetting how its main window was sized when previously using the application.
When I open Mail, the window dimensions are like those for a small screen - not as previously sized.
Is this a known problem (could not find with discussion search) and is there a fix? Thanks!

  • Preview - Remember Window Position

If I move my finder window, resize it, then close the window Mac OS X remembers this position and next time I open a finder window it opens to that position and size.  How can I do the same with Preview?

that is really a missing feature and there are still many apps, that do not remember window size/position.
There are 2 little helpers available (and some others, this I have tested with 10.6), that at least reduce the extra effort to just pressing a keyboard shortcut, to move/resize the frontmost window.
In your case, it would so be possible to move/resize the Preview window to the right half of the screen.
--- ShiftIt: the totally free one:
    http://code.google.com/p/shiftit/
it goes to the menu bar and does not have a dock icon.
It moves/resize to the 4 quarter screen's, the 4 half screen's and has maximize and center
    --- SizeUp: free with "pay-me-reminder"
    http://irradiatedsoftware.com/sizeup/
it goes to the menu bar and does not have a dock icon.
It has some more option and is spaces aware

  • Indesign CS6 crashes on Windows 8.1

    I've deleted the folder %localappdata%\Adobe\InDesign and %appdata%\Adobe\InDesign
Yet InDesgn CS6 crashes when I start it as normal user.
I can start it as administrator but I don't want to start adobe software as administrator.
How do I start InDesign as normal user?

The thing to do is keep the Temp folder in %LOCALAPPDATA%.
If you don't like it to be there (I have temp data in a memory disk) one can use something like Hardlink Shell extension from (http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/linkshellextension.html to create a junction from the %LOCALAPPDATA%\temp to a folder on a differnet location or drive.
    hope this helps.

  • Indesign CS6 errors with Windows 7

    Windows 7 Professional - 32 Bit

Is anyone having issues saving as a .pdf file? When we try to do a save or save as, we often get file is already open, when it really isnt open at least on the task manager. We have to simply do a save as new name for it to save at all. Then of course it becomes annoying as now we have 12 versions that have to be saved in a day, delete the 11 once we are done for the day.
We are also getting lots of freezes and delays when in the Indesign files. This could be old files or new files or even files that were saved as IDML and started over in case of bloating.
We went into preferences and tried better performance under Interface and display performances, but still suffer from delays.
We are showing that all our Adobe Products are up to date based on the update manager.
    Thanks everyone.

Thanks Roberto. We are definitely working on getting a new OS version. Budget...
Also, I am sorry to have not included this detail as it just came to me. The issue happens as I perform the following task.
    Cntrl + E = Export
I select the location to export and I select the file if I want to overwrite it, otherwise click the Save Button.
Dialog box "Confirm Save As" appears if it is an overwrite.
Here is where I get the problem. Adobe Indesign Dialog Box "Cannot save to the file 'file name.pdf', because the file is already open." So, it actually happens before the Export Adobe PDF dialog appears for me to uncheck the view pdf option after export.
Now, turning off the preview pane seems to have fixed it. I did not have the file selected in windows explorer. I actually opened three older files that had the save as issues and now they seem to overwrite the files just fine.
Thank you again to everyone. I appreciate your help in this. I will check with my other graphic designer to see if they are having issues as well.

  • Remember window position

It's driving me crazy, that almost every time I open a session, the windows are arranged randomly over my 3 screens. And it's never the same. In a few occasions it remembers the positions.
    Please work out that but!
But meanwhile, does someone has an idea how to work around that bug?

NativeWindow.bounds ( or x and y for just the position).

  • I cannot get the Adobe Content Viewer to display anything in InDesign CS6 / on a Windows 7 PC.

I create a scrollable text that is in a text frame using the Folio Overlay with the settings of Vertical Scroll and Use the Document Setting for its position.  When I click on the Preview icon on the Folio Overlay panel, it comes up with the with a popup that says Preview on Desktop and click on it and nothing happens.

I reinstalled a download of the update (for the third time) and still it will not display my file in the Content Viewer using the Folio Overlay panel and clicking on the preview button and selected display on the desktop.  I see all the compilations, but when it is done, there is nothing displayed like it never did the complilation.  Do I need to call Adobe tech support and tell them about the bug or give up and start using the Apple Book Authoring software and forget about Adobe because there seems no answer.
