InDesign CS6: The "find" function doesn't work in "Open a file" dialog box...

I am using CS6 on OSX 10.7.5. When I try to search in the OPEN DIALOG box, it NEVER lists anything, not even a close match. If I however search the SEARCH feature on OSX it always finds what I'm looking for. Is there a setting that I have to change to get this to work or is it a glitch? thanks so much!

drag the other clip 'over' the main clip
the 2nd clip has to be selected/yellow border...
then you're prompted in the Inspector with the several options...

'Open a File' dialog box doesn't show 'Favorites'

InDesign CS6, Windows 7:
File/Open gives me this:
Notice there are no 'Favorites' on the left. I have to 'browse' for my file each time. I have a ton of files on the network, and it takes several clicks to get to them. Annoying when I'm opening several files a day. The 'Recent Places' isn't too helpful here either.
Now look at what happens in InDesign CC, Windows 7 with a File/Open:
Look at all the 'Favorites' and easy browsing on the left side. Why are the 'Open a File' dialog boxes so different in CS6 and CC? I want the CS6 'Open' dialog to be just like the CC one. (I prefer to use CS6, CC is buggy on my system.)

What it is... is cumbersome and un-necessary. Every other program in Windows (even Word Pad) opens with the 'standard' dialog with Favorites on the left. Why did Adobe program it differently? There has to be a fix in Preferences or something...

'Find' function doesn't work on some HP documents

For some pdf doc's I downloaded from HP, if I copy some characters from the text and then paste them into the Find box, the characters show up as hieroglyphs (mostly squares) in the Find box. And then actually executing the Find using those characters doesn't work, because it can't find the very word that I copied them from! On top of that, if I manually type a word into the Find box (showing normal letters), it won't find it even though I can see it within the text on the page showing on the screen. Very strange! In documents other than these old HP documents, the Find function works fine.
I looked into the document properties (menu: File >> Properties >> Fonts) and see that there are 9 fonts that have names I have never heard of before, and those fonts say "(Embedded Subset)" after the font name and "Encoding: Custom" in the font descriptions. There were a few normal fonts listed before these for that document as well.
Anyone have any idea what is going on?

It's hard to say without seeing the actual, source content, but given what you are describing, I would venture a guess that the source content is of too poor a quality to OCR reliably and accurately. To test this theory, after running OCR, identify a term that you can confirm is present, but that the search feature cannot identify. Then, copy and paste that term into Word or Notepad. What I expect you will note is that a "0" (zero) has been identified as an "8," and other things of that nature. OCR processing is garbage in, garbage out, so the source always has to be considered. Repeat this process across the document to see if experience similar results.
You don't describe how exactly you are transferring the microfilm "images" to PDF, so it's difficult to say if that process is at issue or could be improved. I suspect that's contributing to the problem, though.
Finally, with regard to the degraded image quality, you want to make sure you are selecting "Searchable Image (Exact)" from the OCR dialogue. ClearScan or any type of downsampling will likely cause or contribute to the type of issue you are describing. In a situation with low-quality source material, you would not want to use these other options.

Hi, there seems to be some link between the find function not working and HP printers not working in Tiger. It is not obvious the problems are related. I read the thread and one user had both issues but the others didn't seem to.

What exactly happens when you try to print?
Have you tried repairing permissions yet? (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility - highlight your HD on the left and choose the First Aid tab and the repair permissions option.)
If that doesn't work, see if the problem occurs in another account. If you are the only user, create another user in the Accounts pane of System Preferences.
Do you have HP software installed or are you just using the drivers which come with OS X?

my statement is pretty complex so i just tried simple one
select to_date('10-Jan-2006','dd-mon-yyyy') from dual;
but even this one doesn't work it says it is invalid month

By default SQL Developer picks up it's language settings up from (on Windows) the Regional and Language Options. You can see what it has set by querying the NLS_SESSION_PARAMETERS view.
Assuming you don't want to change to using DD-MM-YYYY formats for your months or change your regional settings on your PC, you need to tell SQL Developer which language you want, which you can do by adding the following lines to the file sqldeveloper\jdev\bin\sqldeveloper.conf:
AddVMOption -Duser.language=en
AddVMOption -Duser.country=US

The find function is not working

When I use the Find Function [CTRL +F] the word I am looking for is not found in the body of the web page - even when I know the word is there.

