InDesign Doc Damaged

Hello adobe-Team,
I´m trying to edit an indesign document build in indesign cc. Every time I try to load the document indesign shuts down (unknown fault). The doc ist about 332 mb big and full of tables linkes with csv-docs (with the german tool: "Datenzusammenführung"). Is the doc damaged?

  • Placing images from Bridge CC breaks Indesign Doc

    This seems to be intermittent but it's occuring only when I place images from Bridge to an InDesign document.
    I've experienced this bug before with InDesign but now it seems to happen more often when I drag an image from Bridge to an InDesign doc.
    After doing this I'm unable to Save the document or undo/redo anything. I know others have experienced this same bug. The only way I was able to fix the document was to close InDesign (and lose any unsaved changes) and then reopen the document. Then I create a new document and move all of the pages of my document to the new doc and resave it. This seems to stop the problem from happening.
    This is a serious bug: a) It's hard to pin down what causes it but it seems to be permission related to the document b) there is NO way to recover your unsaved changes, you can't copy your objects to a new document and save it as once the program breaks you can't save ANYTHING.
    Has anyone had success permanantly fixing this? Or run into it at all?

    Windows or MacOS?
    Because in Windows you can circumvent this by using the Explorer. I used to drag 'n drop images (ID CS6) and other files all the time - nothing like your problem so far.

  • InDesign docs won't print on Epson CX 6600

    Interesting problem. Computer is a "basketball" iMac 17" LCD G4 with OSX 10.3.9. Tried to print to an Epson CX6600 multifunction printer/scanner/copier, after the CX5200 died. Sending the 6600 any doc done in InDesign stalls to "Jobs Stopped" after spooling to the printer.
    The 6600 prints fine from most every other app on my computer (MSWord, Internet browsers, Appleworks, PDFs, etc.) It even prints fine from the other parts of the Adobe CS suite, such as Photoshop, but not InDesign or Illustrator. All my InDesign docs printed fine on the previous CX5200, which was plug & play from the moment we brought it home. The same InDesign docs also print fine on our workhorse B/W HP printers, but we need to print in color now. We have added nothing new in the way of fonts, etc. Plus we've run Printer Setup Repair and other fix programs to insure all permissions were OK. One place on the Adobe site says it is basically a known problem with Illustrator and In Design on this Epson and several other models, and all they offer for the "fix" is to "make sure you print from the Adobe pull down file menu". Does that come under "duh?" or am I seriously missing something? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks
    Also, Any suggestions on a good trouble-free color printer? Perhaps laser this time? Tried a Xerox 6120 and had nothing but continuous problems. Xerox tried but was of little or no help, but they did replace three of them before we threw in the towel. Thanks again!

    It seems to be related to your printer, maybe it doesn't have a Postscript emulator. Test print a pdf to it.
    Have you updated your printer drivers, Apple regularly has new downloads in its software support pages, and also been to Canon's website to see if there are any reported issues?

  • Reformatting problems combining multiple indesign docs

    My daughter's school newspaper has 24 pages.   Each page is laid out using InDesign and is a separate document.   When all the pages are done, they combine all 24 pages into one big InDesign doc.    But when they do this, some pages will randomly reformat the text, adding spaces, changing line breaks, etc.   They then have to go through the whole thing and re-do all the changes that occurred when the pages were combined.   Does anyone know what settings should be in place so that this random reformating problem does not happen?
    Thanks for your help and feedback!

    There's nothing random about it. When you move a page from one ID doc to
    another if you have identically named styles the definition in the ID doc
    that is being added to takes over.
    Use the book feature to avoid this.

  • Bring to front InDesign doc CS4 js

    I have a script for Indesign that opens Ps file runs ps script on it and then updates it in InDesign, and leaves Ps as an active program on the front, and I need for InDesign doc. to come forward as an active app. I've tried few lines and none of them work:
    var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
    myDoc.activate();
    or
    myDoc.open();
    or
    myDoc.windows = Window.BRINGTOFRONT ();
    or
    myDoc.windows = Window.bringToFront ();
    or
    myDoc.select (myNewFile); // select file in InDesign
    Your help is highly appreciated.

