Indesign CS6, trouble with accessing menus

Hi all,
I've asked this question on twitter before and the staff was very helpful but it didn't solve my problem.
I have a PC on Windows7 family premium, 64 bits.
Intel Core i3 CPU550 3.2 GHz, processor
4G of RAM
As far as I can tell that should run ok according to specs.
I had the evaluation version of InDeisgn CS6, then installed the full version after subscribing to the creative cloud. The problem was there with the trial version too. So I uninstalled it and installed the full version. Still nothing.
Basically I can start a project and all. But most of the menus on the right hand side are acting up. (see below). I tried the method of resetting the preferences (as explained on the forums), but it's still not working.
Here's a screencap with some of the troubles indicated:
I can click on the tools on the left hand side, but the other side is all a mess. I can open panels, like here the colours (sorry it's a French version) but I can't click on the colours. Same with the pages panel, I can't click on pages or anything else. Etc.
Plus some drop-down menus are acting strange. As you see above, I clicked on one arrow but it opened another drop down menu?
I tried disconnecting my tablet as it sometimes interferes, I also tried a mouse with a cable thining it might be my wirelss mouse. But it's still the same?
Can anyone help me please?

Thank you Bob. You are right I was using a personalised display and that's what was messing it up!
Sorry about posting in the wrong section. I'm in the process of testing the suite and this affected other programs, now I see why. I'm just focusing on ID as it's what I need this week.

Indesign CS6 Problems with OS X Services

With Indesign CS5.5, services work, but not in CS6 on Snow Leopard. What I mean is, if you select some text (in my case Tex text), go to the Indesign menu, select Services, then select something like Typeset LaTex Text, Indesign says the service cannot be used, and the reason revealed in the Console is this:

This error happens for all Services listed.
This works fine in Indesign CS5.5. Googling seems to find nothing about this. Any ideas?
Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

No issues so far on my 2012 Mac Mini but after using this new system for 2 days I find no improvement or features that I would use from ML version. Probably more trouble updating than it was worth.

Why is InDesign CS6 so slow accessing files on NAS?

Using InDesign CS6 on Mac OSX 10.6, accessing files on an Apple Airport Time Capsule.
Here is my workflow:
- Access indd files on Time Capsule.
- Package file with links and fonts.
- Move Packages to other computer (for image processing).
- Move Packages back to Time Capsule.
Problem:
- When working on the files initially, everything is fine.
- Once packaged, everything works fine on either computer, before and after image processing.
- Once the packages are moved back to Time Capsule, there are long delays & beach balls any time you move the view, zoom in/out, etc.
Things I have already tried:
- turning off Preflight (no effect)
- changing view to fast display (no effect)
- live screen redraw is delayed.
- happens on multiple computers, all with adequate RAM
Any ideas on what this could be, or where to start troubleshooting?

If ID needs to go back to the network to load something else into memory, that's going to slow things down. I'm not a network expert, nor do I really know what gets loaded into memory (the total amount of RAM is actually irrelvant once you get to the point where ID is using the adressable limit, just under 4 gb for CS6 which is still 32-bit) or how big your file is, so I don't know how much swapping is going on. The speed of the drive in the NAS is also going to be a factor.

Does InDesign CS6 require internet access for volume license validation

Our purchasing team supplied me with a volume licnsed version of InDesign CS6 and it requires internet access to validate the license.We operate in a VDI environment without internet access.
If i try to use the AdobeApplicationManagerEnterpriseEdition tool to customize the app it will not recognise the serial key..? if i manually launch the Setup.exe it does..?

Yes , the internet access is required to use the Adobe software but we do understand in secure enviornment it is not possible.
Hence , you can create a deployment package using AAMEE on a internet enabled computer and then use the package to install the cs6 software on the computer without internet computer.
Make sure you use AAMEE 3.0 as it will only work with CS6.

Using InDesign CS6 SDK with MFC

Has anybody been developing InDesign plugins that use MFC? I would have to use a bunch of functions that rely heavily on MFC. The problem is that now both MFC and InDesign CS6 API want to declare their own CString, ICommand and DLLmain and it creates quite major conflicts. I'm just curious if there is a proven way to prevent these conflicts.

yes, we've done so relatively successfully but "ne'er the twain shall meet"!
We've encapsulated all access to MFC in a separate DLL.
As per normal with an MFC based DLL you have to restore access to the MFC module globals
using
AFX_MANAGE_STATE( AfxGetStaticModuleState() );
I don't think there's any other "magic" that you need to take account of.

InDesign CS6 crash with export to PDF

When exporting to a PDF file (either print or interactive) in InDesign CS6, my program crashes sporadically, but consistently with one particular page. I have retyped that page several times, changing the graphics and bullets…and it still crashes. And now my InDesign CS5.5 is doing the same thing, but only with this page. Another page has exported just fine. The particular problem-causing page is only 1 page long and not a full page. Graphics are bullets (with color) and 4 PDF decorative corners and limited text.
My Mac is using OSX version 10.7.4. The iMac is an early 2009. This problem just started occurring. All of the discussion threads don't seem to address this particular problem.
I do rely on InDesign for my work.