Sometimes the "Match case" button on the find bar gets checked, so make sure that isn't the problem. Some pages also have multiple frames and I've noticed Firefox sometimes doesn't search in all the frames. If there's a particular site where you see this, could you post the URL?

The Find function does not work with one of my pdf files

I uninstalled whatever version of the reader that had been my computer at installed 11.0.06. Same problem. Seems like the Find function has a problem with just one of my many pdf files.
For the problem file, the PDF Producer was IIPDFLib2.x, version 1.5. Fast Web View: Yes.

I can not select any text, either individual letters or sequences of letters. If I left-click and drag while holding the left button down, I generate a rectangular selection. I can then Ctrl-C the selection and paste it in Word.
So it is a image, with a pdf filename ending rather than jpg or something similar. That probably also explains why the image quality is much worse than with genuine PDF files.

The copy function doesn't work for years

Hi experts,
i have a copy function for copying a combination of version, vtype and fiscyear in another combination e.g.
version = 0, vtype = 10 and fiscyear = 2010 should be copied to version = 101, vtype = 60 and fiscyear = 2011
As far as the year doesn't change the function works for example with the same combination as before just from
fiscyear = 2010 to fiscyear = 2010 but when i try to copy from 2010 to 2011 no data will be generated.
The interesting thing is that i have all the TO-Variables for version, vtype and fiscyear in the filter and all of these char.
are selected as to changed char. in the planning function. I defined all the From-variables version-from, vtype-from and
fiscyear-from in the from part of function and the TO-variables as version-to, vtype-to and fiscyear-to in the TO-Part of the function.
Has anyone an idea why it's not working for different years?

i tried to change the fiscper too within the copy planning function and i had to work with exit variables to derive the fiscper from the fiscyear dependent on the year inputted by user. But in order to copy every periode i had to use the offset function which has not worked. I don't know why. I want to go for your proposal so i had some questions:
- if i want to create a char. relationship with fiscyear and fiscper3 as source fields and fiscper as target field i get an error message at checking the char. relationship that tells me that it is an inconsistency and it is not possible to FISCYEAR FISCPER3
-> FISCPER. So what to do?
I created the class and write my ABAP in the derive methode but the relationship doesn't seem to work.
Do you know all the steps i have to do to derive fiscper from the other two for my copy function?
I would be very appreciate it.

HT1338 On macbook MAIL the search function doesn't work?

On my macbook retina pro with latest updated softwares the search function in "MAIL" doesnt work. It is supposed to be pretty simple fucntion and on my iphone and othe rmail programs it works fine. However once i type anything in "Search bar" at top right then inbox goes empty and nothing appears. Whereas the search bar gives options of sveral email names etc, even if i select one. It doesn't work.

*search bar on the Navigation Toolbar
*search bar on the about:home page (pref: browser.search.defaultenginename)
*other search bar (e.g. added by extension)

If there is a problem with searching via the default about:home page then try to reset the search engine used on the about:home page.
Reset the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone pref via the right-click context menu to the default on the about:config page and close and restart Firefox to restore the about:home page to its default.

What do I do when the rebuild function doesn't work on my email? It still saying I have 108 emails left on one of my accounts even though there are no emails being shown...

I have Lion 10.7.5 and it says that I still have 108 emails on one of my accounts (Microsoft outlook live) even though there aren't any email being shown. And when I try to access my account on the Outlook Web App, there aren't any emails there either. I've tried the rebuild function and it doesn't do anything...what's my next move?

Opening a file dialog box with a button while the data graph is running continuos aquisition

I am running a continuous aquisition that is hardware timed. I display the data on a graph. While running the VI that is displaying the graph I want to open a file to write the data for a period of time then be able to select a new file after the file is written by hitting the open file button again. I also want to just have the file open and after it is opened hit another button that begins the writing to the file.

To accomplish the first task use a control button, a case structure and a sub vi located inside the case structure. The control button determines the status of the case structure in response to user click. The sub vi writes your data into the file you specified in the file dialog. The entire process repeat itself each time the button is clicked. The set-up of the sub vi depends on organization and type of file you want. I think the second task is just a modification of the first.