    Hi Yulia,
    Not sure but try this:
    app.activate();

  • "Cannot recover" Error when opening InDesign doc

    We are a Server 2008 w/ XP/SP3 client environment. I have a user that opens an InDesign doc located on a shared network drive, does some work on it, and closes it. When the next person opens it, they get this error: "Cannot recover <<filename>>.indd. Please try to open it using the File menu. The file <<filename>>.indd has been changed since Adobe InDesign last quit (Error code: 11). They can click "OK" to this. The next window that pops up has an error: This document contains links to missing or modified files. Click Fix Links Automatically to have InDesign update this document with the modified files and help you locate missing files..." there's more about using the links panel, etc. They click "don't fix" and the document opens. To the best of my knowledge it is happening on just one file.
    I'm pretty sure the second error is because we recently took a server off-line that some of the links had been pointing to; I've informed my users they need to update the links in the files. It's the first error I'm wondering about. The first user I mention at the beginning has been having *tons* of trouble with InDesign the last week or so. It locks up, freezes panes, and needs to be ended through task manager. It's been unbearable for both her and myself trying to figure out what's wrong. My hurdle is that I don't use the software at all but I'm in IT support so so I'm in charge of troubleshooting but not sure where to begin.
    Can someone please help with the error we are receiving and also, provide some suggestions on how I can troubleshoot the performance issues?
    Her system specs:
    XP2002/SP3
    3GB RAM
    P4 2.8GHz proc.
    Not sure on the graphics card but can retrieve it will be helpful. User does use dual monitors.
    TIA!

    Reinstalling won't necessarily fix the kinds of problems you are having since they may have nothing to do with the application itself. I woud uninstall first, whenever possible, and immediately run any updates. Changing the preferences would be more productive as a first step though. Prefs are not automatically replaced on a new installation, either -- it depends on what option you chose during the uninstall.
    For your questions:
    1) When a file is opened, ID write a file with the extension .idlk in the same directory. This file tells any instance of ID that the file is already open and in use and prevents multiple users form having simultaneous access. It may or may not be deleted (usually not) during a crash scenario.
    2) Generally speaking it is not possible for mere mortals to recover a corrupt ID file. Tommy Donovan at Adobe is collecting them for study, but makes no promise of recovery. The folks at Markzware say they have some luck using their ID2Q plugin for Quark Xpress to open and save as a Quark file, then going back the other way using Q2ID to convert back. They might do a on-off for a small fee.
    3) Go to the link in the previous response, and scroll down to the part about repalcing preferences. Editing the prefs in the edit menu is not the same as replcing them with a new set. The files that need to be replaced are InDesign Defaults and InDesign SavedData.
    4) If there is something wrong on User 1's system that is corrupting the file, it would show up when User 2 opens it. Export the file to Interchange format (.inx), then open that file and save as a new .indd file. That can often clean up minor problems (i.e. those not serious enough to keep the file from opening at all).

  • Can a PDF of an Indesign doc be created from Bridge CS3

    Can a PDF of an Indesign doc be created from Bridge CS3 without opening the Indesign file; and retain version cue version info as you would "page information", using an "Adobe PDF Preset" ?

    Hi Willi:
    Thanks for your prompt response.  Do you know if there are any scripts that can do this or at least help automate some of this process?
    Thanks!

  • Trigger script on the opening of new InDesign doc CS4 js

    Hi,
    Is it possible to trigger a java script on the double click of the InDesign doc in finder, so the script runs as soon as doc is open. How it can be done.
    Thank you very much for your help.
    Yulia

    Hi there,
    To me InDesign’s after/beforeOpen events are at the very least useless, since they are triggered before the document’s layout window is opened. This is why you can do nothing useful with the document.
    The workaround is to use APID Toolkit’s docLoaded event instead, which works perfectly. If you are interested, here is an example of using it: check out source code for Check profile plug-in.

    P.S. This was the case with CS3, may be with CS4 things took a turn for the better — I can't check it right now.

  • Is there a script/something to put every element of your Indesign doc onto a separate layer?

    Help. The reason I need this is, our designers have created a huge Indesign document that i need to Psd to send to our web guys.
    Ive found a scipt that converts indesign to psd layered perfectly but each element of the Indesign doc has to be on a layer!!.
    Help!

