InDesign cutting in line

Hi All.
First, thanks for all your great answers. I've never actually had to post a questions before.
My problem is 'just' an annoyance, but a major one.
Problem: When I open a document, it opens in front of other work I'm doing.
Example: double click Indesign doc, go to write an email while it opens, after a little bit (or more than a little bit) Indesign forces itself to the the front of mail stopping work in that application.
It would be less annoying if Indesign was ready to work when it forces itself to the front of the action, but I have to wait while the document actually becomes visible.
Question: How do I prevent InDesign (and all CS apps) from taking over while I work on other apps?
I'm not afraid of getting into Terminal to change something small, but I wouldn't know where to start.
I've used the featured search function to no avail. This happens in Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat.
I work in all of the Creative Suite products all day every day (Printshop production, lots of balls in the air) my flow is suffering.
Thanks a bunch

Thanks to you both.
Bob, I've turned the application frame on, but as with all change, I don't like it. I'll test it out for a while, but it feels like WIndows.
Meanwhile, the application still does the force to front, but docs do seem to open faster (?).
Mary, Interesting idea with the Font Management. I bet that's why the document isn't open when the app comes to the front. I'm using Suitcase Fusion 3 with auto activate on.
Any other ideas?
thanks

  • Cut the line coming from outside Verizon ONT

My painter cut  the line (Fiber Optic cable) coming FROM outside to the Verizon ONT. How much will Verizon charge me for the repair ? If too much, I will consider early termination, but how much is the ETF then? Thanks

I would think it doesn't matter ... your painter should pay or reimburse you for any costs associated with the repair if Verizon charges anything.

  • How do I cut the lines to get the circular edge?

What I'm asking is how to make my lines have that circular edge like the inside of these lines.. I'm sure its some pathfinder tool where you lay a circle on top of the lines but I can't seem to find the correct order to get this look... Any advice?  P.S. I'm still tweeking the colors and such so.... AND the larger circle is the one i was trying to use to cut the lines...

    Group your lines together
Draw a black circle on top (black will be your color to make things invisible)
    s
    Select both
Transparency >> make opacity mask, use these settings
Note: there are 2 squares in the transparency palette.
Left Square highlighted (as shown above) - edit art
Riight square highlighted - edit the mask

  • Cutting a line geometry into segments on intersections.

Hi guys, I am trying to cut all my road center lines into segments on every intersection. I have tried to use the SDO_LRS.SPLIT_GEOM_SEGMENT function but it only cuts the line on a certain distance and not at a certain point on the line...
Any help on the matter will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
You will have to do the following:
    SDO_LRS.GET_MEASURE( SDO_LRS.PROJECT_PT(....
see the example in the user manaual: http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B14255_01/sdo_lrs_ref.htm#sthref1933
This will get you the measure of the project point (even it is on the line) on the line and pass that into to split procedure.

  • Cfreport cutting off lines on multiple pages created with report builder

I have a report built with report builder and it appears that if you set the body to "stretch with overflow" that cfreport will "cut off" a line or two every time it paginates see attached for a simplified version of the report, I have removed all but the body on this (actual report has a watermark, report header, page header and page footer ...the problem is pretty apparnt with this scaled down version as you can see it's missing text from one page to the next ..any ideas/suggestions/known bug?? You can see a sample of the issue here: http://www.arroyoc.com/onlybody.pdf

    Hi Helen,
As per my understanding, I think this issue is caused by width size is not appropriate in the report. To narrow down this issue, please make sure that Body Width + Left margin + Right margin <= (Page width).
If the tablix is a matrix, because of the column group can expand to multiple columns, we should according to the following rule:
Body Width + Extra expanded column width + Left margin + Right margin <= (Page width).
Besides, please make sure there are no extra page breaks before each “R”. To check whether the issue is caused by the letter “R”, we can try to use another field to replace the Company Name field.
    Hope this helps.

  • Printing in Mail Cutting last line on page in half

I have a friend, using a Macbook Pro 15", who has noticed since the last upgrade to 10.9.4 that whenever he prints a multi page document in OS X mail that the last line on the page prints half on one page and half on the next.  Default paper size is A4 (standard in NZ). Text also splits if print to Preview. Discovered it the default paper size is changed to US letter that text no longer splits.
To try and find out what could be causing this I tried to duplicate the problem in my MacBook Pro 17"  also up to date with  OS X 10.9.4. On my machine with paper default set to A4 prints multi page document without cutting the last line, i.e., paginates between lines. Changed my default us US Letter and it split the last line in half.  Same problem but with different form default.
Any one know what setting is controlling whether it paginates between lines or on the line? How to stop mail from cutting the last line on the page up with half on each page?

The line spacing isn't exact by default. I presume you use Pages 08 or 09. In the Inspector > T tab > Line < Click on the small arrows to the right and choose Exactly

  • Indesign Center Dashed line

Hello Sometimes I saw Dashed line in center of Indesign artboard. Generally in multipage documents. When They make pdf it automatically disappeard. How can ı put that center line.