InDesign CS6 crashing with single document

Alright, so I'm using InDesign CS6 and MacBook Pro OS X 10.9.3. To the best of my knowledge, everything is up-to-date, but I'm relatively new to both Macs and InDesign.
I'm formatting a report for work. It's a long document, ~80 pages, primarily text with some tables, etc. I was working on this document a few weeks ago, then it got put on the back burner and I'm just now coming back to it. However, it seems like it's developed a bug and I can load it just fine, but after a few minutes of work, it freezes and I have to Force Quit.
I did some preliminary troubleshooting on the web and I found out you're supposed to reset your ID preferences or something, so I did that successfully and the problem still occurs.
I've tried working on other documents and I haven't had the program crash, yet.
So the logical assumption would be that the file is corrupted, right? Well I came to that conclusion, and tried to create a fresh clean document and then copy and paste the text from the original document into a frame in the new document. But the problem still occurs.
Is there a way I can recover my document?

Hrm. So I definitely tried exporting the tagged text and importing it and it didn't work (what happened was the new, clean document completely froze up and I had to Force Quit).
But then, at your surprise/insistence, I tried again and it seemed to work this time. So thanks for your help. I have a knack for finding weird unexplainable bugs.

Adobe audition cs6 trouble with getting the trial

Having trouble navigating the adobe site perhaps,but I downlaoded the adobe dowload assiant and registered etc. to get a free trial of adobe AUDITION cs6 and when I got thru the download manager,I can't find it as one of the products I can try.
Anybody have any advice as to here It is?

After Adobe Download Assistant is installed, you can start it at any time and select a product to download at the bottom of the window. The list updates as new products become available to download with the Adobe Download Assistant.

Exporting to a .swf or .fla from InDesign CS6 - issues with timeline when opened in Flash.

Looking for help with exporting files for Flash. I have tried both .swf and fla exports from InDesign for the animations I have created. The .swf file will play fine in Flash player but I am having no luck using the .swf or .fla file in Flash. The .fla file will open in Flash but there is no time-line. I can import the .swf file into Flash, but again there is no timeline - all the graphics and elements are visible in the library.
- Is there a particular way the file(s) have to be exported from InDesign in order for them to appear with a time line in Flash?
- Are there particular do's and dont's when it comes to creating InDesign files that are going to be used as Flash animation?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The page turning animations in an exported swf are accomplished via ActionScript—they are not timeline based tween animations. You might be able to decompile the swf and get to the code, but I've never tried it. Google SWF decompiler.
When you export to fla the animation ActionScript code is not included, so you lose the page turn animations. Each spread is saved as a MovieClip and the clips appear on sequential keyframes of the root timeline. With an fla it's up to you to write any animation code.

Indesign CS6 errors with Windows 7

Service Pack 1
12 GB RAM, 3.49GB usable.
Is anyone having issues saving as a .pdf file? When we try to do a save or save as, we often get file is already open, when it really isnt open at least on the task manager. We have to simply do a save as new name for it to save at all. Then of course it becomes annoying as now we have 12 versions that have to be saved in a day, delete the 11 once we are done for the day.
We are also getting lots of freezes and delays when in the Indesign files. This could be old files or new files or even files that were saved as IDML and started over in case of bloating.
We went into preferences and tried better performance under Interface and display performances, but still suffer from delays.
We are showing that all our Adobe Products are up to date based on the update manager.

Also, I am sorry to have not included this detail as it just came to me. The issue happens as I perform the following task.
Cntrl + E = Export
I select the location to export and I select the file if I want to overwrite it, otherwise click the Save Button.
Dialog box "Confirm Save As" appears if it is an overwrite.
Here is where I get the problem. Adobe Indesign Dialog Box "Cannot save to the file 'file name.pdf', because the file is already open." So, it actually happens before the Export Adobe PDF dialog appears for me to uncheck the view pdf option after export.
Now, turning off the preview pane seems to have fixed it. I did not have the file selected in windows explorer. I actually opened three older files that had the save as issues and now they seem to overwrite the files just fine.
Thank you again to everyone. I appreciate your help in this. I will check with my other graphic designer to see if they are having issues as well.

Bug? - trouble with iPod menus

I recently downloaded my first video podcasts, but I'm having some trouble playing them in my iPod. Although they are ok when played in iTunes, they didn't seem to be recognized as video by the iPod - at least when I selected them through the podcast menu (they played as audio with a small imaged on the left). But I just found they play perfectly fine, though, if I select them through the video ("recently added") menu. Weird.
But then under that menu (the "recently added" list under Videos) I got not only videos but also all the recently added songs/audio. Does this happen to everyone? Is it just me, or does this look like a bug?