    @Vamitul – you still forgot a dot and a paranthesis…
    And it will not only work with Group objects, but will fail on anchored objects, too.
    A better approch will be to duplicate the objects to new layers. But also with that method there is a risk: the position of duplicated anchored objects will change and to single out objects out of groups means getting into trouble, too:
    var doc=app.activeDocument;
    var pi=doc.allPageItems, l=pi.length;
    while (l--) {pi[l].duplicate(doc.layers.add())};
    alert("Done!\nYou can go outside an play now!");
    Before script (TextFrame with anchored object on the "blue" layer):
    After script (TextFrame without anchored object on the green layer, the now duplicated un-anchored object on the "red" layer):
    And another thing: if an anchored object has "Text Wrap: on" the text of the duplicated object will reflow.
    So, you have to store the positions of anchored objects and set them back to its original.
    Another thing about groups: in duplicating single objects out of a group, you will loose any effect that is applied to the group.
    So you have to single out groups of your pageItems.
    You see it's getting complicated here…
    Maybe it's worth thinking about NOT using "allPageItems" but the simple "pageItems". Then "Groups" will stay "Groups" and anchored objects will remain anchored:
    var doc=app.activeDocument;
    var pi=doc.pageItems, l=pi.length;
    while (l--) {pi[l].move(doc.layers.add())};
    alert("Done!\nYou can go outside an play now!");

  • Preview image in an InDesign doc

    Is it possible to extract the preview images (as used by Bridge to preview the contents of an InDesign doc) from an InDesign doc?

    @FergyMac – basically a good idea, but you are limited to the browers' pdf viewing capabilities.
    So most (all?) of that kind of pdf viewer will not support live transparency (amongst other features like color management etc.pp.).

  • Can you include hyperlinks in an indesign doc. exported to HTML?

    Trying to send an email newsletter that has images/hyperlinks and maintains its format.
    When you export an indesign doc. into html code will the hyperlinks still work?
    If so, what do I have to do to make sure that the links and images work after sending it in email body.
    Thanks very much - any help is warranted

    Hi, I was just wondering if you got the problem resolved. I'm asking because we are experiencing kind of the same issue in our office. Our Marketing Manager is using Adobe InDesign and exports her documents to PDF. These PDFs won't print in any of our printers in the office. It spools and then gets stuck and it actually makes our HP Coloured Laser Printer throw an error (error 79) and we'll have to restart the printer due to this error. We can print other documents and other PDFs in the printer so we know it's not a printer driver issue. In fact, we have isolated the problem to only PDFs exported from InDesign. Even if we create a blank document from InDesign and export it to PDF it still won't print. Really odd. We would appreciate if you could share your solution if you were able to fix the issue. Thanks!!

  • I am trying to export indesign doc containing MP4 to interactive PDF but videos don't appear on exported PDF?

    I am trying to export indesign doc containing MP4 to interactive PDF but videos don't appear on exported PDF?
    This is the Id screen

    You haven't told us what PDF reader you're you're using to watch the video in the interactive PDF. You still haven't told us whether you exported File > Export > PDF (Interactive) or PDF (Print)? Please answer the questions so we can try to help you.

  • InDesign doc exported to PDF won't print

    I'm experiencing issues with an exported PDF from InDesign. More specifically, when I export the InDesign doc to a PDF and try to print, I don't have any issues, nor does anyone else in my office, however some of the people that I'm sending the document to are experiencing trouble printing it. They get to 44% flattened and then the printing process slows down, and then once it reaches 50% they get a pop-up window saying that the document can't print and the whole thing stops. They can print the first page by just selecting that page, however the second page cannot be printed this way. I have re-exported the PDF several times and these folks having the issues have cleared their browser cache, re-downloaded the document, saved it to their desktop before opening, and tried renaming the document as well.
    What's going on here, and what can I do or tell them to do to fix this?
    Also, updating their Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat does not solve the problem.

  • InDesign doc set to 2048 or 1024 for retina displays?

    I know this has been discussed previously, and for broad distrubution it's best practice to use 1024 x 768 and vector where possible... but are there any advantages of setting up your InDesign doc to 2048 px? If I want to distubute just to retina iPads, is it best to simply go 2048 or still best practice to use 1024?
    Thank you.

    My $0.02 is that for limited distribution for retina devices, it's okay to
    use 2048x1356 PNG folios. The real benefit here is that the pages don't have
    to be rendered as PDF. The drawback is that there will be no pinch and zoom.