Sounds like a dashed line drawn by the user. Set it to non-printing in the Attributes panel or draw it on a non-printing layer.

  • InDesign CS4 Blur lines on screen while mouse scrolling

Below is a picture of what is happening while scrolling in a few indesign files. When i stop scrolling it does stop and clears the lines off the screen. Does anyone have a clue what is causing it?

I had a problem similar to this which I found to be a video card issue that I resolved by updating my video card drivers. You might try to see if there are any updates available for your video card. Also, I am not sure what your default setting is for Display Performance but do you notice any difference when you change it from low to high?

  • How do I cut a line with a rectangle using the Pathfinder

I'm a complete newb in Ai (many years in Ps).
I'm trying to cut off (delete) a rectangular section of a grid that is made of many lines. I keep getting the message, "The filter produced no results. Please select two intersecting paths."
In its simplest form, I have a stroked line (a path) and a filled rectangle (also a path). The rectangle is on top of the line.
I select both of the objects and choose Minus Front from the Pathfinder Panel.
And I get the message "The filter produced no results. Please select two intersecting paths." I've tried all of the options in the Pathfinder pane.
What I'd like to happen is to have the section of the line that is overlapped by the rectangle deleted, so I'd end up with two lines that looked like this:
If the rectangle overlapped the end of the line, I'd like the section where they overlap deleted, and I'd end up with one line.
I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I've watched several videos about the Pathfinder, read a bunch of posts, and I'm still clueless.
    Thanks!

The Minus operation you're choosing is for shapes.  Which means they can't be simple stroked line-segments.  You have to expand the line segment into a shape such as a very thin very long rectangle and NOW you can apply the Minus Front operation.  Try and see if you get the same results I got.  Then you will end up with a shape which is probably not what you want but instead you can delete the portions of the shape or even average the thin line segments together to get a center-line grouped object.

  • Urxvt: resizing terminal cuts off lines

I report a bug of urxvt found in the web and that i cannot resolve, i hope that here there is someone who can help me:
    I'm using rxvt-unicode's "urxvtc" as X11 terminal.
If I resize the terminal window before text output has already filled a screenful and the terminal has scrolled down a few lines, the text lines already in the window are cut to fit the resized window.
When there has been enough output (so that the scrollbar is not 100% full), then the terminal does the right thing: lines longer than the new terminal width are wrapped around, and no screen content is lost.
I'm using a tiling window manager, so terminal resize happens automatically all the time, and it gets annoying to lose part of the text.
Do you have any solutions? Thanks

  • InDesign Margins & Bleed Lines Disappeared

    Hi,
I am using InDesign CC and I had all my margin lines and bleed lines visible when I was inserting images and text onto the pages. I think I accidentally pressed a wrong shortcut that had all the lines disappear and the pasteboard color changed to a lighter gray. It seems like it is some type of presentation mode when I was clicking shift + w. I closed the document and opened it back up again but the same thing is still there. I am not sure how to have all the margin lines and bleed lines reappear. I need help to fix it asap!
I attached a picture below of how my screen looks like right now.

  • Inline tables in indesign cs5.5 - line break

Is it possible to create a table (in this case, a table with boxes and hyphens for someone to write their SS#) and have it inline along with other copy? I have tried to accomplish this in several different ways and it seems that the table needs to be on its own line. is that true? thx.

somehow, its now working, just as i thought it should have worked. thx anyways!

  • InDesign Adding Shadow/Lines to Transparent PSD & JPG Files?

I'm relatively new to InDesign, but as I've run this issue through an expert friend of mine who could not puzzle it out- I'm coming here.
I have a number of different images, both JPG's & PSD's that have some transparent areas in them. I'm incorporating them into InDesign files using the "place" command, but when I export the InDesign file to PDF a strange sort of drop-shadow looking effect is coming up between the areas that have images and those that were transparent on the JPG & PSD.
The transparent areas on the JPG & PSD's were created by simply deleting areas of a graphic, or by placing a small image onto a larger transparent background. No masks or clipping paths involved.
    Thank you for your help!

I recently attended a seminar with Terry White (http://terrywhite.com/techblog/) and asked him about my issue here. He said, and I am paraphrasing here, that the problem is that my image with a transparent background is being processed through a filter (or something) that readies it for the final image- but the image behind it is not going through this transparency process, and that the inconsistency adds weird black shadows and/or halos under some printing situations.
His solution was fairly simple- take the image BEHIND the one with the transparency, and set the transparency of that image to 99%. Its not visible to your eye, but it means that both images will be process through the "filter" and you won't get those weird halos and shadows.
I haven't had the opportunity to play with his solution much- but on first run-through, it seems to be working for me.

  • InDesign Showing white line on bottom and right sides

I made sure that my design overlapped for bleed however when exporting to a PDF file it's showing a white line on the bottom and right of the design. I double check to make sure there is overlap and it's still showing up. I have tried searching to see if anyone else has had this issue but no luck.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

Never mind... just got an email from InDesignSecrets that answered my problem. Rookie mistake. It was the fact I did not select the use document bleed settings on export.
    Thanks for the help!
